Well, you've read the notes, you're feeling suffused with sparkle and fizz, and now it is time for you to post until the sparklingly fizzy cows come home. To it, I say.
-
And the word of the day is SPLENDIFEROUS!
-
Nobody here but us chickens. Us chickens are with it and happening, that's all there is to it. Us chickens is SPLENDIFEROUS!
-
Trying to understand me is like trying to understand... ummm... let's see here... somebody uncannily similar to me.
-
Ann has been HAINESIFIED!
SPLENDIFEROUS!
-
Well, if no one wants to play perhaps I'll toddle off to the bedroom environment.
-
The pups were asleep on der Brucer's bed, but they woke up. Benny decided to try to eat der B's nose. Der B, taking the hint, decided to get Benny and Bax some real food to eat, some kibble. They munched and munched. One of them also peed on der B's bed. He was not pleased. He decided to put the twosome in Fletcher's big crate. Now Bax and Benny are very unhappy. They want to be out of the crate, and are being very vocal in their protestations. I'd say that they are caterwauling, but that's the wrong species.
Dogerwauling?
-
I was a very good boy today, food-wise.
-
And that is SPLENDIFEROUS.
Ann has been HAINESIFIED!
-
And there sit Jed and Ann on their collective complacent butt cheeks like so much fish. I think they're IMing each other, that's what I think.
-
iPod is on playing Johnny Mandel's gorgeous score to Agatha.
-
They have been released from the crate. There is much joy in the house now. Martha Stewart couldn't have been as joyful at being released from her crate.
But then, Martha Stewart would insist on only having the very best kibble.
Snob.
-
I think Ann and Jed are in the crate doing a little canoodling, that's what I think.
-
Well, perhaps now I shall toddle off to the bedroom environment, for I can barely keep my eyes open.
-
BUT - before I leave might I just say - SPLENDIFEROUS!
-
No canoodling going on around here
-
Since I don't drive, I rarely think about what kind of car I'd like to have.
I've given more than a thought or two to chauffeurs, but not to the car itself.
Something with a back seat would be nice.
-
I gotta fire that chauffeur! - General Bullmoose.
-
Splendiferous is a splendid word. So far is my FAVORITE of all the words of the day that we have had!
The CD sounds as if it will be SPENDIFEROUS.
Paramount Day at DODGER STADIUM. I am ennervated at the thought.
What car would I love to have? Well my NEXT car will be a PT CRUISER. I like those cars - there are two in my famiily now - and two among my friends. So once employment is secured, so will my new car.
However.......the car that I would love to have will be found in my next post.
-
Hmmmmmmmm......the sound on TCM is behind the picture by about one second and half. Is anyone else having this problem? ;D
Here it is, my spendiferous choice for my most wanted car! ;D ;D
-
I am not getting a good night's sleep which is why I'm up and am the only poster at the moment.
We have had a number of unusual cars over the years.
Right now I have one of my choices -a '56 Metropolitan. I think Lois Lane had one too.
I wouldn't mind having another 56 Thunderbird. I like thenew T-Birds too.
What I would really like is a 56 Lincoln Continental. Thye still look so good. The designers really knew what they were doing. A 1938 Cord would be nice too.
Also 1 '65 Lincoln Continental - kind of boxy and with the suicide doors-- very classy looking.
Basically though, if I have something reliable and comfortable, that is enough. The same goes for cars. ;)
-
Of course, for sheer camp value, a pink '58 Cadillac convertible would be the gingiest.
-
DR GEORGE did you get my email?
-
While this may not be the SPLENDIFEROUS answer you're looking for I have no desire to own any kind of car. I haven't owned one for 25 years and don't want to own one anytime in the future. Of course, that does have an impact on where I choose to live since it's difficult to live in many cities without owning an automobile, but there you are.
Big news! Even though it's only March 7th, we have made holiday (Christmas) plans! We are going to Dublin!!! We leave December 16th and return to New York on December 31st. I am very happy and excited. I haven't been to Dublin since 1988 and Anthony has never been. I found amazing ticket prices (though they seem to change daily) and since Dublin is on the Euro, not the Pound, it won't be as expensive as going back to London.
I had taco chips over the weekend. I hope that counts as food of the day. Last night we had lime and tequila marinated chicken breasts with rice and french cut green beans for dinner and then we had Archway Fruit and Nut Bars for dessert. I love those things. They are dangerously wonderful.
Anthony has auditions all this week for various summer stock jobs, one that might even make him gainfully employed from May through August.
That's it from this end for now. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation is calling my name.
-
I love my little Prius, it is Splediferous!! I wouldn't mind a newer model. Mine's a 2003 and they've improved since then. Of course I would like my car better if the windshield hadn't cracked when hit by a rock on the way home, but that can be fixed.
I also wouldn't mind a Mini Cooper. They are so cute....
As far as the older model cars, I really like to look at them, but not sure I would want to have one as my very own
-
Better get ready for work. The temps have gone from 70s to the 30s and it may snow today...Brrrr. I must remember to bundle up as I head out into the world to do justice, or something that remotely resembles justice
-
I did get a great t-shirt during my trip to New Orleans, the back says "Prosecutors tremble at the sound of my name" I wore it this weekend and everyone got a big kick out of it.
-
I love my little Prius, it is Splediferous!!
I mean SPLENDIFEROUS, too early to spell well

Yes, I sort of wussed all weekend - sorry. Work has been exhausting lately, and our family (DH, both grandmas, and I) have felt vaguely unwell for about a month. I think we're all ready for spring, of which we had a hint over the weekend. However, we're expecting snow this week, preceeded by a thunderstorm.
Yesterday, DH Richard and I went to see The Aviator, which we found NOT splendiferous. In fact, the article about Howard Hughes which I just read in World Book Encyclopedia was more gripping.
-
Some comments on the weekend's posts:
MBarnum - congratulations on your new great-nephew! He has a very distinguished name.
SWW & derBrucer - although I'm not an animal person, I admire your rescue efforts and thank you for sharing your adventures and photos.
BK - congratulations on your eBay purchase and vibes for that cell phone message.
Jose - thank you for your reports from the conference - see you soon in NYC!
Jane - you're a skating-on-TV fan, too? Another thing we have in common.

