Well, you've read the notes, the notes stumbled-through, and now it is time for you to post until the stumbling cows come home.

Goodnight.

No plans, just relaxing.

We watched Butterfield 8 last night. What a potboiler? But I saw that the Library has a copy so I put it on reserve and will read it when it comes in. Apparently, the movie bears only a slight resemblance to the novel.

Good morning, all! I need to move the laundry to the dryers and, when it's finished, I will wait for the delivery men to deliver a new piece of furniture.

Beyond that, I have little to do today. Last night, I dropped a box of staples and I need to clean that up before I puncture my foot. I also need to tidy my work table, since it's time to begin making changes to the Appalachian Christmas show and thinking about how those changes will work.

And the word of the day is: ROLLICK!

And The Song Of The Day Is:  SKYLARK

Speaking of SKYLARK:    The Parody of the Al Pacino MERCHANT OF VENICE,

SHYLOCK  to tune of SKYLARK  was actually one of the very very few times I actually got a note from someone who was involved with a show (no, not Mr. Pacino himself!) asking if I wouldn't mind making a change in a parody - of course I made the change, because they are the most delightful people.  (I didn't really understand why the thing that bothered anyone was a problem, but it was so easy to change, I just lost the views up to that point, but they had no issue at all with all the parody use of the photos I'd used, and were always so nice.)

Having sorted out what DVDs and books I wanted to get rid of I ended up with three massive bundles packed in bin liners. After parking the car I had a 10 minute walk to the charity shop by which time I was almost collapsing from the weight of the items.  Then I had to go for a coffee to recover.

TOD:

I can't pick just one of anything from the 1970s. I've got a seven-CD set of 70s favorites and I love most every silly and wonderful song and then wonder where the rest of the good stuff is.

So, here's just a few:

Neil Diamond, "Tap Root Manuscript"

The Guess Who, "Live at the Parmount"

The Temptations, "Papa Was a Rolling Stone"

Almost anything by Barry White, Elton John and Carole King.

No plans, just relaxing.

We watched Butterfield 8 last night. What a potboiler? But I saw that the Library has a copy so I put it on reserve and will read it when it comes in. Apparently, the movie bears only a slight resemblance to the novel.

I just got "Super 8" from the library.  I think I'll watch that today...just because.

Oh... I posted a pic of my "son" on my Facebook Wall/Timeline just in case anyone was curious. ;)

He must look younger and more like you when he is performing.

Well, I've spent 8-9 hours today listening to songs from the 1960s and 1970s.  My ears are tired.

I would highly recommend getting last season's DVDs before starting up on this season.

I went to the mall today for the first time this summer and it was completely packed. I was in shock. And for some reason I did not like it very much (all the people).  Crowds at the mall have never bothered me before. Maybe I just wasn't used to after so long!

All the good stuff on my reservations list at the library came in at one. I will watch Dexter first because there are more reservations on it, but I really want to see this four-part Anna Karenina mini-series.

I spent the last two hours watching the Region-2 BFI DVD of LA KERMESSE HEROÏQUE aka CARNIVAL IN FLANDERS, which I believe TCM is showing tomorrow night. I hadn't seen the film in over ten years and I'd forgtten a lot of it, like the gay Spanish soldier and his needlework, the rather graphic rape and pillage fantasy of the Burgermaster, and the funny, lusty sequence where the innkeeper's wife tends to the Spanish soldiers. The print is good, but the film really needs Criterion to give it new, unexpurgated subtitles in yellow so they stand out against the whites on the screen.

The film is beautiful to look at, a stunning recreation of Flanders in 1616 and it has great set pieces, like the ladies meeting the Spaniards with the key to the city and the soldiers' march away at the end. Francoise Rosay as Cornelia, the Burgermaster's wife with dreams she'll never realize, runs the show. She's not a beautiful woman but she is stunning lady and a beautiful actress, with some outrageous moments as well as some very moving ones.  And what did occur between her and the Spanish Duke? I can't believe they thought there was a musical in this film, and like THE BAKER'S WIFE, they really couldn't make it a successful musical.

If you've never seen this French farce where the ladies settle amicably a potential invasion their stupid husbands can't face, check out the times for TCM and catch it.

Just watched THE SOUND AND THE FURY, which I'd never seen, and ... WOW.

I've also never read any Faulkner, though I intend to, and I see from browsing the World Wide Web that the film is considered a travesty, a grand piece o' crap, by Faulkner devotees.  Well, it might very well be, but it's also a stunning example of a Hollywood era and style that I'm very taken with, and I was shamelessly enthralled throughout the proceedings.

But:  the score.  Alex North.  Oh my god.  That's what actually made me watch the movie, when I'd thought I was going to just check out the new disc and move on to something else.  At the first NOTE, I sat up, electrified.  Once into the main titles, there was no turning back, and every cue elevated an already compelling scene or emotional moment into something beyond thrilling.

Thanks, George.

It had been sung frtom the point of view of a specific person before, and I got an email asking that just the video (not the audio) be changed in that regard.   (I had actually sent the video to the producer's office, it's not like they happened on it by accident.)

Francoise Rosay is in THE SOUND AND THE FURY.  I don't know what else I might know her from, but that FLANDERS film sure sounds great.
