Well, you've read the notes, the notes were Eastery, and now it is time for you to post until the Easter cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: APOTROPAIC!
-
Good morning to all.
And a happy Easter to all those who celebrate it.
-
I looked this up. The actor who played Cliff might have been Ken Kercheval. He later became famous for playing Cliff Barnes on Dallas.
-
Good morning, all! I never liked the Easter holiday much: too much blood, scourging, torture, stabbings, nailings, etc. and I wil never - lapsed Christian that I am (I hate to use the term Christian these days since so many Fascists and morons use it to describe themselves) - understand this whole theory of He died for us; He died because they killed him, and rather brutally at that. This is where theology, mythology, and I part company, although I'm aware that other religions have their resurrection stories as well. I have no problems with angels and shepherds, but I'm a little freaked over the theory of the Easter side of things. Maybe it's the concept of gifts with the angels and shepherds.
What I did like about Easter was the family dinner at our house with as many of my mother's siblings to whom she was at that tme speaking: it was always a huge baked ham, deviled eggs, scalloped potatoes, green beans, and whatever foodstuffs my mother's family brought along.
So, today, first thing, I have a trip to Kinko's to pick up those three bound scores. Following that, at some point, I have a conversation with the Man from Philadelphia. My biggest fear is that ou possible office has fallen through, so I could use some office vibes today, DRs. He also wants to talk about ROBERTA, and I'm not certain what that means.
That's my day.
More coffee!
Meds.
-
Office vibes to elmore!!!
-
More vibes to vixmom and vixter and family
-
And... I'm up. Wayyyy to early. I have a 7:00am service to do (only on Easter!!) - but I woke up at 4:30am and can't get back to sleep, so here I am. 4 services today and then dinner at moms. Somewhere in there, I have to make a trifle, and I just realized we are out of eggs. It's going to be a LONG day.

Thanks, Mike. I'm not going to find time to watch the whole movie this weekend, so that was fun.

Happy Easter!
I thought of the movie "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" yesterday as it related to my trip to Buffalo. When I fly out of Baltimore/Washington Aiport, I usually drive. But this time, I'll be going to NYC and then back to Washington National Airport.
So I took a bus (5 minute ride) to the Washington Metro (subway). Took Metro to Union Station. Took an Amtrak train (destination Boston) to the BWI airport station. Took the shuttle bus to the terminal. Flew to Buffalo. Got picked up by my brother. And It only took about 6 hours.
-
Good to hear TCB's news!
-
Vibes for DR vixmom's mom.
-
I started reading a little book called "Album Produced By." I'm enjoying it very much!
-
Enjoyed DR George's review on amazon.com!
-
BK--thanks for the info on Dr. Hook. I'm just sorry that Peter gets all the good songs. Well, the title of the show IS "Peter Pan" after all.

I may be going to a Noel Coward event at the NYPL. It all depends onwhatever fresh hell occurs tomorrow.
-
I've been to Kinko's; the scores look great. I'll paste on the Act One labels and get them ready to ship tomorrow.
I also got three more Act Two scores from the copyist for DEAREST ENEMY, so I'll check them out as well
-
I started watching Thor in 3D on TV but after fast forwarding some of it I soon gave up. I get so fed up with all these emotion-lacking CGI fantasy films.

The lamb's leg is about to go in the oven.

I finished BK's book last night.
It's a good, entertaining read. I learned a lot about the music business.

Office vibes for DR ELMORE.
Most excellent video link last night from MR BK.
-
DR JMK perhaps you should consider Seder Sippy Cups.
-
Maybe Miss Joanie Sommers would like to be a guest in a Kritzerland show.
-
Maybe Donny Osmond would like to be a guest in a Kritzerland show.

Love my fellow Buffalonian, Joanie Sommers!

Hey, Kevin, my friend Alex in Middlesbrough met Brent, years ago. We were discussing Dance A Little Closer (Close a Little Faster) and I mentioned his wonderful duet in the show. She said
"Did I tell you I met Brent Barrett? When I went to see Grand Hotel I took recording equipment and did an interview for BBC..Lovely chap.. His dressing room was like a Turkish bordello... velvet drapes and cigarette smoke( or maybe it wasnt cigarette) and a beautiful boy hovering... Very glam He was very nice to interview."

