Morning all.
That is all.

We have some cleaning to do in preparation for our Nottingham guests.
I will then listen to Radio Wales at 5pm and at 7pm we will head over the the Miss Sobriety Pageant.

I'm a screenwriter again.
;D
I haven't written in the screenplay format for 3-4 years. Just books and plays.
A couple of months ago, a fellow who'd read one of my books called me "out of the blue," and now he has hired me (and paid a nice advance) to write a screenplay based on his original concept.
I can't talk about the subject matter, except to say that the script will be an action-thriller about a very disturbing topical subject.
Now, where did I put my Final Draft file...?
::)

Congrats to DR DRUXY.
Feel better vibes to DR CILLA LIZ.
Hair vibes for DR SAM.

Work day.....again.....
I like pizza of most every kind, but most of them seem pretty ordinary to me.
I am glad you enjoyed Plague of the Zombies, DR MBARNUM.....yes the gals were very good - and of course we got to see Alex Davion (Ted Casablance himself from Valley of the Dolls) in a small role.
-
But the final explanation, The Squire was going through all of the making zombies bit to get people to work in his tin mine.....wouldn't it have been easier to just hire people from the village?
-
Off to work. Oh well.
-
I like pizza although don't eat it out very often. My favorite kind is bacon (not ham) and pineapple.

Good morning, all! I slept late and I plan to have a very non-eventful day.
My last dream was something to do with real estate; I was buying a house, but I have no idea why, and I suspect it was the house where I grew up.
I have one major errand this morning and that's a bank deposit. I want to spend the remainder of the day watching DVDs.
BK, good luck with the storage space today!

Traveling to New Haven for the day.

Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And who knew that sitting down watching a 4-1/2 hour opera could be so tiring? ;)
-
Saturday morning greetings! It's a bee-yoo-tee-ful day here in SW Ohio - perfect for a walk around the neighborhood. I'll putter around the house, too, before the Michigan-Michigan State kick-off at 3:30 - Go, Blue!
-
And I have a bit more sitting today too. No opera today, but a couple of Chef's talks at the New York City Wine & Food Festival. And today there will be samples! :)
-
As for pizza...
I still remember my first John's Pizzeria pizza - from the location down on Bleecker. That was very good.
Then there was my first Grimaldi's...
The my first one at Keste...
Then at Co. ...
Then... Etc., etc., etc...

One fun factoid I learned from last night's "Star Studded Chefs" Times Talk:

Thanks, DR ArnoldMBrockman.
DR JMK, we were warned by the media that fall colors here would be disappointing because it had been so dry during the summer. We're not disappointed.

Hello, everyone.
Ginny's photos make me long for the seasons. I've always loved fall.

I had trouble falling asleep last night and didn't get a lot of sleep. I'm also sneezing and coughing, so I, too, would like a quiet day. I have a few things to take care of, but that is all.

Thanks, DR ArnoldMBrockman.

SNOBS (Society of Native Oregon Born) wax philosophical about the beautiful "fall color" of the Northwest. I rejoin, "Yes, fall color--singular. Ugly yellow." ;)

TOD:
I'm not a big pizza fan. The only pizza that comes to mind was from GENEROUS GEORGE'S in Alexandria, VA. I know DR Jose knows this place--or, knew it. Sadly, it succumbed to the recession about a year or so ago. That in itself is amazing. It was always packed when I went there.

DR JMK - I am a card-carrying S.N.O.B.

My mom loves pizza and used to make it all the time when we were kids. I thought it looked disgusting and would never eat it. But one day, @ 3rd grade, I was at a friend's house and we were both really hungry. She found some pizza in the fridge so we each had a slice. Even cold, I liked it. So I've been eating pizza ever since.
My favorite pizza place, decor-wise: John's Pizzaria in Times Square.
Character-wise: Totonno's at Coney Island
Tastiest (if you eat it there) Antico-Pizza Napoletana in Atlanta. http://www.anticopizza.it/kitchen.html
Everybody sits at a big table and they bring you a pizza on a big square metal pan. No frills, just tasty pizza.

Pride Festival is going on this weekend; I hope to go to the parade tomorrow!
Now I have to relocate more solider bugs. Argh...

