Well, you've read the notes, the notes were both stupid and a snack, and now it is time for you to post until the stupid cows come home - they're currently snacking on MOO Pies.

TOD:

CD - GLEE Season One
(I am saving my Stu Phillips CD as an investment, but it looks so interesting that I may have to open it!)

DVD - CRY BABY! with Mr Johnny Depp and some first season episodes of SOUTHLAND

I am also reading a book of short stories by Leonard Michaels and HEARTBREAKER by John Meyer who spent a few months with Miss Judy Garland at the end of her life, most distressing and I am not sure I finish it.

Last night's performance of BLITHE SPIRIT was most excellent, with Mr Tim Good as Charles Condomine receiving entrance applause from his colleagues at DePauw University who happened to be in attendance, which was fun.

Cast also received a standing ovation, its first.  Good hearty laughs all through the evening, and only a few line bobbles here and there.

I bought one of these on Monday and it arrived yesterday, not a bad way to listen to records without having to hook the turntable up to the computer - now I only have to do that if I want to make a CD of the LP.

http://www.heartlandamerica.com/browse/item.asp?product=Emerson%20Nostalgia%20Turntable%20/Stereo&PIN=95665&GUID=undefined&DL=QSP1

The special item of the day at that site is a similar player that records CD's.

Good morning, all! I went to bed around 9:30 and slept until 6:45 this morning, sao I must have needed the sleep.

This is the week my friends appear on THE GOOD WIFE: both Rebecca Luker and Glory Crampton have been signed to appear in episodes. Yea!

DR JRand59, isn't it great when a performance turns out well? I'm very happy you had a good performance last night. I hope the rest go as well, if not better.

BK, thanks for the update on DR Jose. I'm sorry he lefy and I miss him. I haven't heard a thing from him for several months, and I miss him. I couldn't have got through the bedbug crisis or my diabetic visits to the ER in 2008 without him and I hope that, whatever he may be up to, he's happy. I thought he might have found true love and that was taking up his time.

So, this morning, my first round as an NYU Dental Clinic patient, and this could be grisly. Luckily I have the afternoon to either cope or get drunk. Tonight I'm seeing LEND ME A TENOR with Jon McDevitt, the Scarecrow in last week's WIZARD OF OZ. I bought the tickets for me and Chris, but the band that only seems to play Hanukkah events has a gig, so Chris can't see the comedy and i can't go watch the Gods of Fire in the Village.

TOD:
DVD: Spring Awakening, D.H. Lawrence's SONS & LOVERS, a few others
CD: Waldteufel waltzes, Perry Como, rare BK tracks, Liz Callaway, Rebecca Luker, Jacques Offenbach
  VCR: Smut

TOD: Haven't had time this week for much and am far, far behind on work, so I've saved "Sherlock Holmes" and "The Informant" for possible weekend viewing. There's "New York, New York" for the DVD. And hopefully a few page of "Beautiful Maria of My Soul" for reading.

So DR Jose has not contacted anybody privately?  That seems very weird to me.  Even if he wanted to leave HHW why would he have to disown his friends here? :(

I hope he's okay and miss his posts here.

TOD:

DVD:
I picked up the season 1 (actually I think it only lasted one season) set of FRONTIER CIRCUS (John Derek and Richard Jaeckel) so I might dip into that, although I still have two episodes of ROUTE 66 left to watch.

DVR:
THE LOCKET (1946) starring Laraine Day, Brian Aherne, and little Sharyn Moffett (sister of my friend Gregory Moffett).

CD:
Compilation of pop music from around the world.

I DM'ed DR Jose in Twitter after he was missing here a few days early in June.  He answered back that he was simply catching up with things and that he would be back at HHW.  I've pinged him twice more in Twitter since then and received no reply, though I plainly see him tweeting his activities there all the time.  I would gripe about being ignored but I can't exactly throw any stones in that department...

I was happy with the result of last night's Big Brother eviction. I was surprised at who was revealed to be the saboteur.

My favorite players at this time are:

Brendon
Andrew

With the new HOH, it will certainly be interesting to see what goes on and who scrambles.

Sherlock could use some tail vibes.  I found something  near the base of his tail that feels like an acorn.  I'm going to take him to the lake to cool him off.  A friend told me about a spot I haven't been to that doesn't have fox tails.  His vet appointment isn't until 2:30 and then they are closed for the weekend.  I hope he doesn't need surgery.

