Title: I, FOR ONE

Well, you, for one, have read the notes, you, for one, have gotten the drift of the notes, and now you, for one, shall madly post away until the cows, for one, come home.

If I could take the HHW time machine and go back in time (and return), I'd like to go back to whenever it was that the pyramids in Egypt were built and see how they did it.  I'd also like to go back to when (and see how) Stonehenge was built.  That's what I'd like to see back in time.

Good Morning!

Well... I thought I was sleepy and ready for bed...

...Then my brother called me to ask me to tape the late night re-broadcast of "Oprah" since it was a re-run of the show where she had the author of "A Million Little Pieces" on - and my brother, Jay - who is in San Diego - just really wanted a chance to see the interview.  So...  After digging around for a blank VHS tape, and figuring out how to tape on the VCR here and set the timer... Well...

Due to the football game earlier in the evening, ABC was running about an hour behind schedule.  So, then I wasn't sure if they would just bump the late-night lineup by an hour, or make other adjustments.  And since my brother was really interested in seeing the show... And he had gone to the trouble of looking up the schedule online.  *He would have taped it out in San Diego, but due to the football games and the time difference, there was no "Oprah" today - in neither her regular daytime or late night slot.  So...

"Oprah" started at 3:00am.  And, of course, I ended up getting sucked in, and watched the whole show.  Ah, well...

And then...

Since I had some time to kill during the commercials, I started going through some of the photos on my digital camera...

And if you look to the left, you'll see what I ended up working on during the commercials.

...And for those of you interested in a very gripping, painfully(!!) honest, and, at times, harrowing read, "A Million Little Pieces" will provide that for you.  However, it also provides a great message of hope - and inspiration - for those dealing with and affected by drug addiction and alcohol.  The author, James Frey, really pulls no punches in describing his process from his rock bottom moment though his drug rehabilitation.  Not for the faint of heart, but worth the "risk".

Thanks for all the health-ful good vibes!

I have now completed my second full day of work, with no bad things occurring to my health.
The cellulitus has retreated, thanks to antibiotics, rest and positive vibrations.
Tonight, I started out stocking shelves in Health and Beauty, moved over to Cosmetics AND believe it or not, ended the shift in Ladies' Lingerie. . .hey, BK, saw many, many tongs!  Some of them had bejewelled butterflies on them!

It's nice to come home to a hot cup of coffee, a toasted bagel and a warm, lick-filled greeting from Dixie Bell!
It's also nice to go out of the house to go to work. . .and work. . .and get paid for working. (of course, all that may change after the 31st when the store has its grand opening).

Good Morning TD and all other Hainsies and Kimlets!

I said it a couple of days ago but I am really back. I know I'm back because I'm sitting at my office desk, a place I have not been to since November 23rd.

I have much catching up to do, still but I need to regain my posting power besides getting back into the work flow.

As George said in an earlier post, my debut on Radio Wales in a live interview with Beverley Humphreys only plays for about 35 minutes. There was supposed to be a split signal and football was scheduled for FM but something went wrong and we get five minutes of football and no more Showtime. From what I heard, I think there is about 20 minutes more, 10 of Bev and me talking and 10 minutes of music. I'm hoping to get a full copy of the show from Bev or Bridget (the producer) so I can send out copies to those of you who might like to hear the entire show. I haven't heard back yet but when I do, I will let you know.

Being in Cardiff on the BBC was one of the most special moments in my life. It was like sitting in a cozy room and chatting with Beverley for an hour. And then we went out for dinner and continued the conversation. I remember a TOD about best Christmas presents sometime before I left. Well, I have an answer now. It was self-arranged and something of a surprise (I didn't expect to be on for the entire hour) but this was one of the most magical and special presents I could ever have received.

On that high note, I'm going to get some coffee and try to get back into work mode. We are still on Dublin time (it's 1pm in the afternoon in Dublin). I woke up at 4am and started making some breakfast. Anthony woke up soon after (and he's not a morning person). We had breakfast and I came into the office and he's working on the 273 pictures. I won't post them all but in a week or so I should have a few shots of us in Dublin and Cardiff including a shot or two of me in front of the microphone.

