Well, you've read the notes, the notes flew by like a gazelle in a transparent nightie, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they were going to fly in, but boy are their arms tired and they don't even have arms.
-
First Post!!!!
-
And the word of the day is: COMMINATION!
-
*jump in vibes for Alet!*
-
I will actually be arriving in NY early thursday morning, and therefore will be available to help during tech :)
-
Let's do the whole commination facing away from the mirror
a five, six, seven, eight...
-
And the word of the day is: COMMINATION!
I'll have one; Swiss instead of American, and add some mustard, please.
der Brucer
-
When FJL and I were in high school. we were always forgetting the comminations to our lockers!
der Brucer
-
Well, considering the lockers were in the same room where people changed for swim class...
-
Oy and vey, I must get to sleep. I shall post when I arise.
-
I'm flying in to Burbank tomorrow and will bein southern California for a week if anyone would like to get together. Any great, yet affordable, events going on? I'll be checking in with you, but it would be nice to get together. Wherever one or more Hainsie is gathered.....

Just read that Pavarotti died...
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/20607839/
Early this afternoon (Wednesday, actually), I just read an article that said he took a turn for the worse, but didn't say that he had died. :(
It's the end of an era.

Good night, sleep tight,
Don't let the bedbugs bite.
And if they do, just take your shoe
And knock them black and blue...
But don't hurt Oscar 'cause he's new!

Good morning / day!
-
Belated birthday greetings to RLP, Joy and MattH!
I trust you all had a lovely day on your birthday!
-
I have been insanely busy and a rough weekend with my parents...
-
Continued vibes to Bk and the cast of THE BRAIN!
May they bring the house down!
-
I have not read all the notes yet...
MBarnum, anyword on DC Freddy?
-
Freddy is home, safe and sound.
-
Freddy is home, safe and sound.
I guess if I had realized that Dakota was asking the question four hours earlier, I would not have rushed to answer it.
-
How very strange (yes, I am, thank you very much). When I signed in to today's discussion I could have sworn that we had 25 posts. And yet, this is my third post and it only brings us up to 24. Hmmmm.
-
Where is everybody?
-
I would like to convince myself that today is the weekend, then I could go back to bed; but I know for a fact that today is Thursday.
-
I wonder if Ben has been taken prisoner by his oatmeal bowl?
-
Hey, these may not be entertaining, but they are posts.
-
Good morning TCB. It is Thursday but it's very early there. If you're able to sleep you should have time to go back to sleep for a while, I would think.

I read last night that the moon is "Void of Course" up to 13 times a month. How have I lived so long without knowing this? It explains so much :)
-
Good morning, Cillaliz!
-
Time for me to start getting ready for my day. We may have thunderstorms this afternoon. Then the heat is supposed to break again. Woo and hoo
-
Good morning TCB
-
Now, I guess, it is goodbye, Cillaliz.
-
I got up before my wakeup call. Amazing. Now, where in tarnation IS everyone?
-
I must have dozed off for a minute. I dreamed I was back in college at Central Washington State University; and our football team was so awful, that they were going to make us play Michigan!
(Sorry, Ginny, I couldn't resist)
-
There has been way too much errant and truant behavior around these here parts.
-
Will we never get to page three?
-
Will page three never get to us?
-
You may be correct on both counts.
-
DR TCB - I am very frustrated with your medical care team. There have been great advances in the past few years in pain management. They don't seem to have a clew.
-

Perhaps there is a commination in the offing?
-
DR TCB - I am very frustrated with your medical care team. There have been great advances in the past few years in pain management. They don't seem to have a clew.
Well, yes, I am feeling very discouraged myself this morning. Clewless in Tacoma.
-
DR DakotaCelt, hope your parents are OK. And that the situation isn't too hard on you.
-
And the word of the day is: COMMINATION!
And the song of the day: SHOW ME
-
I've actually answered all my e-mails this morning and am slightly ahead of the game, time-wise.
-
Are we STILL on page two?
-
Good morning, all! I'm hoping that Mr Gilfry is coming to this morning's Brain rehearsal, because I will be attending primarily to introduce him to BK, and I'd actually be either working on the new Curtain Calls. I was indeed thrilled to receive the sketch from the MD last night since there was no time to accomplish such a deed in the hectic week I was in LA before opening. I hope this will be the end of the musical adjustments for this round of the Brain since I now have less than 10 days to adjust and write new parts and at the same time finish editorial guidelines for my Toyland job which is what pays not only my rent these days but the Sept 15 IRS estimated tax and this quarter's health insurance premium!
So, I gotta run.
-
Well, yes, I am feeling very discouraged myself this morning. Clewless in Tacoma.
Clewless is not a word I'd use to describe you, any more than clawless.

Only perhaps in regards to where I go from here with my shoulder. I will talk to the physical therapist today, and see if he thinks that three months with him will be beneficial.

;D
-
Good morning, DR Ben! :)
-
The oatmeal bowl (with bananas and raisins) is safely washed and stored until tomorrow morning when the entire cycle begins again.

That's like asking a theatre queen if he owns any cast recordings.

It's terrible being so predictable, isn't it? :)

Perhaps I will try to attend the streetfair (on Sunday) mentioned by BK.
-
I will definitely attend the
Broadway Cares Flea Market (http://www.broadwaycares.org/events/auction.cfm)
on September 23rd
-
I must return to the Annie E. Casey Foundation.
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And I've already had my breakfast (an açai-blueberry smoothy), and I've started a load of laundry too! -Who knew there was life before 10:30am? ;)
-
Who knew there was life before 10:30am?
Define "life."

