Well, you've read the notes, you've kept up with the notes, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're keeping up and doing the Limbo at the same time.

Oddest foods for me - eaten in Lancaster County PA.

Scrapple and Shoo Fly Pie. (not together but at the one meal).

The term Faggots is in fact not used here (Certainly not in this State - anything could happen in Queensland) in the food sense der Brucer - It is UK origin I think.

The closest we get to scrapple is "bubble and squeak" which is also not marketed - just the term here for fried up left overs. I doubt anyone under 40 uses the term these days - or would even consider using left overs in that way.

Good morning, all!  Yesterday was an interesting day with lots of good moments and one really awful one.  In the morning JoAnn and I ran erands dealing with my dad's estate: closed his post office box, checked on a bank account, went out to his vacant house and carried away items of furniture and various chochkes.  My brothers and I had a good meeting abouot the estate and then a meeting with the attorney about various things left to be done in closing down everything.  Right before the first meeting I received an email from the FAT conductor of little talent and huge ego. He was sending a whiney and rather vicious email to another, raking me over the coals with such ambiguousallegations as "heard from a friend of a friend."

After the meeting with the attorney, I needed to do some damage control, and then JoAnn and I watched AMERICAN IDOL.

Today, I shortly leave for Oxford, OH, to talk to music and theatre students and attend the first performance of their production of CANDIDE.  I shall be E&T all day.  Speaking of CANDIDE, today is the birthday of Mary Costa, the voice of Disney's sLEEPING BEAUTY, who played Cunegonde in the 1957 concert tour of the show and in the 1958 London production opposite Denis Quilley and Laurence Naismith.

DR Ginny, I'm waiting for my family to get their schedules together before I phone anyone,  I've been unsuccessful so far in achieving any schedule from anyone!

DR CILLA LIZ - that pull out thing is called a letter tray and is very useful when your desktop is FULL and you want to write something.  Ideally it is on the right side of the desk.  Mine has one on either side.

We ordered desks specifically with letter trays when I worked at the School for the Deaf, so we could put our TTY's on the letter tray.  Very convenient.

I was very sad to read of the death of film director Bob Clark (A CHRISTMAS STORY, MURDER BY DECREE, PORKYS) and his son in a traffic accident yesterday. They were not at fault. Of course, the couple who hit them lived, the driver being intoxicated. What a shame! If I can get to it, I'd like to watch MURDER BY DECREE in his memory at some point today.

I love to try odd and unusual foods!!

Eel I am very fond of. Frogs legs I tried as a kid as well as chocolate covered ants.  Beef tongue, heart, chicken gizzards (fried), tripe, chicken feet...all of which I enjoy.

Pigs feet I have tried a few times but did not totally enjoy. They were store bought however, and I would image that if I were to eat home cooked pigs feet I would like them just fine. But the store bought just has way too much vinegar.

I have yet to try brains, but hope to someday.

Amazing how theatre experience can change from one night to the next. On Tuesday I saw a wonderful show, Frost/Nixon, with Michael Sheen and Frank Langella. One of the best things I've seen in ages. Last night I saw a piece of drek called Howard Katz. It had a stage full of talented people, such as Alfred Molina and the wonderful, wonderful Elizabeth Franz and Euan Morton but they couldn't make me like this play any better. It was one of those 90 minute wonders with no intermission because they know if there was an intermission they would lose half the audience. I did not care a whit about any one of the whiney, pathetic and sad people on the stage and couldn't wait until it was over. Oh, well. You pays your money and you takes your chances.

Gina is far better than several of the people remaining.

It's horses for courses, of course, but I loved Gina's "Smile"...and it was even more beautiful last night.

Of course, we remain saddled with several lackluster men...no doubt fuelled by lustful fantasies of a multitude of estrogen-brigade -- and no doubt a few team-testosterone -- members, although what any of them see in Sanjaya I cannot fathom.

I've heard increased speculation that Sanjaya may WIN the competition.

I wonder who will cheer him in concert...or buy his CDs?

"Lost" SPOILERS:

I got so angry during last night's "Lost".....it seemed like there were more commercials than story.

Note I said "seemed" -- and it's simply that I was so engrossed in the story line that time flew.  The 5-minute commercial blocks seemed like 10-minute blocks in comparison.

Jack remains mule-headed...and Kate knows that everything about Juliet is wrong.  If Ben could set himself up to be tortured, Juliet could certainly be sent out handcuffed to Kate and subjected to Kate's mercurial temperament.

