Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of The Act, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently in Coachella doing their new act - Let's Face the MOOsic and Moo.
-
And the word of the day is: DOYEN!
-
First post after BK!

T.O.D.

Good night, Tom.

Today, the cast of Hairspray (those who choose to partake) is going to meet at the boardwalk in downtown Olympia at 11:00 a.m. Heidi, the director of Hairspray, wrote in her e-mail when asking for participants:
I would like us to all get together this weekend and sing "I Know Where I've Been" as a memorial to the victims of the Charlottesville horrors and the horrors that don't seem to be stopping in our country. As entertainers we have a voice and I think it would be a missed opportunity if we didn't use it.
So, we're going to meet, sing, and probably sing something else. Hopefully, people will be there to hear us and they'll enjoy it. :)

Good night and have a good day, all.
-
Good morning to all.

TOD
I don't think I was ever somewhere that hot 112! I know I was in Palm Springs that was about 107F. Florida has gotten over 100 and not sure what the heat index would be.
As for the coldest. I had to look it up and that would be in Montreal. the Snowstorm of the Century was in March 1971 dumped 18.5 of snow on Montreal, with 68.35 mile p/h winds. The coldest with the wind chill was about -25F
-
Good morning, all.

I experienced many extremely hot days in California, but never kept the actual temperatures in mind. I recall a few times during a Santa Ana when it would be reported as 105 or 107, something in that range. I was in Death Valley a couple of times and of course that was extraordinary, but I don't know what it was on those days. It was nowhere near the extreme, though. Maybe 110 or a little over? Back in L.A., the Valley was always hotter than the Basin, and the running joke was that people in the Valley never turned their AC on till it reached 100.
In one of my early years in Danbury, Connecticut, there was a heat wave that took us into the low 100s. I remember coming out of the supermarket and suddenly saying to myself, "self, this is 100-degree heat". It was extraordinary because I actually recognized it -- it was like a Southwestern dry heat, not at all what you'd expect here. I don't think that's happened since the early 1990s. I should look that one up and see what it was all about.
I can document the coldest days. The year I lived in the Chicago burbs, the wind chill factor on Super Bowl Sunday was -45. It was actually kind of neat, feeling that for a minute between car and house. In this area we've reached wind chills of -10 and -20. I felt that but good one day in NYC playing auditions and walking two short blocks between studio and parking garage. That was worse than the -45 because none of us were dressed for it. In Chicago you're always dressed for the weather. (Seriously. They're very smart about that there. The weather changes on a dime, and so do the clothes.)

Good morning, all!

I think there's another kidney stone coming on. I am lying low today.
-
I dreamed about adopting a cat, but I've now forgotten the other two I was sure I would remember!
-
DR JohnG, while you were reading about Proust, I was most likely watching The Great British Baking Show or my PBS Britcoms.
-
BK, I am happy you had a safe drive.
-
DR vixmom, enjoy the show!
-
I think there's another kidney stone coming on. I am lying low today.
Oy! Vibes it does not give you a problem. What have you done with them in the past?
-
Good morning, all.
-
DR JohnG, while you were reading about Proust, I was most likely watching The Great British Baking Show or my PBS Britcoms.
I haven't seen the Baking Show. I think from all I've heard I'd like it.
-
All the best with the kidney stone, Elmore. I empathize all too closely.
-
I'll defer to Laura on the hottest day. Mine was likely in the 112 or 113 range from about 10 years ago.
I think my coldest winter was when I lived in Middletown and there was a whole run of days under -5. I walked to work because the car was frozen over.
-
T.O.D.
It's been pretty hot here in Austin these past couple of weeks. We can only water once per week, which means out grass is turning brown.
:(

I am currently working with 3 terrific performers, juggling audio productions of my one-person plays on Spencer Tracy, Carole Lombard and Basil Rathbone.
I'm also searching for music and sound effects to enhance these radio drama-like productions.
I'm certainly enjoying wearing my director's hat again.
-
No-pain vibes to elmore!!!
-
Congrats to MR BK DR RYACKO and Mr Alby P on their successful show!
-
Have fun today DR GEORGE....that sounds like a nice tribute!
-
My pump is out and I am free of appointments and accoutrement until September 5....feeling very tired.....but it's not too bad. No real side effects as yet, so hopeful there won't be any.
-
TOD:
High - probably about 104....
Low - with wind chill about -40 or so with snow!

I'm suddenly reminded of my last dream, something badly futuristic, relating to how recordings of music were stored and I was just now noticing. All digital, of course, but you couldn't even tell one thing from another. Horrible. Glad to be awake.

Thank you DR TCB. Are you feeling better today?

With the wind-chill factor the coldest weather I walked in was -40 degrees. I would not do that today, and certainly not for 2 hours ;D

DR Jrand, vibes that tired but not too bad is your worse side effect!