-
bk - Would you want to do dinner right after your rehearsal? -And where is your rehearsal today? Nola or RA?
-
Perhaps I will try to attend the streetfair (on Sunday) mentioned by BK.
I will try to do that, too.
-
An early dinner would be nice - we're at RA today on the third floor.
elmore, that should be it for adjustments - I listened to Rob sing World of Tomorrow in the higher key and didn't care for it, so it's staying where it is - he completely agreed when he sang both keys back to back.
-

OK. And since I should probably sit in at Mary Poppins again tonight, that would work better for me too.
-
Well, I better hop in the shower now before the handyman returns this morning to finish up the work in the bathroom.

Although they don't mention Brain specificially they do say there will be performances from Noon to 4pm.

Off to the first rehearsal...

***FIRST REHEARSAL VIBES*** for DR Noel and Such Good Friends!!!!

Thursday morning greetings. The best thing I can say about today is that it's payday.
Best rehearsal vibes to our 3 HHW NYMF shows!
Travel vibes for DR Kerry!
-
I shall now be on my way to rehearsal and our first day with Miss Alet Taylor, who will hopefully just pick up all the new stuff quickly and effortlessly so we can begin running the show tomorrow and have true run-throughs begin on Monday.
-
Hmm... Breaking news... A MAJOR Corruption Sting in New Jersey... Lots of public officials involved.

When Larry sent me the Curtain Calls file he mentioned the key for the number wasn't moving; it makes me happier, but I would have done it for you because the cast being happy is more important.
Off to rehearsal.

Crap.
Again I say, "Crap."
Inexplicably (as of yet), my car "died" on the road at a traffic light yesterday afternoon at 5:15, approximately one mile from home.
AAA was called. I was made a "priority". Truck arrived 1 hour 15 minutes later. FUN!
Car towed to my mechanic of choice who was, surprisingly, still at work, but not "working", per se. He wrote out a work order and said he'd call me this morning as soon as he figured out what the trouble is.
Sigh.
Again I say, "Sigh."
And crap, too.
-
Crap.
-
Why is it that all my "icons" are dying off, one by one?
My first "encounter" with Luciano Pavarotti was in Vicenza, Italy, circa 1973. It was via the spectacular recording of "Turandot" with Joan Sutherland, conducted by Zubin Mehta. Many, many, MANY bottles of cabernet have been consumed over these 34 years listening to the glories of that recording...on LP, cassette and CD.
Ciao, Luciano. And thanks, especially, for your spectacular opening ceremonies performance at the Torino Olympics.
-
DR Ron Pulliam - I hope your car woes are easily and speedily fixed.
-
Despite everything, I still say "No" to "Yes, Giorgio."
-
DR Ron Pulliam - I hope your car woes are easily and speedily fixed.
Thank you, Herr Simbulan.
Me, too.
Otherwise, "Crap!"
-
So, is the car in question a relatively new one? Or are you due for a new one?
-
Despite everything, I still say "No" to "Yes, Giorgio."
:)
-
FYI - Second load of laundry just put in the dryer.
-Aren't ya' glad you didn't ask? ;)
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And I've already had my breakfast (an açai-blueberry smoothy), and I've started a load of laundry too! -Who knew there was life before 10:30am? ;)
;D ;D Unfortunately, Jose, most life before 10:30 consists of just what you said--breakfast and laundry. Well, for me it's checking email and HHW, too. ;)
-
Good MOON VOID morning, HHW!
(that's #1, Cilla.)
-
Today I get to observe a grants review panel deliberating over 8 applications for funding for performing arts projects. Interesting to observe the process, which is open to the public because it's tax money being distributed. The event takes place right in the Library auditorium, so I'll be in and out.
-
So, is the car in question a relatively new one? Or are you due for a new one?
The car is a 1990 Ford Probe SL, silver gray, with approximately 66,000 miles on it. I bought it used in 1993 from original owner when it had 33,000 miles on it.
It has been used for driving to/from work, and sundry around-town excursions, as needed. I would be amazed if it were to suddenly be declared truly "dead" as it's in quite sound condition.

The Bay area's air quality is, according to meteorolgist Steve Paulson of our Fox affiliate, "lousy."
We have hazy, smoky overcast conditions, primarily owing to a fire burning in the South Bay for the third (or fourth?) consecutive day.
Add the smoke to the marine layer and you get a very eerie sky, with a sunrise that's both beautiful and ominous. I did not notice any smells yesterday, but I can detect the "smokiness" in the air this morning.

Although, it's a good thing I'm getting into "early mode" since I'll have to be in "early mode" while I'm in Charlotte this weekend. My audition briefing is at 9:00am each day. -Although, at least on Saturday, I'm supposed to be done by Noon, so at least I can take a nap in the afternoon. :)

Car vibes for DR RLP.....irritating machines....
Moon void, you know.
Yes, DR CILLA LIZ....there are several each month, but they usually only last a few minutes at a time.
-
Such wonderful words about the Cabaret Acts from last night in the notes.
Sounds like FUN FUN FUN.
I guess I have seen a few cabaret shows.....but nothing that stands out....for good or ill.
-
MISS KAREN and I have our opening nights tonight......whew!
A bit of rain right now, that's okay.
-
Will we never get to page three?
Eventually.
-
Will page three never get to us?
Probably at the same time.
-
My mindset is in "I'm going to be late for work if I don't move now" mode.
Reality is I'm staying put until I hear from my mechanic.
I have some apple-cinnamon oatmeal heating in the microwave.
It's in my soup bowl. Sadly, there's no "dedicated" oatmeal bowl in my house.