I think it might be time for someone else to assume a leadership role in the show, and I'm seriously hoping that Hurley's set-up of Sawyer wasn't just something the writers threw in there to include the "beach" survivors in the story arc.

We know now that many of the survivors have something dark in their past and that "the others" seem to have exceptionally detailed bios on all of them (and yes, they classify some of the survivors as "good people").  Last night, though, we learned that Kate was told by Locke that the others could not "forgive" her....whatever that means.  Who are they to forgive or not forgive anyone?  Especially given their own predilection toward murder....

...unless, of course, they're being set up as "avenging angels".

I've been thinking that the island might be their chance to "atone" for their pasts and to discover whatever good each might be capable of.

Now, I just can't imagine what will come next.

One more thing about "American Idol"!

In the very near future, the "results" show will expand to one hour.

Can you IMAGINE it?  What on earth will they do to fill that hour?

I'm thinking it will be more of their self-congratulatory do-gooding, or maybe they'll be demo-ing the song submissions for viewers to vote on.

At any rate...I'll be reading the message board to learn results.  Two hours of Ryan Seacrest in one week is nothing short of self-destruction.

Speaking of bubble and squeak...

Michael Buble's performance on "Idol" last night left me wishing Tony Bennett had performed.  I thought Buble was underwhelming.  I know folks think he's the second coming of Sinatra, but that isn't necessarily a good thing...especially if last night's performance was typical.

It didn't help when he made his idiotic query of Ryan Seacrest as to whether his votes for Antonella Barba were being counted each week.

And Ryan's "bearded" comeback was nauseating.

Neither, of course, can vote for someone who doesn't have a phone number listed at the end of a show.

It's so pathetic that he wasn't in the bottom three.  Every one of those three are light years better than Sanjaya.

What troubles me most is that Sanjaya may have gotten the most votes out of the middle three...which would mean he got the fourth highest number of votes.

Well, to all of the varied and sun-dried DRs who seem to watch Americon Idol ........ I just don't get it.  I made myself watch the 30 minute "recap, re-hash, public vote" show last night, and it just strikes me as incredible that so many people can fall for all of the hype of "text this message here," and "be sure to phone this number here."  The level of "non-talent" is really shown up for present-day pop music shriekers and wailers, when they are asked to sing a standard song, with a recognizable melody, which requires phrasing and beautiful sustained tone.

BUT.... equally as surprising was the incredibly bad performance by Michael Buble.  I have to wonder about the studio set-up, and if the singers can properly hear the orchestra accompaniment, etc..  I have heard Buble live, and he was a good solid "on-pitch" singer.  But last night, there were terrible intonation problems, and at one point he even sang the wrong melody note for the song.

It is, I guess, just another great example of selling the American public low level entertainment, but wrapped in a shiny, glitzy, nerve-jarring package, that makes the public believe :...oh goody, I actually get to be a part of this."

But what the hell do I know!

Not only was the driver intoxicated, he was driving without a license. :(

What troubles me most is that Sanjaya may have gotten the most votes out of the middle three...which would mean he got the fourth highest number of votes.

I looked at it the other way and was hopeful that he had the least votes of the three. I would imagine that blake had more votes than him.

I do think though that other than melinda, popularity probably changes week to week (i.e., there is probably not that much difference between say blake and jordin).

We saw that sanjaya was in the bottom 2 many weeks ago. I'm not sure if that was before the howard stern thing. But it just takes one week for him to get the lowest. I'll bet there are not that many votes between him and the bottom.

Well we can hope.

DR CILLA LIZ - one of my nephews - not one of the SMART ones - was in a group of people who were stopped by the police.

There was marijuana and a pipe in the car.  By the time the policeman wrote the report, no one had confessed to ownership of the goodies.

So everyone, even my nephew, a minor, was charged.  Now court dates have been set for them all individually.  Some of the perps have confessed to ownership of the contraband.  None of it was my nephew's, so at the hearing last week, he pleaded not guilty.

Is it imperative that he be represented by an attorney at the trial on April 23?

I think you're right, Fred.

Not to denigrate in any way (because if I had a career as an actor at the Guthrie or any other regional theatre I would be wildly happy with my life) but Howard Katz does have a "regional theatre" feeling about it (in my humble opinion) and will most likely have a life outside of New York.