Apparently summer wasn't quite finished with LA yet and is back with a vengeance - high 90s today - disgusting.
-
Spent close to two and a half hours in storage facility - moving boxes, and most interestingly going through boxes I haven't been able to get to in nine years. That was fascinating and I found so many interesting things - including the reel-to-reel tapes that I couldn't find when prepping the CD for the new book - that's the most infuriating thing of all - all these great rare tracks just sitting there - perhaps I'll do a volume two. Also found several non-fiction books that I have since re-purchased because I could not find them - now we know why. I threw out a TON of papers and old magazines - just didn't see the need for any of it. That includes some files from my office - I kind of glanced at them - old contracts, publicity stuff, notes - all trashed. Thankfully, one file I happened to go through was really important and I pulled that - it had incredible stuff in it, including a cassette of all my songs that I'd written for that musical Yearbook - so now I have Three Friends to listen to in its entirety (rather than the abbreviated clip on You Tube). We still have about seven boxes to go through - the new space is so much bigger and now everything is where we can get to it easily. I also found some of the charts we couldn't find that would have made life easier for the past two Gardenia shows.
-
Then I went to the Hollywood Show, which, as has been the case, was, for me at least, a disaster. Ineptly laid out, and the new "improvement" will shock you - no name plates for anyone. Unless the celeb had brought a sign with their name you wouldn't know who half these people are. Only the "reunions" of shows with multiple people there had banners. So stupid. I arrived at noon and I will tell you that half the celebs (who'd been there only since ten) were already closed up and having a nice lunch. Ninety minutes later even more were gone and more than half the room was bereft of celebs. If that's not stupid I don't know what is and it NEVER happened when Ray Courts was doing the show. I saw a couple of people I know, but it was so dreary I just left.
-
I realize that we're apparently still in the dog days of summer in LA, but if this dog days of haineshisway.com continues as we approach our tenth anniversary I will not be happy. I have no idea what's going on this past week, but I'd say we'd best get some postin' goin' on and sooner than later. Forty-four posts at two o'clock my time is not making me happy.

I've got a storage box filled with unwanted CDs to go to Miami University Library - yep, another shipment coming up - and I've lazed around doing little more. I think tomorrow I will pull books.
BK, congrats on the new space and your finding things.
My favorite Chinese place, the Silk Road Palace, has been closed all week. It's most unseemly. I do hope it hasn't been discovered that they're serving vermin in place of chicken, beef or pork! I alsp hope there's been no tragedy. No one seems to know anything.

Love the new cd. Sadismo. Not at all what I expected. Should have remembered to not judge by it's cover. Love the new cd. ;D
Of course then I had to listen to Twisted Nerve/The Bride Wore Black, & The Brain from Planet X. ;D

Found my Pee Wee Herman Big Top movie. Too many movies for me to go through, have to do something soon. Like clean out all the stuff piled up in front of the cd/movie shelves. I just don't seem to have the want to tackle the chore. Do have another bag o stuff to take to the Arc Foundation, so I guess that is some progress.

DR Vixmom - the wedding isn't until Sept. 4, 2011, but Mary Linda is getting some of the detail work done early.

Well back to life.

Richard and I just returned from a walk around the neighborhood and this is what we saw:
Wow! That is beautiful!

I miss summer.
It was so cold here today.
-
I didn't feel like I had enough energy to bike today. So I didn't. Sort of discouraging, since 2 days this week already were complete rain outs.
-
I did go outside with my nieces for about 30 minutes. But I had a tshirt, a long sleeve shirt and a jacket and I was still cold.
My little niece who is 16 months still does not talk. She just says a couple of words (mama and no mostly). But she is stubborn. And she knows exactly what she wants. And some how even without words she can communite. I joke to my mom that she is the most communicative mute I know.
Well she was begging to go outside. Her hint was she got her jacket, her shoes and my shoes. And then jumped up and down by the gate until I opened it for her. :)
-
I also had pizza for dinner. Although just the frozen box kind. It was the only thing that I had that I could think of that seemed the least bit tempting.
-
After Michigan's disgusting performance against MSU, we're now watching the local rivalry game between Miami and the University of Cincinnati. DN/goddaughter Lauren is on the sidelines for Miami, but Rob and I are cheering for UC. The game's on a cable station that we don't get, but Rob's streaming it from his computer to our TV - very cool.