Are we STILL on page two?
We were but we aren't now.

I watched RENO 911:MIAMI last night and laughed.

TCB (or PVC, if you prefer),
It makes me angry to hear about the treatment you're receiving from your doctor. It's just like what I experienced. So little compassion, so much one-size-fits-all. One doctor pooh-poohed my request for a colonoscopy at age 50, gave me a sigmoidoscopy instead, telling me it was the same thing (literally!), then, when it was negative, gave me a verbal pat on the head, completely ignoring all my concerns. I dropped that doc. (He also did some very sloppy prescribing.) Another doc, says to me whenever I express a concern about my health, "But you look so healthy!" Arrrgghhh!! For me, it was a matter of hitting the books, reading up as much as I could, and then being VERY selective with the docs. I have no health insurance, all visits are in cash out of my pocket, so if a doctor or treatment doesn't help, well, you get the picture.
My conclusion, after many years of seeing dozens of doctors and receiving lots of treatment: that the majority of practitioners are far behind the research. There is a LOT of research taking place, but in order to keep up with it, said practitioner must do a lot of reading and/or attend seminars. Most, in my view, have chosen to maximize profits by seeing more patients and have neglected the keeping-up part. I know a number of retired physicians; what they say isn't pretty.
Sorry to be so negative, but that's my view.
-
Good morning!
Another reasonably cool morning, but afternoon temperatures continue into the mid-90s for another week. Argh! How I hate this! But the mornings are cooler. At least that's comething to celebrate.
-

My cable was not restored until this morning. More about that in a minute.

-
LOL....thanks DR JEANNE.
And thanks to DR JANE for the Myoshi link last night. DR MBARNUM told me about an early RCA album that she made, I purchased it and enjoy it very much.....

Break countless legs and arms, DR JRand!
-
Very sorry to read about Marcia Mae Jones (which DR MBarnum posted last night but I didn't read until this morning) and, of course, Pavorotti.
-
Did MATTH or any other DRs see the film THE SECRET LIFE OF WORDS?
I watched it last night, an impulse rental. Very moving story about the atrocities of war-- not for the faint of heart.
-
Break countless legs and arms, DR JRand!
The way the backstage is set up....I just might!! :P
-
The cable repairman showed up about 9:15 this morning. It took him about 45 minutes to fix the damage. Whatever it was that jerked down my phone line Tuesday morning also tore the cable line, too. At any rate, verything's fine now.
When the man came into the house to check on the hookups, etc. he noticed the good picture on the set, and I told him I was on the verge of buying a new set (larger screen, higher resolution, more digital connections), and he offered to buy mine, so now I won't have to advertise for a buyer.
So something good did come from this maddening experience.
-

No, I've never heard of it. I'll keep an eye out for it.

TOD:
I really enjoyed all three cabaret acts I saw last summer at LACC--Jason Graae, Linda Purl, Kevin Spirtas. Another very memorable one was the DC Gay Men's Chorus that I attended many 10 years ago.

No, I've never heard of it. I'll keep an eye out for it.
Very effective at getting the point across without a single graphic scene.
For those of us who don't like gratuitous violence, it's a good case in point.
-
I've just seen a satellite image of the Bay Area and was shocked to learn there are TWO (count 'em 2) fires in the region....one to the south and one to the northeast.
Both fires are contributing to the haze smothering us right now.

Jeannie, I have been finding doctors do not listen to their patients and at time look at you as if there were two heads coming out of you. When a person does research on something they basically put you down as an idiot and chastise you for trying to learn things that they should know. I am not really enchanted with the medical community. There may be a few good ones out there that care but they are few and far between.

You guys put a smile on my face... Minddaw and RLP you two guys are NUTS!!! :)
I mean that with great affection...
Love Jose's eating and walking travels

If anyone is in NYC and is near a Aussie treats shoppe, can you get me a box of TimTam?
I promise I will pay you back...

Lunch break for the grant review team. They have quite a task ahead of them: 8 applications totalling $69,532 in requests and only $38,293 available for allocation. Can't wait for the scores to be tallied and to hear their deliberations.
-
I must have dozed off for a minute. I dreamed I was back in college at Central Washington State University; and our football team was so awful, that they were going to make us play Michigan!
(Sorry, Ginny, I couldn't resist)
Ouch!
Actually, DR TCB, all the ridicule and derision is totally deserved and I hope it provides the wake-up call needed.
-
Time to shower and prepare for the OPENING NIGHT!!!
But first....here is MR BK's new BFF Penny Fuller on the cover of the Playbill Magazine as she starred on Broadway as a replacement in a long-running show.
This performance was seen on October 20, 1964.
One other person pictured was also a replacement....I cropped out a 4th person because it would make it too easy.
What is the play? ;D

Ooh! Ooh! I know! :D

...What is the play? ;D
Barefoot in the Park?
Opening night vibes to you, DR JRand, and also to DR Miss Karen!

OUCH!!!
They will have tough deliberations indeed...
-
Knock em dead Jrand!! Wow them with your wit and charm!
Many vibes!!
-
Miss Karen, Knock 'em dead! You will be smashing!
-
OMIGOD, YOU GUYS!

