Title: BRILLIANTLY ILLUMINATING
Post by: bk on March 04, 2011, 12:09:27 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes were not brilliantly illuminating in any way, shape, or form, and now it is time for you to post until the brilliantly illuminating cows come home.

Good morning, all! I went to be around 8:30 last night; I'm sure it's depression over the current turn of events; the the Toyland project over, I'm concerned about meeting my expenses. I've had a couple of calls about arrangements - like converting a holiday album written for about 8 players, or an arrangement I did for an album with 15 players, to a pops symphony orchestra - but the singers want the work for nothing, hear the estimated costs, and run away to figure out how to have it done by someone else at a cheaper rate.

I will stop into Toyland every few days to check on the office, insure there's been no break in or problem that I need to alert the California office about, tote home a few books or other possessions that have been sitting there - once the office is officially closed and I can't get in, I don't want my possessions carted away with the rest of the office contents. The question is what to do with the piano.

So, today is a day at Encores! Yesterday was Joshie's birthday, so I have a gift to wrap for him before I leave. On my way down, I will stop at Citibank and talk to one of the investment bankers about cashing in a part of my IRA: there is no way I can manage the 2010 IRS payment and accountant fees without it. The IRA was never much and since I lost half of it in the 2008 crash, it's not accumulated much since.

More coffee.

I forgot to mention that 25 years ago this week, my reconstruction of Cole Porter's JUBILEE was given its premiere by the New Amsterdam Theatre Company, produced by the late great Bill Tynes. This chilly weather should have reminded me; I remember running around like mad the last weeks of February, delivering and retrieving music from copyists and I remember how damned cold it was!

That's the movie I wrote that stars Kelly Preston, Dan Haggerty, Bo Hopkins and Pato Hoffmann.

I'm still here, DR John G, but I got distracted by some paperwork...

Don't you just hate it when that happens?   Paper is supposed to remain where it is placed and not go prancing around calling attention to itself.  Honestly!  If one more batch of paper distracts me...well, I don't know what!  Maybe I'll drag out my shredder.  That should do the trick!

CDs however, I have been listening to.

Arun Daga's new CD (I think he was a contestant, or maybe even a winner, on a season of Indian Idol).

A CD of songs from 3 1990s Bollywood movies: AKELE HUM AKELE TUM; FIRST LOVE LETTER; DIL HAI BETAAB. Have never seen nor heard of any of these movies, but the songs are nice.

Hello, everybody! I have returned from a good day at City Center Encores! with Joshie, who loved his birthday gift, and the mighty Rob Berman. conductor extraordinaire. We all had a slice of Joshie's birthday cake, which was a lemon cake with butter cream frosting and beautful colored frsting swirls from a pastry tube, Joshie's brother Jeremy baked it for him yesterday and it was quiye yummilicious.

After we finished up today's work, I went down to the WHERE'S CHARLEY? rehearsal on 3 to see my beloved Rebecca Luker, who introduced me to a friend of my friend Curtis, Lauren Worsham, who's playing Amy. I spoke to the truly strange Howard McGillin who's always friendly when I'm with someone he knows but looks at me with horror whenever I address him on my own as if he's wondering why I'm not down at the dump shooting rats.

After that I stopped at the bank and cashed in some of my IRA to pay off my 2010 taxes next week.

San Diego Out!   Memphis In!!  I'll save almost $1500 going to the seminar in Memphis vs the seminar in San Diego. And it's at a marriott so I can build up even more points to use on a New York vacation.  The seminar itself looks similar and I'll be much more comfortable with 400 people vs 3000 people. PLUS it's during Memphis in May and includes a ticket to the World Barbeque contest.  Fun!

Today I found out the state ran out of money for court appointed attorneys so they aren't paying claims either.  My state claims are minimal, so that's no biggie to me, but I saw an email from a woman who is going to be financially devastated if she doesn't get some of her claims paid soon.   I am so thankful that I was inspired to get into immigration where I get paid by my clients and that although things are tight, I'm getting by without the pain others are experiencing.

I remember my ask BK question from yesterday.

Did you have access to Harold Rome's recording of Gone With the Wind? If memory serves me there were additional material not found on cast recording.

I suspect he had access to the 18 tracks of the British Columbia recording he licensed. I would guess that British Columbia cannot give him access to somethng they don't have on the recording they're licensing.

As I mentioned here a week or so ago, Roger Corman is shipping me a box of CHEYENNE WARRIOR DVDs to sell at the upcoming Festival of the West in Scottsdale, AZ.

That's the movie I wrote that stars Kelly Preston, Dan Haggerty, Bo Hopkins and Pato Hoffmann.

If anybody is interested in buying a copy, please contact me.

I must confess that I have never seen CHEYENNE WARRIOR, nor am I familiar with Pato Hoffmann.

Went to The Roadhouse Grill for my niece Katie's birthday dinner. Had a Pomegranate martini. It was tasty, but made me not sleep well and also caused me to have several very odd dreams. Not bad dreams particularly, just odd dreams.