TTFN.

I guess I am too stuck in the 20th/21th century to want to go back to any other time. Where diseases, illnesses ran rampant. Also the minor inconvienes of no flush toliets, takeout, electricity and haines his way.

Well, it's good to see the morning crew back!  Hello, DRs Ben and MichaelShayne!

I have a fraught day with lots of tasks, but I will check in whenever.

TOD:
The Time Machine would break with all my stops and starts.  Right now I want to go to June 17, 1903 and sit in the opening night, Chicago, BABES IN TOYLAND to recover the missing lyrics to "If I Were a Man Like that" from BABES IN TOYLAND and pick up the band parts to the missing "Evaline McCook," since  they're both getting cut next day.  Then I'd want to go to the October 1903 New York opening to hear the lost "An Old-Fashioned Rose."

I'd also like to hit several other opening nights, from THE BEGGAR'S OPERA, 1728, on.  Historical events sound exciting, but they sometimes come with violence, mob control, and bloodshed.  I'd rather read about them if I can't stop them.

Hello, Michael!!!

You weren't on when I said hello to Larry but now you are so I can greet you properly.

TOD may be addressed later. Since I just returned from a lengthy vacation I will have to think about which time and place I would return to if possible.

I also watched MEDIUM last night (here it's also on at 9pm).

I echo DR MattH's statements about it being intense.  Parts were almost uncomfortable (it featured Alison being "possessed" by a killer).

It is always interesting to see where her dreams will lead.  And this season has been extremely unpredictable.

It was a good episode.  Although a bit scary.

Good line vibes to the cast of DECEIT....

Glad that DRBEN is back....DR td is employed.  Yes, we have MAIL today. I am expecting a couple of things, too.  And I hope they arrive!

TOD:  Well....hmmm.  I guess I would like to visit my ancestor Henry the Black when he was King of Germany and Duke of Bavaria just to see what things were like in the 11th Century!  I guess I would have to learn to ride a horse.

I think I'd go back to the first century B.C. to see what Roman life was REALLY like under Julius Caesar. ROME was a fascinating but somewhat frustrating series for me (after the highs of I, CLAUDIUS), and that entire period of history is just SO intriguing. I'd love to see the life of a royal, a senator, a centurion, and a slave. So many distinct classes of people in that culture, and I think it'd be fascinating to observe them all.

I'm very happy to see SCRUBS finally back on the NBC schedule even though it's going to get creamed in the ratings by football on ABC. I'll definitely be watching SCRUBS.

LAW & ORDER: SVU has a new episode tonight, too, that I'll be watching. I must remember to set the DVR to get THE CLOSER which is on opposite SVU.

The HOUSE rerun tonight with Ron Livingston is also an excellent episode that I wouldn't mind seeing again.

I'm thinking that I would like to go to ancient Greece and attend a performance of one of Aristophanes' plays.

BTW, how does the HainsHisWay Time Machine work?  Is it like George Pal's comfy settee? Or like the weightless bouncing through the Time Tunnel?  Or does one have to consult with the I Ching?

I'm up, after a somewhat restless night of sleep, due to my body being unaccustomed to a normal schedule.  I will attempt to think of a TOD later, after the coffee kicks in.  I will add, though, that if I could use the trusty HHW time machine to go FORWARD in time, I'd go ahead to the end of this month and find out if I still have a place of employment.

Well, I joined Netflix! And I now have 20 movies in my queu! LOL!

I think this will save me a LOT of money in DVD purchases...they have a HUGE selection. Normally when I am researching someone that I am going to, or might, interview I am forced to buy DVDs of their movies (since the local rental places rarely have the movies I need to look at)...now for $14.99 I can get my movies fast and unlimited...and I can view those movies that might be fun to watch but that I wouldn't necessarily want to spring the big bucks for.

Today they are sending me DOOMSDAY VOYAGE  and something else, maybe a Russian film or something with Matt Battaglia in it...I can't recall.

How does Netflix work exactly?  Do you get to request what you will see exactly or do you just get whatever  they happen to send?

