I just learned what the Snooker Room is and I feel quite informed.
Well, the weather in Dublin is cool, about 67 at the moment, but the humidity is terrible. I walked to Grafton Street for postcards and to the wonderful Hodges & Figgis book store, stopped to browse in HMV, and I was soaked to the skin with sweat by the time I got back to the club Ugh.

And the word of the day is: NATTY!
TROUSER VIBES to DR Elmore, and to anyone else who needs trouser vibes today.

LOL!
The receptionist Briona had both the needle and thread, and I am set. All is good for the nonce.
DR Elmore, sounds like a good reason to buy a new pair of trousers when you're out shopping
DR Cillaliz, we need a "before" picture of the vanity!
I am back in California, for a few days anyway. Flight home was close to unbearable, but we landed safely. Loved Munich, but probably won't go back. I'd like to see other parts of Germany, though. We had a lovely time in Salzberg on "The Sound of Music" tour, which was so much fun. We also went to Neuschwanstein, which was great - even the trek up the mountain was great. and it was quite a trek. Much sausage was eaten and much beer was consumed, as well as schnitzel with noodles - one of my favorite things.Glad you had a great trip. I did a route similar to yours when I was 15. There were five of us crammed into a Volkswagen going through northern Austria and southern Germany, including trips to Neuschwanstein (or however it's spelled). And yes, great beer and sausages and schnitzel.
I've caught up on the notes. Will try and ketchup on the posts.
TOD:
Podcasts, in general, haven't yet become part of my world. Worse, I know there's all kinds of great radio available over the internet that I haven't taken advantage of.
That being said, I absolutely want to know about anything HHW-related, and I will for sure be listening to this one today.
Very close
I was distressed to learn that the people who lived across the street from me and who had always maintained an immaculate front yard (unlike my attempts at Darwinian gardening) had lost their home to foreclosure. I didn't know them very well. They spoke Spanish and not much English. But they were always friendly and had an adorable little girl.
OK, Washingtonians, what is life like in Yakima? And has anyone seen a magazine called Good Fruit Grower? Just saw a job posted for it. Sounds wonderful. But I think I'm too stuck to want to move.

Frances Farmer's sister Edith lived in Yakima for many years - before she died - but I am not sure that that is a recommendation.
Last night, I had dinner with one of our Dublin producers, Jonathan, whose father and companion were beaten and robbed over a month ago. Jonathan's report on his dad and his father's lady friend were good. After dinner, we walked the Grafton Street area and he showed me an easy route to Walton's, where we will rehearse Tuesday-Thursday.
I'm free today until the car picks me up for tonight's chorus rehearsal. I may go shopping on Grafton Street and there's a wonderful bookstore I'd like to visit. I may also walk in St Stephen's Green for a bit. I also need to stop at a Bank of Ireland and convert some currency.
I've finished seven chapters of HOW GREEN WAS MY VALLEY. How did I ever miss reading this glorious book?
Happy to see you posting DR Elmore!!!!
I did a LOT of sleeping this weekend but I do feel better for it.
Monday morning greetings! We are up earlier than usual for a Monday because we're taking Mary Linda's old car to get the carpets and seats steam cleaned before she shows it to a potential buyer. She and Rob tried to do this on Saturday, but were told an appointment was needed. Works OK for us, because I also have to go this morning for a blood test.

Hope you're enjoying Dublin DR elmore3003. I was there about 8 years ago but the streets were in a mess then because they were laying down tram lines.

My work is done. We checked the basment. No shut off valve. Luckily I got the faucet to shut off. Now I need to call a plumber. I'll to it tomorrow

DR Jane, that looks like a stunning piece of property. Seriously.

Thank you. We like it but it is a lot of work for Keith which is why the current project. The idea is to make caring for it easier.

What took you to that part of the world? Please pardon my memory if you've already talked about this since I've been here!

Keith was working in London so I tagged along. During the days I entertained myself walking around the city & had lunch with an English cousin. Best of all, Keith had to take the train to Cambridge. While he worked I enjoyed the sights. After a few days I flew to The Isle of Man to spend the night with family and from there met Keith in Dublin for a few days of vacation. We were supposed to stay longer in Ireland and do a bit of touring but, as often happened, Keith had to return to work sooner than expected.

