One more post, for the topic of the day.  I have pictures of camping trips from 1955 to 2002.  Best times ever, although now I just want to stay in a nice hotel.

My boss likes to climb mountains, in Africa, Argentina, etc.  It takes months to get your body ready, really scary when your hands swell up from the altitude.

TOD:

I have fond memories of many camping trips when I was little through southern California and the southwest.  Later, growing up, I camped with the Scouts.  I'm sorry to say that as an adult, the idea of camping has lost its thrill for me.  But for those that enjoy it, more power to 'em!

When I younger I used go on canoe/camping in Northern Quebec in many of the provincial parks that are there. It is the scenery that was my favorite

Today's camping experience is pitching a tent in a camp ground, and the then use the pool and go out to eat,

Busy day yesterday.

I worked at my paying job for 9-6

and then went home and wrote for the next

BRUCE KIMMEL MOMENT. MY ITUNES DJ IS NOW PLAYING LET 'EM CAKE

six hours with a 90 minute break to do food shopping and what turned out to include 60 minutes of television watching which I rarely do now, but I watched a new episode of THE CLOSER

What a funny well written episode and a great guest actor. Only comment I have is that the preview ruined one of the best jokes of the episodes. I have to admit if I didn't know it was coming I would not have seen it coming.

This was the first time I have seen an episode of The Closer from start to finish it. I have only seen it if I happen to be channel surfing

I have to admit that TNT, USA & TBS with their combination of reruns and original programming are my favorite channels to watch

Good morning, all. I have to get out the crutches this morning, pray I can see my doctor today or tomorrow, and hope that this condition, which I recall lasted several months in 2004, passes quickly. As of around 3 am, which is when the pain woke me, I can hardly walk on my left foot, which doesn't want to bear my weight, so I need the crutches for a while.

I have to get to the pharmacy for some meds this morning so I'll take a taxi down to Amsterdam and 68th. I also need to contact my co-workers on Life Begins At 8:40 and Babes In Toyland that this will put a major glitch in my schedule this week. Around 6:45 this morning, I spoke to the wonderful paralegal Geri on the McGlinnventory and cancelled the week.

TOD - I have great memories of camping trips with my parents, one to northern Michigan and the other to Mt. Desert Island, Maine.  Now that I'm the grown-up, though, camping sounds a lot like staying home and having to do the cooking, housekeeping, and personal grooming with out modern conveniences.  My idea of roughing it these days is staying in a hotel that doesn't provide a complimentary breakfast.

Yesterday I arrived at the theatre at 5:30....and there was no one in the box office selling tickets.  They are supposed to open at 5 so there were some mad people there.

I opened the box office...took care of them...all exchanges of course, no cash money.  Ran to the back to unload my car and set up for my rehearsal.  Listened for the phone.

My table was gone and all of my stuff was on the floor....the director of ARSENIC AND OLD LACE had decided he needed my table for his auditions in the theatre.  My rehearsal dry erase board and easel were also there....

I finally got the person on the phone who was supposed to be there and they arrived at almost six o'clock.....I got everything into the rehearsal space and my chairs set up.

I auditioned.....started my rehearsal....six people were LATE.....two people who had been on vacation had to be instructed in what they had missed....the horse and the burro had forgotten their dance.....everyone was noisy.

All this just to say that I lost my temper last night and finally said:  "Would you all just shut and be quiet?  It is impossible to work with everyone talking....."

TOD:

I love hiking and camping!  In high school in college I would often go out to explore the Jersey Pine Barrens with friends on day or overnight trips (though for the most part, it was mostly for the purpose of getting high or other activities.)  In my 20s and 30s, I still went out, but it became more about getting a break from work and appreciating the beauty of nature.  My favorite trips were more adventerous ones to places like Eno River in NC, where we had to portage our way to the camp grounds.  So amazingly wonderful to be so far away from city lights and highway noises.  Loved it!

I guess as my friends and I got older and began to have family responsiblities and living in houses that required weekend work, we had less and less time to take those trips into the woods.  I miss it a lot.