Not that I'm wildly unhappy with my life now. I have a good life and I'm very happy with my unrecognized husband and my job and my life outside of my job. It just wouda been nice if the Guthrie had recognized my talent those many years ago and hired me once or twice. Your TV remote has a button that allows you to change "sources" of signals.  All you would have needed was a set of rabbit ears connected to the back of your TV...and tuning your TV for noncable channels, you'd have picked up any digital/HD signals serving your error.

A push of that button and you'd have been back to your cable feed.

And since I'm on a posting frenzy, on Monday when I mentioned my meat loaf, I forgot to mention what you do with the other three ounces of tomato paste (you put the first three in the chopped meat with the other ingredients). I spread the other three ounces on top of the meat loaf (instead of ketchup, it's kind of life tomato frosting) and then lightly cover the top with aluminum foil to prevent over cooking, removing it for the last 15 minutes so that the paste gets a little crusty and warm and bakes into the top of the meat loaf.

What an excellent idea!  And now I'm even thinking a few strips of mozzarella with that topping of paste...and possibly some fresh basil...and WOW!  I'm gonna try it!

Not that I'm wildly unhappy with my life now. I have a good life and I'm very happy with my unrecognized husband and my job and my life outside of my job. It just wouda been nice if the Guthrie had recognized my talent those many years ago and hired me once or twice. But then I may not have met Anthony and I might not have discovered this here posting board so, all in all, it has worked out.

Yes I've used one many times, just didn't know what you call it.

My mother says, "Don't you spell that L-O-A-N?"

LOST SPOILERS.

I really enjoyed last night's show. But i realized hurley was conning sawyer before the reveal. I found it interesting that juliet had the keys to the handcuffs the whole time. And that she will now be returning to camp. Also i wonder what will happen with locke (why did he go with them?)

I'm curious, every recent episode has had some big reveal at the end. I don't remember it always being this way. Has it?

For anyone who loves the show i recommend the http://www.televisionwithoutpity.com forums.  You can read the recaps. And go to the forums (general gabbery). Each week's show has their own chat.

Here is this week:

Oh, my, that sounds too good not to try.

Regarding the amount (I'm not the best at passing on recipes, I tend to forget little things like HOW MUCH GROUND BEEF!) since it's for two of us I use about a pound or a little more depending on the package. That makes enough for a couple of meals (unless we have seconds). I love green beans so I use about a cup and a half.

Yes. Just because someone says it's theirs doesn't mean that they won't get the others for possession. Possession doesn't mean ownership. There are SO many ramifications to a conviction for drug possession - you can't get student loans being a big one, that he should at least meet with a lawyer who can look at the case and give his advice.

That infommercial with the "experts" from the small business administration about getting "free money" from the U.S. government always makes me cringe. "If you don't have to pay it back it's free money!!!"

Yes, but the U.S. government is not set up as a foundation and they aren't going to give you grants to pay off your bills. Yes, you can get loans from the Small Business Administration but you do have to pay those back. They don't harp on that part quite as much.

Title: Re:KEEPING UP
Post by: Jeanne on April 05, 2007, 12:38:48 PM

I think you have quite a bit of company, DR MUSIC GUY. You're not the only one who feels that marketing is everything these days (to some) and that quality has sunk to a low ebb. Unfortunately, it's not just in music.

I'll shut up now.

Wal-Mart Dog Treats Join Pet Food Recall (http://www.foxnews.com/wires/2007Apr05/0,4670,PetFoodRecall,00.html)

Quote
WASHINGTON —  The recall of pet foods and treats contaminated with an industrial chemical expanded Thursday to include dog biscuits made by an Alabama company and sold by Wal-Mart under the Ol'Roy brand.

The Food and Drug Administration said the manufacturer, Sunshine Mills Inc., is recalling dog biscuits made with imported Chinese wheat gluten. Testing has revealed the wheat gluten, a protein source, was contaminated with melamine, used to make plastics and other industrial products.

Also Thursday, Menu Foods, a major manufacturer of brand- and private-label wet pet foods expanded its original recall to include a broader range of dates and varieties. Menu Foods was the first of at least six companies to recall the now more than 100 brands of pet foods and treats made with the contaminated ingredient.

The recall now covers "cuts and gravy"-style products made between Nov. 8 and March 6, Menu Foods said. Previously, it only applied to products made beginning Dec. 3. In addition, Menu Foods said it was expanding the recall to include more varieties, but no new brands.