Ben - great plans for the holidays! Looking forward to meeting you (and Anthony?) soon.
-
Yes, Anthony will be at the show on Saturday.
-
Vixmom - Did you have to go back to work today to get some rest? ;)
Your weekend sounded like fun, although busy. With our son off to college, we miss participating in his activities.
-
Good Morning all. I am feeling the complete opposite of splendiferous... I have a headache, my eyes feel like they will explode any moment ( and I believe it may be a blessed relief if they do) and it seems some invisible person is poking a an invisible, but extremely sharp ice pick into my left ear drum.
Other than that I'm fine.
Congratulations on your baeseball purchase bk, that does indeed sound like a splendiferous win!! I look forward to the photos.
-
Just 13 days until PeenyO's show and my very first Hainsie/kimlet meet..I think that is splendiferous!!
-
Ben - I just listened to your current review on Showtime. I'm enjoying the entire program and appreciate your email notifications. When I lived in Ann Arbor (late '60's/early '70's), our local station had a similar program on Sundays at 1pm. I remember first-hearings of such shows as Pippin and Follies on that program. Your BBC show will now become a weekly must for me.

Ben, is there any chance you could make me a tape of your reveiews? I would love to hear them . Unfortunately, the fast computer at workl has no speakes and my home computer is so slow that we cannot listen to the radio on it so I have no way of picking up the broadcast myself.

I'll bring you a CD of Volume 1 (the first 21 reviews plus some extras) on Saturday the 19th and then we can discuss trying to get a way for you to hear at least my segment if not the whole program. I will make Volume 2 sometime in the late spring or early summer so if you aren't able to listen to the program, at least you will have the CD.
Ginny, thanks for the kind review. I'm glad you enjoy the program. It's been a real treat for me to have a creative outlet after 14 years of dormancy. Tomorrow I'll be recording another 12 reviews. They should start playing sometime in the late spring after this current set is broadcast. There are 3 left from the 12 I recorded last fall.

My car of choice would be a 1959 Chevy Impala!!

I too enjoy DRBEN's radio reviews! And Dublin....oh....I was Dundalk north of Dublin about 18 years ago....we drove through Dublin to get there. I loved the country. And the people. Everyone met for lunch at a pub and watched television and sang.....it was a lot of fun. Much poverty....and no drinking age, so teens and younger were in some of the bars at night....but it was a beautiful country.
-
Didn't I get you a '59 Chevy for your birthday, MBARNUM?
-
And congrats on the new great nephew!
-
DR Kerry,
You must post a photo of your Metro! I love Metro's. My friend Ryan, who used to work for Judicial, but who now works for a different agency, has a Metro and his father has a Metro! They are such fun to drive around in.
-
Didn't I get you a '59 Chevy for your birthday, MBARNUM?
As a matter of fact you did JRand54! But until I get hold of Mr. Franz's shrinking machine I will be unable to drive it around much! LOL!
-
And thank you all for the grand-nephew congrats!
I did not go up to the hospital to see the baby yesterday as I figured there would be more then enough visitors...so I will get a gander at him next weekend, hopefully.
-
Imagine my surprise to see this keychain on Ebay!

I think Cal would have gotten quite a kick out of it! LOL!

Splendiferous indeed!
Bk brags:
After I got home, I was pleased to see that I’d won a fabulously fabulous item on eBay – a baseball from Dodger Stadium circa 1959.
Well, we best expand the range of "circa" because Dodger Stadium (http://losangeles.dodgers.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/la/ballpark/index.jsp) wasn't opened until April 1962!
During the 20th century, the only privately-financed ballparks in Major League Baseball were Yankee Stadium (built in 1923) and Dodger Stadium. Walter O'Malley and architect Emil Praeger set the stage for baseball's most popular and beautiful showplace when they began designing the Dodgers' new home after moving to Los Angeles in 1958. The stadium opened its doors on April 10, 1962 and the Dodgers won their first game at their new home the next day on April 11 when they defeated the Cincinnati Reds, 6-2. The Dodgers drew 2,755,184 fans at Dodger Stadium during its inaugural season.
The 1959-1960 date seems reasonable for a Paramount Day ballyhooing Li'l Abner, but it would have been held at the Coliseum (LA, not Rome).
Perhaps for my TOD wish I could have this baby:
(http://home.att.net/~time-car/_Hollywoodsignweb2.JPG)
Then I could hop into my DeLorean Time Machine and return to LA in 1958 and hasten the construction of Dodger Stadium.

I thought about DR Jed this morning while reading an article in today's newspaper about the alarming dirth of teachers in North Carolina, and how recruiters have been going to Illinois and Michigan trying to lure prospective teachers to seek employment here. Just wanted to pass the information along if you feel the need to expand your job search to the East Coast.

Notes from yesterday;

COLD CASE had a very touching story tonight, and as usual with this series, I am usually watching the last ten minutes through tears. Certainly did tonight.
Fortunately for me, I had a furry Puppy with which to wipe away the tears.