DR Jane, that's a fine story, thank you, but what I meant was what led you to living in Oregon? :D
I will never know. That's part of what is sad about the situation. I didn't really know that they had left. I saw a yard sale over there, but I don't need kids items. I'll take a mailing address for your 1936 SHOW BOAT. It should be ready to go by tomorrow.
DR Elmore --
Almost done with all of yours. Do you also want the 1929 film?
I discovered that a 1970s BBC adaptation of HOW GREEN WAS MY VALLEY was available as a 5-part DVD series, so I ordered that from Amazon.co.uk today. Hopefully, it will be waiting for me when I get home.

I saw that on TV about a week ago. Well made with a great cast.
That is HORRIBLE. Vibes of comfort to DR John G.'s friend Jenny.
I don't remember much from the mini-series except I was glued to the set for each episode. I enjoyed that one tremendously. Thanks for the report! I am plowing through the book. It's a really good read. I will watch the John Ford film again when I get back to NYC, but the BBC will do this book well, I think.

It's not been a day for good news. I just found out that a friend I used to work discovered her mother's body after the mother had committed suicide. Jenny had had a long history of dealing with her mother's mental condition, which could be a bit like a roller coaster, and I guess her mom reached the point where she just couldn't go on. So, please keep Jenny in your thoughts, prayers and vibes today.
Glad it went well, George.

DR George I"m glad that you noticed that NBC was re-showing the Closing Ceremonies later last night. I would have mentioned it if i had seen your post last night.
Sian Phillips will certainly be a different Mrs Morgan than Sara Allgood!
...We had all just planned to stay for about an hour and one round of drinks... But then some random(?) gentleman ended up buying all of us a round of drinks, so... We ended up staying for a little more than an hour. ::)
*All in all, it was a perfect way to end a very busy, stressful, but productive week of rehearsals and rewrites.

Hello? Random gentlemen buying drinks at "adult alternative" establishments and then we jump to the next morning deciding whether to drive to san Francisco? Were you testing to see if anybody's reading?
What's an "alternative" establishment?

Yesterday was very busy. Went to the lake and mom gave me a walnut vanity with a mirror that I used to have in my room and the lake when I was growing up and that I had at my apartment in college. Her comment was "now, nothing else in here is your's right?" I had to laugh. I was concerned about getting the vanity in the house, but I took out all the drawers and took the mirror off the back and was able to carry it upstairs myself. It made me feel like I can actually do things with my left arm again.

Right now I'm at home while the AC guy services my air conditioner. My AC guy is actually Edith's husband. Since my ac and furnace are new since I bought the hosue. He talked me into a service contract. He comes out twice a year and cleans and tunes the ac in and outside and the furnace. The best part is, should it go out in the middle of the night in the middle of the winter, they come and don't charge overtime.

I plan to live in Manhattan while I'm alive, but I'm considering settling in Yakima for my after-life. Sounds like a perfect place for it. or maybe Scranton, if Yakima doesn't work out.

Back from storage, eating, and picking up two packages - one from Harvey Schmidt. I guess for you loyal dear readers i will tell you we're releasing a box set of his albums called Music in a Texas Town - he did four volumes, which he gave as Xmas presents to friends. It's our first real box set and will have a real box - Harvey's designing all that stuff. We're also releasing his two film scores, A Texas Romance and Bad Company.

Well, the best thing I can say about Yakima (Yaki-Vegas) is that it is less than two horus away from Seattle. Seriously, it is a small city, large migrant population, basically a farming town.
I am afraid I am not familiar with tha tmagazine; and I was prety sure I had read all of the magazines dealing with the subject of fruit.

That's so cool! I found Bad Company (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0068245/) on IMDB. I haven't found much of anything on "A Texas Romance"...other than I think it's a short, animated film from 1909.
I shall now be on my way to what some people call a rehearsal.
Are we still asking questions -
Are there barbells or dumbbells in this establishment?
Oh, Jose's gone.

