And before I forget, a rare archival photograph (recently discovered) of Anne Frank and Margot Frank, along with BK's very very very (that's 3 verys) distant relation, Uncle TCB, celebrating Chanukkah.

GREASE:

Well, the duets were instructive seeing couples interacting during a song. One couple - Austin and Laura - had the best singing/acting of the five participating couples, though having a ballad ("I Don't Know Much") they sang in perfect harmony helped convey acting through singing and movement the best.

Chad (by far the audience favorite) and Allie had the best song and routine ("Ain't No Mountain High Enough") and though they put on a great show for the audience, I didn't their personal connection was as strong as some of the other couples.

Derek's rather obnoxious comments about Austin at the start of the show rather doomed him tonight, I thought, and it wasn't helped that he had the worst vocal performance of the night. Bravado is one think, but being snarky on-camera about another contestant seems pretty petty, and it may hurt him.

And Kevin and Kathleen, the couple saved by the judges from elimination, had really shaky harmony and didn't seem especially in tune with each other as a couple either. I wouldn't be surprised if they both ended up being eliminated on the next show.

DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES did indeed feature a death (we had been promoed to distraction about it this week) and some engagements. Overall, I enjoyed the episode

BROTHERS & SISTERS I loved, of course. I'm not sure about Tommy going into the wine business, and I felt so bad for the crumbling marriage storyline. Rachel Griffiths had be truly aching for her in her desperation and misery.

And, of course, the kiss between Kevin and Chad had me swooning. So, all in all, a great episode for me.

There is one featurette on the CHARLIE CHAN AT THE OLYMPICS DVD that I'll watch tomorrow. Otherwise, I will have a ton of TV to watch tomorrow, and added onto that is the three hour PEPE, so,

ARGH!

Seriously - or as seriously as one can talk about the entertainment atrocity known as "Grease: You're The One That I Want"...

It truly does suck that the contestants - yes, they are contestants and not "auditionees" - have not been able to pick their material (so far).  They truly are at the mercy of the producers who are obviously under time and budget constraints in regards to the choice and preparation of the musical material.  And I do have to wonder: Do the producers decide who gets which song?  Do the contestants pick a song title out of the hat?  Is their song choice related to their "color"?

If this was a real callback, we'd be hearing each of them sing the same song(s), each week.  This way you'd be able to compare and contrast their talent.  And put them on equal footing.

The show needs to start off with a disclaimer:

THIS SHOW IN NO WAY REPRESENTS IN ANY WAY, SHAPE OR FORM HOW A BROADWAY SHOW - OR ANY THEATRICAL VENTURE - IS CAST.

As for the female contestant who was kicked off tonight...

I just have to wonder how long it's going to take for Juliana's career to recover from this show.  Needless to say, the show has truly become a joke, and a bad one at that, in the theatrical circles here in NYC.  And if it's like any other "reality" show, I'm guessing she really can't do anything on her own until the show finishes it's run.  At least she's out in L.A. for pilot season.  :-\

Everyone knows the Urban Legend about the time Pia Zidor played Anne in the play?

Boy, did that sound harsh, but...  I think any of the contestants voted off in the early rounds are going to have a hard time continuing their career at this point.

One of the highlights of my vacation to Europe last fall was visiting the annex and the museum in what is known as The Anne Frank House. (Really wasn't a house)

Pia Zadora.  -And, I know two people - whom I trust with my life - who say they were at that performance.  But still, urban legend or not, it's still a great anecdote.

She's out in LA for the pilot season?  Doubtful.

I took a drive.  I'm back.

Dear reader Laura - yes.

I think I saw Music and Lyrics when it was called They're Playing Our Song.

And "Music and Lyrics" happens to be the movie that the head of Warner Theatrical was supervising while he was in town last year overseeing the Broadway opening of Lestat.  Word was that he was not too happy with the dailys for the movie in addition to all the crap with Lestat.  Ah, well...

There was a French film called Parole et Musique (Words and Music) sounds like the same film. I think it was with Catherine Deneuve and Nick Mancuso

As for TAR...

After realizing that the start time was pushed back by about 20 minutes... Good show!  -Although, I was surprised that they did not start off with a 2-hour episode.

Interestingly, in addiiton to YOURS, ANNE, there was another musical about Anne Frank,  called SAVING ANNE which dealt with a boy who tried to travel through time to save Anne Frank:

CBS was running 20 minutes late tonight? Oh, well, another week that I won't see WITHOUT A TRACE. I didn't set the DVR to do any recording past 11 p.m.

Good or bad these kind of stories don't work for me. History has been written and we know that he cannot succeed in his quest. Just as in The Day Of The Jackel we know that he will not succeed in assinating General DeGaulle.

I am also not sure that a musical set in concentration camp is something a mainstream audience would want to go to see.

Thank you all for the comments about my ANNE photos.  I try not to post too many photos from my plays, but since this is going to be my last play until I retire from The State, it does hold a special place in my heart.