Saturday morning greetings! The downstairs Palmers and the upstairs Palmers are all enjoying a quiet Saturday. Richard and I went to Kroger last night and our fridge now looks much healthier than it did a couple of days ago. We replaced the mayo-laden salads from the funeral luncheon with lots of fresh fruit.
-
Enjoy a relaxing, healthy weekend. You deserve it.
-
Big DITTO to that.

Good morning.

TOD:
Hottest: 122F - at home
Coldest: probably about 17F - when I was at my sister's house in Maine after her surgery.
-
TOD:
I think I've been in Palm Springs and Visalia when it was about 118. And I've been in Chicago when it was below 0, but I don't know exactly how much below.
Where I've been living (in Thousand Oaks), the max temp was 105 and lowest it got at night was 26. After that frost, all my impatiens were dead in the morning and my hibiscus had frost-bitten leaves.
-
TOD - You would think the coldest would be sometime when I lived in Michigan, but it actually was here in Middletown, OH, maybe at the same time DR John G remembers. January 10, 1982, the day the Cincinnati Bengals played the "Freezer Bowl," a game we were smart enough to watch on TV. Air temp was -9, with wind chills of -37. It was also pretty cold in Delafield, WI, when I went with Richard to his seminary in January of 2008.
Hottest, of course, was in Phoenix when we visited Mom several times during the summer. I don't remember exact temps, but I do remember that we had to wait until it cooled off in the evenings to go swimming. We actually were waiting until her pool was shaded so that our (then) blond little boy didn't burn to a crisp.
Most uncomfortable, though, was New Orleans in late June when I was there for the 1993 ALA Annual Conference. I thought I was tough after a couple of Phoenix summers, but adding the humidity to the high temps made me think I was going to die.

Hello!

Thanks for the congrats on my (very modest) milestone!

I wish I had known you back then. You could have gone on the beautiful Bayou tour with me. I think I was the only non-librarian on it.
I did the tour early in the morning, another morning I experienced my one and only ALA, and another morning I took the street car to Tulane and the park/zoo across the street from the school. The rest of the day until I walked, and walked, and walked. Somehow I managed not to pass out from exhaustion. I did sit for lunch on one of the days to take a break from the rain.

It was a couple of years later, but just as disgusting.

Back from stuff.
-
I rested/worked and did laundry all morning, very exciting. I desperately need a walk.
-
I really wanted to swim the morning after we returned, which should have been on Thursday. I don't enjoy swimming at the pool on the weekend. I like to go when it is empty and there is room for me to swim laps.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
Glad to hear the good report on the Yacko act and a relatively easy drive home.
-
Continued vibes to Jrand. How nice to have a break for a few weeks! You've certainly earned it.
-
Feel-better vibes to DRs Elmore and TCB, as well stay-well vibes to DC Nicky.

TOD:
-20 degrees with a wind (don't know the wind-chill) at the University of Wisconsin
and
-20 degrees in Alexandria, VA.
+110 degrees at Desert Hot Springs (near Palm Springs)
-
As for New Orleans, I was there once in May or June, horrible humidity, plus a garbage strike.
Heat+humidity+ STENCH!!
-
Our washer and dryer are still waiting for service. Several years ago the company that supplies them decided to replace vs repair and it took them THREE WEEKS to do so, They keep saying it'd just be a couple days. I like to do laundry every week and keep up-to-date. It looks like there'll be more trips to the laundromat in my future.
-
I've been doing more cleaning and tossing. No word on when the inspection will be. If they'd tell us then I could try to schedule my medical appointments around the inspection. But since they aren't very organized, I have no choice to book my appointments. Few of these are easy to reschedule.

Britbox has brought back PRIME SUSPECT, which aired on PBS in the 1990s. I watched an episode last night. It was riveting the first time through and so far has held up well.
-
More to do.
TTFN.
-
Loved Prime Suspect. Haven't watched in years. Glad to hear at least one holds up.
-
I've had a quiet day. The most exciting part was climbing the ladder to put books away. After my kidney stone anxiety, nothing happened. I do believe there's another coming on and I just wish it would occur and pass. With my luck it will happen when I get on a plane in ten days.

The Helen Mirren series? Loved it. Tonight I am beginning the series Garrow's Law, with Andrew Buchan. I've seen him in Cranford and a few other series. He was really wonderful in Broadchurch as the father of the murdered boy.

Thanks DR JANE and DR JEANNE!

DR Jeanne have you inquired about your rights as to advanced notification on the inspection?

Yes, the one with Helen Mirren.
I loved GARROW'S LAW. Buchan was indeed very good in BROADCHURCH. He's wonderful in this.
-
DR Jeanne have you inquired about your rights as to advanced notification on the inspection?
Yes. I read that California law says they must give us 24 hours. The manager said 48 or more. But when it comes to medical appointments that just isn't enough. I don't think these people have thought things through.
-
Has anyone heard from Dan M?

