The more I see and hear about what people on the east coast are or have gone through, the more thankful I am every minute that I have not had to go through such a situation, and I also hope that I never will.

It's time to order the Hitchcock set

I've got to get the Hitchcock set sometime as well. In which connection, with all the viewpoints being expressed, I'll repeat what I said somewhere else;

I may read reviews but I never base my buying decisions on them because if it's a favourite film then I will buy it and know that it's going to be an upgrade over the DVD. It particularly annoys me when reviewers say if a title is recommended for a purchase. Thank you... but I don't need someone else to tell me what to buy or what not to buy.  Not that bk does that of course  :)

A neighborhood I drive through every morning on my way to work is still without electricty.  I am reminded of how lucky I was to get through this storm with no hardships.

MEdia Check:

iPad:  I'm going to spend some time this weekend catching up on episodes of ARROW.  A couple of people have been recommending it to me and last night I finally caught the pilot.  Dispite the violence, I'm intrigued enough to give it a go.

I just spoke to my postman: we won't be getting mail and packages until the main post office has its power back. Not great news.

Thank goodness for HHW and for BK's notes.  Without them, I would never have known that today is Friday.  It isn't like I had decided that today was some different day of the week, I really hadn't thought about it one way or another.  But when BK wrote, "Today is Friday....."; I thought to myself, "Self, this can't possibly be Friday.  But it must be true, because BK told me so.."

I believe THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH, must be one of my favorite Alfred Hitchcock films.  The other one is SABOTEUR.

As much as I'm annoyed at The Man Who Knew Too Much's shortcomings, I can tell you it's a huge step up from the previous DVD and that most people will be fine with it.

DR Jennifer, thanks for your comments last night.  I have to say that I'm amazed how relieved I feel after cancelling that trip.  It seemed like every day something else would come up that was a conflict or a problem related to that weekend.

I can imagine the relief you felt cancelling.  When we plan a trip I have learned not to believe it will happen until it does.

TOD:

DVD: Les Girls, something from Ignmar Bergman

CD: Magnificat, a live CD from a local women's a capella singing group performed in one of the missions around the town. The acoustics give the women an ethereal sound.

MP3: Kismet, The Good Companions.

Ingmar Bergman made LES GIRLS?

If you don't know Bergman's LES GIRLS, you don't know film!

The NY Marathon this Sunday is today's bone of contention: there are generators and shelter brought in to keep the runners comfortable while the people in Long Island and Staten Island with no power - in some cases, no shelter or food - are justifiably fraught over this news.

The laundry is finished, my bed completely winterized, and I'm wondering what to tackle next.

DR JohnG, I loved the movie "Eating Raul," but you have no idea how poorly it was executed onstage. It was an ugly, inept production. My whole memory of it now is the dreadful synth orchestrations.

A shame because it seems like it should work well as a play.

Finger's crossed for them!

You are.  I haven't heard from my NJ friends and most of my PA friends are without power.  At least my friend with health issues was one of the first to get her power back.

The fact that it's not done too often, even though the recording is immensely entertaining, was the big clue to me. I think "Evil Dead: The Musical" gets staged more than "Eating Raoul." Then again, the "Evil Dead" movies are cinema landmarks.