From DR Jennifer:
Those kids really do well at the holidays. Because they get stuff for every religion, every holiday!
It was the same for me growing up & again for my children. :)
-
From DR Jennifer:
I would like to finish the ebook i'm reading tonight. I am at 90% i think. I wish they did pages too for ebooks. I like to know what page i'm on.
With my Nook I know what page I'm on.
-
One service down, one to go.
-
Happy whichever Holiday you may or may not celebrate.
-
I'm up, thanks to my darling neighbors who have company and are all on their patio speaking nice and loud. I could have slept till noon I think, but noooo.
-
Sadly, none of us know where Joanie Sommers is. Nick Redman and I had lunch with her about five years ago, but she's moved again and we haven't been successful in tracking her down. She wasn't doing well last we saw her.

I finished BK's book last night.
It's a good, entertaining read. I learned a lot about the music business.
I'm reading it now & also learning a lot. :)
-
DR Jennifer now you have me keeping track of how many books I read in a week. Last week it was three books, about half a book shy of the week before. One of the books was over 800 pages.
-
The three books were all from the eBook library. I got lucky & the first of the 4 books I expected to be available yesterday waited until this morning so I was able to begin Produced By...... :)
-
Sadly, none of us know where Joanie Sommers is. Nick Redman and I had lunch with her about five years ago, but she's moved again and we haven't been successful in tracking her down. She wasn't doing well last we saw her.
Distressing news.

How are you keeping track? On goodreads? It really does everything for you.
-
I am reading a book now called ARTICLE 5 By Kristen Simmons (It is a dystopian book).
-
I have BK's new book on my kindle, but have not started it yet. I just finished my net galley book which I have to review. It is called Mr. Broadway. It is the story of Jerry Schoenfeld (of the Shubert organization). One thing which i found a little confusing is that the book was not completely chronological. I get why he did it - he told all the stories about one person in the same chapter. Is this how it is commonly done? It was a very interesting read though if you like theatre.
-
Hmmmm.....a NOT exhaustive search on the inner web seems to indicate that Miss Sommers moved to Buffalo NY - her home town.....but to get an address or phone number costs $2.
-
the thing about net galley is you have to send your review to the publisher.
-
I spy DR Vixmom Hope you are doing okay.
-
Good morming - we have had our own little Easter miracle - Mom is doing much better - she is being moved out of the ICU into a regular room tomorrow if things continue in this vein - thank you for the vibes and the prayers!
Oh and for all who asked : "Helene"
thank you!!!
:-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

Not sure what is up with my library. They have tons of books (some of which have been put aside for two months) waiting for the FAST READS section. They assure me this will happen in less than two weeks.
-
That is great news DR Vixmom. I know a lot of us were very worried.
-
Continued library rant. the 20+new dvds they got have been sitting in binding for two weeks. They usually come out of binding in one day. And there are five sequels of books they have that came out a month ago(and were suggested many months ago)... ad noneof them are in the system yet. All very bizarre happenings.
-
No Easter eggs for me. But I did have a Passover chocolate bar that was pretty good.
-
gotta go mnow - I am supposed o nbe at a dinner 15 miles form here right now
-
DR Jane I wonder if any kindles can do page counts.
-
HappY Easter
Happy Passover
Happy Day
-
Great news, Vixmom.

Well, there may be 18 or 20 over in a few hours. It keeps growing, and I could care less. The house is clean and there will be plenty to eat. And if there isn't, there's plenty of wine to make you forget.

I'm leaving the books on my Nook in the top left corner & starting over each Sunday. It is more complicated to count when I read half a book at the beginning of the week & 3/4th of a book at the end-hey I'm trying to be acurate ;)

Wonderful news, DR Vixmom! In the absence of her first name, I put YOU on our prayer list and Fr. Richard included "Vix Grandmother" in today's liturgy.

We got home from Lima about 1:30, plenty of time to get some last-minute things done and now have some time to chill before the guests arrive.
-
Thanks for the update DR VIXMOM.

DR ELMORE did you send me that link to the Library of Congress National Jukebox? There are lots of interesting recordings there.

I might have, DR JRand61! I have a vague memory, though, that another DR - perhaps JMK? - posted a link to the site on HHW.
DR vixmom, good news about your mother! Fantastic.
I'm essentially killing time and waiting for the Man from Philadelphia to call. I do hope the news on the office situation isn't disastrous. Keep them vibes coming!
I've packed up the full scores, had some lunch, addressed some ROBERTA issues, and proofread Victor Herbert's overture to THE ONLY GIRL. I'm ready for a nap.