Meet the newest member of my family.....Little Ricky!!
-
Haven't had official introductions with the girls yet. They smelled him in his box when he came in, Callie seems interested, Boo is mad.
-
Ok, Callie saw Ricky, she hissed, he hissed, she growled, he growled. I decided that was enough for now and shut the door. The girls are pissed. I did realize that I had the scent of about 10 cats on me from all the looking I did today, so I changed clothes. they quit hissing at me but aren't pleased. It will take time but will be fine
-
Back from my lunch meeting at Hugo's with The Singer. We came up with some more fun ideas today.
-
So, we're still barely on page three, eh? And it's already eight-thirty on the other coast. If we achieve a new all-time low this day, I'm afraid I shan't be happy.
-
Well, I've been cat hunting all day...after mosaic class that is
-
I had a really rough night last night. I woke up and needed my inhaler. Luckily I knew where it was. It will be by the bed tonight
-
It's interesting watching the girls' reaction to the new cat. They are taking turns sitting in the box he came in. At least they will get used to his scent a little that way. He's got their scent all over the room he's in
-
Last I checked he was stretched out on the bed purring. He didn't hide at all. I decided not to do to much introducing today. If the girls are curious I may do another short little intro, but I figured it's better for him to be settled in after a very stressful couple days. He just got to the shelter yesterday, so I imagine he's been pretty scared for the past two days
-
I'm really hoping I can get him into the vet to the vet on Monday. He's had his shots.

Holy Guacamole!
Page three?

I have a feeling there is going to be kitty drama here for awhile

I'm working on it.....

We gave up on the UC/Miami game after UC scored 4 touchdowns in the first quarter. At the half, it's 45-3, so Richard's watching NCIS reruns on USA and I'm going to putter in my study.

I am having a piece of pumpkin pie for dinner.
Actually it is a rather large pice of pie.

It was the last piece in the pan. And I didn't feel like dirtying a knife. So, I just slipped it onto my plate.
-
Oh, of course, I added whipped cream.

Congratulations Cilla on the new member of the family.
Thanks! I'm not looking forward to the introduction phase. But I think in the long run it will be good. He's very affectionate and playful. The girls will love him once they get used to the idea

Time to take an allergy pill....where is everyone?

I went out to breakfast this morning. I won't say what I ordered.
-
Then I ran some errands.
-
When I got home, I turned on college football, poured myself some juice, climbed into my recliner -- and promptly fell asleep.
-
I wouod be annoyed with myself for wasting a Saturday afternoon, but this is another furlough weekend; so I still have two days of my weekend left.
-
My fellow state employees are really getting into this furlough routine. About two thirds of the staff on my floor were gone on Friday.
-
Pumpkin pie is actually a very good dinner entree.
-
It would be better if I had baked the pumpkin pie myself, but this came from Safeway.
-
I saw the pies on display the other night, and I just couldn't resist.
-
Part of my napping today was as a result of the very rainy Saturday we are having in Tacoma.
-
Finished sending tracks and blurb to the designer so we're all ready to announce the new title here at midnight and elsewhere first thing Monday morning. I have not stopped working since nine this morning, save for the little ninety minute foray to The Hollywood Show.
-
I woke up to the sound of the foghorn. When I looked out the dining room window, I saw that Vashon Island and Puget Sound had been swallowed up by the fog and the rain.
-
Little Ricky is so cute, Cillaliz. I hope the girls get used to him quickly. Remember how long it took Callie to accept Boo? And that she eventually did accept her and they are buddies now?
-
Did you see Shirley Kinght?
-
I went back to the river today and assisted as the butterfly scientist taught some kids about monarchs.
-
I would love to attend one of those Hollywood Shows or a Ray Courts show. Since I had never been to one before, I wouldn't realize how bad they had become.
-
I am sure that I would end up spending far more money than I should.
-
How are your babies doing Laura? Or is it just one foster cat at the moment?
-
Guess what my DH wanted to have for dinner? And I didn't even mention the T.O.D.!
We went to Johnny's, a hole in the wall place with good pies. It took a very long time though because they were stacked up with orders for people having football parties.