Of course, I'm up and on the forum earlier than usual due to my eye doctor appointment at 10:15. Naturally, I am ready to leave now so I am basically killing time until I need to leave to get to the doctor's office. (About a 12 minute drive).

I am expecting THE TOWERING INFERNO on Blu-ray this week, and hopefully it will come today so I can work on it this afternoon and evening. It's a long film (too long but with that many stars in the cast, I guess each required some time for their own storylines to play out), so it'd likely take me most of the afternoon just to watch it, and then there are a couple of commentaries.

I doubt any new bonus material has been added, so I only need to check to see if it's been ported over in SD or upconverted to HD. That won't take very long.

bk,

If you have not investigated PLANET EARTH on Blu-ray, you really must. The episodes are only an hour long and never wear out their welcome, and yet each one is filled with so many stupendous visual treats that you'll eagerly revisit them making the set well worth the investment.

After finishing the entire set, I was left with such an overpowering respect for our planet and the amount of life it sustains, both plant and animal, and PLANET EARTH touches on every aspect of it with breathtaking visual imagery.

DR JRand - I would have used an expletive to quiet the crowd.  And, in fact, I have.  And I was just the sub pianist for the evening. But after sitting at the piano for 45 minutes waiting for the director, the choreographer, the conductor, the cast and the technical director to stop "chatting", I finally just "said", "Would you just shut the F*CK up!?!?".

Needless to say, that did the trick.  And the assistant director thanked me for getting things back to some semblance of order.  ;)

I just found an attempted delivery slip from FedEx on my front door.  I've been sitting here working all morning; if they'd just taken the trouble to - oh, I don't know - KNOCK or RING THE BELL?  Zach would definitely have let me know that they were there!  It's not earth-shaking, but it's certainly annoying.         >:(

Congrats to Laura and sis, vibes to those who need them.

Oy, did I have a little new coffee grinder adventure this morning.  My old grinder broke last week--it actually ground up the little plastic tabs that were inside the bowl, something I didn't realize until I tasted my coffee and it was like drinking ground plastic.  :)  So I got a neat new Black and Decker, which has a lid with a long tab you press to make the grinder start.  Today I pressed it, then started to take the lid off, and the grinder didn't stop!  So the damned thing spewed coffee grounds all over the kitchen.  What a mess.  But the kitchen sure smells good.  :)

Grumble, grumble....

It's a little package from Japan, based on bk's recommendation.

I had a package here at work waiting for me...the complete series, "Slings & Arrows." :D

I got NO mail of any kind today at all. My mom used to tell me to be glad when that happened because it meant there were no bills to pay, but I'd take the bills if SOMETHING else of interest was in the mailbox. Alas, nothing.

And UPS deliveries either, so if I end up reviewing THE TOWERING INFERNO, it will be after street date.

Well, since BRUNO seems to be everywhere and dividing the gay community:

BRUNO'S BUSTIN' OUT ALL OVER

(verse)

Ali G left us cryin’
With tears of laughter in his day
Then Borat came and did the same
He gave us nothin’ bad to say

Pirelli proved that Mr. Cohen
Could give the theater queens a star
But now we feel so dissed and moan
‘Cause Sasha’s gone way way too far

He's becoming real dumb
You can hear him come
You can feel it in your heart
You can feel it in your bum
You can see he loves the flack
As he’s settin’ causes back

Look around!  Look around! Look around!

(chorus)

Bruno’s bustin’ out all over
The grosses proclaim that he’s a gem
He’s the freelance fashioneesta
Who’s been pushin’ his bare keesta
Into places like the face of Eminem

Bruno’s bustin’ out all over
All over the web and the TV
When I turn I see his poster
Will he show up on my toaster
In my mirror when I shave what do I see

I see that loon!  Loon, loon, loon!
Bruno's such a loon. loon, loon

Fresh and alive, so gay and young
Bruno makes us all feel like dung

Bruno’s bustin’ out all over
The sheep aren’t sleepin’ very well
For the stuff he pulled on Conan
He’s deserves a steady stonin’
And now watchin’ what he does becomes a hell

‘Cause he’s a loon!
Loon, loon, loon!
Sascha is a loon! Loon! Loon!