In other news...
Yesterday's first presentation went very well. And that was followed by a staff BBQ. Which was followed by a Q&A panel with the writers. Which was then followed by an impromptu visit to one of San Jose's "adult alternative/alternative adult" establishments. ::)

Speaking of AC (the man, not the machine), there are reports (with photos) that his boyfriend has been stepping out on him as he was snapped sucking face with another guy in Central Park.
Poor Anderson. If he was my boyfriend I would never cheat on him.
I mentioned to Brent that I had gone to the Coca-Cola World and he said that he had done a commercial for them in the early 80s'. I had gone to the room where they were screening commercials, but didn't stay for the whole presentation, so I'm not sure whether they showed that commercial. But I found it on youtube:

I don't know why they dubbed his singing voice!

I drank beer and wine on my first trip to Germany, which was back when I was 7.
Thanks. It's not an emergency. I also have an electric issue I have put off dealing with for a couple years (outlet and ceiling fan that don't work) so I've scheduled the plumber and the electrician for first thing Monday morning. I'll be getting ready for a hearing, so I can do that at home. I think the ceiling fan is fixable with a battery or fuse or something, but I have to look that up again. Otherwise I need to find something else to install and have them take it down. I like it though....My work is done. We checked the basment. No shut off valve. Luckily I got the faucet to shut off. Now I need to call a plumber. I'll to it tomorrow
VIBES IT WON'T COST MUCH & WILL BE AN EASY FIX!
Hello. I"m back from a quick trip to Atlanta. I saw Miss Cathy Rigby and Mr. Brent Barrett in Peter Pan. Let me say that Cathy Rigby is unbelievable--it's amazing how great she is in the role--and has a very pleasing singing voice. And she's she'll be 60 years old in December! Brent is really hilarious as Captain Hook and shows off his singing voice in "Captain Hook's Waltz." The entire cast is terrific.

My flight Saturday from Washington National Airport had an unscheduled stop at Washington Dulles Airport. About 20 minutes after takeoff a woman a few rows behind me started yelling for someone to help. The man next to her was having some kind of seizure or something. He was making grunting sounds and apparently had to be restrained. The flight attendant asked if there was a doctor or nurse on board and two nurses went back to help. A few minutes later a young military guy came to the back of the plane, where the incident occurred, and said he knew the man and would help. The announcement was made telling the passengers that we were landing at Dulles for a medical emergency. When we landed the medical personnel boarded and escorted the man off --he seemed to be calm by this time. We didn't take off for another 30 minutes or more and ended up in Atlanta about 2 hours later than scheduled. It was an interesting experience to say the least. I felt sorry for the man- I was wondering if he had some kind of flashback or something (he was in the military too).

I'll bet you were surpised, Kevin, when you got to Atlanta nad found out that PETER PAN was playing in town.
I don't know if I will watch MAJOR CRIMES or not. I am sorry to see THE CLOSER end, but since I was a late-comer to the show I do have several seasons to rent and watch....someday.You'll enjoy them if you start from the beginning and watch how the characters and story develops. I have to admit it's one of my favorite shows
I just saw that Helen Gurley Brown has passed away at age 90. For some reason I thought she had passed on some years ago.
That's what I thought, too. ::)
And I was shocked she was that old.

What a fun time, DR KevinH!

Speaking of AC (the man, not the machine), there are reports (with photos) that his boyfriend has been stepping out on him as he was snapped sucking face with another guy in Central Park.
Poor Anderson. If he was my boyfriend I would never cheat on him.
Am I the only one that thinks DR MBarnum could easily play the role of Anne in A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC?
Is the pay good?
I'll bet you were surpised, Kevin, when you got to Atlanta nad found out that PETER PAN was playing in town.
Yes, TCB! I was going to see the Aquarium and the tall buildings. And what are the chances? The hotel I stayed in, the Georgian Terrace, was directly across the street from the Fox Theatre, where Peter Pan was being performed!

Don't be confused by the what-not.
Today was 85 with low humidity and will be in the 50s tonight. Can't wait to sleep with the window open. Yeah!