Welcome to the 21st Century, I know....I know....   :P

DR RLP - I have looked around for some over the air broadcasts, but my television channel numbers - even with my VCR off correspond to the cable channels, so I think I would have to unhook my VCR/cable to receive the over the air channels...so NO no HD as yet.  8)

An $8 A-B switcher from Radio Shack would solve that problem.

You have to have the digital tuner in your TV search for the channels. They aren't numbers that you'd be familiar with. For example, channel 9 (the ABC affiliate here in Charlotte) is actually digital channel 34.

But since you're getting digital cable with HD, you can just bypass the built-in digital tuner in your set.

Enjoyed shopping this afternoon and still got home and managed to fit in three different entertainments.

I began with last night's MEDIUM, a tense hour with some fantastic acting from all concerned. Adam Goldberg, an actor I don't usually like much, was very good in this episode. And I had tears of joy in my eyes at the relief Allison and Arial felt at the end. Very good performances from everyone in this outstanding episode.

(And, of course, I wanted to MURDER that middle school principal. Reminded me of the idiot I worked for my last four years.)

For the last hour, I did put in MURDER BY DECREE and am enjoying seeing it again after a long time away from it. I had forgotten how many well known actors are in this cast.

It's an Anchor Bay release, but to their credit they did give it an anamorphic transfer, so it looks as good as it can. Always was kind of drab brown in design with occasional splashes of color. Still looks that way. The mono soundtrack is very strong.

Back from a good lunch meeting.  I'd already decided that I had to fix something I wrote this morning, so I just rewrote that page - it had to do with where I'm setting the current chapter - one location felt forced and one felt real, but I thought I might get away with the forced one as it was a little more interesting visually.  So, that's what I wrote - but it felt forced - big surprise.  I went back and went with my first instinct.

...And while waiting for the bus on the corner of 125th and St. Nicholas Ave. this morning, a colleague of mine happened to come by.

-"Hey, we were just talking about you, and I was going to call you later..."

And since he also happened to be taking the bus to the Metro-North Station, we had some time to chat.   Well...  After our chat this morning, it looks like I may be up for two Broadway shows.  One new one.  And one continuing one.

-And the hits just keep on coming!

*Needless to say, I've been smiling from ear to ear ever since.  I'm not counting my chickens before they're hatched, but it is nice to know that my name is still in circulation - or back in circulation as it were.  And this morning just presented another set of "heady possibilities" to me - in a string of heady possibilities.  I swear, I'm either gonna get hired for all the potential jobs and have to decide among all the good, or I'm not gonna get hired for any of them.  Either way, I know I still have lots of day work lined up right now, so it's truly a win-win scenario.  :)

Title: Re:KEEPING UP
Post by: JoseSPiano on April 05, 2007, 04:09:34 PM
As for the Topic of the Day...

I had "sweetbreads" at Victoria & Albert's down in Disneyworld.  Pretty good.

Closer to home, Filipino cuisine is quite infamous for it's "chocolate pudding", dinuguan - which has no chocolate in it at all.  It's just very brown, almost to the point of being black.  It's basically composed of every part of the pig that people don't normally eat: tripe, ears, sometimes the feet.  And the blood - which, when cooked gives it its namesake color.

I've actually never had it.  Growing up, there were many times when I saw my parents making big pots of it for parties.  Unfortunately, the first step in the preparation was boiling the tripe for a few hours.  -Usually starting early in the morning.  Needless to say, the smell of tripe is not something pleasant to wake up to - and sometimes the smell was what would wake me up.

However...

I have had some "interesting" things in Vietnamese food - mainly in pho - triple, tendon, etc.

Oh - and I've always been a fan of beef liver and chicken livers.  However, chicken gizzards and chicken hearts... YUCK!!!!

Now I am hungry for liver and onions. But not tonight.  The Green Gables makes the best. It's all home cooking. The restaurant was a favorite of Esther Pauline Freidman and Pauline Esther Friedman when they were growing up....

(Eppie and Popo are also know as  Abigail Van Buren and Ann Landers.  I can't remember which is which)

I love Chicken gizzards and hearts, not so fond of chicken liver, but love beef liver.

Strange things I've eaten. Menudo, I guess.  There was the chocolate covered cricket once.  I've eaten rattle snake (tasted like chicken)

Cilla - whew!

I have written a little over nine pages, and I am pooped.  I'll have to reread it later - I'll probably end up smoothing some of it out, but I think it's okay - it's obviously the most critical part of the book, the denoument, but it seems to be working.