The writing produced I hope a successful scene. We will see at the reading this weekend, It will be a challenge, As this is an one actor play, he will play four different characters and at times 3 of the 4 are speaking alternating lines

DR Michael S - Have you seen or read Fully Committed?

I have heard about it, but never it read or seen. God I hope it's not the same story
Title: Re: ADVENTURES

I doubt it's the same story, but one actor does play multiple roles within the same scene - at least I think that's the way that show works.

If you all can get FJL 17,000 views (and counting) what the HELL are you waiting for?  In fact, I think FJL should go view each and every clip 17,000 times.  And leave star ratings and comments - it's pathetic not seeing any.

There are 7 scenes and the actor will play multiple characters in each scene. The main character appears in all 7 scenes.

Now I am getting worried.

I was advised to make the Bruno's Bustin' Out All Over parody a bit more caustic, so here's the result of that:

BRUNO'S BUSTIN' OUT ALL OVER (#2)

(verse)

Ali G left us cryin’
With tears of laughter in his day
Then Borat came and did the same
He gave us nothin’ bad to say

Pirelli showed that Mr. Cohen
Could give the theater fans a star
But now we feel so dissed and moan
‘Cause Sasha’s gone way way too far

He's becoming real dumb
You can hear him come
You can feel it in your heart
You can feel it in your bum
You can see he loves the flack
As he’s settin’ causes back

Look around!  Look around! Look around!

(chorus)

Bruno’s bustin’ out all over
The grosses proclaim that he’s a gem
He’s the freelance fashioneesta
Who’s been pushin’ his bare keesta
Into places like the face of Eminem

Bruno’s bustin’ out all over
All over the web and the TV
When I turn I see his poster
Will he show up on my toaster
In my mirror when I shave what do I see

I see that goon!
Goon, goon, goon!
Bruno's such a goon. goon, goon

Fresh and a liar, so gay and young
Bruno makes us all feel like dung

Bruno’s bustin’ out all over
The sheep aren’t sleepin’ very well
For the stuff he pulled on Conan
He’s deserves a steady stonin’
And now watchin’ what he does becomes a hell

Bruno’s bustin’ out all over
Wherever we turn he takes a swipe
It’s a minstrel-like tradition
And we wish that Sasha’s swishin’
Had a mission besides fishin’ for some hype

‘Cause he’s a goon!
Goon, goon, goon!
Sascha is a goon! Goon! Goon!

Blue Bunny takes New York with ice cream
By Dave Dreeszen | Posted: Tuesday, July 14, 2009
LE MARS, Iowa -- Thousands of New Yorkers and tourists from around the world will cool off this week with free ice cream treats made in Northwest Iowa.

Wells' Dairy, makers of the Blue Bunny brand, will hand out 50,000 Champ cones today, Wednesday and Thursday in Times Square.

"It'll be great fun,'' Wells' Dairy spokeswoman Liz Croston said Monday. "It gives us a great opportunity to get our product in the hands of thousands of consumers.''

Times Square is one of the busiest spots in the world, with more than 356,000 pedestrians traveling through the world-famous commercial district on an average day, according to the New York City Department of Transportation.

"We're anticipating it won't take long because of the sheer number of people in Times Square this time of year,'' Croston said of the distribution.

Croston and a dozen other employees based at Wells' headquarters in Le Mars traveled to the Big Apple to help out with the giveaway. An equal number of cones will be distributed each day beginning at noon at the corner of 50th Street and Seventh Avenue.

Company reps will be stationed at two spots on the corner, beneath a large Blue Bunny billboard promoting the Champ. In addition to free cones, the company will hand out coupons for a future purchase of a Champ at a retail location.

The frozen novelty, produced at one of Wells' two ice cream plants in Le Mars, the self-proclaimed "Ice Cream Capital of the World,'' features a generous scoop of homemade vanilla ice cream packed on a sugar cone, dipped in chocolate sauce and rolled in peanuts.

