My sweet tooth is in real danger.  The Safeway Bakery is now making Nanaimo bars!

It's funny that BK mentioned THE STAIRCASE in today's Notes. I had just learned about it this morning and had gone to Netflix to look for it. Then I came here and viola!

I was pleased to learn that the second season of QUEER EYE starts the end of next week. That was fast! Since it's produced by Netflix they don't need to conform to the traditional scheduling. To me, that's a good thing.

Vacation vibes for DR JOHN G.  Lovely photos.

I love the story and photos DR ELMORE is sharing about Mousey.

Budget vibes for MR BK & Co.  Congrats on getting the set designer you wanted.

Is THE STAIRCASE about that writer in the Carolinas who found his wife dead at the bottom of the stairs?  I have a connection to that case.....

Did you push her?

I had a lot on today's to-do list. I knew I wouldn't get through it all. I was correct, but I'd have preferred to be wrong.

Speaking of "How to Succeed...", I saw that show today at the Kennedy Center.  Of course, it's terribly dated, but I just overlooked that and enjoyed the wonderful performances.  I had never heard of Skylar Astin, but must say he was terrific as J P Finch.  What a voice!  And there were a lot of familiar faces in the cast:  John Bolton, John Michael Higgins, Michael Urie, Betsly Wolfe and Becki Newton.  Nova Y Payton, who does mostly local productions, I believe, was great as Miss Jones.  She's in a lot of the shows at the Signature Theatre in Arlington and appeared in La Cage two years ago with Mr. B.B.

I was afraid there would be a thunderstorm as I was leaving the Kennedy Center since the forecast said they would be starting at about 4 pm.  Luckily it held out.  It did rain after I got home, but no thunder or lightning in my area.

Here's part of Magnificat Rescue's update on Mousey:
We started getting pictures this morning and then we talked to Joyce and to her younger daughter. The meeting between Mousey and their other cat, Princess, will be tomorrow, because they wisely want to do a slow introduction. In the meantime, Mousey is downstairs, in the room with the computer and the recliner. As a result, the entire family troops up and down the stairs to spend time with Mousey.

Mousey is doing splendidly. He is eating well and using his litter box. He was a bit shy last night and hid under the desk. Today, he is busy taking possession of his new family. They cannot get over how affectionate he is and how well he fits in, as if he had always known them. The minute one of them sits on the recliner, Mousey leaps into their lap. They talk to him, telling him how happy they are to have him, and he laps up every word and rubs against them to show he understands what he means to them.

Nice story, DR elmore!

Vibes for TCB. It's hard to believe that it's been a year since Sandy died. How are you feeling about that?

Thanks, John.  It doesn't seem possible that an entire year has gone by.  I still half-expect to hear from him at any time.

When do you leave for Hawaii?

Monday morning.

Exciting, DR JohnG!

Tonight we will finish the last two episodes of Major Crimes.  It is sad that I won't miss this series.  That last season was divided into two stories, 4 episodes each.  So far I am enjoying this second story more than I enjoyed the first, in part due to the energy of a new character portrayed by Will Attenborough son of Michael, grandson of Richard.

Back from a grand dinner with the Geissmans at Barone's.  Had my usual carbonara, salad, and a small creme brûlée

I finished The Staircase - absolutely fantastic and I now know the history of it.  This was originally an eight-part series that ended in 2004 with the verdict in the case.  Eight years later they did a one-part sequel as there was new news.  Then Netflix bought it and they did the additional five episodes, which brings things to a close.  What a story it is, and it's completely unique in that all the interviews happened as everything was happening - there's no one "looking back" from now - that's what's extraordinary about it.  The filmmakers began filming not long after it happened and it all goes down as it's happening from year to year.  Some of the developments are jaw-dropping, the prosecuting attorneys are disgusting, and the sisters of the deceased are so horrible that you will literally scream at the TV for them to shut up.  I don't want to say more - just watch it - it's long at thirteen episodes, but it is very compelling and addictive.

Hey, George, did you know that the Red Wind now sells gift cards?  I don't know if they can be used for gambling, but I would assume so.  The only real difference is that a gift card would not expire after 30 days.

I didn't know that.  My mom has already used the tickets that I gave her, so maybe I'll keep the gift card idea in mind for my dad's birthday.

I think the way you presented your mother's gift was more fun.
