All this talk of Graeter's ice cream makes me salivate for chocolate ice cream. Yum. Except that I'm trying to avoid all that stuff.

I have done Times Square once. I was a very little boy and was completely at the mercy of the crushing crowds and holding on for dear life to my uncle's hand. I also remember that it was unbelievably cold. This was 1958, I believe.

Hello and a happy New Years Eve to all!

We're going out to run an errand---we're celebrating by hanging our curtains!

Do we know how to live or what?

I do recall Cillaliz's stories about the bats now. I had a bat once. Long ago and far away...I bought a house in San Diego County. It was on a hillside, on a lovely 2-lane road. The City decided the road needed to be wider and, in the process of expansion, cut down many trees. Lots of wildlife live in trees. One was the Bat Who Came to Visit. He flew into my bedroom. It really freaked me out. I couldn't persuade him to leave. Eventually a friend came over and got him. It was not a pleasant experience.

I tried to get a bat to fly in my window one time.  I was hoping it might turn into Frank Langella.  Or course, when I was married to the old bat, I tried to throw her out the window.

Actually I have been working on a screeplay about people who live in glass houses.  The working title is THE NAKED PRAY.

They must be religious.

Did Dakota leave us?  Oh that's right, her boyfriend is pulling out at midnight.

LA PERICHOLE was quite delightful but it was a broadcast from Geneva, not Aix-en-Provence.  Maria Ewing, then Mrs Peter Hall, is quite funny, sort of like Imogene Coca playing Carmen, with excellent French.  Her leading man was quite funny and very handsome.  DR MBarnum might have abandoned Bollywood for Neil Rosenshein.

One strange moment: when the viceroy's soldiers are hunting down Perichole and Piquillo, why are the Peruvian soldiers all wearing breastplates and tutus?  Sometimes these Eurotrash productions irk me.

That's a euphemism?

DR MATTH - The Naked Prey has some very disturbing images that have haunted me since I saw it 40 years ago.

Try dancing while hanging the curtains:

Hang your curtains
Step in time
Hang your curtains
Step in time
Have a little shnapps with a little bit of lime
Hang your curtains

Less than an hour until the East Coast New Year - however, it doesn't really count so we'll see how many of our hainsies/kimlets (and GUESTS) tough it out for the real New Year's ball drop - and let me tell you the balls will drop here at haineshisway.com.

So that is the same The Naked Prey movie that I was remembering?  With Cornel Wilde?  Now, that is someone our Mr. Barnum would have liked!

Hmm... The Jerry Herman doesn't seem to be on tonight here in Richmond.  However, that all-star tribute to Ella Fitzgerald is.  :)

In our araea, it comes on tomorrow night at 9:30. I've already set the DVR to record it in case I'm busy watching something else, or if I just plain forget about it.

Happily, it's going to be on one of the HD PBS stations! That made me very happy.

Well the girls are extremely wound up. I'm expecting them to come down the stairs at any time with little tiny party hats and little 2008 eyeglasses