TOD

Years ago, when I was a travel agent, one of the airlines flew a group of the top selling agents to Denmark for the weekend.  The first night, they put us up in this incredible 11th century castle, and that night they served us the complete "Babbettes Feast."  During one of the courses, we were served hummingbird eggs, prepared the way Ron described the duck eggs.  I asked the person next to me what I was supposed to do with it, and she said to just pop the whole thing in your mouth.  I swear that damned egg stayed stuck in my windpipe for months.

BLACH!!!!

Back to the Topic of the Day for a bit...

Rattlesnake Sausage on a pizza at PieWorks in Durham, NC.  -They have some truly interesting topping choices.  -And their Reuben Pizza - complete with a pumpernickel crust! - is pretty tasty!

I've had Menudo and Posole and some other supposed hang-over cures... I like them.  It's all about the spicy broth.  The Filipino style menudo is more like "stir fry", and tongue is the main meat in it.  I like that too, but it's been years since I've had it.

I still have yet to try chicken feet off the dim sum cart.

LOL, I never watch lost, so to have the first thing I see be last night's episode in Iowa, well, I just cracked up

I wouldn't make too much of that....many people in many different states make disparaging remarks about their own areas.

"People talk so slowly down here!"  "Welcome to South Carolina, ma'am."

As for that location in Iowa....it might very well take that mechanic three days to get the part he needs.  I know it sometimes take two days just to get a letter from here to Berkeley.

And I've had my car in a garage that took a day and half to get a part from a local store.

Not to be picky, but don't you mean calves liver?

Sauted beef liver is like boot-soles and has a heavey-handed flavor. (You can help if out if you brasie it in a tomato sauce.)

Lucky you! I never could afford that fancy restaurant of the Grand Floridian! Even with my Disney employee discount!

And I even splurged on the chef's table seating.  With the wine pairings!

I have to say, it was actually quite the bargain.  The complimentary bottle of champagne that started off the meal was almost as much as the meal itself.  And they went ahead and recorked the five(!) unfinished bottles of wine and sent them to our hotel room.

*And since we were sitting in the kitchen and were allowed to query the cooks as they prepared the meals, I queried away.  And as a result of all my querying, we were treated to one of each dessert they were serving that night.

But, seriously, considering the service and the seven courses, it really is not an "overpriced hotel meal".

-Oh, our dinner at The Brown Derby that trip was quite good too.

I had read somewhere that, while still not confirmed, this is more likely at some point in the not-too-distant future.

Nope! The new CEO at Disney has said "NO!" to a release of Song of the South, at the last Shareholders Meeting!

But the Walt Disney Treasures DVD collection is not stopped! More new titles this December!

"Disney shows it has even more treasures up it's sleeve!

Walt Disney Home Entertainment continues the popular Walt Disney Treasures series with three new 2-Disc DVD sets featuring rarely seen footage presented with amazing color and sound. The seventh installment of Walt Disney Treasures will be available December 11, 2007 in a limited supply just in time for the holidays.

Predating even Mickey Mouse, the legendary and rarely-seen Oswald The Lucky Rabbit was Walt Disney's first big animated star, and having recently returned to the Disney fold, comes out of the vault for the first time ever on DVD. The silent shorts made from 1926 to 1927 with Walt's personal touch, are revitalized with a brand-new score specifically made for Walt Disney Treasures, Wave VII.

Chronological Donald, Volume 3 features the most prolific of "Walt's Fab Five," the short-tempered but hilarious Donald Duck in rarely seen solo shorts dating 1947 through 1950.

Disneyland: Secrets, Stories and Magic is a comprehensive look at the "Happiest Place on Earth." The centerpiece of this volume is a new documentary with archival footage, including Walt's own words, as well as new interviews that reveal the magic and manpower behind one of the world's most famous destinations.

Each volume features noted film historian, author, and critic Leonard Maltin. Each volume is individually numbered, with an authenticity certificate, and an exclusive lithograph in the collectible, unique packaging tins and available just in time for the holidays, in a limited supply only."

No campfire.  But the "S'More" came to the table on one big plate.  Basically it was constructed as follows:

(from the bottom up)
2 Graham Crackers (side by side)
About 16 Marshmallows
2 Hershey's Chocolate Bars (side by side)
2 Graham Crackers (side by side)

And that was heated up into one gooey, rich, marshmallow-ey, chocolate-y plate of goodness!

Sort of like this:

Good Evening!

