I have may missed this earlier posting and I just found this by luck, but......

Did anyone know that HHW own Julia Hansen is on the Grease reality show? Whatever it is called?

She's been a topic of discussion for the past two weeks, DR Michael Shayne.  I don't know how you missed it.  Have you watched this pathetic piece of crap?  Oy!

Hillbillies in a Haunted House is a great example of the auteur theory.

But of course even it pales in comparison to Las Vegas Hillbillies which has BOTH Mamie Van Doren and Jayne Mansfield in the cast.

I liked 2001:A SPACE ODYSSEY more now than I did back in 1968.

Good morning!

Another gorgeous but cold day. I have all my Sunday inside chores to do today, but if it warms up a bit more, I may take a little walk at some point this afternoon. The sky couldn't be bluer or clearer.

I feel exactly the same, DR JRand. I was not a big fan when it first came out. Subsequent viewings over the years have given me a grudging respect for it, and now I quite like it. Not in my all-time Top 100 or anything like that, but I can enjoy its pleasures and appreciate what Kubrick was doing.

I have to say that I cannot fathom why Peter Jackson cast Adrien Brody in this role. He may be a talented actor, but in the few films I've seen him in since his Oscar win for THE PIANIST, I've found him completely lacking in charisma for a leading man. In fact, I found him the ruination of HOLLYWOODLAND. I wanted his character to completely go away and leave us with ONLY the George Reeves story.

I still have SUPERNATURAL left to view from last Thursday's plethora of hit shows. I'm not sure when exactly today I'll get to it. I still plan to keep to my planned viewings of THE NEXT BEST THING and the 1925 BEN-HUR. It's been years since I saw the latter on a TCM screening. I'm hoping the DVD will look wonderful.

I also noticed that ESPN2 today (or is it ESPN Classic) is showing the 2004 and 2005 National Figure Skating Championships. I might want to record the 2004 show. I assume this will be highlights. They're also showing this year's Grand Prix Cup of Russia competition, too.

Off to prepare my monthly PROMOTIONS report.

And DR MATTH - that is why I am not buying the HOLLYWOODLAND dvd....it's not telling the story I want to see.

Couldn't agree more. The MYSTERIES & SCANDALS thirty minute expose on George Reeves shown on the E! channel was much more entertaining and fact-filled than HOLLYWOODLAND and without the irritating framing story concerning Adrien Brody and his wife's failing marriage.

DR Michael S. If you aren't watching the Super Bowl, they are going to show 3 hours of Grease YTOTIW. all repeats of what has happened so far.  I won't be watching either the Super Bowl or Grease YTOTIW

Good Morning~!
It's cleaning day for me too. I'm going to try to have my main floor cleaned and organized (read that box up what i don't know what to do with and put it in the basement) by the end of the day.  It really shouldn't be that hard to do.

My parents are going to stay here on their way to Arizona at the end of the month. They always spend March in Green Valley.  They planned to leave on the 25th but decided to come and spend the day with me on the 24th and they will be 100 miles into their trip when they start out Sunday morning.

I am most pleased about this. Not only because I'll spend the day with them, but because I finally have a real incentive to get things cleaned and organized.  It really isn't bad, just clutter, but I have been here a year, I guess it's time.

I also had fun yesterday going to shops and looking through catalogues and on the internet at office furniture.  I didn't buy any thing and won't yet unless I find an outrageous sale, but it's been really fun to plan and dream

I also put together computers on both the Gateway and Dell sites and no matter what I start with it always ends up about the same price. Not buying that yet either, but at least I know what I'm going to need to save. I never realized how much of a planner I am until this past year or two. But I gotta admit it's a lot of fun

2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY bored me to tears.  I have never seen it again since seeing it in its initial release in a theatre in Cincinnati.  I want to say the RKO Palace.  All those grand theatres are long gone.

Sunday morning greetings!  Sunny and very cold here in SW Ohio - the thermometer outside our kitchen window reads 18F, but we've always estimated that it's about 10 degrees over, because it's in the sun.

DH Richard and I had a delightful Saturday evening, supping at Izzy's Deli, browsing at a bookstore, and then going to Music Hall for the Cincinnati Pops.  In many ways, we agreed with this review from the Cincinnati Enquirer.  Maestro Kunzel is getting a little snarky with his patter, too.

I wasn’t as bored the second time I watched SPACE ODYSSEY, probably because I was home & could take breaks, do other things, read…..etc.

From Dear Reader Iris:
Quote
Well, well, look what I found on the internet.
www.britsuperstore.com

I had fun browsing the site.  The fruit cakes don’t mention a marzipan topping, just frosting on one.  The other one says it has a short shelf life which makes me wonder where the brandy is.  I could have a field day in the candy section, except for the English chocolates, I prefer Lindt chocolate to Thornton’s.

My mother, who was born in England, always kept a tin of English toffees and other assorted English hard candies next to her bed.  I was permitted to help myself when ever I wanted, and I did.

On my father’s side of the bed was a tin of chocolates.  Goodness, no wonder I have a terrible sweet tooth and no control.

So they changed Juliana's bio, did they?  I suspect that at some point lying to the public can become a legal issue, especially if they got a lot of letters about it.

I must say, I had an interesting reaction to 2001: A Space Odyssey, which I saw the day after it opened at the Pacifics (formerly the Warner Cinerama) on Hollywood Blvd.  I walked out of the theater thinking this is either the biggest piece of crap ever made or it's a great film.  For a few years I went with the latter and I saw the film several times.  I was happy to see it before all the hype and the druggies adopted it as their own.

So, interestingly, for me the film hasn't worn that well, and I find it almost impossible to sit through now.  That's why hearing the North score and synching it with the early sequences of the film is so interesting - it's much more movie-like.