Yes I know. I've never really been able to tell if Callie or Boo is the alpha. I've always thought it was Callie and now I'm sure. She was the one who did the initial investigating upstairs. She's seen Ricky, they've hissed and growled. It's a good enough start for tonight

I am kind of watching the baseball playoffs on TV. Unfortunately the Yankees are already kicking butt, so I may just go to bed and read.

A hydrangea is a plant isn't it, Edi?
A shrub, to be exact! These are lacecaps, very pretty, but these were submerged during the flood and once a branch lays down, it roots quickly. I was so busy with the baseball film that I never got around to getting them back in place and now they're immense.

My God! Cilla has created a monster!

I'm making dinner plans with my cousins for when I'm in Chicago. Bryan said to let them knew that he and his wife don't like Chicago style food, including pizza. ;D To my surprise that also includes German food, pubs and fried meats, not that Bryan eats any meat to begin with. We have a lot of hydrangeas, it's a very southern, old-fashioned shrub. They are sort of like the canary in the coal mine. They are the first to let you know when your garden is getting too dry. They enjoyed the flood and were at their most beautiful this year!

We have two episodes of LEGEND OF THE SEEKER to watch tonight so we can mail back the disk to NetFlix. After that we will probably watch one or two episodes of MAN V FOOD. Last night we watched him tackle a giant pizza. This was unusual in that he needed a partner to split the pizza with. He might have finished his half but the partner had to go outside and barf which naturally was an immediate disqualification. I don't think Adam was sorry either.
Cilla you wondered why he doesn't weigh more. I think he is active enough to burn off calories.

I would love to get a second cat, but the thought of cleaing out the cat box twice as often keeps me from obtaining a little buddy for Freddy.

I am watching a very obscure Japanese crime film titled THE MERCILESS TRAP (1961).
It stars Makato Sato, Kumi Mizuno and all the other Toho studio regulars. The version I am watching is dubbed.
It was evidently released to American television at some point, but I surely never came across it....in fact never even heard of it until Sinister Cinema released it last week onto DVD.

When we introduce a new kitty, we keep them in a separate room but trade toys, etc. so they get used to the scent. It took a few days but everyone got over it quickly. There's one cat we ended up with and she doesn't like any of the other cats, but that's just the way she is.
That's what I'm doing. Ricky is ready to bolt out of the room and go all over the house, funny cat. Callie is keeping guard outside his door mose of the time and Boo is...well she's just not happy. We're right on track
-
After THE MERCILESS TRAP I may watch either MIGHTY URSUS (1961) or THE SHE DEVIL (1957).
It is nice to have choices. And it is nice to FINALLY have both of these two films on DVD.
-
I just cut Ricky's claws. He has the biggest paws I've ever seen....good grief...he's going to be a big cat
-
I would love to get a second cat, but the thought of cleaing out the cat box twice as often keeps me from obtaining a little buddy for Freddy.
You don't have to clean it out twice as often. You just have to scoop out twice the amount. Get a buddy for Freddy! He's probably lonely without Bosco!

Wow---that's amazing that he's already letting you cut his claws! Around here, that's a two person job!

Well, folks, my 5:30am wake-up call will be here before I know it - 'night!

...and what the flower looks like, close-up:

The lacecap is on the right, and on the left are grandifloras, their best year yet, thanks to the flood!

Beautiful flower, Edisaurus.

And what was on the lacecap today, for DR Laura:

I hope that didn't put us into cinemascope!
-
Thank you, Laura! I wish I could have gotten a better picture of the butterfly. I was thinking: "What would Laura do"?
-
Meet the newest member of my family.....Little Ricky!!
Welcome Little Ricky!
Thanks MBarnum. I say go ahead and get a friend for Freddy. If you want an easier introduction, get a kitten. They aren't a threat and are often accepted easier than an older cat. Edi's right, it isn't more often just more

He's really a mellow affectionate guy. I think it helps that he just got to the shelter yesterday. I think he had a lot of love and wasn't there long enough to get too traumatized

Thanks Vixmom!