Can we see Jason photoshopped into THIS one?

Miss Karen, Knock 'em dead! You will be smashing!
That's right! There won't be a plate or a glass left whole in her wake! ;)

Is the one actor on the end, Robert Reed?
-
I like Barefoot in the Park...
-
Can we see Jason photoshopped into THIS one?
Yeah, it's been, like, DAYS since we've had a new DR Jason glamour shot. :)
-
That's right! There won't be a plate or a glass left whole in her wake! ;)
I can see it now... She will bring down the house ;)
-
Yeah, it's been, like, DAYS since we've had a new DR Jason glamour shot. :)
I agree... He is a glamour queen!
-
Yeah, it's been, like, DAYS since we've had a new DR Jason glamour shot. :)
It's a shame it couldn't be animated - as DR Jason has taught me some of the Tony-nominated choreography from the show. ;)
-
Yes, it is Robert Reed....and yes it is BAREFOOT IN THE PARK.
I took Miss Mildred Natwick out of the photo....but it didn't fool anyone!!!
Ms Fuller and Mr Reed replaced.....Elizabeth Ashley and Robert Redford, of course.
Mr Kurt Kaszner and Ms Natwick continued in their roles.
-
I can see it now... She will bring down the house ;)
If the actors don't stop being such divas - she just might...right on top of them.
-
Thanks DR GINNY...all vibes appreciated and used!
-
DR DAKOTA CELT, your efforts will be heard onstage this evening as well.
-
JRand - knock 'em dead tonight!
-
And who is going to replace you in your Simon play, DR JRand57, after the first few years of the run?
-
Ahhhh...I guess soon, I should try and wake BJ up before we need to head off to rehearsal.
-
This is a story from when I used to live in Grand Forks...
One afternoon, Alli and I met for coffee and decided to sit on their patio to enjoy the nice warm sun. We chatted for a bit and then she had to leave to pick up her daughter from school. I looked over and saw this person with nylons and high heel shoes on did not think anything of it.
It was not until some time later that I got up to go inside to get a refill when I noticed it was a guy wearing shorts, a tank top with flowers along with the nylons and high heel shoes. I could not help but think: "Damn this guy has better looking legs than I do!"
-
In the twin cities or larger cities it would not surprise me to see the above scene. In ND it is unusual since so many people are narrowminded.
-
MISS KAREN and I have our opening nights tonight......whew!
Yes, we do -- aaacck! Ditto on the "whew" -- how about a double "whew!" I'm ready to be done with all the behind (no moon void at my theatre!) the scenes prep stuff! I've got 2 divas (and you all know how I love friggin' divas...) in the cast that I'm ready to kick their moons -- at press night the thought crossed my mind to trip them when they started to enter stage right for this one scene cause they were still giving me their two cents worth on how to set their bedding/do the scene change (but I was a good AD and stage manager and contained myself -- but a good reminder to be nice to your crew cause they could really mess with ya if they wanted to ....) .. the same two giving us grief about the lighting for their one scene (I've never been in a play where I've had actors worrying about the lighting) -- the same guy who keeps moving down to center stage whenever he starts singing his solos -- it's about me, me, MEEE! -- D-I-V-A!
-
JRand - knock 'em dead tonight!
Thank you DR CASON. ;D
No one, DR SINGDAW.....no one....we are like the Post Office, we go rain, snow, sleet, hail, or what have you. :D
-
:)
They're pretty progressive in Grand Forks!
-
If the actors don't stop being such divas - she just might...right on top of them.
;D You posted this while I was in the middle of my rant about -- yes, you guessed it! -- my two divas. You know me well, DS!
-
That's right! There won't be a plate or a glass left whole in her wake! ;)
;D DR SingaporeSling, you know me well, too!
-
I am feeling for you DR MISS KAREN. I think being a Stage Manager taught me to be a more thoughtful actor.
I usually don't express my opinions about too many things unless it's necessary. And if I'm in the dark, I figure it's my fault for not following my blocking.
I think about that while I run offstage after Act Two Scene One and pull up the Doctor Drop & Skeleton before changing.
AND....remind them that on BROADWAY at the Music Box Theatre, I saw Miss Petula Clark standing stage left waiting for an entrance holding something in her arms.
She got her GO light, came out onstage unrolled a rug, stood on it, sang a solo, rolled it up and carried it off.
If she can do it.....we can do it.
-
If the actors don't stop being such divas - she just might...right on top of them.
She will be the star and overcome such divas!
She is a classy and vibrant person!
-
;D You posted this while I was in the middle of my rant about -- yes, you guessed it! -- my two divas. You know me well, DS!
A-thank you... ;D
-
Wow...it has always been my opinion that drag should be done onstage in a spotlight - never outdoors in Grand Forks at high noon - or anywhere else for that matter.
-
All right, I am off for now - time to finally have a scene partner in THE BRAIN!
-
And one for Alet.
-
May your opening night be a huge hit, DR Jrand !
-
Jrand, I hope it performs admirably!
-
Joseph McCarthy and Martin Dies (who called my late Uncle Charlie "the baby-faced pinko of New York's docks," LOL) both thought we were becoming a COMMINATION.