I'm afraid I'm not a car fan. Can't tell one from another, and as long as they get me where I need to go, I don't generally fantasize about them.
I had been thinking of buying a new car this year, and I will definitely go the Saturn route when the time comes, but really, I don't have any "dream cars" out there.
-
Does anyone else here watch "Arrested Development'?
We are addicted to it.
-
Another astoundingly beautiful day in NC. Supposed to get into the 70s, and the bright blue sky is blinding. Heard on the weather that there is still some winter weather in our forecast, but for now, it might as well be spring (a Rodgers & Hammerstein reference).
-
I have been accused of having arrested development, DRVIXMOM.
-
No, I tried getting into ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT, but I just didn't key into it. I am looking forward to seeing the premiere of Kirsti Alley's new series FAT ACTRESS on Showtime tonight. I'm not a big fan of hers, but the show has gotten good reviews for the pilot, so I'm anxious to see it.

Does anyone else here watch "Arrested Development'?
Speaking of "Arrested Development", yesterday Jane posted;
I can’t resist those sweet Girl Scouts selling their wares.
First it was Roman Polanski, then Woody Allen, and now our very own Jane :-[

TOD - My father had a classic mid-60's Ford Mustang. When I finally decided to learn to drive (between my junior and senior years in college), he said if I could learn to drive a standard transmission I could have the Mustang. Alas, the stick shift proved beyond my patience and the Mustang slipped away.
Funny today's topic should be cars, because mine is in for its 30,000 mile service this morning. I wanted to get it in shape for my drive to Cleveland on the 18th to catch my plane for the big weekend in NYC.

Do I get a prize for starting both pages 2 and 3 today? ;)

I didn't watch anything on tv last night. Instead I went to my sister's house. Her husband's sister had left her sunglasses in my car. And they are leaving for Florida today. So I went to bring them to her. And to see her kids. Unfortunately (for me) they had picked up their friend Larry and brought him to my sister's house too. Larry is my sister's husband's best friend. The kids are so in love with him, that they don't pay much attention to anyone else when he is there. Especially the little boy (4 1/2 yrs old). But it was still a great visit.
The funny thing is the 4 yr old came up to me at one point and asked where his hamburger was - the one you put in water and it grows. I had gotten him one last summer when he was visiting. And he remembered it. I figured my sister had probably thrown it out, but i told him to go ask her. And she was like "did you remind him of that?" NOPE, somehow he remembered on his own. Anyhow I told him I'd get him another one for when he gets back from seeing Mickey Mouse for the first time.

1937 Cord and/or Chrysler Aeroflow.

DRMBARNUM - if you have a massage table, a photo-enlarger, and a sound effects record you DO have Mr Franz' doll making machine!

DR JENNIFER I have never heard of a hamburger that grows in water....I am...astounded. What the....

Really, der Brucer, this sneeking literally behind my back and taking beefcake pics on the pretext of puppy postings has got to stop!!!
I AM NOT CAL BOLDER!!!

FWIW: I watched "Twentieth Century" this weekend. I found it forced and unfunny in toto.
I also thought it pretty much a "ham" sandwich for both Barrymore and Lombard.
I guess that was cute back then...and perhaps it led to other forms of comedy...but sheesh!
-
The Topic of the Day:
The next car that I buy will have to get much better gas mileage than what I'm getting now. I have a Ford Escort that gets about 30 mpg. That's not too bad, but I'd like something like the Prias! Two people at my work have them and they just look so cool!
If I could have any fantasy car, I've always loved the car that Robert Preston drives/flies in "The Last Starfighter." Being able to travel through space with the convenience of just landing on a planet and driving around would be pretty exciting. ;D
-
Well SOMEBODY named George in my address book got it!
-
Just re-sent it to your REAL address, DRGEORGE.
-
BK, were you able to get those addresses that I PM'd you, from your kind offer to look them up? Or no?
If not just let me know and I will look them up (I was just being cheap and trying to get them for free!!)
-
DR RON I have to agree the Twentieth Century shows its age.
-
Thrifty.... thrifty....DRMBARNUM....it's a different category.
-
Good morning!
No, I wasn't able to get the addresses - I didn't see your PM in time.
SPLENDIFEROUS! You should see the blue sky we've got.
-
Haven't really caught up with the weekend's posts, so congrats/vibes to those who need or deserve them.
Dream car? A mid 60s Chrysler New Yorker/Imperial (Adverts for those in my parents' mid-60s Playbills always made them seem sooooooooo elegant. Of course, I would probably have to learn to drive again, in order to park such a boat.), or maybe a late 60s 4-door Continental, where the doors that opened opposite of each other, and perhaps Mary Richard's Mustang. (My brother, DR Jay, nearly bought a Checker once. I don't recall what swayed him out of following through.)
This weekend was horribly busy for me....we had 6 performances in 4 days; a free concert earlier in the week, and honestly, a Stars of Tomorrow show that I managed to avoid having to go to. The Dear Partner covered it himself over the weekend. Today was the first day in a very long time where all I wanted to do was stay in bed. But next next week is spring break in these parts, so I will take a couple of days off. By the end of this week, I will have worked 18 days straight in a row. I think there's a period in April that is even worse. Will this school year ever end???