Title: Re:I, FOR ONE
Post by: MBarnum on January 03, 2006, 10:44:33 AM
Netflix works like this: You pick the movies that you want to have sent to you and in what order. For instance I have, so far, 20 movies lined-up. Two at a time are sent out under the plan that I chose. After I watch them I can send them back and two more will be sent.  Postage is paid by Netflix. The turnaround is very fast as there are Netflix centers all over the place, including right here in Salem.  You can choose from over 50,000 movies. They even have a TON of Bollywood movies! So I can find all of my obscurities.

If you check out their website it will give more info. www.netflix.com.

George listened to Showtime on December 21 to see if I would be on and record the show if I was (I wasn't on that week) and then he listened and recorded the show on December 28 (my live BBC debut) so that all my fans and friends can hear the show. As I mentioned earlier, I'm hoping to get a complete copy of the show (with the missing 15 minutes) but George has performed a great service by recording the 35 minutes for me.

You're a Prince George (you can be a King if you want). Thanks for helping me out during this busy time!

Just goshawful.

I don't even wanna talk about it, but it was one of the most unpleasant days of my life.

Thanks for the compliments on the new avatar.  In a classic "stroke of vanity", I just wanted to make sure that what I was starting to see in the mirror was really happening, so I set up the self-timer on my camera...  And I think I do see "something".

DR Jose...are you starting to grow a moustache?

Nope.  That's just my 5:00 shadow.  5:00AM shadow, that is.  ;)

I tried to grow a moustache once, but I couldn't help laughing at myself every time I looked in the mirror.  ::)  And talk about bristly!

However, I still sort of observe my "tradition" of not shaving during tech weeks, but that's usually dictated by the fact that I'm just too tired - and running late - in the morning to shave.  ;)

And as for the HHW Time Machine...

-Mozart playing and conducting one of his piano concertos.  -And sneaking in a tape recorder so that I could eventually transcribe his cadenzas.

The first performance of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony.

The first performance of Stravinsky's "Le Sacre du Printemps".  -Did "classical music" audiences really get that rowdy back then?  ;)

MBarnum: 470 is a bit excessive, I'll admit. Since I'm on the 3-at-a-time plan, it'll be years before I clear out my queue.

I couldn't care less about staying at home at this point. I was so bored yesterday I wanted to die. I just don't ever want to have to talk to these morons on the phone EVER AGAIN! Every teacher in the country got back to school today and apparently realized that they hadn't ordered the materials for their spring musical - all of which seem to be opening in two months.

This is no surprise - they all wait til the last minute and January and February are always the busiest time of year for us. I just don't want to do this anymore. I think 2006 will have to be the year I make my return to acting if for no other reason than to just get the hell out of this place!

Back to work...

Hi Jason, thanks for the warm welcome.

We got back into the city yesterday afternoon.  Our flight was delayed about 45 minutes, which was great considering the most ginormous hail storm in the history of man began about 5 minutes prior to our arrival at the airport...

I am glad to be back.  A huuuuugggee thank you to DR Jason for taking care of our kitties.  They were happy and healthy upon our arrival, and they were clearly well cared for in our absence.  Thank you!!

This isn't a Dublin picture but it's a shot. We got back on New Year's Eve and were not especially tired (we got back to the apartment at 7pm) so we went to a party a couple of blocks away. This picture shows you how we looked at midnight with a glass of champagne in my hand. We got the funny noses in Dublin. They were being handed out on the street by a cell phone company called Meteor. You can't tell from the picture but they blink when you put them on your nose.

I'm back at work at GMHC this afternoon.  I almost didn't make it, I woke up with a troubled tummy.  I think I made a poor choice of leftovers last night for dinner...

Oh well, I suppose a day of fasting couldn't hurt after the excess of the last week and a half.  But I am disappointed that I couldn't make it to the gym this morning.  My new year's goal is to start running again.  I'd like to start by running the mile at least once a week, with the goal of increasing the speed and distance over time.