Maybe Donny Osmond would like to be a guest in a Kritzerland show.
Laura, did you see Donny and Marie on The Rosie Show late last year (before it was cancelled, of course)? I have quite a few episodes of her show still to be watched on my DVR and I noticed that that was one of them. If you're interested, just let me know and I could very easily make a DVD of it for you. :)
-
And now, I need to take a shower, get dressed and go to my sister's to make vegan frosting for vegan cupcakes to be brought to our parents' house for Easter. They're actually quite good.
Be back later!
-
Vegan cupcakes? So you leave the meat out of them?
-
I stopped by the little City of Studio farmer's market - I haven't done so in over four years and I remember why - there is an attitude in Studio City that I cannot stomach, most of which comes from parents with small children - they reek of attitude - it's all about them and it's like no one else has ever had a child before them - these people think they know what "parenting" is and they are raising (with some exceptions, of course) the most entitled generation of youngsters in history. Thankfully, I will be too old to give a flying Wallenda when these kids reach their teen years. And good luck to the parents. That's the ultimate comeuppance every one of these parents will get for their doing what they're doing.
I was driving up the street to the east of me - maybe going ten miles an hour and some dad starts waving his arms at me frantically to SLOW DOWN. To what? Zero? The speed limit in our neighborhood is thirty-five last I checked. There are times when I really want to stop, get out of my car, and just scream at these idiots that they have ruined what was once the most quaint and wonderful neighborhood ever - naturally, this waving idiot lived in a McMansion of dubious design. I just smiled and waved back. Next time he does it, he will not be so lucky, but it's all of the parents in this neighborhood. Amusingly, their children were in the house when he was doing all the frantic waving to someone going ten miles per hour.
-
Hello, everyone.
HAPPY WHATEVER!!
-
I want to be there when this happens.
-
I don't actually celebrate Easter, but today I splurged by having some strawberry preserves on my (gluten-free) rice bread. I really know how to celebrate, don't I?
-
Very glad to hear the good Vixfamily news.

Continued speedy recovery vibes to DR TCB.

Office vibes to DR Elmore.

I finished THE BOOK THIEF last week. Wonderful book.
Is ANY book with a young protagonist labeled Young Adult? Does anyone know?
-
I finished THE BOOK THIEF last week. Wonderful book.

It seems te me that under 18 is almost always labelled YA. Even often a bit older. I do think it might depend on content. If the subject was not suitable for younger readers.

DR Jane if you do not want to review books on goodreads you could still add your books ad mark them as read when you finis. Then you could tell how many books you've read during the year. Plus it gives people looking at your account a more accurate reflection of what you have read.
-
I finished THE BOOK THIEF last week. Wonderful book.
Is ANY book with a young protagonist labeled Young Adult? Does anyone know?
In Australia it was not published as a young adult book. Last week I read an early, YA, book of his called I AM THE MESSENGER. Zusak took The Book Thief to his YA publisher who, after reading it, walked it across the hall to the traditional offices. I'm not sure why this was published as YA in the US.
DR Jennifer knows far more than I do about this subject.

I wasn't sure if DR Jeanne was just talking about this one book or about others. One thing I have found is that there are a lot of YA books now that are not written too young. There are some books that seem more geared for teens. But the majority to me are quite complex and geared for older readers. Especially this new category of dystopia.

I realized I've only been rating the books. Should I click on "currently reading"?

I often compare books with other people on goodreads (there is a button that does this). I always assume it is accurate. Especially for people who have a lot of books in their files like you do. How do you check if you have already ready a book. Or do you keep a list of what you want to read?

Well you will need to switch the books to read. But if you do not put the date you finished or this year it wll not count in your reads for this year.

-
I requested a book on netgalley today that I really really want. Sually it is only 50-50 that you get what you request. Although since I am not a blogger I probably have less of a chance.

I keep two lists on my computer, "Books I have read" and "Books I want to read". I used to carry the want to read list with me at all times, now I use it to find eBooks on line.
-
DR Jane I am not sure if I understood what you meant. Did you want to move books you have read and rated to show you have read them?
Only that I was giving the books I've read ratings without indicating I was reading them. I really haven't spent time exploring Goodreads to know my way around it yet. When I open it I can see what my friends are doing & need to find where is shows what I'm doing.

I added the date read to a few of my books on Goodreads. I seem to be missing most of the ones I read this year. My personal list is alphabetical by the author. I will try to remember to mark the books on Goodreads from now on.

Happy Easter to y'all!
Spending the day with my Mom and my sisters at the hospital. It may be Mom's last day here if her doctor gives the okay to let her go to rehab tomorrow.
-
BK's notes on the original production of CABARET reminded me that Easter weekend was when I saw my first B'way show, PURLIE.

Good news about DR Vixmom's Mom, but continued recovery vibes for her.

