When Bryan was little & we lived in Reseda there was a family pizza restaurant in the Valley that had a very large, and I mean large, organ.  MusicGuy do you know the restaurant I’m talking about?

One of my faves of the theater organ variety is Al Melgard. And he has a great LP playing on the organ at the old Chicago Stadium, but I couldnt find it just now. Of pop organists, my favorite is the rather square Ken Griffin. Probably have everything he ever did. Just dig the sound. Here's my favorite Griffin cover, I think this is a release from after his lifetime, but this cover, if you look at it, has a lot of subtext...

Oh Great, to transfer my free plane ticket to my nephew I have to go in person to a United Ticket Counter. Well that's either 90 miles to the south or 80 miles to the north.  Guess I know what I'm doing this weekend....that's ok. It will be more than worth it. He is very excited and so am I.

Who is making me the Peanut Butter Pie?

I shall now be on my way to Mr. David Wechter's 50th birthday partay, after which I shall return.

You are a nice aunt.

The joke of the weekend was that my sister played Auntie Mame (she was Mame in Mame in high school and college) but I live it.

DR Rodzinski, I thought of you today as I was at the Union Gospel Mission Store...they had tons of old LPs and I spotted a Julie London that was quite enticing and a funny local LP from the late 60s called Ben Kelley's Oregon Chorus or something like that...lots of very late 60s guys and gals on the cover and doing songs like Moon River, etc. That one I almost picked up just so I could get it converted to CD...it looked like fun!

That's awesome musicguy! I have quite a few organ albums, but I'm sure just a tiny percentage of what is out there....

My favorite, and quite possibly my only organ album, is Rupert Otto playing University of Michigan Songs on Ann Arbor's Michigan Theatre Barton Pipe Organ.

Well, I ate several things that I shouldn't have and think I had best take Dog Bosco for a walk so that we can both get a bit of exercise.

In honor of Ben and Ant's recent anniversary, here is a photo Ant recently sent me of when they came up to our neighborhood a couple months back. This is at the Cloisters, which Project Runway viewers will recognize because Tim does a little promo spot up here.

We're having a potluck baby shower for a co-worker on Friday and I can't decide which pie to make - peanut butter or chocolate ice cream.  I like the fact that each recipe makes 2 pies - one to take and one to leave home for my family to enjoy.

Which one would transport best, DR Cillaliz?  I do have a cooler and  ice packs.

Ginny, you will love the Cloisters. It has the best views in all of Manhattan. Plus it is right by our place! And the museum with the Unicorn Tapestries is excellent.

It so happens I have another George Wright album. It says he played at the NY Paramount until heading to Hollywood to work in TV.

And here's the Melgard LP I mentioned earlier. This organ was so vast, they couldn't remove it when they tore down the Stadium. It just got torn down with the building. I can remember at Blackhawks games, when the team scored a goal, they'd hit the lowest few notes, and the whole building would shake.

Hmmm I don't know the answer to that.  We only transport them from the kitchen to the dining room.  Probably the peanut butter. It has cream cheese, but no ice cream. They are both very rich. One thing my mother does is serves a small sliver of each.

I"ll never forget as a kid when my mother walked in late from some group she was in. She said "Sorry I'm late, Mr. Beboe wanted me to stop by and try out his organ"  She couldn't figure out why we were doubled over in laughter.

She was the accompanist for the group and we all knew Mr. Beboe just got a new organ at his house, but she had no idea what she had just said

Yes, the Truman Capote Biography program did indeed mention his homosexuality, throughout the program, in fact.