AOL is being completely retarded and can't be used at this time.
Here is the description of the baseball direct from eBay:
You are bidding on a vintage leather Official League ball, signed by 8 members of the cast of 1959's "Lil Abner", and it's Director, Mel Frank. The movie is based on Al Capp's comic strip, and features many of the same cast from the Broadway show of the same name. The ball was signed at Dodger Stadium in 1959. The cast is headed by the late Stubby Kaye. The other signees are: Peter Palmer, Leslie Parrish, Howard St. John, Joe E. Marks, Bern Hoffman, Carmen Alverez, and Billie Hayes. Most of the actors have also added their character's name. The signatures are all boldly signed in blue inks, and the ball is very clean.
-
Got my federal taxes back already...so bought a few DVDs this weekend, including YOUTH OF THE BEAST which I am very much looking forward to watching this weekend....currently I have been watching episodes of the vintage tv series TREASURY MEN IN ACTION (a.k.a FEDERAL MEN). Kind of a nifty show...lots of cool guest stars (a.k.a B-movie actors).
-
By the way BK, that Leslie Parrish photo from the other day on Ebay is being sold all the way from Zimbabawe...it is actually an 8x10 transparency.
-
I am having a difficult time getting motivated this morning at work....it is too nice outside.
-
I should say that it is a splendiferous day outside.
-
Do you realize that I have not watched a Bollywood movie in almost 3 weeks!
-
If I would stop postiong I could probably get something done here at work, I suppose.
-
I can get AOL to load but keep getting a pop-up that says it hasn't properly connected to the Internet. AOL is beyond belief. Safari is working perfectly, of course. Perhaps I'll call AOL later and get a credit for down time.
-
Ben, Dublin is absolutely beautiful at Christmas time!! We had the good fortune to stay at a hotel across from the park and a short walk to the center of the old town. We also had the best Indian food in Dublin. Every day I went to Thornton’s and purchased Mint Humbugs and Special Toffee.
-
No, I tried getting into ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT, but I just didn't key into it. I am looking forward to seeing the premiere of Kirsti Alley's new series FAT ACTRESS on Showtime tonight. I'm not a big fan of hers, but the show has gotten good reviews for the pilot, so I'm anxious to see it.
We had the same problem with ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT. I did watch one funny episode with my brother but when I returned home and we gave it another go, it was a no-go for us.
We don't get Showtime.
-
DR JRand it's not a real hamburger. :)
It's a toy that starts off very small and then grows in water.
The best part was listening to the 4 year old describe it.
Almost as funny as Saturday afternoon when his dad bought him a chocolate ice cream cone. I was watching this kid like a hawk. But I must have looked away for a second. And when I looked back his entire t-shirt was covered in chocolate.
I asked him what had happened (assuming some spilled in his shirt). But it turned out (in his words) "well i had this moustache on my face, and it was bothering me, so i just wiped it".
Hmmm, basically he intentionally used his shirt as a napkin even though he had a napkin in his hand. :(
-
DR Jane, here the Kirstie Alley show is on the movie network (we don't have showtime). Although I don't get the movie network either. But I think my sis will be taping it (so I can watch it when she's done).
-
Jane, I'm very excited about our trip. Now that the tickets are squared away I'll begin looking into lodgings. I remember Thorntons well. It will be a treat to go at Christmas.
We may start a new tradition, Anthony and me. We had Indian food in London on Christmas day and perhaps we will have it again in Dublin. I am also looking for a good place to have high tea.
-
Cillaliz-great t-shirt. :D
DerBrucer-LOL. I feared I had set myself up with the Girl Scout comment. ;D

What a great description - I love it when EBAY sellers tell you what you need to know....and spend at least as many lines on the description as they do on their shipping and payment instructions.
-
AOL is STILL being retarded. Beautiful day here. I've written a couple of pages and shall now shower.
-
Howdy, gang!
Okay - so all the little (and BIG) last minute details looking like they WILL fall into place (this last said with a thick, arrogant Cherman Agzent!) I have a question:
I went ahead and ordered posters. Now the trick will be to ge them actually POSTED. I am looking for a poster service, and have had no luck. I believe the folk who do this sort of thing are called "snipers" locally.
Anyone know whom to call? or how to find one???

another gawjus day here in Noo yawk...

Hi Penny. You are so funny-I know you will look great!
-
Ben I hope the restaurant is still there. It was a four star restaurant, very fancy with French wines. We walked in and I was given a red rose-very, very nice.
So you know about Thornton’s. :D I think their toffee is the best but I have developed a slight allergy to it. I can only eat it when it is fresh. I have no problem with their Mint Humbug’s. It was in Dublin that I discovered them.
-
Well SOMEBODY named George in my address book got it!
:o I hope it wasn't too personal!! ;)
-
Penny are you still there? Say hi to Bill from us. Is he enjoying NY?
-
I got into a little donnybrook on RATM for deigning to suggest that "Arrested Development" tries too hard. Though I did LOL watching Liza "with vertigo" attempt to walk down a street.
-
I am one of the eBay sellers who spends way more time on paying/shipping than descriptions. Why? Because an amazingly high percentage of buyers are evidently just literate enough to be able to bid, but are completely incapable of following precise, clear instructions on what to do after they win.
-
I'm on the Internet via AOL, although it's very slow going. Maybe they'll get it together soon - oh, wait, this is AOL I'm talking about.
-
AOL is, uncharacteristically, working fine for me today.

I sell a lot of old DVDs, CDs and LPs on eBay that you've probably never paid attention to since they don't show up on searches for certain unnamed actresses. :) You would not believe how many people screw up in the payment process--it boggles my mind regularly. You're right, though, about the more expensive memorabilia stuff--those are usually fairly well educated folk who actually understand they need to pay before I will ship the item (that may seem like a joke but it is sadly not).
Yes, of course, you must not pique my interest about tv and then not tell me what you saw.
-
:o I hope it wasn't too personal!! ;)
This sounds familiar- ;D
-
Here is the description of the baseball direct from eBay:

DR JMK on Saturday afternoon I was clicking through the channels. There are a couple of locals on the Comcast system that I don't watch much....mostly it's classes for the local college.
But this guy was talking about Tallulah Bankhead and I stopped. Then he started talking about Clowes Hall....all about the opening, etc. Turns out he was some sort of manager or something and was telling stories about his years at Clowes....he was there from '63 when it opened until '69.
Well of course I was waiting for the woman to ask a question about you know who....but she never did. He said he was writing a book, but I have never seen anything. The copyright at the end of the show was 2003, but who knows.
Anyway I emailed the producer and asked her to forward my email to this guy to ask him if he was there on that fateful night. If there is a book or if he gets back with me, I will let you know!
-
Good choice DROZDEREK!
-
Really, der Brucer, this sneeking literally behind my back and taking beefcake pics on the pretext of puppy postings has got to stop!!!
I AM NOT CAL BOLDER!!!
I suspected that was you SWW!!!