Boy, now that AS THE WORLD TURNS is heading to oblivion, the idiocy is increasing at a headlong pace. It's bad enough that the town where the action is set is about a fifteen minutes from New York and Chicago so people can walk out of a scene in town and be in a major city in the next, but the acting is hitting bravura heights of  moronic lows ths afternoon.

Yet another reason to never trust and to totally detest these Blu-Ray/DVD review sites - in talking about the new region B Diana Dors double bill Blu-ray set, the site owner has this to say about the transfer:

The grain levels are generally pleasing and the color contrasts spot on.

Nothing inherently wrong with that sentence save for the tiny little fact that both films are in black and white.

Sherlock had a wonderful time at the lake today.  There was a cute chocolate lab puppy for him to play with.  He smiled the entire time.  Keith had to hose him off twice when we returned home he was so dirty.  We much prefer dirt to foxtails and burrs.

About a year ago I was hiking the trails with Sherlock and met a nice couple who stopped to admire him.  They were in the process of moving here.  She had sold her vet practice in Portland and was looking to work as a relief vet here.  I told her my vet was great and she should work there.  I then proceeded to tell her reason why she shouldn't work for another vet in the area.  All the way back to my car I kept thinking I couldn't believe what I had told these people I didn't know.

Guess who is now the relief vet for my vet and recognized Sherlock today :)  Small world.  She also told me she appreciated my comments and check out the other vet incognito when her dog needed a rabies vaccination and agreed with my comments.

Smart lady worked for awhile at the emergency practice to get a feel for the vets in the area.  She said she only sent her resume to six vets.

The artichoke didn't really make a dent in my hunger, and now I need to eat so I'm hoping my dinner companion gets here sooner than later or I may have to start eating some Moon Pies.

Because I was lunching alone, I had a grilled artichoke - so very low calorie and I can now eat a proper dinner.

Yum!

DR Jane - my group read A LESSON BEFORE DYING several years ago because it was Cincinnati's On the Same Page all-city read selection.  It was very much out of character for us and not one of our favorites.

I'm glad I just reread this.  I thought you said it was one of your favorites.  Big difference there & one to remember if I'm tempted to chose the book for our discussion.

Our new release is really pretty, but I don't know if I can think of one other score that's all based on exactly one theme - well, yes I can - John Williams' The Long Goodbye.  This is better than that with a lot more variety in the treatments of the theme.  But what a theme!

Whatever shall I eat for supper.  Eating the artichoke for lunch was like eating nothing at all, since I'd jogged four miles.  So far I'm minus calories for the day.  So, I could have a nice barbecue chicken sandwich or my scramble that I like so much, or something different for a change.

And now, I must be going...I'm ushering for a locally written show called Sixties Kicks (http://www.harlequinproductions.org/seasonpages/10/sixtieskicks.html).  It's essentially a concert of 1960s dance music performed in a theater by theater performers...not an existing rock band or group.  It'll be very loud with very high energy.  The theater group, Harlequin Productions, creates this every year.  Last year, they did "Sixties Chicks," and performed songs by women singers and/or songwriters of the 1960s.

Be back later!

TOD:

Why do I assume that Gregory Moffett was the much older brother of little Sharyn?

Yes, I am back, and for the first time in a long time I have returned from seeing a revival of a comedy of which I saw the original production and found the revival as wonderful and in this case better than the very funny original production. I don't remember the physical production of the original LEND ME A TENOR being this athletic and funny. I think the cast is wonderful: Anthony LaPaglia, whom I knew 30 years ago as a bartender, was wonderful as the Italian tenor, and Tony Shalhoub and Justin Bartha are equally amazing. Who woulda guessed that Stanley Tucci would deliver such a funny production. It's wonderfully directed by him.

When we walked out of the MHS auditorium, heading west, we could see 4 skydivers in the semi-dark sky.  They were carrying flares and looked like shooting stars.  They must have been part of the festivities at the balloon fest that's going on at Smith Park this weekend.

As soon as they finish I'm going to powerwash inside and out.  After RAGBRAI I'll paint it inside and out.   I'm also going to paint the deck and eventually the bathroom and hallway.  The rest of the projects I'm giving to the handymen, whether they do it now or later.