DR RLP - forgot to comment, but yes, I agree that Santino from PROJECT RUNWAY is more evil than Wendy Pepper - and THAT is going some.  I still think Wendy wrote on her own kid's picture so she could have some drama.  AND Kara Saun should certainly have won last year's competition.  Jay's Thrift Store Layered Chic was/is ugly.

I don't have a favorite so far this year, but I think Emmett and the Chinese girl who won the Clothes off Your Back challenge are interesting.

The lingerie collections were ALL disasters....from start to finish!

DRJASON - I feel your pain.  Many members of the board of the PCPH are teachers.  There is just a different type of thinking there.  Not saying it's good or bad....just different.  Of course they have to deal with surly administrators and apathetic students and non-existent budgets...so empathy is in order.

Had I but known from the "spicy" notation that it meant "five-alarm conflagration", I would have ordered something else.

I began this afternoon's video watching by finishing ONCE UPON A MATTRESS. As I said yesterday, not as crisp as the high definition broadcast, but the DVD is in widescreen and enhanced for 16:9 TVs, so it's the best it can be with current DVD technology. It does look very good.

Then I watched ANNA AND THE KING OF SIAM. Having watched THE KING AND I so many times over the years, I had forgotten the several deaths that are a part of this version of the story. And I was weeping uncontrollably at the end, much more than I ever weep at the end of THE KING AND I now.

But that could just be familiarity. It's probably been 10 years since I last saw ANNA AND THE KING OF SIAM.

The DVD had one little blemish that I noticed. The rest looked splendid, and the sound was just fine for a 1946 film.

I guess after being disappointed by the "numbers" earlier in the week (sheesh, and it's only Tuesday), I wasn't expecting that I could even try them on comfortably, but, gladly, I was proven wrong.  It truly was the perfect bit of affirmation that all the work I've been doing over the past couple of weeks has been paying off.

I'm very happy to see SCRUBS finally back on the NBC schedule even though it's going to get creamed in the ratings by football on ABC. I'll definitely be watching SCRUBS.

Isn't Scruns on Tuesday? Football is on Mondays on ABC and I believe it was also cancelled and the last broadcast was a couple of days ago.

Not the NFL, the bowl games.  They were not played on january 1st but instead are being spread over this week!  Tonight a game and tomorrow (wed) the Rose Bowl!

Sweet Whillaker's Ghost! Rodzinski is back!!!

Hope everyone had nice holidays. I was, as reported by my esteemed colleague TPunk, off galavanting about my boyhood haunts, what we call "Chicagoland".

I was a bit subsumed by family, so I am sorry to have neglected my internet "family", but I shall do my best to catch up and return to solid citizenship here at HHW.

I did, at least, get to meet the great JRand in person at the World of Wisdom Bookstore.

A million thanks to DR Jason for taking care of Mssrs. Killbot and Walty.

Meeting JRand was quite a happy accident, as we had checked and they said he was not working the day we were in Indianapolis, and TPunk got the idea to leave him some goodies, which we did, and just by chance he stopped by to help choreograph a little Elvis impersonation/dance.

What else did we do? Saw a few movies, gambled a few bucks on the casino boat in Hammond, and just generally visited with my various sisters and their broods.

There was one day that the sun shone.

HI all,
Just a warning. I received an email that looked like a legitimate Paypal email, but it said I had purchased an engine for 600 and some dollars with 200 something for shipping. It was addressed to Dear Paypal Member, and had a link to click on if I didn't authorize the payment.   I didn't click on it, instead I opened a new window and went to the Paypal site and saw that this transaction had never been taken out of my account.   I also read that Paypal NEVER addresses a receipt  or email about a transaction to "Paypal member" or anything like that - they use your name.   I forwarded the email to spoof@paypal.com and later received confirmation that it was a spoof email and that if I had clicked on the link (I didn't) I should immediately change my Paypal password.

So, I just thought I'd pass on the warning.

Vixmom - I haven't had Netflix long, but I love it. I love being able to keep a dvd until I get around to it and getting the next ones back very quickly when I send one in.   Bride and Prejudice should be here tomorrow.  I'm inching my way into Bollywood.