Greetings from the beautiful(?) Westport Inn.

Can you say "Febreze"?

Whew! :-\

But it's a nice room, and the decor of the hotel is quite interesting.  It seems like they updated every decade or so without really get rid of the "old decade".  I stopped into the restaurant/lounge earlier just to check it out.. flocked wallpaper, plexiglass ceiling light fixtures, 70's mod patterned fabric on the chairs, etc... Truly eclectic.  Groovy.

-I decided to just veg out in my room tonight.  However, after tomorrow's "10 out of 12", I'm sure I'll partake of a cocktail or two.

Back from rehearsal and am now REALLY pooped.  We ran straight through, but Merissa was not feeling well suddenly.  Afterwards, I had a strong talk with her - she's never sick, just like Guy Haines is never sick EVER until he has to do an album.  Then he's sick.   So, I had to explain she's head-tripping herself because she's basically scared shitless.  I told her she had to go home tonight and get out of her own way, and that she's in safe, good hands, the show is very strong, she's a good singer and actress, and the audience will be there to have a good time.  She totally got it and will do what she needs to do.  I've known this about her for a few weeks now - lots of drama, but I told her she'll be much happier without it.  After the run, we began at the beginning, with specificity in movement, lyric, point, mood, and energy.  We'll continue that tomorrow at eleven, and then do a run.

THE OFFICE was indeed hilarious. Poor Michael is just so clueless and juvenile in so many ways. Karen is making me like her less and less. I'm ready for Jim to admit that he hasn't forgotten about Pam.

Glad to see Andy back, even if only for a few seconds and a hilarious capper at the end of the episode. Dwight made me laugh a lot tonight, too.

30 ROCK had a good show with Will Arnet playing a gay NBC executive whom Alec Baldwin tries to distract by using Kenneth the (nerdy) page. "You're the worst gay bait in history," Alec screams at him late in the show. Priceless.

And I finished the evening with CSI, another episode I wasn't really crazy about. Once again, the two cases overlapped, and some of the folks with really surly attitudes got by with what amounted to slaps on the wrist. Not to my liking.

Someone mentioned it here a few weeks ago - but, I'm watching The Sniper - and someone had said it had two jump out of your seat moments.  I've heard this about older films and I never find it true, just because we've had so many jump out of your seat moments in decades since.  Well, those two moments came and I did indeed jump - they're really shocking and brilliantly directed and would work in a movie theater with a full house even today.

Just finished smoothing out what I'd written today - almost eleven pages - something of a record for me - although I think on one of the Krtizer books I did about sixteen in one day.  I mostly liked what I read - I cut one little paragraph, and really smoothed out some awkwardly worded stuff, and I think it's compelling, at least I hope it is.

I won a couple of really spiffy movie posters in an auction that ended last night.  All the posters were linen-backed, and a group of 12 posters began dwindling rapidly as bids skyrocketed beyond my meager means to procure them all.

Still, I set me sights on three...and won two.

Here is one of them...a "British quad" (similar to a half-sheet....roughly 40" X 40")

We're here! We just had a lovely dinner with a couple of our Angelino friends at a French restaurant at the Farmer's Market. Boy, has THAT area changed. I hadn't been there in at least 10 years!

The weather in LA is absolutely stunning, and there is so much in bloom, but without the accompanying pollen that we get in the south. I love it here!

And the LA Times gave us a good review, which should be in tomorrow's paper. Hooray!

It took a day to get the wireless internet to work because the clerks do not understand the technology at all. I drove to their partner hotel today and was able to get the instructions on how to make it work for Macs and now I'm good to go!

We're staying at the same hotel we always stay at. I've been staying here for the last 15 years when I work in LA. It's remarkably cheap ($78/night) and has a charming courtyard swimming pool. Unbelievably quiet. It could use a little freshening up, but who couldn't?

I have mentioned before about the evil developer who almost ruined our lives.

We had quite a few phone calls this morning around 6am from friends who didn't know we were in LA. They called to tell us that the evil developer was on the front page, and that the 5 story loft he built 10 feet from our National Register house is going into foreclosure. It delved into lots of gory details including some of his underhanded dealing with local politicians. Sweet!

How about Saturday night?

We're staying near the corner of Crenshaw and Wilshire. And remember the theatre I had asked you about months ago? It was one that has always intriguied me but I didn't know the name. (It's a block from my hotel) Anyway, it's called the Wilshire Ebell. Does the name ring E-bell?