All this talk about "Lil Abner" makes me want to post:

Hello, all! Today is a not-so-good day. This morning my surgeon signed off on me and gave me a referral to a colo-rectal specialist to redo the surgery. Now I have to go back to my "principal caregiver" who misdiagnosed the abscess and caused it to explode in various and sundried directions. This moron has to refer me to the next surgeon. Am I pissed?
-
Are these tears in these eyes telling you?
-
Uh-oh! Sorry to hear that Larry!!
-
Oh Larry! I am so sorry to hear this bad news.
~~~~VIBES ~~~~ coming your way!!
-
BTW Thanks to all who sent the vibes earlier, They, in conjuction with the extra strength Tylenol, seem to be working.
I think I need new glasses
ELMORE GOOD VIBES AND CARING THOUGHTS WHILE YOU GO THROUGH THIS AGAIN![size=8][/size]
So very very sorry to hear this news, Larry!!
MANY VIBES COMING YOUR WAY ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
Just curious if I can get this to show in red and enlarge the size. I did elmore's about 10 times and it wouldn't work.
-
Nope-didn't work. Anyone else having problems?
-
I need a new body!
I thought you just needed a new booty :D
-
Vixmom-glad you are feeling better. Stay that way.
-
I think the enlargement has sent us into Wide screen.
-
Mine? We weren't wide screen last time I checked.
-
So sorry AOL hasn't been working for you. It has performed perfectly here for weeks now. It's even been very fast loading pages for a dial-up connection. I have been more than pleased.
-
Definitely widescreen and irritating, too.
But I don't see what's making the widescreen.
-
Just finished watching the documentary on THE ROARING TWENTIES DVD. I had seen the movie before, but if you haven't, don't dare watch the documentary before you watch the film. It stupidly gives away some key action at the end of the film.
Dr. Drew, from USC Film School. He looks so familiar. I guess he's been used in other documentaries, but he also looks a little like an actor I've seen before in the movies.
-
I think the widescreen is courtesy of Ann.
It's the little ~~~~~ (vibe marks) they don't wrap...they just keep going across the screen until they stop.
-
DR Elmore - Sorry 'bout your continued health issues (check your email!)
-
DR Elmore3003: Sincerest best wishes that you find a specialist who can speed you on your way to recovery.
I think I'd complain to medical authorities about the misdiagnosis. This doctor who didn't call the correct shots should be subjected to scrutiny and some more education before he "practics" on anyone else.
-
Please check that Chitty's fuel gauge works OzDerek!
There, that should have fixed the widescreen problem. Sorry about that.
DRvixmom, LOL! :-*
If anyone's interested, here's the cause of my health problems:
http://www.emedicine.com/med/topic2733.htm
When my "primary caregiver" misdiagnosed the abscess and it erupted, several fstuals formed. the surgery was to close them. One refuses to heal. It's gross, believe me!
-
Yes, DR Ann, it did fix it. Thanks.
-
I'll give a full report on FAT ACTRESS tonight when I log back on. However, I won't be watching it until 11 p.m. so I can see it in high definition.
Someone in my building is cooking something that smells terribly delish! Brisket. p'raps? It's driving me mad. The recording office on 14th Street is in a building with a culinary school, and somedays the aromas are so tempting. I'm suddenly quite hungry.
Thank you all for your kind support!
DRRon Pulliam, believe me, I've thought about it, but all I want is the megillah over. If I have problems with my HMO or my caregiver about the referral or the new surgery, then I'll get a lawyer.
My office is directly above, albeit, three floors above, the building's cafeteria and the air vent above my desk seems to be directly connected to their kitchen. Every morning when I come in my whole office smells like bacon and coffee and makes me feel terribly hungry, The morning oatmeal never quite satisfies with the smell of bacon floating round you!
I meant to add that I look forward as well to FAT ACTRESS. I loved the premiere of the 2nd season of DEADWOOD last night.
DRGeorge, I looked at your quote to see how you did it. Where did you find "size 4"? I can only find size 2!
Well I must toddle off homewards, the Vixter has her singing lesson tonight
DR Elmore, I recorded DEADWOOD from last night but haven't had a chance to watch it yet. A friend is coming over tonight to watch AMERICAN IDOL with me, so I may not get to DEADWOOD until tomorrow, but I am looking forward to picking up with the story again.
When you highlight the text you want to make larger and click on the Font Size button, you then have to manually change the size to 4 or 3 or 6 or whatever. You don't get a choice, just change it yourself:
Vibes to DR Elmoore! Maybe that doctor will get it right this time around. I certainly hope he does.
I didn’t get the chance to wish DR Panni a very happy Birthday so I shall do so now.
A VERY HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY TO DR PANNI!!!! :D ;D :D [/size][/move]
If I could have any car, I would want K.I.T.T. from KnightRider. I might even take K.A.R.R. (Trivia question–- what does K.I.T.T. and K.A. R. R. stand for? I’ll post the answers later.) I might be able change him from being the bad guy to a good guy. I would like Chitty as well but one must not be selfish.
I know what VixMom would like. Bonnie. But you can’t have her! She’s mine all mine!!!! >:( ;) :D
I love the puppy pictures. In fact, I think I might have a bad case of puppy love. I wish I could take them. I wonder what B & B would think? I wonder what Mom would think? Come to think on that, maybe I don’t want to KNOW what Mom would think. Hee hee. I know I don’t want to know what she would say!
Congrats to MBarnum - on your new great-nephew, “Son of my right hand”! ( i.e. Benjamin!)
Good Morning! Good Afternoon! Good Evening!
-Just wanted to cover my bases since I've been errant and truant so far today...
Greetings from New York City!
*Well, actually, I'm in Edgewater, NJ, staying with some friends from college. My housing in the city fell thru at the last moment - well, last Friday - due to my friend's "iffy" landlord. He'd rather have no one in his tenant's apartment than a good friend of one of his tenants. Ah, well... But I got some other leads lined up for places to crash in the city if needed. However, I'm right on the bus line here, and the ferry is just a couple of blocks down the street too. In any case...
Very nice trip up this morning. And I even made it up after only three hours of sleep!