I had a DVD from Netflix for several months before I finally gave up and just paid for it.  I couldn't find it at all!  I know I have it buried somewhere in my house, but I have no idea where.  Someday (hopefully soon), I'll go through all my stuff and get rid of a lot of things and find it...hopefully real soon! ;) But if I do find it, I know I can keep it and not feel guilty. ;D

We had a good show tonight.  A sort of small house, well, maybe more like a smaller house.  But very appreciative.  -And everyone in the cast, crew and orchestra came back rested and rarin' to get going again after the day off.

They helped, but were much more restrained, limiting themselves to one piece or two at the most. They raved about it but were keeping their diets.

Started with last night's CSI: MIAMI which was a sad case of a girl found drenching wet in a park where there had been no rain for days. As always, the show looked great in HD.

Thank you, DR Jennifer, for supplying the information to Michael Shayne's "correction." Yes, it is the time of year for bowl games, DR Michael, and that was the football to which I was referring. The bowl game on ABC dominated the ratings on Monday night, and I'm sure the game tonight and the game tomorrow night (the national championship featuring the #1 and #2 teams in the Rose Bowl) will be no different.

Well, I'm going to have to wussburger. I didn't sleep well last night and am very tired.   I think I'm just stressed out over working out the final house details and realizing how much work I'm going to have to do to get the deal done, move in and get this house on the market by March (a self set time limit that I can move but would rather not)...oh yeah and go to work too.   I think tomorrow we will have the details  worked out and it will just be a matter of everything falling into place.

It will all be over before you know it, but this is when I need the time machine to move me forward until the time that it is all done and I'm happily in my new home.

SCRUBS is crazier than ever, and for this show, that's going some. I laughed out loud several times, but I did think everyone was trying perhaps somewhat overly hard to be wacky which blunted some of the humor at least for me.

I got called tonight by someone connected with the production of SEUSSICAL (that I debated about auditioning for before the holidays but decided I didn't want to) asking me to take a small part. I declined.

I have auditions for A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC that come up a couple of weeks after SEUSSICAL closes, and I told her that my days of doing one show after another were gone forever.

Not the same theater group at all. So no problem there. And I think they weren't really thinking I'd drive 25 miles (each way) to do a tiny part in a show I didn't audition for in the first place. The only roles I've ever driven that far for were substantial making the cost in gas and wear and tear on the car worthwhile.

Speaking of football, I'm anxiously watching the Penn State/Florida game.  Isn't it funny how the borders of our support territory expands as our home teams lose?  Happy Valley is about 200 miles away from me and here I am rooting for them to win because of their "proximity" to Philadelphia.

The only connection I really have with Penn State is a very bizarre trip there when I was in high school.  Our school concert choir was chosen to participate in a competition that took place on the Penn State campus.  We had to be at our school at 4:00 am to get on the bus that would take us there.  The bus trip was four hours, with just one pit stop.  When we arrived, there was some sort of hubbub in the parking lot, with police cars and cops all over the place.  Our esteemed principal, who tagged along for the trip, went to investigate.  He returned to inform us that there were multiple bomb threats at the school and was told that all events were cancelled and we had to leave immediately.  So, another four hour trip back home(which seemed a lot longer that the first trip).

Well, we found out the next day that our idiot of a principal misunderstood and that the competition was merely delayed--not cancelled.  He was actually told that we had to move our bus to another campus parking lot and not leave all together.  Our idiot principal made it up to us by giving us a pizza party.  Yeah--that made us very happy.

DR George - Yes, that's the same Maureen Moore who understudied Bernadette Peters in the Gypsy.  -She's also been Bernadette's stand-by for other shows including back to Song And Dance.  I was fortunate to see her in Sunset Blvd. - she was Elaine Paige's stand-by, and she was amazing as always.  A truly great actress.

Yes, it was George Lee Andrews (the original Frid on Broadway) as Frederick.

And speaking of George Lee Andrews, there was a nice article in the Monday's Washington Post about him and his "employment" in the soon to be record-breaking run of Phantom of the Opera on Broadway.  *Mary Leigh Stahl and Richard Warren Pugh have also been with the show since the beginning of it's Broadway run.
