Well, you've read the notes, the notes were in three stages, and now it is time for you to post until the three cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: CUMSHAW!
-
Matthew, you are correct. Terrence Mann was the rock star with all the cash on "Smash."
-
I was just about to post this in yesterday's notes, but I wasn't quick enough...so here it is for Larry:
I just received four, count 'em FOUR CDs today! Fortunately, I actually ordered them, so it's a good thing. Anyway, I just received from Dresscircle.co.uk, the new Sweeney Todd (http://www.dresscircle.co.uk/9898-Product-Pre-order) with Michael Ball and Imelda Staunton,...
Well, I'm listening to Sweeney Todd right now and for the most part, I like Michael Ball and Imelda Staunton. HOWEVER, they didn't include "Green Finch and Linnet Bird" and the guy playing Anthony is a breathy singer. :P
There's also a bit of whisper/talking...they are definitely performing for the microphones. And like something else that BK mentioned, the singers are very far forward in the mix. The "orchestra" is hard to hear at times. It's very much like a Teeny Todd.
How did you like the ootleg-bay?
Oved-lay it!! I will definitely listen to that again after this. ;D
I know it's more complete than the ew recording, but is it better?
I just learned that Josh Dallas, the Prince in the series ONCE UPON A TIME, has a musical theatre past: in London, he played Gaby in thEnglish National Opera production of ON THE TOWN and Tony, the title role in THE BOY FRIEND.
Actually, I just realized that I forgot to bring the complete recording here to work, so I'll check when I get home and compare. I thought that I had it with me, but I don't. I hate it when that happens.
I haven't listened to the whole thing, but I listened to "Green Finch" (things like "how is itchu sing" always drive me crazy) and Anthony's "Johanna." He's much less breathy than on the recording (singing live in a performance helps, although he also sings things like "wontchu give" and "lookatchu" :P). Otherwise, the whole thing sounds pretty good. I really just missed so much from the official (single-disc) recording, so I'm sure that I'll listen to this much more than that.
-
good morning to all.
-
Received "Album Produced By" and gift plus magnet today :) What a very nicely presented book it is too.
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
Good morning, all! I'm back to the really strange dreams again: I was working at Drama Book Shop at 48th and Seventh, then we were all partying somewhere overlooking Broadway - there were musicians or perhaps we were the band? - and I stole a piece of music from DR Ginny's bag, thinking I'll tell her i've taken this, then I'm heading back to a hotel barefoot and wondering if I could retrieve my shoes before the flight back home; I take a wrong turn so instead of walking down Broadway I'm stuck on a construction site looking down on Broadway and having a bitch of a time getting back to Broadway. Somewhere in all of this I remember a subway station as well. It was nice when the alarm started ringing.
Around 8 or so, I will head downtown. I have to pick up at Toyland a few things that I left there last weekend and wait for the office rental manager (a clue!). I'm taking some work to do while I wait, and that's my day.
Hopefully, I will be home by early afternoon.
-
I assume the TOD is about less-than-famous series that didn't really run, or am i mistaken?
I recall very much enjoying a short-lived Jewish-flavored series called KEEP THE FAITH with Bert Convy and Howard Da Silva, and Nancy Walker was in it.
Here's its IMDB listing.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0457961/
Today, or even for a reading of the old scripts, I'd cast either our very own BK (or a BK type) in the Howard da Silva part (the "older" 60-ish rabbi) and either Jonathan Groff or Aaron Tveit as the young rabbi (the young rabbi is not IIRC supposed to look stereotypically Jewish, just be able to act Jewish).
-
Good morning, all.

And the word of the day is: CUMSHAW!