After arriving at Penn Station about 15 minutes early(!). I decided to walk up to the Equity Building - great day for a walk! And I still had an hour to spare to get some lunch before the auditions began. I went to one of the Cuban places across the street. Very good.
-
OK... Pizza Time!
I'll be back...
Laters...
-
OH! By the way...
I had the pleasure of playing for DR Anthony today at the auditions. Nice Irving Berlin number. And Thank You, DR Anthony, for actually paying attention to the audition notice and bringing in an appropriate song!
;)
-
Oohhh....
And I got to start Page 7!!!!
Dear Readers,
You are all so wonderful and dear! Thank you for your concern and wishes. I am so fortunate to have your support and so blessed with such dear friends.
I got a nice call from Noah Racey this afternoon; he's doing "Once In Love with Amy" for the New York Pops in April, and I'm going to enlarge my WHERE'S CHARLEY? orchestration for him. It will be fun to get together with him this week.
DRBen and Anthony called tonight to see how I was doing. We're all excited about the March 19 weekend. I wish all you DRs were coming into town. We have to get a count and make a reservation for Joe Allen's.
Dear Friend BK, did you find "Come down from the Tree?"
elmore - first of all you are getting my strongest vibes and xylophones for your health issues - they WILL be gone.
I can't get over to storage until Wednesday, and then I shall hopefully be able to find it.
Spent a lovely afternoon with Miss Juliana A. Hansen - we lunched, and then I taught her the song she's singing with Mr. Haines, and then I took her back from whence she came.
A Small Large Rant
Tomorrow, the Washington State Supreme Court begins hearing arguments on the issue of whether or not banning same sex marriage in this state is Constitutional. So, naturally there was a great deal of coverage on the local news stations about that this evening. Now, I must say, all of the local news stations are pretty balanced in their coverage of this issue. There was coverage of the pro-same sex rally yesterday, followed by coverage of the news conference held today by the anti-same sex group.
Now this is where I get angry. The “anti” folk (led by former NFL quarterback Jeff Kemp, son of Jack), without exception; limited their comments at this news conferrence to various studies showing that children raised in two-parent (male / female) families were healthier and better adjusted than children raised in “other” types of households. Now, I would question the male / female label in most of these studies. In the sutdies that I have seen since going to work for Children's Services over eleven years ago , they usually only compare children raised in one parent households versus those raised in two parent households. However, even if they can back up those studies, I can’t help but question their motives for raising this issue, at this time, other than to sway public opinion.
Now, nowhere in the case being heard by the Supreme Court tomorrow does the issue of raising children enter into the discussion. There is no subsection that states that two men will now be able to conceive a child without the help of a female’s assistance, or visa versa. Nor does the case being heard tomorrow have anything to do with same-sex adoption. Same sex adoption is already legal and fairly common in Washington State.
So, is it possible that these fundamental Christian protesters misunderstood the issue being heard in the courts tomorrow? Of course not. They are instead resorting to the same scare-tactics that they always use when approaching the issue of equal rights for homosexuals. And that is the deep-seated fear, in a majority of heterosexuals in this country, that homosexuals are out to molest and corrupt the children of this nation. The majority of gays that I know who are in favor of same-sex marriage, have no desire to involve children in the relationship. Those that are interested in raising children with their partners, are already pursuing that avenue. What they are really looking for is a sense of legitimacy and legal standing in their community.
The real point here is that the anti-same sex marriage folks don’t have any real reason to deny two men or two women the right to marry, other than the fact that they don’t like it and that they believe it is against their religious principles. But religion has no place in the discussion of legal rights. Marriage licenses don't take into account relgious principles in any way. If these Christians don't want gays and lesbians to be married in their churches, fine. Let these couples get married in a civil service, without benefit of clergy. But, instead, they twist the whole argument around to one that they know apply leverage with –- the safety of children.
Sorry about this rant, but other than religious grounds, is there any possible reason that I have missed as to why two people of the same sex, should not have equal rights??
Dear TCB, Your being to logical and that is the problem. Those people only see the issue emotionally and can't get past their own preconceived notions of what THEY thinks right for everyone else in the world.
Besides, we all know that if you marry without benefit of clergy your gonna burn. Just like Prince Charles and Mrs. Camilla Parker Bowles. ;)
Good afternoon, fellow Dear Readers. Today I took DR Kerry's DD (Dear Dog) Sugar for a walk:
It's refreshing to see a new face!
-
I'll have the complete cell phone message story for you in tomorrow's notes.
-
I got several packages today - including Daydreamer DVD and Tales of the Unexpected Season one and two. I'm going to watch some of the latter this evening - I'd never even heard of this series, so to find out that it was hosted by Roald Dahl and featured adaptations of many of his great short stories, it became a must-have for me.
-
Maybe every gay man should marry a straight woman (one each, not the same woman) and produce lots and lots of children. The entire nation would be so much more tasteful that way.
Uh, right.
:-\
-
I'm late getting dinner on the table.
Stop salivating, DR Vixmom, it's just hamburgers.
A Small Large Rant
<SNIP>
Sorry about this rant, but other than religious grounds, is there any possible reason that I have missed as to why two people of the same sex, should not have equal rights??
There is no possible reason that you have missed. You are absolutely correct in that they are trying to muddy the marriage issue. And Danise is correct, also. I think this might have been mentioned before, but if they TRUELY were so concerned about the raising of children in "traditional" families, they wouldn't be fighting to prevent non-hets from getting married, they'd be fighting to their (metaphorical) deaths to make divorce illegal!
