Happy Birthday, WEL!
Happy 25th Anniversary, Laura!

Many happy returns of the day (although, have you ever tried to return a day? It's never a pleasant experience, even when you keep the receipt...)

The Lovely Wife(tm) and myself have been known to quote about 95% of The Princess Bride at the slightest provocation ("buh-bye, boys! Have fun storming the castle!" being probably the most done). From stage shows, "Opportunity is not a lengthy visitor" (Into the Woods, but you all knew that) is one of our more common ones.

DRNOEL - nothing smaller than 12 point and Courier is a good easy to read font.  Nothing ALL CAPS or SCRIPT or BOLD....difficult to read.

If I don't use ALL CAPS, how will they know what's being sung?  The script frequently goes back and forth between dialogue and lyrics.

BK and DR Noel:  Unfortunately, I have heard two other people mention the same things about PARADE.  Such a shame.  It sounds like the case of THE GRASS HARP.  Great score, but don't go see the show.

DR S. Woody White: I appreciate your comments on my post.  I guess I'll be known as the person who "slaps the caps on peoples' noggins". :)

DR Jane: Thank you for letting me share.  Now...may I compliment you?  I notice in your postings that you always take time to respond to everyone's messages individually.  It may seem like a small thing, but I think it is very classy.

DR Jane, re: your son's waterbed.

It seems that waterbeds have changed since I last got one.  Now most of them being sold are called soft-sided and zip up in a mattress.  That must be what your son has (since it would seem very unlikely that you could put the other kind on a box spring).

I tried the air mattress last night and it was extremely uncomfortable.  I need this new bed and fast.

Btw, for DR TCB, MORE DREAMS about the same person.  I believe your theory is correct. :)

I think the one thing that has truly bugged me during my time out here in L.A. so far is that no one seems to know about nor follow the "Stand to the Right, Pass of the Left" rule when it comes to using escalators.  Is it only a mid-West and East Coast thing?  Is it because L.A. is "traditionally" not a walking city?

Jose,

This is a huge pet peeve of mine. Toronto has an underground city, connected with escalators. And nobody follows the sttr, potl etiquette. Drives me nuts. And when I politely ahem, I usually get a look.

I'd love for you to visit Toronto, BTW. I'd discover all the best routes and the best bakeries. It's a pleasure to read about your days and nights in LA.

First, thank you all for the birthday wishes.  We DRs are really a family.

I enjoyed PARADE on stage.  I thought it was the perfect mixture of old-style book musical with a modern but NOT through-sung score.  And GRASS HARP depends on the production... I have seen both good and bad.

My favorite quote is the one from TEA AND SYMPATHY that I use as the footnote on my posts.

BK - Did you get my e-mail Saturday?

"I like the typos quote, DB. It never ceases to amaze me that I can read a script ten times and miss a perfectly obvious typo each time. One of the producers I'm working with now NEVER misses a typo. On the one hand, that's good because she lets me know and I get to fix the typos before the script goes to the network; on the other hand, it's embarrassing!"

* * *

Panni,

Do you proofread the electronic version or the hard copy? I always catch more when I'm reading from paper.

I also find that, while looking at the little things, it's easy to miss large-typeface items like chapter headings. Over the years I've seen these two nearly missed before the book went to press: "Skakespeare," and "Anne of Green Bagles."

" 'twas beauty killed the beast."  KING KONG
"I know that I'm different, but from now on, I'm going to try to be the same." WHAT'S UP DOC
"I want to be an. . . actress. . .on the. . .stage." MOULIN ROUGE (this one never fails to crack me up, with Nik's halting, unbelievable delivery).
"The day has yet to come when I can be had for the price of a cocktail and a handful of salted peanuts."  ALL ABOUT EVE

The final line of WOMEN IN LOVE, which escapes me this early in the a.m.

Greetings all.

Happy Birthday, DR WEL.
Happy Anniversary, DR Laura and spouse.

Fave movie lines?  hmmmm, so far so good, but here's mine:

"They drummed you right out of Hollywood, so you come crawling back to Broadway.  Well, Broadway doesn't go for booze and dope!" (VOTD)

Also (From Funny Girl, aka amongst my friends simply as FGirl):

(Said with pasted on smile, between gritted teeth):

"So, shoot the picture!"

From same film, and used just this past weekend, or whenever I hear slightly depressing, or life-altering news.....:

"Stop boiling water!...."

(The news I responded to this weekend was certainly not life-changing, just a slight change in course on something....)

Yes DRNOEL - LYRICS IN CAPS.....I thought you were specifically asking about the script portion.

Sorry.....sometimes Lyrics are in caps and INDENTED which makes them even easier to isolate and read.

Hey, could someone here do me a small favor.

On the middle of this page it says Customer Service:
http://www.e-waterbeds.com/contact.htm

There is a link that says "email", but my computer won't allow me to use it.  Can someone just tell me what the email address is.

THANKS.

Dan in TO - I read the hard copy for proofing.
BTW - I think that with a slight alteration in spelling (change "bagles")  ANNE OF GREEN BAGELS could be the next great Irish-Jewish novel.

I'm back after a very wonderful extended weekend at the shore.  I jumped the rough surf, lazed in the sun, surrendered to my compulsion to dig deep holes in the sand, walked, shopped and biked the boardwalk, rode the amusements, played miniture golf, and ate many delish meals and partook of lots of treats (salt water taffy, fudge, caramel popcorn, and ice cream--I even ate a corn dog for the first time in years!)  Now I am feeling very much relaxed and centered and balanced and refreshed.  The only problem is that I am feeling more ambitious about going through the past few days' posts than I am about doing my job.  Ah, well...such is life...

Favorite lines:

Happy Hunting:  "You mean his name is Grace, too?"

The Little Foxes:  "I hope you die!  I hope you die soon!  I'll be waiting for you to die!"

Harvey:  "Oh, Myrtle Mae, you have a lot to learn, and I hope you never learn it."

Platinum (where Alexis Smith's character tells of the moment she realized she needed to shake up her career):  "I can't remember if it happened when I was doing Hello, Dolly! in Cincinatti, Ohio, or when I was doing Mame in Columbus, Ohio, or when I started doing Hello, Dolly! in the middle of Mame in Cleveland, Ohio."

Stage Door (too many from this one, but I'll go with:)  "Oh, Linda!  Mr. Powell's car is here!  Mr. Powell isn't here, just his car!"

I have lots of favorite lines, some from something campy like VALLEY OF THE DOLLS ("They drummed you out of Hollywood, so you come crawlin' back to Broadway, Well, Broadway doesn't go for booze and dope. Now, get out of my way 'cause I got a man waitin' for me.")

Or from something southern like STEEL MAGNOLIAS - "Oh, Clairee, you're too twisted for color TV."

We;re under a flood watch until 6 p.m. TOMORROW night from the offshoot storms from Hurricane Frances. It's a mess here; been raining since early this morning, but thankfully so far no downpours, just a slow, steady drizzle. Supposedly, it's going to get heavier later tonight with up to 5 inches of rain over the two days. The NC mountains are getting a foot of rain in the forecast.

Hmmm, the lady at e-waterbeds already responded.

She won't ship directly to canada.  But said she would ship it to a friend in the US who could then ship it to me.  SHe also recommended someone who she thought would ship directly!