TOD: I remember a wonderful sitcom that didn't last long called "The Associates," which featured four promising young actors as new attorneys (Martin Short, Ally Walker, Joe Regalbuto and Shelley Smith) plus the elder partner, Wilfred Hyde White.
Attorneys never go out of style, unfortunately; and humorous ones are in ever in short supply.
I could see getting unknowns for the parts, but it would also be fun to try Anna Kendrick in the Ally Walker role, Hunter Parrish or Matt Lauria in Short's role, Michael Cera in Regalbuto's part and, in a bit of blind casting, as a brainy black attorney Jurnee Smollett instead of the not-so-dumb blond Smith. He's not old enough to take over as a substitute for White, but John Malcovich could play intelligent enough and certainly off-the-wall enough to make a disarming senior partner.
-
Off to Toyland! I just learned on CBS THIS MORNING that this is the centennial of the launch of the Titanic. I immediately thought of DRs TCB and JRand61.
-
;D
-
Good morning ;D
-
Mega vibes for everyone.
Off to work.
My weekend was overwhelming with stuff to do. I'm tired.
;D
-
Hello from NYC!
So glad to hear that TCB seems to be progressing well.

I should have asked for travel vibes yesterday. My flight from Buffalo to LaGuardia was delayed by about 2 1/2 hours. We sat on the tarmac for about 2 hours before taking off. The problem was that only one runway was being used at LaGuardia due to high winds.

I saw our own Brent Barrett and Karen Mason at Birdland last night. What a fantastic show! They were accompanied by a pianist-don't remember his name , but he was great. Their usual accompaniest, Chris Denny, was out of town.
-
The show was a tribute to Kander and Ebb. Karen started, jokingly calling herself Brent's opening act. She sang "All That Jazz," "Say Yes," among others. Brent sang "Sometimes a Day Goes By," "Life Is," "THe Skin of Our Teeth." Brent also sang "All That Jazz." They did duets on "Marry Me/Married," "New York, New York," "Why Must I Wake UP," (That's the name, right?), and the finale was "A Quiet Thing."
-
DR elmore---I met Barry Kleinbort and told him how I know you and BK. He was very friendly. I also met Sierra Boggess and had my picture taken with her.
And when Brent introduced one of the songs from his album he mentioned you as the orchestrator.
-
Oh, Ben--I enjoyed that little story about Brent from the other day!

Thanks for the Birdland report, Kevin!

TOD:
Bringing back a successful TV show can be a tricky business.
Reunion shows seem to be a safer route.
I'm sure there are others, but the only series that I can think of that did well the second time around was DRAGNET.
Of course, DALLAS is trying for a comeback this summer, so we'll see how that goes.
But, to answer the question of which of my favorite shows would I like to see come back:
None. When they're done, they're done.

Tuesday morning greetings!
Good morning, all! I'm back to the really strange dreams again: I was working at Drama Book Shop at 48th and Seventh, then we were all partying somewhere overlooking Broadway - there were musicians or perhaps we were the band? - and I stole a piece of music from DR Ginny's bag...
So that's where it went...
Actually, yesterday I did clean a piece of music out of my bag. For Easter Sunday, Fr. Richard wanted the Methodist hymnal version of "Christ the Lord is Risen Today," so he made bulletin inserts and mine was still in my bag when we got home.
-
I am off this morning for a blood test and to have my eyes examined.
-
Tuesday.
-
I guess I would like (another) Dark Shadows retooling - but I am not sure there is anyone working today that I would like to see in it.
-
Congrats to DR JMK on his Galt bonus.
Yes 100 years ago today the Titanic left Southampton for Cherbourg.....

Here is a page with the entire Timeline on it....interesting.

I remember meeting Barry Kleinbort more than 20 years ago when he was working on his musical, Angelina, at the Cohoes Music Hall.

I'm glad someone else remembers it. I still laugh at one episode where they paired up Wilfred Hyde White and John Houseman playing his "Paper Chase" character and the two old men behaved like school boys.

I think the novel THE ASSOCIATES, was a sequel to THE PAPER CHASE, or am i making that up?
I'll google and update if I'm wrong. :)

Not specifically a sequel, but THE ASSOCIATES novel is by the author of THE PAPER CHASE novel, per wikipedia:

It's Tuesday. :-\ Well-- better than another Monday. Right?
-
I recall wanting to enjoy THE ASSOCIATES but there was just something missing from the show. I felt the same way about other MTM efforts such as THE TONY RANDALL SHOW.
-
There was another MTM show in that period with Paul Sands as a cello player with the Boston Symphony. I think Patrick Williams wrote the theme for that show, too.