And here's my other mini-tongue-in-cheek-rant: And if "they" (the conservative Christians) were so concerned about children being raised in "non-traditional" families, why aren't they working towards not allowing widows and widowers to keep their children. They're single parents, too! I would think that a single person (of any sexual preference) who specifically chooses to be a parent, who prepares financially and emotionally to receive a child has a much better chance at raising that child than a person who has lost a partner to either death or divorce. That person would be in such emotional upheaval and potential financial turmoil, that it's quite possible that that kind of situation would be much more detrimental to the child's development.
-
Now this is where I get angry. The “anti” folk (led by former NFL quarterback Jeff Kemp, son of Jack), without exception; limited their comments at this news conferrence to various studies showing that children raised in two-parent (male / female) families were healthier and better adjusted than children raised in “other” types of households.
I get even angrier because their so-called facts are just PLAIN FALSE! (Time to us the B. S. word.)
From APA (http://www.apa.org/pi/parent.html)):
The American Psychological Association in a 1995 Study of Lesbian and Gay Parenting reported: In summary, there is no evidence to suggest that lesbians and gay men are unfit to be parents or that psychosocial development among children of gay men or lesbians is compromised in any respect relative to that among offspring of heterosexual parents. Not a single study has found children of gay or lesbian parents to be disadvantaged in any significant respect relative to children of heterosexual parents. Indeed, the evidence to date suggests that home environments provided by gay and lesbian parents are as likely as those provided by heterosexual parents to support and enable children's psychosocial growth.
Another informational website (http://adoption.about.com/od/gaylesbian/f/problems.htm) reports:
The studies conclude that children of gay or lesbian parents are no different than their counterparts raised by heterosexual parents. In "Children of Lesbian and Gay Parents," a 1992, article in Child Development, Charlotte Patterson states, "Despite dire predictions about children based on well-known theories of psychosocial development, and despite the accumulation of substantial body of research investigating these issues, not a single study has found children of gay or lesbian parents to be disadvantages in any significant respect relative to children of heterosexual parents."
We don't need to prove "better than" to support the argument - "at least as good as" will do just fine.
der Brucer
To win the battle, I am even willing to concede that the traditional man/women family is the "gold standard" for child rearing. (I don't agree; however, it is often a useful concession to get on with the main issues.) All things being equal, which they virtually never are, a child would be better placed in a traditional household; the same argument holds that child should be optimally placed in a same-race household as his/her own. I am the first to admit that given a free and unencumbered choice, I would opt to be straight rather than gay - I mean, who needs the grief!
The misguided-right seems to think that by denying same-sex marriage and/or civil unions that somehow the "problem" will go away -but it won't! It matters not what the law says, S. Woody and I, dedicated partners (obvious to even a casual observer) will show up Little League Games, Boy Scout events, and School Plays to support my grandchildren. I wonder how these folks would like me to present ourselves - as dedicated, caring people, sharing each others lives, or as a queer man with his sex-toy du jour?
CA has had a bizarre situation as regards second party gay adoption. There is no obstacle to a gay man or woman adopting a child- there was, however, a policy preventing the partner of the adopter to co-adopt the others' child! This is just bass ackwards! Gay men and women in a relationship should NOT be permitted to adopt unless the other partner co-adopts - that what "family" means!
end of my rant
-
Good Evening! Again.
Goooooood Pizza! And a goooooood glass of wine!
;)
...So, now I'm ready to go to bed... Of course, since I only got about four hours of sleep last night, that could also be a factor of my current state of sleepiness.
The auditions went very well today. New Harmony was auditioning for all three of their shows this summer, so I had a few "breaks" here and there when people were just doing monologues.
In the studio across the hall, Phantom of the Opera was having their required six-month replacement call. Consequently, the lobby area was packed! In the morning it was the men, afternoon the women. Lots and lots of people, with a lot of non-Equity waiting in the outer lobby hoping to be seen.
It was quite interesting listening to the POTO auditions. 16 bars, 30 seconds worth. The choice of songs ranged from classical to traditional musical theatre to even pop(!) - which is specified NOT to bring in in the audition notice. The men were bigger culprits then the women. It seemed that the men thought that a piece was "operatic" if it had a high F in it. I heard a bunch of "What Is It About Her?"s coming through the air vents.
While passing through the lobby throughout the day, I ran into a bunch of friends and former castmates. Always very nice. My friend, Anne Kanengeiser, is currently the stand-by for Maureen McGovern in Little Women, and she's already gone a few times. And our monitor today turned out to be one of the women from a production of Side By Side By Sondheim I played for many years ago. And a few other "ghosts" ended up coming in to the audition room throughout the afternoon.
We shall see what "surprises" are in store for me tomorrow.
:)
SPLENDIFEROUS!
Well...
I really am tired, and I'm gonna try my best to get into the city a little early tomorrow just to walk around for a bit and do some exploring. I'll most likely check in from a Starbucks or some other "hot spot" location since I'll have my laptop with me. So...
In the immortal words of Jane Curtin...
Goodnight, and have a pleasant tomorrow.
-
OOHH!!! And Page 8 now too! -After starting Page 7!!
Must have been that penny I picked up in Times Square!
-And, yes, I washed my hands afterwards! ;)
-
By the way, on the very off-off-off-off-off chance that the mother who was sitting across the aisle from me on the train this morning happens to be reading this...
