And I ended my evening with last night's 30 ROCK. A couple of pretty funny moments but a lot of filler that wasn't funny.

If this show beats MODERN FAMILY (or GLEE) for Best Comedy Series this year, there is NO justice at all at the Emmys.

Got nothing in the mail review-wise today, so looks like I'm on-track for my Criterion weekend. I'll be getting to the Blu-ray of HUNGER tomorrow at some point, probably tomorrow night.

Matt, I'm kind of surprised you're not watching the Opening Ceremony.  Are you taping or not interested?

These effects they're doing with the whales, etc. are very impressive. Beats the hell out of our chrome pickup trucks (which I also loved...)

I edited the film for the US bid for the 1996 Olympics. It was great to be involved--there were only a few of us who made the film. We mixed it out at Skywalker Ranch, the second film I'd mixed out there. That is an amazing place to work.

The HD broadcast looks fantastic, but the sound sucks, for some reason.

Not interested. I haven't watched an opening ceremony since 1980. Men's and ladies' figure skating is all I care about.

Well, I was up WAY too late last night, so I'm going to head downstairs now and go to bed!

Good night!

That's cool.  Do you like pairs figure skating at all?  It starts on Sunday

I love the opening ceremonies. I went to the closing ceremonies in Atlanta, but had I know Bill Irwin was performing in the opening ceremonies I would have been there, too!

Got home about half an hour ago from a rather embarrassing local theatrical production.  I've now joined Richard to watch the Olympics opening ceremony and wish I'd been here for the whole thing.

I met Chris at Arties (where's PennyO they keep asking me!) around 6:30 and then we headed up to 86th Street yo see THE HIDDEN SKY, a new musical based on a story by Ursula K Le Guin, "The Masters." My friend Peter Foley wrote the music and lyrics, and the book was by the show's director Kate Chisholm. The cast was very good and the singing was excellent. I liked the band, although I think the orchestrations for the 8-piece ensemble sounded muffled - if there was a horn back there I never heard it! - behind the scenery. Some of the arrangements were quite beautiful and colorful, but the most moving section of the score for me was Ben Gunderson's beautiful Act Two solo, accompanied only by the piano.

That new version of "We Are the World"... A Travesty. A true travesty.  If you have to get singers who need to be auto-tuned, then they should not have been asked to sing on it in the first place.  -And the video syncing with Janet Jackson was laughable and sad.

Back from the book fair.  These things drain me - so much to see.  I talked to several dealer pals, saw lots of way overpriced books, and hung out for a little over three hours.

DR Jose - I was still at Ruthless-The Musical! and missed "We Are the World," but Richard totally agrees with you.

Hi HHW'ers.  It's been an interesting 36 hours or so.  Long of the short of it is, my Grandmother had a stroke yesterday.  She's in the hospital where they are taking good care of her.  She goes in and out of knowing who you are and responding correctly to questions, etc.  This evening, she ate some dinner.  They are keeping an eye on the bleeding in her brain.  The CT scan tomorrow should tell us more.  She called my mom by name today, which was  a big deal, and when Fr Michael (my boss) came and gave her a blessing, she made the sign of the cross with him.  So, we are hopeful.  She's a very special woman in my life, and as long as she is not in any pain, we are so glad she is still with us.  Oh, she's 93 and 1/2.

Other than that, life is great.