TOD:
The only show I am certain would work a second time around would be I LOVE LUCY, starring Debra Messing, of course, as Lucy.
-
Speaking of old TV series, I started watching my series set of CORONADO 9 and have come to the conclusion that, as an actor, Rod Cameron does not have a whole lot of personality. Thankfully, the show has some interesting plots.
-
and speaking again of old TV series, there might be some here who will welcome the news that the cheezy 90s show PACIFIC BLUE is now available on dvd.
Hmmmm....should I buy it or should I not....

Re: Breaking Dawn Part 1. I did watch it and enjoy it. I loved the ending. Although I wish I could have watched Part 1 right after it. The movie was too short (it was under 2 hours).
And in case anyone does watch it the movie does not end with the credits. There is another scene after the credits.
I still have some of the extras to watch.

It seems like my library did finally get all the books i was waiting for from last month. They went into binding today.
I guess it's good that the reference librarian was off yesterday. Cause i would have bothered her for nothing.
Although the "nice" lady who is the main reference librarian who is always slightly rude to me managed to do the same yesterday.
I don't know why. Because i see her interact with older customers and she is so helpful to them. But somehow to me she manages to say slightly rude things without actually yelling at me.
Maybe she can tell i am not overly fond of her. Even though i put on my nice face when i talk to her.
Yesterday i brought over a magazine i like to take out. The last issue was jan/feb. There was no March issue. No April issue (magazines usually come out earlier than the date). So i asked her about this (wanting her to check/call someone...).
She looked at me and said "the next issue has not arrived". And that was it.
So i tried to ask "well is there someone downstairs you could call/or maybe make a note to ask somebody". And she turned to me and said, "the person is not here today so obviously i can't call her." Then she said she would make a note but proceeded to help someone else. So possibly she will remember and check.
I just thought it so odd that she didn't just say she would make a note and that would have been that.

Rick Santorum's presidential run seems dead. Thank you, Jesus!
-
Mugs went to anyone of the first thirty-five people who ordered from the US. They would have been too expensive to send overseas, hence the magnets went to the overseas buyers.
-
I've been up since nine. This I don't know what you call them - phone sales thing, I guess, although I don't know what they're really selling - has been calling every morning at eight-thirty. Today, they did that, nine, and nine-thirty - I picked up the third time and tersely asked why they felt it was necessary to call three times in an hour. Then this idiot actually has the temerity to say, "Why didn't you answer the phone?" I said, "What are you, my mother? Don't call here again - even if I was interested in whatever it was you were calling about, I am now actively annoyed." He got off the phone quickly.
-
I then made a dentist appointment - there is something really wrong with one of my gold crowns on the lower left (well, I only have one) - really bad pain there - it's the oldest one I have and it sort of came out of the blue, this pain - began yesterday. So, I'm going in in the morning and will pray that whatever it is is minor. But there's also a problem with the upper left gold crown, or at least the tooth next to it, which feels a little jagged all of a sudden. And then there's a little weirdness with a lower right tooth, one where he replaced a cavity two years ago. I HATE DENTAL PROBLEMS.
-
Then I approved the last of the packaging fixes on ALW and that's gone in and they'll hopefully get it on the presses shortly.
-
I'm fighting a nap. I kept dozing on the bus all the way uptown. Now i have to run out and pay my cell phone bill.
-
Busy morning for MR BK.
Ah ha!!! The MAGNET/MUG MYSTERY is solved!!

When he crunched the numbers and saw he couldn't carry his home state, he finally smelled the coffee.

So did the cows complain that they got mugged last night? :)
Yes. A spokesman from their union said they all felt they should have been "tipped".
-
Rick Santorum's presidential run seems dead. Thank you, Jesus!
No. That means the GOP convention won't destroy the candidates any more.