Well, a bunch of us plus some other people met this morning. I'm really sorry, but I didn't even think about taking pictures. Anyway, a friend not in the cast brought her guitar and accompanied us on a couple of songs. Someone had printed lyrics to several other songs, so we didn't just sing one. We also sang "Without Love," also from Hairspray, "Seasons of Love" from Rent, the Beatles' "All You Need Is Love," and a other song that I can't remember anymore. ::)
-
Several people walking by stopped to listen and looked like they enjoyed it. We didn't have signs of any kind, so I would think that people just thought that we were a bunch of singers, which essentially we were. We were there for about an hour, then we hugged our good-byes, then went out separate ways.
-
I went to Subway for lunch, then came home. I forgot that I actually wanted to go to Best Buy and get some blank dual-layer DVDs. Fred Meyer didn't have any and I want to burn some programs that I downloaded onto my computer that someone else had created, and they formatted them for the larger capacity DVDs. So, I need to go out again soon.
-
Have fun today DR GEORGE....that sounds like a nice tribute!
Thanks, Jrand! I think it was. :)

~~~Vibes for No Kidney Stones Problems!!~~
And now, I'm off to Best Buy, or some other place if they don't have what I need.
Until later.
I think it is nice you didn't have signs, the emotion of the songs should be enough.
Page three? Really?
-
Betting on Zero booklets are signed - very nice chap, Pete Anthony. I had some rice pudding.
-
Good evening, all.
-
My sister Annaliese came to town and we had a nice day together.
-
She found a paper saying Dad had been in the Reserves. It's on no other document about his service. She's going to research it more.
-
I recycled several shelves of ancient textbooks.
-
I also found a few more books to take back, not that I need any more books.
-
Where is everyone tonight?
-
I promise I won't play any guessing games.
-
Let's move on...
-
Four!
-
Page four? Really?
My sister Annaliese came to town and we had a nice day together.
Nice.
George, I'm glad your group went out and sang today. A little love is what we need right now.
Hi, Jane. Are you glad to be home?
-
Hello, 0 guests!
-
What's your favorite shade of green?
-
Celedon, anyone?
-
Olive?
Chartreuse?
Does anybody care?
Gratuitous post No. 101!
Tired.
That's interesting. Tomorrow is my dad's birthday. He was in the army but not in the Reserves.
Thanks, John. It was also fun to reconnect with castmates and chat a bit.
Well, I went to the Best Buy at the Capital Mall on the west side Olympia to see if they had dual-layer DVDs in stock, and they didn't. Darn. :-\
-
I then walked around the mall to see if any other store even sold blank DVDs, and I didn't find any that did. So, I went to Target, which is right next to the Capital Mall, and they didn't have any, either. :(
-
Then while sitting in the Target parking lot, I got on my phone and looked on Best Buy's website to see if the Hawk's Prairie store had any. Their website indicated that there were some in stock, so I hurried out to Lacey!
-
I found where they were in the store and they only had one in stock...but they had it! ;D
-
Whew!
-
That's all I needed, because they only come in towers of 50 discs.
-
I bought it, came home, ate the other half of my Subway sandwich from earlier today, and now am happily burning the first of three DVDs on my newly acquired dual-layer DVDs!
-
And now, all three discs are done.
-
Just had to share.
-
Page four? Really?
-
REALLY?
-
Finished with my viewing. Listened to another Ellington classic - Piano in the Background - and then it went to directly to Elgar and his variations on an original theme - wonderful music especially the famous Enigma Variation. That's the pleasure sometimes, just having something start playing and you become entranced by it.
-
Had the last of the Freshly meals - pasta and sausage - it was good - and some popcorn. Too much food, but I'll be a very good boy tomorrow.
-
Must put the motor car away soon.
-
Robert Yacko called and said he found his true footing tonight and the audience really loved it and he finally had fun rather than worrying about things. That was basically what all of last night's notes were about - how to energize the beginning of each new patter section - but the note that did the trick was the one about the act being like a first date. That really hit home with him and made all the difference. Alby also e-mailed me to tell me it finally went exactly as it should - very few fumfers, lots o' laughs. Lucie Arnaz was in attendance, too, and said she loved it.
The show was spectacukar. The acting, the singing, the sets...
If anyone is young to be in Arlington VA between niw and Octiber I urge yo to see this production
-
There will be phoygraphiic evidence of some of our ventures but the hotel wifi is slow and so far my attempts to upload pictures have been unsuccesful
-
The only sour spot was that the hotel gated parking lot was full when we gir back. Since I paid $20 a day to park I was somewhat irked by this development
-
The desk manager told me that since it was after9 pm on Saturday that streetbpaki g was legal and free through Sunday evening
-
I found a spot right across the street from the hotel but I am less than thrilled with the arrangement
-
I was promised the parking fee would be removed from my bill
-
Well I have a long drive ahead of me in the morning
-
I'll try and catch up tomorrow night BF if you dint see me here until Monday don't be surprised
-
Vibes to all
Hi, Jane. Are you glad to be home?
Oh yes. It was a very nice trip which would have been more enjoyable had we not worried if we would make it home with our car.
No.
I like it.
That's great! The Washington Center just got some new hearing devices last year and they're pretty popular.