The Times Square promotion is being held in conjunction with National Ice Cream Month, which began 25 years ago.

Blue Bunny's giveaway has attracted national media attention. The CBS Early Show has scheduled a live interview with Dave Smetter, the company's senior director of corporate marketing and communications, at the network's Manhattan plaza at 59th Street and Fifth Avenue.

Follow Blue Bunny

Follow Blue Bunny on Twitter and Facebook this week as the ice cream maker gives away 50,000 free Champ cones in Times Square.

As part of the New York City promotion, Blue Bunny is organzing a "Tweet up.'' Under its Twitter account -- @Blue_Bunny -- the company will send out a series of tweets containing special code phrases. Twitter fans who stop by the cone distribution site -- at the corner of 50th Street and Seventh Avenue -- and mention the phrase will win one of 25 daily prizes, such as T-shirts and stuffed bunnies, said Liz Croston, a Wells' Dairy spokeswoman.

Once she left, Rafe and Adam had a nice little gentle hug, VERY tentative. Talk about a double standard on daytime TV.

While i don't see them showing gay relationships being all steamy, in this case perhaps they are trying to suggest that adam is more passionate with heather because he is not gay.

I still haven't totally figured out if adam is repulsed by what he is doing with rafe, or if he is at all confused. And heather and adam were engaged before he went to jail. I also cannot figure out if
he still loves her or if he is totally using her. Before they made his character go downhill he definitely was in love with her. They were the big "it" couple on the show.

Later is good.  I watched the opening of The Towering Inferno - sound was mastered a bit low compared to other Blu-Rays I have, but once I kicked it up a few dbs it sounded nice and punchy.  The images seems fine, but not as sharp as others, so maybe they used the last transfer.  It's nice-looking, don't get me wrong, but one gets spoiled easily by the best of these.  But, I couldn't keep away from Ponyo, and so that's what I'm in the midst of and I'll have a nice, full report for you later.

Next I watched today's THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS. I had to laugh a little bit. Both Rafe and Heather were in the room with Adam. Adam and Heather shared this long, involved steamy kiss.

Jennifer, it was Rafe who gave the anemic little hug, and then he SLUNK away from him. Not exactly showing much sexual interest. And Rafe IS gay.

Today I went back on my diet and boy do I feel better.  I played Wii tennis for about 30 minutes, bowled (wii) for 30 minutes, did some step aerobics and then ran for 10 minutes.   It felt great.

Between the holiday at the lake and my birthday I went way overboard.  It should only take a few days to get back on track

I watched two previously seen items tonight and started another one between the two I had already watched.

I began with HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX. Since my friend Hal and I will likely be seeing HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE one day next week, I thought I'd take advantage of seeing ORDER OF THE PHOENIX right before the story continues with the next one.

BK, when you watched ORDER OF THE PHOENIX, I hope you chose the PCM uncompressed track. The default is Dolby Digital 5.1 (not TrueHD), and since the movie begins immediately and doesn't give you a chance to pick a sound option, most people don't realize the disc doesn't opt for the best choice of audio codec. I put the disc on pause and chose the best sound option. I don't know why Warners puts lossy codecs as the defaults on an HD disc, but they do (or they did when the HP films were mastered for Blu-ray).

I started TO CATCH A THIEF, the Centennial Collection remaster and got about 20 minutes into it when I remembered the movie I have been meaning to watch while I was on holiday, so I stopped it and pulled something else off the shelf.

What I pulled off the shelf was THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF THE BROTHERS GRIMM. It's long, and there's this tedious story about the brothers working for a conceited duke who wants his life story told in a book, but I just love the cast, especially the casts of the fairy tales. Next time this is on TCM, I need to record just the fairy tales and make a disc just of them.

The Leigh Harline songs are snappy and fun, too. No, not classics or anything, but I've always liked them.

I am actually finding this to be the case with a lot of Blu-Ray discs - they use totally weird audio tracks for the default - on one of them, a more modern film of the last five or ten years, the default was a two-channel stereo - so now I always look at the audio choices or I use the "audio" button on the remote and find the best of them.