Thank You, for telling your son to turn down the volume on his Game Boy. Thank You.
;)
-
I am adoring these Tales of the Unexpected episodes, about which more in tomorrow's notes.
-
I haven't been called a boy-toy in ages.
;D
Uh, wait, that "ages" bit... :-\
Cillaliz, when using both Glow and Font Size, the Font Size code has to be inside the Glow code:
QUOTE THIS (or TCB's message) TO SEE THE CODES!!
Thanks! I get it.
Well, I have to say I did not enjoy FAT ACTRESS. I found it sad in many respects, and the character of "Kirstie Alley" that Kirstie is playing I found totally unlikable, bordering on delusional, and spoiled to the point of being infuriating. I guess some of it was meant to be satirical, and the show is obviously meant to be a big bird shot from Kirstie to the media heads who think only thin actressses are desirable for their shows. But I still found it overly sour in tone and not very funny.
I'm not sure what show the critics saw that they loved so much, but I found it often uncomfortable to watch. And John Travolta, who lectured Kirstie on her weight, looked like he was about to give birth himself.
-
With two exceptions (Travis and Constantine), the men rocked the rafters tonight on AMERICAN IDOL. They are a talented bunch, and I really enjoyed the show.
Still find boy band wannabes Nikko and Mario not to my liking, but obviously there is a public for that style of singing, and they can both carry a tune.
I really find it unfair that the women, so much less talented than the men this year, get to start out with six entries in the finals just like the men who are infinitely more talented and desrving.
After having a beautiful day here, the rain moved in tonight, and it's a cold rain, too. I'm going to miss that bright blue sky tomorrow.
The anti-gay marriage people drive me crazy!!! A friend of mine is a judge who granted a dissolution to 2 women who moved here after joining in a civil union in Vermont. There were protests outside the courthouse by idiots like Rev Fred Phelps...he had little kids holding signs that said "God Hates Fags"..In my mind that should be grounds to remove those children from their parents! Other than outright physical or sexual abuse much more abusive can you be than to teach your children to hate?
Then Dr. James Dobson came to town and thousands of people showed up to hear him tell them that they should vote against retention of my friend as a judge because he was leading us all to hell or some such nonsense (can't say for sure, there is no way I would have gone to see him) He did fall off the stage, which was some consolation.
Anyway, the gay marriage debate was a big deal here during that time. The judge was retained, which sort of restored my faith, but it was close, which just appalled me.
The worst thing was the city council. There was a proposal to add sexual preference to the anti-discrimination ordinance that would cover employment, housing etc. The idiots on the council gave these outrageous religious speeches as they voted against it.
I just can't believe people are so dumb and so blind.
I used to do a lot of work in juvenile court. There are so many kids in male/female 2 parent homes who are abused, unloved and generally totally messed up. It isn't the gender of the parents or their sexual preference, it's the love, guidance, and nurturing atmosphere that matters. It baffles me how people who profess to do everything for the children can't figure that one out.
Guess I'm joining in the rant.... but this really gets me.. I am totally intolerant of intolerance.
SPLENDIFEROUS!
DR Matt H, I agree with you about Fat Actress. I didn't like her character at all and really thought it was overdone. I really don't have any desire to watch it again
-
Well, BK, looks like it's just you and me at the moment. Hate to rant and leave, but I'm afraid I'm going to be a wussburger.
-
I didn't care, one way or the other, about any of the men tonight. I didn't think any one of them especially stood out, although some are clearly better singers.
I'm not wild about Anwar...I don't care what Randy and Paula said. And as much as I enjoy watching Bo, I don't think he's the one to beat. And I'm sick to death of Cowell comparing Fedorov to Clay Aiken. There's no resemblance, except they both have incredible voices.
-
One post an hour. It's the ATTACK OF THE WUSSBURGERS.
-
...Other than outright physical or sexual abuse much more abusive can you be than to teach your children to hate?...
This is why I am very picky about how I use the word "hate." Too often, the word is thrown away as something light-hearted. "Oh, don't you just hate that?" Uh, no, I dislike things, sometimes I abhor or detest things, but hate is too potent an emotion for that kind of usage.
Hate empowers the people who are doing the hating. It becomes it's own justification. The emotion almost posesses the person feeling it, enrapturing the person. It cannot be reasoned with.
I am also saddened by the minimalization by others of this emotion. They would prefer to ignore the strength of the emotion, as in when they claim "All crime is hate crime." What nonsense; most crimes are committed for reasons of greed, or fear, or all sorts of other emotions. Hate crime is something very particular, where the criminal launches the attack on the victim not because of who the vicitim is, or what they posess, but because of what the victim is, which is almost always seen as something not fully human by the criminal which, in a bizarre loop of illogic, justifies the crime.
End of rant...for now.
Time for me to hug puppies and wussburger.
Has Ann caught up?
-
Thanks! I get it.
You're welcome! Glad I could help. ;D
-
Ann just caught up
-
Well, I don't know about Ann, but I've finally caught up on the posts d'jour, and will say...
The best of all possible vibes to DR elmore!!!
Well ranted, Dad.
Definitely a fan of Arrested Development. For my taste, one of the funnier shows currently on TV. My favorite, however, has quickly become Boston Legal. William Shatner must get an Emmy nomination!
Didn't Shatner win the Emmy for playing the part on "The Practice?" I never watched that show, but I started watching "Boston Legal" because it's after "Desperate Housewives" and before "Ebert and Roeper." I've really gotten into and like it a lot.
-
Yes, George, he did win the guest appearance Emmy for playing Denny Crane on The Practice last season, as well as the supporting actor Golden Globe for Boston Legal a couple months back. Wonderful character, and Shatner is truly wonderful in it, IMHO.
