Welcome to DR JOSH MITCHELL. Do you like old movies?

I do, indeed, but I've got a lot of catching up to do!  The last "old" movie I watched was PICKUP ON SOUTH STREET, a couple of months ago.  Loved it, and Harline's score sizzles.

Oh man, that scene blew me away!  No pun intended.  Ok, I guess it was.  What a shocker.

In addition to the later photos that DR GEORGE has posted, here is a photo of Vivian during the late 1930's when she was appearing regularly in stock and on Broadway.  This is the way she always pictured herself, so you can imagine her distress at becoming famous as "Ethel Mertz."

Lovely!  Thank you.

It is on TCM tomorrow.  I just set it to record.  I'm pretty sure this will be the first time watching for me.

Well, I'm outta here.  My mom said that a store has poster frames on sale for $10 each.  I want to get a few and start hanging up some of the posters that I have...including the new Finian's Rainbow show poster that I got!

Until later!

It was a beautiful sunny day here today.  People were laughing at the idea that someone else was getting buried in snow and we weren't.  I know it's bad, but it's really lightened our spirits around here

From BK's notes

I’m very happy – it’s an actor who I worked with long ago when he was fourteen. He’d just come off doing the musical Big on Broadway, playing young Josh. I had him do a duet with a young lady I used to work with and he did a great job.

The song was At The Same Time from Freaky Friday.

I began my evening of viewing with FOREIGN LAND, the student film that Götz Spielmann won his first award for as a director. A simple story of a kid and a farmhand working on a mountainside farm. Didn't have an ending, sort of like he ran out of film. Still that finished my work on this Criterion disc.

We are in Ashland, Oregon just over the California border.  The Mexican food isn't very good, at least not when one grew up in L.A.

Boy, am I surprised! The office has decided to close tomorrow. It hasn't even started snowing but they've decided to close. I just got a call at home from Human Resources. They think they will be open on Thursday but tomorrow is a freed day! I wonder if the Cleveland and DC offices have been closed anyway, especially the DC office.

Part of me now hopes the storm is a dud just to have a free day in New York.

Speaking of free days, it looks like I may be getting ten additional free days in the next year - All without pay!

I have  been enjoying these unpaid free days since July...one each month  >:(

They've been doing them in Iowa too.

Next, I watched THE LIST OF ADRIAN MESSENGER. I've always enjoyed the movie even though it isn't much of a mystery since Kirk Douglas' face simply defies elaborate make-up. And although that is Burt Lancaster taking off the make-up in the end, that was NOT him in the actual film. Looks like a different actor entirely.

Also, Paul Frees got a HUGE workout in this movie dubbing voices for some of the stars and the French voices for some of the lines for both French actors in the movie. His voice is just unmistakable.

Guess who:

I'm looking forward to this. I know someone who has made a (very small) investment in the show and I also know someone, peripherally, on the tech side of the show. I think Miss Harper looks great as Tallulah.

Miss Harper was also in the chorus of Wildcat with Miss Ball.

Funny, I thought that was Miss Ball!

Or Debra Messing!
