Sorry DR elmore, your flu shot won't protect you from the swine flu.

I had a swine flu shot in 1976 (courtesy of the U.S. Navy before the vaccine was withdrawn).  If I have any associated antibodies still in my systeml, will any of them help me?

Back from a rehearsal - better today, but still a ways to go.  I was starving so I got a Subway foot-long Eyetalian sandwich and just gobbled the whole thing up.

I was curious:

"In early 1976, the CDC detected the circulation of a flu virus, known as swine flu, which was similar to the Spanish flu virus that killed many people in 1918. The government, out of fear of a devastating flu epidemic like the one in 1918, began a mass swine flu vaccination campaign. However, in December of 1976 the campaign was stopped because of reports of Guillain-Barré syndrome or GBS (a rare disorder that causes weakness and oftentimes temporary paralysis, usually in the arms, legs or face) in some people who received the swine flu vaccine (Schonberger et al. 1979). The swine flu vaccination campaign did not continue and the swine flu vaccine is no longer used. A study that looked at the 1992-1993 and 1993-1994 flu vaccines found a possible very slight increase in the risk of GBS (Lasky et al. 1998). However, no flu vaccine has been associated with a similar increased risk of GBS as the swine flu vaccine."

I wore shorts and a short sleeved shirt for lunch out today - summer clothes in April. There ought to be a law!

I've been wearing shorts to work all month. . .both jobs.  :D

I'm at the laundromat and the guy next to me is wearing a skirt. Looks good on him.

RE: the TOD.

I know the show that first got me crazy about musicals. That was the tour of Kiss Of the Spiderwoman with chita Rivera. I know i had seen other shows before that. But seeing Chita Rivera on stage mesmerized me.

On Broadway one that i will never forget was the OBC of RENT.

For french musicals i was blown away by NOTRE DAME DE PARIS. I saw that a few times here.

I think I will go watch DWTS now. I would probably watch Gossip Girl. But i don't get the CW. ANd the Canadian station that shows it does it air in Quebec. So i have the option of watching it online. Or waiting till saturday and watching it on MuchMusic (which i will do).

Well, I'm now leaving work to go to my parents' house and hook up their new digital converter boxes.  They have three and all three need to be hooked up at the same time so that they can all be activated at the same time.  Okay.  It shouldn't take too long, so I should be home in time to watch the NBC line-up.  I'm recording it, just in case. :)

Until later!

Btw, DR Cillaliz what did you think of the ending of THE APPRENTICE last night.

I thought it was the funniest thing i've ever seen. I can't wait for next week.

I loved it.  I will definitely tune in next week.   I will say one thing...I do not want Annie to win.

I thought about posting the clip of the cormorants, but they kept disappearing underwater. Hard to film something that keeps moving.

Last evening, DR Jennifer said:

Quote
And yes DR Jrand, it was a good TAR tonight! I"ll be curious to see who people are rooting for now. There are some interesting dynamics and i could see some people disliking certain teams now.

Well, I guess I'm still pulling for Margie and Luke, but after last week's bitch-fest, it's more like they are my least disliked of the remaining teams.  I don't like Kisha and Jen for their part of the bitch-fest and because I don't think they are Final Three worthy.  I don't like Tammy and Victor because I find them smug and condescending.  While I sort of like Jaime and Cara, I am really turned off by Jamie's ugly American attitude towards the people of the countries in which she is a guest.  And while I had been a huge fan of Margie and Luke, I am not so much now since seeing how immature Luke is and how much of an enabler his mother is.  At this point, I could stop watching and it would be no big loss for me.

I feel this way, but a little less strongly than you DR Dan.  If you want REAL entertainment, you should be watching Celebrity Apprentice...no wait, that's temper tantrums, acting immature and being smug and condescending....But it's a lot funnier....

Since it's a slow news night, here's the latest version of "I'm Still Queer," which I believe was "inspired' by Jose saying he had a burger and beer, or some such thing.

(draft parody of "I'm Still Here")

Football and hockey
I've played them all and my dear
I'm still queer
Rooted for Rocky
Clutching a burger and beer
But I'm queer

I've let my eyebrows
Grow unchecked
Snoozed when the highbrows
Spoke of Brecht
Missed Lincoln Center’s “King Lear”
But I'm queer

Loved “Oh Calcutta”
I thought “Applause” was too long
But I’m queer
Dissed Ethel Shut-tah
I always said her name wrong
But I’m queer

I was a youthful loudmouthed punk
I got too truthful, called shows junk
When I said Fosse’s “Chicago” stunk friends would sneer
Found Chita much too sincere
But I’m queer

Won’t talk about Audrey or Katharine Hepburn
Please, no one ask me again
When you don’t love Audrey or Katharine Hepburn
No one believes you love men

Skipped Loudon’s “Sweeney”
Heard that score too many times
But I’m queer
Alessandrini
That guy used too many rhymes
But I’m queer

I thought the “Phantom” songs were great
Started to chant 'em on a date
He got irate that I can't relate to “Steel Pier”
I passed on Claudia Shear
But I’m queer

Loved Tarantino
His stage debut gave me thrills
But I’m queer
I need a Beano
When the kids praise Peter Mills
But I’m queer

When “Mamma Mia” gave me cramps
My friend Maria called me Gramps
Got shook up clear from my ear to my rear
I’d rather hear some Enya
But I’m queer

I cheered at both Andrew and Michael’s “Wild Parties”
How could they both have been panned?
When you loved both Andrew and Michael’s “Wild Parties”
Boyfriends just don’t understand

Dramas to rock shows
I must keep up ‘cause my dear
I’m still queer
Praise shows or knock shows
Sometimes I have to make clear
I’m still queer

Some folk prefer a gay cliche
I can’t defer, that’s not my way
I couldn’t bear “Over Here”
And I’m quee-eer

Lord knows, I loved “Martin Guerre”
And I’m queer
Look who’s queer
I’m still queer

Laura - Is "a clip of ducks" similar to "a flock of seagulls" or "a gaggle of geese?"
