I'll be traipsing through the New City of York tomorrow with  the Vixter and my mom.  We three are going to see Little Women on DR Ben' recommedation. (AFTER , of course, the obligatory wander through the American Girl Place)  I swear,I think I know that floorplan better than the architect by now.....

Good Evening!

DR Pogue - Woop Woop is one of my favorites!  When it first started appearing two summers ago, it immediately became very popular.  The demand was so high that individual buyers/stores were trying to buy it right off the ship - instead of through a distributor.  There was even one shipment that got a little too jostled in shipment, and was a little "off" by the time it reached the store shelves.  However, it still sold very well.

Of course, since the demand was so high, the price started going up.  Good ole supply and demand.  I remember buying it for about $8.00 a bottle.  And my roommate was able to get a case for about $5.50 a bottle.  Now, I can't seem to find it for less than $12.00, and on restaurant menus I've seen it marked up as much as $30.00 per bottle!

Woop Woop.  Good stuff!

OH, and DR Jose, did you ever post what your connection is/was to The American Girl Place? Maybe I'll find it when I go catch up, if not, please tell me!! Inquiring minds want to know.

I have been thinking about Penny's and your show all week....I really enjoyed it, and I found the stage portrayal made me rethink some of how I reacted to reaing the book....
some stuff that made me laugh reading made me more wistful and sad when seeing and portrayed

I think DR Jose would be qualified to answer that. My experience of American confectionary is ---------------! Chocolate could not be made LEGALLY in Australia like that.

I like Australian chocolate but The Europeans really know how to make the best.
[/quote

Do you have experience with English Cadbury vs Australian Cadbury?

I agree about European chocolate.  My favorite is Lindt Milk Chocolate from Switzerland.  Unfortunately it is one of the worst food for my acid reflux problem.

Back from dinner with Juliana A. Hansen and her dad.  Since I'd eaten a rather large late lunch, I opted to just have dessert - a delicious cherry pie with crumb topping, a la mode, which we all shared at the end of the meal.

I don't think I ever did post my connection... Basically I assisted in casting their Chicago "company".  Meaning I was the audition pianist for them.  So, they send me passes from time to time.... Which I've never used.  I keep hoping that my brothers will bring their daughters up to NYC one of these days, and then Uncle Jojo can take them through AGP.  One of these days....

Charles, congratulations on your new car.  I also had a pleasant surprise today, ran into our mutual friend and her daughter on the road this afternoon and joined them on their walk.

Keith wanted to name Echo Nestle (the breed is from Switzerland).  Since I didn’t want a dog I got to name her.  Next dog, even thought I don’t want a next dog, is his turn.

George, Barkly is cute and I would spell it that way.

Yes, that's LADY IN A CAGE. It is sordid and quite violent for 1964.

I adored APOLLO 13. I bought the original Collector's Edition release (had it on laserdisc, too) on DVD, but it's another sitting on the shelf waiting to be watched where it's been a couple of years.

I did love the movie, but I watched the laserdisc several times in addition to seeing the film in the theater, so I guess that's why the shrink wrap is still on the DVD.

It lost Best Picture to BRAVEHEART, a terrible injustice to my mind.

We had a lovely dinner out.  Our company, a local gal that now lives in Portland, stayed in town to enjoy the night life with friends.

TCB, Keith would love to open a Jewish Deli here, but we won’t. ;D

Baxter has a new home!!! :D  A look forward to the story when you are rested.

My eyes still burn.  Lights bother them more, including the light on the computer.  I had a difficult time driving to the vet today.  Oh, the test results were okay but we have to increase his fluids a little bit (the fluids we give him by an IV bag).

Goodnight.

As for American vs. Australian vs. European Chocolate - namely Cadbury...

I actually did sort of a side-by-side taste test when I got back from Australia two summers ago.  -Remember my one 17-pound carry-on that only held chocolate?!?!?  ;)  Well...

I think it just comes down to the base ingredients - mainly the sugar and milk.  I could sense the general formulas were adjusted according to local tastes.  However, I could also sense that the Australian products used better milk.  And better sugar.  Things tasted purer, less processed.  Environmental conditions, I guess;less pollution.

Australian and English Cadbury are definitely less sweet than American Cadbury - and almost any American mass-produced chocolate.  And since there's less sugar in their recipes, the chocolate is creamier, has a better mouth feel.  -Of course, there's the Crunchy and Violet Crumble which are chocolate covered "honeycomb" candy bars, and the whole point of those is "sweetness"...  But I digress...

And after reading labels, the English and Australian chocolates use less - if any - preservatives and stabilizers.

So, that's my very unscientific analysis...

Hmmm... Wonder if I can make a run to the corner store...

Enjoyed DEADWOOD. The actor playing Mr. W is, of course, the same actor who played Jack McCall last season. My goodness, doesn't he look spectacular all cleaned up! Can't wait to see lots more of him.

Yep, the kidney stone sequence was squirm-inducing to be sure. Having passed kidney stones several times in my life, I could certainly identity with the excruciating pain. (I quickly add I never had the procedure done to me that poor Al Swearingen had to endure.)

Jose then you think the Australian and English Cadbury taste the same and it is only the American that is different?  Bryan returned home from the Cadbury factory in England with some wonderful samples which did not include the eggs.

RE: Sweet Charity

...I'm wondering if Mr. Simon - Neil Simon - that is, will be making any sort of public statement regarding the shuttering of the production.  Especially in light of some of the crap that was supposedly going on during the rehearsal process...

On a personal note, I know two of the woman in the show.  I hope they get cast in another show sooner rather than later.

The English and Australian Cadbury were VERY close.

Oh.. Cadbury Eggs.... Maybe I should venture over to Brooklyn tomorrow to head to the Chip Shop.  A great veddy-veddy English Fish n' Chips place.  They even do the the fried Mars Bars.. and fried Snickers... And friend Twinkies (with a raspberry coulis!)...  Well...  *And they give you the option of using American or British versions of the candy bars when they differ.

I think they also do deep-fried Cadbury Eggs this time of year... hmmm....

I can already feel the sugar coursing through my veins....

Ooohh...  Lunch?  Dinner between shows?

;)

Oh I would love to , and I really appreciate the offer, but I don't think it will work this trip.  We expect to get in about noon and then the  aforementioned AGP tour, a quick slice of pizza and then a 2:OO o'clock curtain.  After the show I had offered Mom dinner in the city and she said no because she still has all her Easter pie baking to do so we will be zooming out right after the show.

Definitely when you are back in May we  must make a point of meeting up...if not at Anthony's show then sometime.  I need to get the bakery walking tour too!!! Maybe when Jane is in , ifwe can get a group...we'll get you a whistle and a tour guide shirt  "We're walking,  we're walking , we're eating....."

(almost a "Dave" reference)

Well... I'm kind of tired tonight... which is good since I really do want to get up earlier tomorrow.  There are a couple of things I want to get done before the matinee.

One of these things is a proper sit-down breakfast - be it a greasy spoon or something more along the line of Sarabeth's or Popover.

DR Rodzinksi - Know any good breakfast joints in this neck of the woods?

DR elmore - Do you have any plans for tomorrow morning?

OH!  And do you New Yorkers happen to know if everything shuts down on Easter Sunday here in the Big Apple?  In DC and Virginia, it's one of the few holidays where all the stores do close.  Just trying to figure out if I can make a Macy's run before Sunday's matinee.  ;)