Great Photos Edi!!
-
I took a real Claritin instead of the store brand I've been taking. I think it's working better
-
BK, one word: Pallets! The storage facility should provide pallets to stack your boxes on so that if any water does get in, your stuff won't be on the floor.
I hope in throwing stuff away you were very careful not to throw out anything that might have had your social security number or other vitally personal info on it. In the olden days before identity theft, banks and contracts and other official documents were rather cavalier about posting one's ss # everywhere. Docs like those should be shredded.
My siblings and I have been going through documents of my parents and you would be amazed how often sensitive information turns up.
PIZZA: The more meat and cheese the better.
-
Beautiful butterfly, Edisaurus!
-
lace caps! So that's what those flowers are called very nice
-
Yes, they don't have a big ball of petals, so the center looks like a lacy cap...very delicate!
-
My yard is ablaze with sunflowers.
-
This little guy is SOOO playful. I'm so glad I brought him home. He's having a ball with toys that have been long abandoned by the other two. I'm getting a kick out of it
-
But OY! I don't know what they fed him at the shelter, but he has totally stunk up this room. I must remedy that before I go to bed.
-
THE ELEVATOR - Does it give the audience a lift? Or just the shaft?
-
Thanks to all who rescued this posting day from the doldrums. I found something so interesting - when I attended the second reading of Wicked, and its first time in front of people, Stephen Schwartz asked me to write my thoughts. I found what I wrote him. After he read them, he called and said that he didn't disagree with any of them. As I read them, I was pretty amazed to see that everything I talked about was adjusted or changed or fixed. Fascinating.
-
I bought a bunch of supplies today to make more mosaics....but I got sidetracked when the restore was closed...it's right next to the Humane Society
-
Aww, poor Little Ricky. I hope his tummy feels better soon.
In my experience, kittens always react to a change in their food. Hopefully he will get used to the new food quickly.
-
Back from seeing the new Adam Bock (best known, I think, for THE RECEPTIONIST) musical at Yale Rep, WE HAVE ALWAYS LIVED IN THE CASTLE. (Bill Parry was in it, so i got to have a snack with him afterwards.) A thrilling show, I thought, one gasp-inducing surprise after another - I'm very glad I didn't read the source material, as I think knowing from the start who ultimately done it makes a difference for some people.
-
Yes, lots of changes for little Ricky...hope he'll adjust soon! The other kitties might like him better if he's not so smelly, too! ;)

LOL, Oh he's happy as a lark, running around playing toys pouncing on my hand. What a great cat. I'm amazed at how fast he's adjusted to being here. I think he'll be fine...now I just need to mellow the girls out.
-
I didn't cut much off his claws earlier. I need to do more tomorrow, he just scratched me really good, he was just playing pounce on the hand, so it wasn't mean or anything
-
I don't have a good picture of the now-green pavillion but you can see some of it over the shoulder of my DH. Here he is with my little French boy, a few days ago.

Nice to see the little French boy, Greg and the green pavillion

The Vixter and a dozen or so of her friends went into NYC today to the NY ComicCon and AnimaeCom
I must admit to having been somewhat nervous at ther bunch of them hending inti Manhattan by train sans adult chaperones but they are all home now safe and sound and happy as larks ...

::)
Great news and good luck, Druxy!

My favorite Chinese place, the Silk Road Palace, has been closed all week. It's most unseemly. I do hope it hasn't been discovered that they're serving vermin in place of chicken, beef or pork! I alsp hope there's been no tragedy. No one seems to know anything.
DR elmore - According to some of the food blogs, as well as Yelp! and Chowhound, Silk Road Palace has closed. Even the phone has been disconnected. Sorry. -I guess they gave out too much free wine.
-
Congrats, DR Druxy!!!
-
There is loud talking outside the home environment. Rowdy people. I've been fighting something all week - mostly, I think, due to not getting enough sleep. I'm tempted to go to Jerry's and bring back some chicken soup. Had some yesterday and it always helps. I don't have any NyQuil - if I did I'd take it just to get a good night's sleep. I've been sucking on Ricola's. I'm still full from my small Caesar salad and my pasta papa, which was huge today.
-
And I never had time to jog. The reaction to Sadismo is really good - people love it. Hoping the Exotica collectors will discover it.
-
And speaking of food...
My day started off at The New York Times Building for the Times Talk "Iron Chef America: Behind the Scenes". The three Iron Chefs in attendance were Bobby Flay, Jose Garces and Masaharu Morimoto, and Kim Severson was the moderator. It was another great panel, and there were lots of laughs amid some of the not-so-shocking behind the scenes revelations.
They broadcast the Talk live, but it should be on the Times Talks (http://nytimes.whsites.net/timestalks/) website soon too.
-
Then, since it was such a gorgeous day here in New York City, I walked from to 41st Street down to 14th Street for my next New York City Wine & Food Festival (http://www.nycwineandfoodfestival.com/2010/) event...
-
Love the tree pictures, Ginny!
-
I didn't feel like I had enough energy to bike today. So I didn't. Sort of discouraging, since 2 days this week already were complete rain outs.
It's been raining off and on today, but now it's on...and has been for quite a while.
I like the rain. :)