One of the legends of local television news in Seattle, Kathi Goertzen, passed away today. She has battled couragiously against brain tumors for the last fourteen years, but each time she fought back and returned to the news desk. The last few years, she refused to hide from the TV cameras, even though the most recent tumor had distorted her once beautiful face. She was a news anchor in Seattle for thirty years. She passed away today at the age of 54.

Sad. I remember seeing stories about her bravery.
Good Evening!
Well... I guess I'm not going to San Francisco tonight. And that's OK.

How long are you going to be there?
DR MBarnum - The next time you visit NYC, I'll take you to The Phoenix. You can kiss AC while you're there.

DR TCB - I fly back to NYC on Sunday. We have one more week of "boot camp".
San Francisco is part of my "vacation loop" in September, and that's the main reason I didn't feel like I had to go this time.
Whoops, with all the talk, did we neglect to put up the link to the article and photos of Anderson Cooper's boyfriend Ben kissing the man in the park? (For some reason, i'd just assumed we had. if we have, sorry for the repeat, since after all...
i never repeat scurrilous gossip, so listen carefully the first time

More than that. And I liked it.I am back in California, for a few days anyway.
You were drinking beer at 15?
Going on 16. or is that the wrong country?
I drank beer and wine on my first trip to Germany, which was back when I was 7.
A few sips from your parent's glasses?
DR MBarnum - Although, I guess I could take you to Eastern Bloc instead. ::)

DR Jose, you've packed more all-hours fun and late-night frolic into your 20 years of single life than I had in my entire ten years.
Wait, is that what I meant to say, that didn't sound right
DR MBarnum - The next time you visit NYC, I'll take you to The Phoenix. You can kiss AC while you're there.
What?
I think he said something about Phoenix - as in the song "By the Time he gets to Phoenix he'll be rising" - it's an old song from when I knew what "alternative establishments" were used for. I don't think vending machines even existed back in the day.

DR FJL - When we headed over to "Tinker's Damn" - yes, that's the name of the name of the place - none of us had any idea what were in store for last night. In fact, we almost walked out as soon as we walked in since it was a little too low-key. But then Hayden asked if there was a drag show tonight, and when the bartender said, "Yes", well... And that's when Jimmy, the waiter, unrolled the drapes that formed the "stage". That's also when Jimmy "unrolled" his jeans. And when we told the Hostess that it was Colin's birthday, well... Oh, and there was that free round of drinks. And Joan Jett/Alicia Keys and Britney Spears/Debbie Gibson...
Also up for pre-order is a Punjabi movie I have been highly anticipating! JATT AND JULIET. The star of the film is one of my Facebook 'friends' and it has been fun seeing his excitement with this movie, his second film, which has become a huge hit.

If you are at all curious, here is the trailer. Even though there are no subtitles to this trailer I still laughed several times. And everyone is so pretty!

Maybe if my first taste of beer had been good German beer I would like it today instead of disliking it.

TCB - I see him more as a Petra or a Carl-Magnus. Really, could he really be the right type for virginal, pure Ann in NIGHT MUSIC?
Forgive me, but purity is not necessarily the first thing one would associate with the content of the various Bollywood postings and He-man photographic attachments and and what-not
Just had a very nice e-mail from Jonathan Tunick re Follies. That's great. Did he single any moment out that he was surprised by?

No bit parts for MBarnum. Featured roles. We don't want him relocating to new york and having to wind up unable to afford rent and having to camp out on someone's fire escape or something like that.
Lots of pain tonight.
G'night!

Like the old Follies in D.C. (or are you too young to remember that, Jose?)
Hey, the sounds of a Britney Spears/Debbie Gibson left me kinda scared, too.

It's actually just a gay bar that has a drag show on Sunday and Monday nights. At least I think that's what it is.
As for the the Follies in D.C... I remember seeing the ads in the Washington Post and The Blade for the club when I was in middle and high school. I also drove by it a few times, but never went it. I wuz scared.

Scary stuff with the credit card, Jose. Hope that works itself out quickly. And don't be shopping at Wal-Mart in Arkansas anymore.
It was the FOLLIES, after all.