-
May your opening night be a huge hit, DR Jrand !
Ditto!!!
Great news, DR CASON....Yoni has landed on earth!! 8)
-
Good luck with rehearsal vibes for CAson, Alet and the rest of the cast of THE BRAIN!
-
Jrand, I hope it performs admirably!
If the sound girl punches the right button at the right time, and Willie kicks out the plug on cue... OY!!! 8)
-
Hang in there, DCelt. Divas are everywhere -- not just theatre (every family has got one ... or two ... or....)
-
And one for Alet.
And Yoni and Zubrick!
-
Gotta scram!
-
Hang in there, DCelt. Divas are everywhere -- not just theatre (every family has got one ... or two ... or....)
Knock 'em dead Karen!
You are correct about Divas, they are everywhere...
-
Our favorite 'aliens' are now in New YOrk and will be tapping up a storm!
-
Theatres should be at the top of the list! :P
To be fair, DR JRand, the funder provides sustaining support for many arts orgs, including Human Race Theatre and Dayton Playhouse. Today is the first of 4 proposal review days for their special projects grants - today's category is Literary/Performing Arts. Later in the month, I'll observe reviews of proposals in Cultural/Multi Arts, Education, and Visual Arts. The interesting thing is that many of the performing arts projects are dance oriented.
-
Sorry to have missed DR Vixmom when she
was wasn't here earlier. Maybe I'll catch her some other time when she is isn't here.
-
Well, it is cloudy and humid today, but I don't think we are going to get rain from the leftover hurricane. I was hopeful.
-
DR Ron Pulliam, I'm so sorry to hear about your car problems and I agree with you on the fantastic TURANDOT recording, absolutely the best!
Mr Gilfry did not get my email since the new apartment is not yet computer-friendly so he did not show up for the rehearsal. It did give me a chance to have a long conversation with the MD and I believe that we will now have a collaborative and friendly time with "The Brain." I'm quite happy about that.
DR JRand150 or whatever the new number is, I hope your opening night is a huge success and that everyone is word-perfect.
It was great to see Alet this morning, beautiful as ever. We all went to lunch together and I'm home and working on the Curtain Calls.
-
Good Afternoon!
Back from a brief stop-in at The Brain. I dropped of some cookies for bk and his crew. From Levain, of course. -Now I'm just wondering if he actually shared them with anyone. It was nice to see Alet for a few seconds, but since I'm heading back there in a bit to catch them at the end of rehearsal, I'm sure I'll see here again. And for more than just a few seconds this time.
-
And I'm also back from my Mary Poppins rehearsal. The new girls have now been taught all the music in Act One. Tomorrow, they'll be on stage blocking Act One. Which, of course, means that they will forget all the music they learned today. ;)
-
And since I had a few hours to myself, I went ahead and headed back to the apartment for bit. I put one more load of laundry in, and then I'll just one more small load to take care of tonight. -Or tomorrow morning. -I just hate leaving dirty clothes in the hamper when I go away for a few days. Plus, I needed some clean clothes to wear down in Charlotte.
-
DR MissKaren - BREAK A LEG TONIGHT!!!
-Or, literally, break a leg. Or two. Four if you're feeling frisky. ;D
-
DR JRand - BREAK A LEG!!!
And I hope Miss Vickie enjoys her "special prize" too. :)
-
Jose - Is there any way of actually reaching you, or is your cell phone never on? :)
-
They're going to have to slow down the tempo of "The Brain Tap" today, to accommodate a Levain-laden company!! :)
-
Jose - Is there any way of actually reaching you, or is your cell phone never on?
Actually...The Enabler is just a figment of our collective overactive imaginations!
-
Jose - Is there any way of actually reaching you, or is your cell phone never on? :)
It's on. It's just in my bag. Hold on...
-
Well, the review panel has completed their work and allocated every penny. Some organizations will be very pleased and some not - especially the proprietary entity that clearly spun off a nonprofit in order to be eligible to apply for funding. Committee saw right through that and gave them $0.00.
-
Jose, who was that avatar I saw for a moment?
-
Or was that a figment of my imagination caused by the moon void?
-
Jose, who was that avatar I saw for a moment?
What? Who? Where? When?
8)
-
Or was that a figment of my imagination caused by the moon void?
All will soon be revealed so to speak. -In the meantime, you may have to clear your cache. -or just close and open your browser.
-
It is SO hot today, just brutal to walk around for any length of time. Ugh! Fall can't get here soon enough.
-
I continued watching GREY'S ANATOMY episodes. I'm up to #22 now.
Sandra Oh did a solo commentary on an episode about the little Amazon fish that swam up the man's penis. Ouch!
-
And got about halfway through the first hour of that two hour pilot episode for Kate Walsh's spin-off now titled PRIVATE PRACTICE. I think the series is just as ridiculous the second time around as I did when I first saw this. Of course, now that they've recast Merrin Dunghy with Audra McDonald and supposedly toned down some of the twee nature of the pilot, I will likely sample PRIVATE PRACTICE to see what changes/improvements they might have made.
-
Well... Time for me to head back into midtown...
Laters...

