I have to decide in the next few minutes whether to get off the thing upon which I sit and drive out to the Lafayette Theatre to see John Frankenheimer's THE TRAIN in lovely 35mm.  I do need to see it, and it would get the day moving along nicely.

DR vixmom, the gas stove and fireplace (especially the fireplace) are certainly essential and go a long way toward keeping one not only alive but sane.

Up to a point.

With temperatures taking this dip from where we started at the storm, the lack of real heat for any appreciable length of time is something I truly do not know how people deal with.  On Thursday night I had just arranged to jump ship and stay with a friend in a neighboring town, and was contemplating that being my last night trying to get some sleep huddled in a comforter in front of the fireplace, when the power here was mercifully restored.

Whatever else I do today, I'm picking up ROSEMARY'S BABY and will be watching it tonight.

TOD:  I saw a few of the films with Woody (I always like CRIMES AND MISDEMEANORS and HUSBANDS AND WIVES), but honestly don't have a lot of Mia Farrow films in mind besides ROSEMARY'S BABY and THE GREAT GATSBY.

However, I must note that upon glancing through her filmography, that she was in:

HURRICANE.

Greetings from Toyland! All seems good, but we need long florescent lamps. I need to tackle that this week.

DR vixmom, Mia Farrow is not in THE BOY FRIEND. Twiggy is.

Glad to hear all's well at Toyland, DR Elmore.  How was the commute?

I stand by my statement,  my favorite Mia Farrow movie is The Boyfriend

in the spirit of the election season I will not let the facts get in the way of my pronouncements

TOD:

Truth be told none of these actors kick me in the butt.  Other than Rosemary's Baby and Harold & Maude Ica't think of anything else, I've ever seen Ruth Gordon in (and I'm not that sure I've ever seen H&M, maybe part of it on TV).  Mia Farrow has never compelled me and has absolutely no sex.  Cassavettes I liked in the Dirty Dozen and The Killers, but beyond that, though I know I've seen him in other stuff, nothing sticks out.

I'm pretty much in agreement.  I've never really been a fan of any of these performers.

I do enjoy THE PURPLE ROSE OF CAIRO, but that's because I like Woody Allen's films.

The subways still do not run below 34th Street, so I walked down from there.. I'll take the bus back uptown and see how grisly that trip is.

Here's the recipe, Vixmom. I was thinking, Jane, if you did a vegetarian version of this, mushrooms might be really good in the mix.

Took an abbreviated walk around the basement and now I'm ready for the Michigan/Minnesota kick-off - Go, Blue!

Two tiramisus made. One with peach, almond and amaretto, which is really pretty. And one with blueberries and coconut, which is rather messy. Should taste good, but isn't the most appetizing-looking dish ever.

Now, time to get ready for Austin.

I'm up, I'm up.  I got up about six minutes before she of the Evil Eye arrived.  I'll jog shortly.

Blew it.  I was a whole hour off in my thinking (perhaps in tribute to tonight's time change), so didn't make it out to see the movie this morning.

I never know when it is, especially since they changed both the spring and fall dates a couple of years back.  But this is it.

And I am home and not particularly looking forward to going down again until transportation is in better shape. Because there is no subway below 34th Street, the uptown buses are packed with people.  I ended up, after too few packed buses passed by, getting a taxi to 42nd Street and catching the 104 bus from there.

Cat Freddy has asked me to go and buy him some cat food and kitty litter, so I'd best do that now.
