I had Italian-buttered sausage ravioli for dinner.

After work, I needed to nap.  It's not easy getting up at 4:45am.
It was a very busy day at Borders.
It was also a very happy day - customers, managers, co-workers were all in great, friendly moods, except for the opening manager who said in her morning meeting comments that she's sick and tired of having to wake up at four in the morning and come to work!  It was quite a strange meeting.
I got hugs from two very unexpected sources, and one from an expected one.  Some things are beginning to show a lot of promise. . .

There's no 10pm showing of SWEENEY tonight, so I'll hit the first available showing tomorrow after the family get-together, which Mum has decided she's not attending.  For now.  Tomorrow she may have changed her mind again!    Her trip for her cortisone shot last Thursday did wear her out, plus that day was cold, chilly and rainy.  Tomorrow it's supposed to be nice, so, if she wants to go out, I'm more than happy to take her.

Tonight, I'm introducing her to the joys of A CHRISTMAS STORY on TBS' marathon showing.  I can't believe, nor can she, that she'd never seen it.

It's a new page, and I'm sure that Michael Kidd is seeing a new sun in a new sky. . .

Loved DR JOSE's photos of the Simbulan Christmas.

And DR SINGDAW's photos of Christmas lights....look exactly the way I feel sometimes.

DR RLP posted the main street USA photo....very nice.

And I must mention DR FJL's odes to Uranus.....

Enjoyed DR SANDRA's drawing of lunch.

DR DANISE has turned into a lumberjack, and she's okay.

I also found the TORCHWOOD episode with Captain Jack meeting Captain Jack very very good.

BUT my favorite IMAGE of the entire season is Mrs. Betty Draper (Donna Reed with an edge) - standing in her backyard in her negligee, with a Salem hanging out of her mouth, and shooting the neighbor's carrier pigeons one by one.....MAD MEN.....

My favorite new series of the year....TORCHWOOD a close second.

Okay folks - since we need more reality television during the strike.....I think MR BK should host a new version of QUEEN FOR A DAY....from the Moulin Rouge in Hollywood.....

And DR CASON can be the announcer saying:  Would YOU like to be Queen for a Day?

And DR PENNYO can model the gowns while DRs JANE and JEANNE show off the appliances....

I would watch....even in prime time!!

Our Christmas Eve do is complete.  We had a grand time visiting, eating (dinner), opening presents, and eating (dessert).  Rob and Mary Linda are now packing up for their drive to Michigan early tomorrow morning and Richard and I are listening to the dishwasher run.

And I'm back from the 7:25 showing of SWEENEY TODD, which I liked even more the second time.  I'm starting to think the film makes anthony less a passive character than the stage show, and that the characters are not so short-shrifted after all.

I think I will now open all the cards I've received in the past month.  I have two packages to open tomorrow morning before I head to the Raines' residence around 11 am.

Sorry, but I don't find Johnny Depp sexy in any of those named movies, DR td. Different strokes, I guess. I just go for beefier men than either Depp or DiCaprio.

Very sorry to read about Michael Kidd. He was a truly great choreographer. Makes me want to watch the entire SEVEN BRIDES right now, but it's late, and I have an early screening of SWEENEY TODD to get to.

I guess you could say I've had a Blu-Christmas, or at least a Blu-Christmas Eve.

I began my evening with the Blu-ray of THE OMEGA MAN. It had an interesting premise for a sci-fi movie, and it was eerie seeing LA all deserted as Heston prowled the streets. The Heston scenes looked really great in high def (and the old fashioned fake blood they used to use comes across as tomato paste now), but any time there was second unit work or stock footage inserted into the film, the quality of the image fell drastically. The old mono sound dates the picture, too, as does the "jive" talk that Rosalind Cash uses throughout the picture.

Then, I went ahead and started the Blu-rays of THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT beginning with the first movie. All those "zoomed to be widescreen" images are still there, and in high def, it ruins the sharpness when they do that accentuating the grain structure of the image and, as I said before, throwing off compositions sometimes with people's heads being chopped off. I noticed on THE GREAT ZIEGFELD one, Sinatra says in the voiceover, "If this lavish number could be done at all today, it might look something like this" which, I guess, gives them license to crop the sides and blow up the image, but no such pronouncements are made for GOOD NEWS, HARVEY GIRLS, SHOW BOAT, AN AMERICAN IN PARIS, or the other films that get this treatment.

I also watched all of the special features on the first disc. It's the same special features as on the sDVD versiion: the promo featurette, the 25th anniversary footage (embarrassing when George Murphy forgets Errol Flynn and the poor man stands there waiting to be introduced and never is), the Robert Osborne introduction, and the George and Alana Harrison TV special on the premiere night interviewing six or so of the stars in attendance that night.

All of the vintage stuff looks really bad - faded, very soft, and loaded with scratches and dirt.

So I went over sawed every one of the darn things down with a hand saw.   I didn’t chop them up or drag them up front for the garbage man to pick up.  Let him do that and he had best not say a word to me.

Well, were I your neighbor, I might not say a word; but, I sure a hell would take all the trimmings and dump them over on your side of the fence!