DR Jose, we all had cookies! Thank you so much fr bringing them.
-
Well, I think I will head back down to see if I can't finsh up with the GREy'S ANATOMY set.
While waiting for the cable repairman today (my cable wire had been torn down by someone or something!), I was able to get the bedroom areas cleaned and a chapter in Harry Potter read, so I'm set to go with more viewing now.
If I finish GREY'S or if I need a break, I'll be watching the Blu-ray version of A NIGHT IN THE MUSEUM.
WBBL.

That's like asking a theatre queen if he owns any cast recordings.
Oh, I donno.
I was assigned to three months of physical therapy to recover from a broken sholder - after three weeks the therapist said -"That's all, you're well."
der Brucer
I must confess that I had secretly done whole lot of my own devised therapy while recuperating (much of it in a pool). I was not in a cast and the trick was to exercise the muscles without putting any strain on the bone.
-

I've been in meetings in which a "butch" lesbian has seriously diminished the testosterone levels of each man present.

Well, I better hop in the shower now before the handyman returns this morning to finish up the work in the bathroom.
Good idea - one should be nicely scrubbed and naked for the handyman.

-
Still no word on my car.
I left home for work via city bus at approximately 10:30 a.m. I called the office when I got into the city and told them where I was and that I would be walking the rest of the way (about 30-35 minutes at a moderate pace). Walking was far more time-considerate than doing "transfers" which would have taken about an hour, so circuitous is the trip.
A co-worker, instead, volunteered to pick me up.
I got into the office at approxiamtely 11 a.m. Went to lunch at 11:30 p.m. Have "caught up" on outstanding work, and the office has a staff meeting at 3 p.m.

It's too hot here today, too.
I may be having a rehearsal tonight, it was tentatively set for later, but I just heard from a singing partner that she won't be coming; not sure if Matt is coming. . .so I may be back laters. (AH! A Jose-Takes-the-Blame reference)!
Singdaw, if you're listening. . .I have some of what you requested. :-*

Definitely a highlight of the third season. :o

I don't know if this has been mentioned yet (sorry if it has), but according to The Associated Press, 'The Closer' No. 1 in Cable Ratings (http://www.comcast.net/tv/index.jsp?cat=TELEVISION&fn=/2007/09/06/756730.html)!!