If your dreams involved Leonardo DiCaprio, then it might be INCEPTION.

And you could tell him the reason is that he isn't down at the dump for you to shoot!

Worked a lot with the helper and we're all straightened out now - the disaster wasn't too bad - we'd already actually shipped four of the six invoices as those people had written us and we'd seen that they hadn't been sent - the other two are going out today and then, at long last, everything should be on track from here on in and easy to check if something goes astray.

Fun!

Pato Hoffmann is a fine actor from Bolivia, who plays the title role in the film.

He played several Native American roles in films (e.g. WILD BILL) back in the 1990s.

He picked up a small, albeit impressive, following from this movie.

Like me, he still gets fan mail from it.

I discovered that Bright House has a "On Demand" exercise channel and have decided that it's time I get off my lazy butt and do something about all this weight I've gained.  I'm noticing more and more health problems and that fall the other week scared me.

I found a 2 mile walking program and while I'm proud to say that I'm able to complete it, I'm so tired afterwards that when I sit down on the couch to catch my breath, I fall asleep.  There is no question that I am very out of shape.

I've made my mind up that I'm going to keep it up.  30 minutes is not a long time to work out.

You are so very welcome!

I'm doing pretty good.  I no longer have my black eye and the cut is almost healed.  My only worry is that the deepest part of the cut has some scar tissue that may turn out to be a problem.  We'll have to see how it goes.

Say, does anyone here know someone called Adam Tilly?  He asked to friend me on Facebook but I don't think I know him.  I looked at his friend list and while it over a hundred, I didn't see anyone I knew.  I don't like to friend someone when I'm not sure who they are.

Cilla, I am glad you are going to save $1,500.00, but personally I would rather be in San Diego.

Oh not me!  I've always wanted to go to Memphis and this will be a great chance to do it.  I want to see the National Civil Rights museum, maybe Graceland, but maybe not, Beale Street and many other places I've heard so much about from friends and family.

Danise, if you click on his name, it should tell you who your friends in common are. If there are none, you can just ignore his request.
There wasn't one friend in common so I guess I will ignore him.  I hate to do that if someone wants to be friends but with all the scary stories about Facebook, I don't think it's worth the chance.

Don't feel bad about ignoring him.

I remember when everyone thought that Dan Haggerty was a relative of mine but it's the wrong spelling of my last name.

I've never been to Memphis.  I like San Diego.  I have plans to take Sherlock to the dog beach in nearby Del Mar, but not in June so I'm glad Cilla is going someplace new.

A reader of The Tacoma News Tribune wrote a letter to the editor complaining about all of these selfish state workers who are paid over $100,000.00 a year.

I guess because I'm a County worker instead of a State worker, I don't get that kind of pay.   I haven't even had a raise in 4 years.

Raise, Hell?  Starting in July we are getting a lower.

I am having fun watching the Midgettes play in the state championship game.  We are leading by two right now, but if you listened to the tone of the announcers you'd think we were losing.  So much hype for the other team....they are number one rated...we aren't rated....

DRs Laura and Danise - I had an echo while lying flat on my back in cardiac ICU after my stent was placed.  It was one of the easier procedures during that ordeal, so I'm not worried about the next one.  I posted the video mostly so you all could meet Dr. Jain.

8 point lead for the bad guys...there's still time, but the have to get their little sophomore butts in gear.

That's the cool thing.  Our team has only 1 senior and she's not even a starter.  The starters are 4 sophmores and one junior.  The other team has girls who have signed at division 1 college teams

The province from Canada is licensing cds. Anthing to make a buck these days.

I thought it was EMI as well.

It turns out to be Chappell. Who owns that label?

Alas, the audition day ended with a young woman losing her footing during the dance callbacks.  She's fine, apparently, and, luckily, her family lives in Marietta.  But she took quite a hard fall, and it looks like she may have broken her wrist as well as dislocated her jaw. -And she also went into mild shock too.  Needless to say, it unsettled everyone for a bit, but, again, she seems to be doing fine, and she has plenty of friends and family keeping her company at the hospital.

I got back a little while ago from having dinner with DR edisaurus and her ever-lovin' Greg.  We went to JCT Kitchen (http://jctkitchen.com/). It's one of those "noisy" restaurants, however, the food was quite good. Very good. -And it had to be one of the most delicious - and richest(!) - meals I've had in a long time. Bacon and bacon fat figures prominently on their menu.

I'll be eating granola and salad tomorrow. ;)

hI spoke to the truly strange Howard McGillin who's always friendly when I'm with someone he knows but looks at me with horror whenever I address him on my own as if he's wondering why I'm not down at the dump shooting rats.

I'm sorry, but I had to laugh at this.

That was my goal. It was either "at the dump shooting rats" or "fresh off my coal barge."

Howard's a handsome man and I love his voice, but I'm not sure I like him much personally.
Anybody who has played the Phantom that long has to be strange.