I have a dentist appointment tomorrow morning. It's not a regularly scheduled appointment, so I have to pay for it. :P At my last appointment, they said that my gums weren't as good as they had been in the past, so they wanted to see me earlier than the usual six months. I think I've been a little more diligent with my brushing, so hopefully there'll be an improvement.

Ok, I am really disgusted with my siblings. I am tired of them telling me what I can and can't post on my facebook. My sister got all snitty about posting a photo of the whole family at mom's party. I didn't even identify her. Today my brother sent me a note about a photo he posed for last Thanksgiving that said "I don't like this photo, please remove it" First I just decided not to share any of my family photos, then I decided that maybe I should just unfriend them. I'm not as mad at my brother, so I unfriended my sister and brother in law. I haven't decided if I'll unfriend the rest of the family....but I'm seriously considering it

Well, I must leave...it's early for me, I know. Tonight, TAO (http://www.olytheater.com/) is having our regular board meeting and I think that the play reading committee (of which I am a member) will be discussing play selections, a bit. I have a play that I was supposed to read but haven't, yet. So, I have some time now and will read it while I eat. It's not too long. It's also a local author, so that's pretty cool. But the bulk of tonight's meeting will probably be the discussion of WHERE we're going to do our next show, Titus Andronicus. We lost our space and hopefully someone was able to find another place to place our play. :)
Be back later.

I have to say, the Sondheim show really sounds good now - all that crazy nitpicking trying to take a horrid recording and make it palatable, well, it's much more than that now. I guess my engineer and I did good :)

The ship re-tracing the maiden voyage of the Titanic has had to make a U-turn to shore so that a sick passenger can be taken off.

Wow, that story makes me glad I didn't spend my life savings to take the trip this year
Fear of rough seas is why I didn't take my dream vacation to New Zealand & Australia.

And how long will we have to wait before we get to hear this beauty?

Boardwalk Empire first season just came in. First episode is quite enjoyable. Danny Burstein had a small scene. Love Kelly Macdonald.

Of course I meant "Album Produced By!"

Mugs went to anyone of the first thirty-five people who ordered from the US. They would have been too expensive to send overseas, hence the magnets went to the overseas buyers.
:o Obviously I shouldn't have received a mug. Should I send mine back?
No, send it to me. My wife wants one, too.
::)

DR John G, I just put the first Boardwalk Empire disc at the top of our Netflix queue.

BK
Are you going to record their future STAGE shows?
-
Made it to episode four of "Empire," but I'm fading. Night, all.

I'll be recording this year's show.

Back from the reading - it's not really a musical but a play with songs. Proofing the Bacharach master, which sounds great.

Sherlock doesn't feel well. We don't know why. His temp is normal. I doubt we will get much sleep tonight watching he doesn't get worse. JMK will understand our extra concern to watch for symptoms of bloat, not that we have seen any yet. Poor baby is very restless. Keith is searching the internet looking for things related to restlessness.

I just finished reading Album Produced By............
I'm lying awake thinking about it. I enjoyed the "feel good" ending.

Good news and not so good news...the good news is that we have a good possibility on a space! A local theater group (Olympia Little Theatre; they're one of Washington state's longest running theater groups) might be able let us use their theater. TAO has actually performed there in the past, so we have a history of using it. We'll find out officially after their next board meeting. :D

The not so good news has to do with the play that I read this evening before the meeting...it's not so good. And the subject just isn't what we do. It's about a (fictional) woman and her life from age 16 to her 60s...from 1830s into the 1860s. The dialogue was very stilted and the whole show just made me ask (in my best BK voice) what's the point?? It really didn't make any sense. Oh, well.

One idea was brought up that everyone liked: do a festival of one-acts. I don't think anything like that has been done in the local theater community. The guy who came up with the idea had done it at The Evergreen State College the last three years and he wants to continue with something like that now that he's graduated. We'll see how that goes.
-
So, it was a pretty good meeting, overall. :D

Yay! Now if we can just get you and KevinH and others to write a review on amazon or even Goodreads, that would be most wonderful and helpful.
