Speaking of orchestrators, today is Larry Hochman's birthday. He's one of my favorite people and a genuine mensch.

Good evening. I didn't make it to the movies today. I'm glad to hear that you loved Enchanted. I still plan to see it before the weekend is over.

I got a new cell phone, and it's great except the battery looks like it still has several bars when it just decides it's out of juice and shuts off without warning. At least on my old phone, it gave you a warning beep or two. Very annoying.

I left it on charge today, knowing that my home machine could still take messages about Thanksgiving details. But when I got home my machine was full of telemarketer calls, which used up all the space. I guess they figure a lot of people will be home today.

So I didn't get any of the calls I was expecting today about what foodstuffs to bring where. (We have 2 family dinners about 60 miles from each other, which is why we were hoping to have it all here.)

Telemarketers----damn them! Damn them all to hell!

Tomorrow I get my cell phone back. It's been a strange week without it.

We always cook the turkey that we take to my Mom's house. (We baste it in champagne and it's delicious!)

But since we don't have a stove, I bought a Honeybaked ham and dropped it off at Mom's today, since we have to go to Greg's family's first.

But, if we had cooked the turkey this year, I might have considered this:

NEW TURKEY RECIPE

Your dinner will be the talk of the TOWN!!
Sure to bring smiles from your guests!
Here is a new way to prepare your Thanksgiving Turkey.

1. Cut out aluminum foil in desired shapes.
2. Arrange the turkey in the roasting pan, position the foil carefully.  (see attached picture for details)
3. Roast according to your own recipe and serve.
4 Watch your guests' faces...

Well, I'm finally done with all of the invoicing that I can do.  I need to go to rehearsal.  Have a good evening, all! ;D

And since it is still Wednesday (but feels like Saturday), I will ASK BK:

How can the The Chance Theater call THE BRAIN FROM PLANET X  a World Premiere?

I began my evening finishing up the DRUNKEN ANGEL DVD.

First there was a 24 minute video analysis by a Danish film scholar about the censorship boards Kurosawa had to navigate to get films made after the war. Very interesting stuff.

As for "Enchanted" - As DR elmore already stated, it's a beautiful movie.  Very clever, and with lots of Heart.  -And if I hadn't been feeling a bit self-conscious sitting next to Larry, I probably would have been a blubbering idiot during the final scenes of the film.

The self-knowing winks and nudges that Disney has allowed itself to make are pulled off with a love and respect for the originals.  -If that makes sense.  And the various cameos and in-jokes also brought a smile to my face many times.

And like DR elmore, I can't wait to see it again.

Then I listened to Donald Richie's audio commentary. He was actually on the set during the making of the film, so he had lots of information to impart. A good, chatty track with only a couple of places where there were protracted silences.

Next, I put in TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, the latest anamorphic DVD release. I got about 25 minutes of it watched.

It is grainier than the last nonanamorphic release, I think (I don't have it any more), but I didn't find the grain unpleasant. And once I got swept up into the movie, I forgot all about it. I listened to the DTS track. Not really a surround sound kind of movie, is it? Still, I love the score so much that I didn't care.

I very quickly guessed the identity of the perp in tonight's PUSHING DAISIES. Despite Christopher Sieber's participation in the show, I had a hard time staying awake. And I did enjoy Ellen Greene's song at the end of the episode.

One very interesting thing about today's viewing of "Enchanted"...  The theatre we were in was having speaker issues.  From what I could tell the center cluster had blown out during the pre-show and previews.  Consequently, the sound was a bit low during the movie.  However, what that actually ended up doing was to make everyone be extra quiet, and actually listen.  -And since a good portion of the audience today were children, that's really saying something!

On the way out of the theatre, I stopped by the customer service desk to report that there was a sound issue in the theatre.  Frankly, I didn't think they would do anything about it.  Well, when I came back about an hour later to catch "August Rush", there was a HUGE line in the upper lobby waiting to see "Enchanted".  And the reason for the line was that they had changed which theatre there were showing it in.  The movie was scheduled to start at 4:00, and it was just a few minutes before 4:00 when I walked back in.  I hope that audience thoroughly enjoyed the movie as much as we did earlier in the day.  However, something tells me that they weren't as quiet.  ;)

Dating, dating, dating. That's just about all PRIVATE PRACTICE seems to have on its mind.

I did like the cases dealing with the sick nuns and the little baby that Addison gets so attached to.

But all the constant dating stories have quickly soured me on the show.

As for PROJECT RUNWAY, I can't find any fault with the two designs that ended up as the bottom two, and I think the one who was found wanting probably deserved it.

But I wasn't enthusiastic about either of the top two designs. Of the two, I liked the one that won better than the second place finisher, but I thought some of the others that were in the "safe" group were better designs and prettier to look at on the runway.

After "Enchanted", DR elmore headed down to Barnes & Noble so that he could purchase the soundtrack to the movie.  Which he did.  We then headed over to The Gap to meet up with DR Jason.  Well, then we headed towards Banana Republic to meet up with DR Jason.  We eventually met up on the sidewalk, and had a brief but nice catch up session on the sidewalks of Broadway.  Then DR elmore headed home, and DR Jason and I headed back into the theatre complex to catch "August Rush".  Well...

Was there some revelation that was supposed to be made by the designer Jack on PROJECT RUNWAY that was hinted at in the promo for the show, but which I somehow missed during the show?  Or did I imagine that in the promo?

As for "August Rush".... Like "Enchanted", it's set mainly in New York City.  Unfortunately, that's where the similarities end.  I didn't not like the movie, but I didn't love it either (like I was hoping I would).  However, I will say that I did get a nice cry from it at the end - although, part of that cry was the one I was holding back earlier in the day from "Enchanted".

The movie requires you to suspend your belief and logic at many points during the movie.  Thankfully(?), you're sort of clued into that during the opening minutes of the film.  It's corny, it's cheesy, and it's "inevitable".  But, again, that whole inevitability is set up right off the bat.  Just go with it, and enjoy the ride.  And laugh out loud - like I did (and others in the theater) - when you get to those couple of points where you just want to say, "What?!??!?!" -But in a good way.  ;)