I just did a search on YouTube for "Pink Fish"... And the first "promoted video" that comes up is "Fish - Jeremy Piven Parody".

:)

*DR FJL - Since the "Entourage" cast is making the talk show rounds this week, you may notice another surge in "hits" to that video.  Kevin Connolly was on "The View" today, and they spend a good chunk of time talking about Jeremy Piven's supposed(?) mercury poisoning.

Interestingly, I'm doing a promotion thing on the Sanford video also but out of 85,000 views, i was surprised to see in my "insight" than only 4,472 are from the promotion; the rest they say are happening naturally; they call it "viral/other".  I'd love to know where they're coming from, but the insight section doesn't give that kind of info.

Jose - I'm thinking the "rash of understudies at the Palace Theatre" bit to the tune of "America" might be time better spent.
Here's an update of that one.

(verse)

ROSALIA
Palace Theater
You lovely structure
Even your name somehow pleases
Always the musicals running
Always the sightlines truly stunning

ANITA
Palace Theater
You scary structure
Hotbed of actor diseases
Always the vents strongly blowing
Always the standby list is growing
And the folks uh-oh-ing
At the seats they’re buying
As they’re loudly sighing

I like the theater Belasco
That’s where the people with class go!

(the chorus)

OTHERS
I like to be at the Lyceum
OK by me at the Lyceum
So much to see at the Lyceum

ROSALIA
Don’t try to pee at the Lyceum

ANITA
I like the theater called Broadhurst

ROSALIA
Such tiny seats, lose some weight first

ANITA
Such classy dramas are booked there

ROSALIA
And sassy ushers who don’t care

ALL
Maybe I’ll go to the Music Box
I'll spend my dough at the Music Box
Musical show at the Music Box?

ROSALIA
Music’s a no at the Music Box

ANITA
I like the views at the O’Neill

ROSALIA
So go line up, what’s the big deal?

ANITA
I like American Airlines

ROSALIA
Follow the crowd leaving Carmine’s

ALL
Balcony's cheap at the Marriott
Rake is real steep at the Marriott
Nothing too deep at the Marriott

ROSALIA
You'll fall asleep at the Marriott

(big dance break)

ANITA
Barrymore's nice but it's no Cort

ROSALIA
Honey, what is it that you snort?

ANITA
I like the Jacobs's locale

ROSALIA
Smart people still call it Royale

(taunting dance to big finish)

I've figured it out, FJL.  You have the old channel - not everyone has switched over to the new channel design yet, but it will be automatically done with your page at some point.  Then your page will look like mine.  I just saw the video about the changes, and you can now set what video appears on your channel page when people arrive (mine is currently The Life I Never Led and I'll switch it up every day).  In the next few weeks they'll have a customized display options, but right now this is it - no way to display all videos on one page in the new channel thing.  I could go back to the old channel, but I'm a new kind of guy.

Oh...

I had tried to post about the reading I was at earlier today during the intermission of said reading, but then the intermission somewhat abruptly ended, and well...

I went to a reading of a new musical, well, more like a "still new" musical - it's been kicking around for a couple of years already.  There were some great people on stage - and some great people in the audience too (including at least one or two of bk's "close personal friends").  Alas, the "greatness" of the people on stage just highlighted the weaknesses of the piece.

The composer/lyricist/book-writer and his director really need to follow the adage: Cut what you love.  They also need a dramaturge.  I think the first act had at least four false finales - people even started to get up after a few of them, myself included. It just felt like a good place for an intermission.  The second act also had a couple of back-to-back finales. Plus an epilogue.

However, it was put together nicely.  A good space: Theatre 2 at New World Stages. A nice band: six pieces (rock band). A good ensemble: a chorus of 12 (I think). Good, simple staging - all meant to focus the attention on the material.  And a decent sound system - although, I felt like the guy at the sound board was trying to mix a rock concert at times, the vocals were just too "close" to the band at times.

*One really interesting I noticed later: The program had bios for the writer, the director, the assistant director, the music director, the musical stager and the producers.  No bios for the acting company.  ???