I'm another. After the pilot, Grace can save herself without me.

~~~VIBES TO WHOEVER WANTS AND/OR NEEDS THEM!!~~~
I'm feeling a little woozy right now, so I'm going home (and having a LOT of available sick leave makes it easy :)). Have a good evening, all! Hopefully, yours will be better than my afternoon. :P
DR Dakota, FAMILY VIBES!
-
My mother went to get her manicure and pedicure early this morning only to find that it was next week. She blamed the moon void, lol. Well she said it was because there wasn't a moon or whatever it was that I told her
-
We are going to have lots of thunderstorms tonight, so I'll be unplugging the computer soon.
-
Back from rehearsal and dinner. It's great having Alet finally with us, but it was a day just spent getting her into the big numbers, when I would have much preferred to run scenes, because everyone else needs to keep running the scenes. Tomorrow we put her into the scenes and since she already knows most of that blocking, I'm hoping we'll be able to concentrate on performances a bit, albeit without our Fred.
After rehearsal, Alet, Jose, and I went to some New Orleans-style place (The Delta something or other) - the food was terrific. I had a catfish po' boy, Alet had the largest plate of fried chicken I've ever seen, Jose had some fried okra and an oyster po' boy and we all shared a little side of excellent mac and cheese. No dessert, thank goodness, but I did have two of their tiny little corn muffins with butter, and I'm happy to report that this jernt actually serves salted butter, something that is a given in LA but a rarity in NY.
I'm now home, feeling like I'm going to explode. I was going to take a long walk, but I'm just too zonked to do anything other than sit here like so much fish.
-
Will we never get to page eleven?
-
OPENING NIGHT VIBES
to DRS JRand57 and Miss Karen
DR Kerry-Good traveling & have a nice time in LA. Did you find anyone in town to visit with?
Let's try this one more time
Mom can't get her manicure dance
-
I'm hearing lots of thunder all of a sudden.....laters.....
I also did not want to rip Aunt vulture in front of her grandkids.
Smart choice. I regret the times I fought with my sister in front of my children, nephews and nieces. It doesn't matter if you are right & they know it, it still looks bad.
This is your father's sister, right?
-
Cilla-LOL
-
DR TCB-What did the therapist say today?
DR Noel, how did your first rehearsal go?
DR Ron-VIBES you have a solution to your car woes by the end of the day!
-
From cilla:
Which mattress is it that has the commercials with the wine glass and someone jumping on the bed?
I think that is a Temper-Pedic, or another brand of a memory foam mattress. We find those extremely uncomfortable.
I showed Keith my top three Simmons pics, he chose the plush style vs pillowtop. How he can tell after 3 minutes is beyond me ::)
Today I think I did prefer the mattress Keith liked, yesterday it was my 2nd choice. I want to go back one more time. I find no matter what mattress I try, my back hurts after a few minutes. I want to go & test only the one we are thinking of getting & see what happens.
-
I think our hurricane today is a bust. :(
Beautiful photographs Laura!
-
Sorry Laura.
-
At least it was cooler today.
And thank you all for tolerating my photos. I don't watch tv or movies and rarely see a live show, so I have nothing to post except photos.
Listening to some bossa nova and relaxing.
Did you know there's a new iPod out? More importantly, did you know that the 80gig iPod is now under $250, the price having dropped upon the new release. And did you know that the iPhone has dropped in price $200?
-
Is there anything on TV worth watching?
-
More CLOSER stuff.
From Cilla:
She did say "But Fritz doesn't drink"
Yes, and we have seen him drinking from a wine glass, & pouring wine for Brenda. I don’t remember him stating he doesn’t drink, or if we ever saw a wine bottle being poured into his glass. I’m trying to figure out when the writers came up with this idea!
Matt H, you will have to watch all the episodes again so you can give me a full report. ;)
-
If you could watch THE CLOSER from the beginning you might enjoy it.
-
Bruce, I can't remember. Did you watch BURN NOTICE?
-
Here are two more links to information on the Street Fair mentioned by BK
Theatre Block Party (http://www.theatermania.com/extras/TMTheaterBlockParty/)
BroadwayWorld.com (http://www.broadwayworld.com/calendarmoreinfo.cfm?id=7378)
Although they don't mention Brain specificially they do say there will be performances from Noon to 4pm.
I wonder if DR MBarnum knows that Brian D'Arcy James will be performing at the Street Fair this weekend?
DR Ron-VIBES you have a solution to your car woes by the end of the day!
The trouble turned out to be a "fried" ignition starter module. It's an "electronic part" -- the whole experience will cost me about $350, including parts and labor (with the replacement module costing $250 of that total).
I leave in a few minutes to pick up my car!
Good news on the weather front....the temperature has dropped significantly as onshore breezes have picked up (after a lo-o-o-o-ng absence, IMO) and cool air is being pumped in, driving out all that muggy warm air. The smoke remains "above" the fray, sad to say, but the cooler air means I don't have to run the A/C tonight!
I wonder if she once worked at the Drama Book Shop as a manager?
I'll bet she's the very one.
Congrats to Bryan passing his MCAT!!
TCB (or PVC, if you prefer),
It makes me angry to hear about the treatment you're receiving from your doctor. It's just like what I experienced. So little compassion, so much one-size-fits-all. One doctor pooh-poohed my request for a colonoscopy at age 50, gave me a sigmoidoscopy instead, telling me it was the same thing (literally!), then, when it was negative, gave me a verbal pat on the head, completely ignoring all my concerns. I dropped that doc. (He also did some very sloppy prescribing.) Another doc, says to me whenever I express a concern about my health, "But you look so healthy!" Arrrgghhh!! For me, it was a matter of hitting the books, reading up as much as I could, and then being VERY selective with the docs. I have no health insurance, all visits are in cash out of my pocket, so if a doctor or treatment doesn't help, well, you get the picture.
My conclusion, after many years of seeing dozens of doctors and receiving lots of treatment: that the majority of practitioners are far behind the research. There is a LOT of research taking place, but in order to keep up with it, said practitioner must do a lot of reading and/or attend seminars. Most, in my view, have chosen to maximize profits by seeing more patients and have neglected the keeping-up part. I know a number of retired physicians; what they say isn't pretty.
Sorry to be so negative, but that's my view.
DR Jeanne, I appreciate your concerns. My emotions go from discouragement to anger and then back again. I was almost hostile by the time I got to the physical therapist this afternoon, but he did manage to calm me down. He didn't do crap for the pain, but I have a feeling he may start advocating for me with all the medical parties involved.
-
Dr Ron, I am only up to page 4 of the posts, but I wanted you to know that I am keeping good thoughts about your auto.
-
Congrats to Bryan passing his MCAT!!
Thanks. It isn't really a matter of passing, it's the numbers that count. And he got them. :)
If only having the numbers would make all the schools fight for him to go to their school. And if they would all do this in the next couple of weeks.;D
The reality is, it is very difficult to get into medical school & applying is an expensive, long drawn out process.
-
Good news on both counts Ron.
-
Can we see Jason photoshopped into THIS one?
Case, I think you may have already spent too much time in the Big Apple (or at the reservoir)
My experience with PT is you often need pain meds just to do the therapy. Most the time I find that therapy helps me heal & if I keep up the exercises at home, for the rest of my life, it helps keep the problems under control & the pain levels down.