Yup...radical idea, I know, but that's the way my sister likes 'em.
;)

I don't know..yet. My sister had me put some raspberry preserves on the tops of the cupcakes before I frosted them with vanilla frosting, but I don't know if there are any specific flavors in the cupcakes themselves. I'll find out a little later. :)
-
I wouldn't like the raspberry preserves. You said they tasted good, did you mean the frosting?
Report later :)
-

The frosting is very good (of course, I made it ;)), but I meant that cupcakes that she's made in the past have been very good, so I am assuming that these will be, too.
She's made cupcakes of various flavors, so I don't know what she chose for this particular batch.
-
And now, it's off to the parents' place.
Have a good rest of the day, all! ;D

Percy Faith has a lovely version of the THEME FROM 'CHINATOWN', which looked for about 5 seconds like it was going to be his first big hit in several years.

Netgalley is a site for bloggers/reviewers/librarians. Where you can get free ebooks in exchange for a review.
The thing is you don't always get accepted.

I just tried calling DR TCB & he didn't answer. I left him a message. Since he is moving tomorrow I might wait until Tuesday to call again.
-
Hi all!
I hope everyone had a wonderful day. So nice to hear that all of the HHW Moms are doing better. :)
Still sending vibes to DR TCB! I'm so happy to hear that he is doing so well. those famous HHW vibes work yet again!
-
Hi DR Danise.
-
Thanks to Craig I'm eating the best matzo ball soup I've ever had.
-
We have 60 MINUTES set to record tonight. I wonder if they managed a special episode tonight. I'm kind of guessing they had one ready to go.
-
Hi DR Jane! ;D
-
DR Jennifer have you read BLUE by Lou Aronica?
-
DR elmore how did your day end?
-
DR Jennifer have you read BLUE by Lou Aronica?
Yes.
-
I had matzah ball soup yesterday.
-
DR Jennifer have you read BLUE by Lou Aronica?
Yes.
I recently read it & thought it might be something you would read. Is it considered a YA dystopian novel? Did you like it?
-
'night
-
We had a nice Easter dinner party with an interesting mix of guests - Rob and Mary Linda and my Mom, of course, along with Richard's brother and his wife, the wife of their late older brother, Rob & ML's friends Alison & Ryan, and our friend Betty. While the party was going on we had phone calls from DNs Laura and Lauren. And now I'm exhausted, trying to stay awake for MAD MEN.
-
We ate our Easter dinner at noon -- deviled eggs. Lots of them.
-
DR Jennifer have you read BLUE by Lou Aronica?
Yes.
I recently read it & thought it might be something you would read. Is it considered a YA dystopian novel? Did you like it?
I liked it okay. I won it on goodreads. It probably would not have been something i would have chosen otherwise. Not really what i read. I do not think I would consider it YA or dystopian. But it has been a while since i read it. I am sure if you look on goodreads it would tell you what category they would put it in. Maybe fantasy.

We had a really good Melody rehearsal, my first chance to see it start to finish with the new material we've added, all of which will work well. My notes today were all detail things, and figuring out what the new patter had to achieve to get us into the new numbers. We added a few funny things today - that's my goal with this show - to make it a little funnier than the previous show. Melody's comedy chops have been incredible in the recent Kritzerland shows and I want to make sure we're showing that side off really well.

We then had supper at the Sherman Oaks Marmalade - and exactly true to my memory, nothing there was as good as the meals I've eaten at other Marmalades - it was all okay, but the other branches are a hundred times better, hence no more Sherman Oaks Marmalade ever.

Well, the last of the guests have left and the bird has been freed from his cage. He's one very happy camper.
The party was great. What I want to know is, how do people eat and eat and eat and I always wind up with more food than when I started?
We had ham and clams and shrimp and too many salads and scalloped potatoes, yams, mashed caulilflower, deviled eggs, relishes for miles, and the desserts: colomba (an Italian Easter bread), almond-amaretto cake, brownies, a raspberry tart, dark chocolate, cheeses ...
And the wines. My favorites were a 1991 Bert Simon Spatlase that was almost like honey in the glass and a dry 2002 Meridean Reserve Pinot Noir.

And with that, good night.

I wouldn't like the raspberry preserves. You said they tasted good, did you mean the frosting?
Report later :)
The frosting is very good (of course, I made it ;)), but I meant that cupcakes that she's made in the past have been very good, so I am assuming that these will be, too.
She's made cupcakes of various flavors, so I don't know what she chose for this particular batch.
No tasting then, just frosting them. OK, what flavor is the frosting?
The frosting was vanilla and the cupcakes turned out to be just vanilla, also.