Trisha Yearwood's Cooking Demo (http://www.nycwineandfoodfestival.com/2010/personality_detail.php?id=54) ended up consisting of her making a 6-Layer Carrot Cake while she answered questions from the audience. It turned out to be a more entertaining session than I expected. It was great hearing about how she truly tries to balance the demands of her career with her family life. Alas, there were no samples of the 6-Layer Carrot Cake given out due to legal issues (food allergies, etc.), but she did tell us that her husband, fellow country star, Garth Brooks, likes to put tortellini in everything. Including breakfast. ;)

Hi, Little Ricky!! :)
-
Meet the newest member of my family.....Little Ricky!!
Cilla, congrats on the new addition!
-
and I , who have been averaging 5 hours sleeep and 16 hours work everyday this week) have been spending this glorious, sunny, warm fall day ....sleeping
what a waste of a day off
Good for you, Vixmom! :D
-
After the cooking demo, I just ended up walking around the Meatpacking District taking advantage of some of the free events and activities and samples(!) at the New York City Wine & Food Festvial (http://www.nycwineandfoodfestival.com/2010/).
First up, was the Cooking Channel Truck which was giving out free samples of ice cream from Max & Mina's: Chocolate-Covered Challah and Balsamic Glazed Strawberry.

-
And then I somehow ended up hanging out with Guy Fieri for a few minutes as a group of us tried to help a guy who had passed out cold from too much beer in the Biergarten on the sidewalk in front of The Standard Hotel. After that whole situation more or less resolved itself, well...

DR vixmom - Better to catch up on your sleep and get some much needed rest, than to run yourself ragged.

Is that the Diners guy?
-
Jane Lynch is hosting SNL. Yay!
YAY!!
-And it was a pretty good episode too!
-And she sang with NO Auto-Tune!
-
Is that the Diners guy?
Yep! The One and Only. (Thank god.)
-
And since I have to be back down in Times Square in about 10 hours, I guess I should get some sleep myself now.
Goodnight.
-
And PAGE NINE to boot!
-
Jane Lynch is hosting SNL. Yay!
I'll be watching!

I've seen his show.

Did that guy just lynch Monkey!

Topic of the Day: traditional thin crust (there are some "thin" crusts that just aren't right), pepperoni, pineapple, cashews (yes, cashews!) and extra sauce. ;D There's a local pizza place called Dirty Dave's Gay 90s Pizza Parlour (http://www.dirtydavespizza.com/) that has cashews as a specialty item and they're so good. Another local place, Brewery City Pizza (http://www.brewerycity.com/), has a new kind of pizza called the fusion flats (http://www.brewerycity.com/bcpinside/fusion.html). I like those a lot, too.

Today was a day. I had nothing planned, except to watch TV. I watched this past week's episodes of How I Me Your Mother, Mike & Molly, The Big Bang Theory, and $#*! My Dad Says. I was halfway through Outsourced when my mom called, asking if I would drive her up to Seattle to pick up her friend Catherine from the hospital. Catherine got a kidney transplant last a couple of weeks ago, came home last week and had to go up for more overnight tests this week. So, I said sure. Evidently, kidney disease runs in Catherine's family. She lost a sister and at least one parent due to a genetic predisposition kidney disease. She's been on dialysis for a couple of years, but now everything looks real good for her.