I'm very pleased the therapist was understanding. Did he have any suggestions.
DR JMK-How is the remodeling going? Are you guys still sane?
Is there anywhere in Portland to get a good Jewish Rye?
-
The trouble turned out to be a "fried" ignition starter module. It's an "electronic part" -- the whole experience will cost me about $350, including parts and labor (with the replacement module costing $250 of that total).
I leave in a few minutes to pick up my car!
There goes all that birthday money!
I'll bet she's the very one.
I'm sorry to hear New York's gain is your loss!
-
such a dignified avatar TCB... You look handsome!
Retouching my avatar was cheaper than a face lift! ;)
He thinks that since the surgeon was so convinced that the cortisone injection would solve the problem, that he may have missed slightly the target and that a second shot might work. He said that the long needle they use makes it tough to always find the perfect spot for the cortisone. Hey, I am ready to try it again.
And with your shoulder problem, you certainly couldn't carry around a window coated with vaseline for us to see you through.
-
If you could watch THE CLOSER from the beginning you might enjoy it.
I have the first disk of season one here. I've watched a lot of reruns, including all of this season the other day. I just haven't watched it yet. I'm thinking this weekend may be the time.
Interesting. Be sure to call the surgeon back first thing tomorrow morning. And again later in the day if you don't speak to him. Be a pest until you do, or at least relay a message & get a response.
-
Cilla, are you paying special attention to Fritz's drinking habits?
-
Yeah, don't tell Jrand57, but I think that was what killed Lucy!
-
I haven't started watching it yet. I caught the reruns before I saw the last episode, so I wasn't paying attention. I'll pay attention when I watch and let you know
BB SPOILER
VERY interesting tonight. I never thought this would be the final four. I am liking the D and D more and more. Tonight was quite the coup for them. Even if you don't like them, you have to admit they have played a really good game.
-
Don't you just hate it when you are watching something on the DVR and you forget you can fast forward through the commercials?
-
Thanks Cilla.
You can?
DR Noel, how did your rehearsal go?
-
Yeah, don't tell Jrand57, but I think that was what killed Lucy!
Her window was coated with concrete.
Having a bit of a problem with the buy who I sublet from for the first few days of my stay. He made me give him a $200 deposit which was supposed to be returned the day he got back in town, which was yesterday. Apparently he sent an e-mail a week ago asking me to call him to set up a time to get the keys back. All fine and dandy except I didn't get the e-mail. Now, the guy has my number, and he has Miss Patti's number (since she found the sublet for me and dealt with him) - did he call? No. Miss Patti left him several messages yesterday and today, none of which were returned, so I wrote him a note asking where the money was (he was supposed to paypal it). I told him that I expected it by the end of this evening, otherwise I'd stop by there tomorrow after rehearsal and he could give me cash and I'd give him keys.
He wrote me back saying he was out of town (yes, he got back yesterday and left today or so he says) and we can't wrap it up until the 11th when he returns. Now, never mind that I stayed in his place for three days even though I paid for a week. Never mind that he didn't return my deposit right after I moved because he had to make sure his little sty of an apartment was in the same condition that he left it (it was, plus I left him some toilet paper, which is more than you can say for him). So, I came on really strong, saying that if I had to wait until the 11th that paypal was no longer an option, he had to have cash and we'd meet and exchange, but that I didn't appreciate the games.
I guess I made him very nervous - the next e-mail was one of those "why are you getting so upset" things and that given the tenor of my e-mail he didn't really want to meet me or anyone associated with me - he'd paypal the money and I could mail the keys back. I told him that was fine.
The paypal payment arrived five minutes later and I told him I'd send his keys tomorrow. Then I looked at the payment - an eCheck - five business days to clear, expected clearing date the 12th. Well, I wrote him right back and said "What if I'd sent you my payment for the sublet and deposit as an eCheck and it was five business days to clear - would you have let me have the keys and let me stay there prior to it clearing?" I think we know the answer - so, I told him I'd be mailing his keys after it cleared, which is even later than him getting back on the 11th. I gotta tell you.
Fritz drinking report....Post 1
Pilot - Fritz has a drink at the bar, but it looks like water or soda water, he has a glass of wine there for Brenda
-
I really liked the CLOSER pilot. I figured it out really quickly, but it was fun to watch it develop.
-
I wonder if DR MBarnum knows that Brian D'Arcy James will be performing at the Street Fair this weekend?
Dang!
-
Thank You Jose for getting my Avatar to finally work.
Bless you for your patience
Bruce, I can't remember. Did you watch BURN NOTICE?
If he's seen it, he's never mentioned it; I would definitely have noticed. He might find some interest in the ambiance of MAD MEN, too, but again, hard to get into a serialized show like this without seeing it from the beginning.
-
Got to the end of Season 3 of GREY'S ANATOMY. I didn't like the cliffhagners at all this season. In rpevious seasons they were superb, but this year, it just seemed like so much gloom and doom for everyone. Very unsatisfying.
-
DR ArnoldBrockman has a face! And a nice face it is. I watched TIM GUNN'S GUIDE on Bravo tonight; I laughed lot. It's nice to see a model with a brain and I really like themodel who advises with him. There were some very funny moments. I'll try to catch the BURN NOTICE repeat on Saturday afternoon.
Fritz drinking report post 2
Second episode (first after pilot)
Brenda to Fritz : "Are you still not drinking because I could use a tall glass of merlot"
-
Next, I watched all the special features on the disc. My favorites were the outtakes and the unaired scenes. There was one confrontation between Derek and Mark that should have been in the show. Gave SO much added character to Sloan who often comes off as such a womanizing prick.
No fears, DR Elmore. There was no BURN NOTICE tonight. US Open Tennis.
I finished my evening watching a new episode of MAD MEN. A wonderful storyline for Bryan Batt who did a grand job with his scenes. I wouldn't have minded a lot more with that confrontation and less with Draper and his beatnick girl friend.
-
I didn't have a chance to check out today's AS THE WORLD TURNS but I'll get to it tomorrow.
We need Thirteen to kick in
Kick!
Kick!
K-I-C-K !!
I forgot to mention this yesterday, but when I went back downstairs in the late afternoon, instead of immediately going into the den, I took out an old Smothers Brothers LP - MOM ALWAYS LIKED YOU BEST, and just had the best time reliving their endearingly innocent antics. I also love that on their comedy albums, there would occasionally be whole, beautiful songs with the brothers singing in such glorious harmony together. Their blend was really magical.
-
The first rehearsal was very much like a dream. The day was just about teaching seven of our players their songs, but they're such pros, as they'd sing through they already brought such wit, warmth and personality to the songs. My director, musical director and I also found time to finish our meeting going over the score: in all, we spent ten hours poring over every measure, talking about every intricacy of the music – the feels, the tempos, the lead-ins, the cues, even the voicing of chords. This weekend, I'll have to go over the tapes of these meetings, making a myriad little changes.
Noel-Great News
I've got some writing to do and then off to bed.
Mr. Brockman is so distinguished-looking.
