Notes from the "BE CAREFUL FOR WHAT YOU WISH" department:

Remember the tiny little puppies, with no energy, and no appetite? No more!

Up at the crack of dawn with a voracious appetite - I had to refill the bowls!

Then there was the morning tear around the house and pull each other's ears routine.

Then we pounce on each other in the bean bag:

And finally settle down for a picture:

Of course, what goes in must come out - lucky for me they have found "a favorite place" where they both go (on the wood floor, under a table, in a corner of the dining room, where I get to it to clean up).

DR PennyO...

I hope the PR guy steps up to the plate soon!!l

Do you need a permit to post those notices?  If not, can you call one of the local colleges and see if the work study office there can match you up with a student who would be willing to do it for you?

Does it seem bizarre to anyone else that with all the troubles in the world the US Governmentr is spending  millions of dollars to persecute  prosecute a man for playing chess?!

Well, my extreme right-wing law and order credentials are nearly perfect: - I thought the National Guard's behavior at Kent State was defensible, I have a few qualms about Ruby Ridge and Waco (but think the "victims" behavior brought about an unfortunate outcome), I was vigorously opposed to amnesty for draft-dodgers during the Viet Nam era,  I still think Jane Fonda should have been prosecuted for her behavior in Hanoi, I think Rodney King brought about his own problems, I supported the store owners who shot looters during the LA riots, friends have gifted me with knitting needles and yarn (a Dickens reference), but I do agree with you-

pursuing Bobby Fischer is just plain inane!

So, I ordered and PAID for 100 posters, that will look just LOVELY sitting in a box - unless I also find some time to ask around at stores and restaurants in the Theater District, to see if I may be allowed to post them. MYSELF.

I'm sure DR Jose would volunteer to poster-up the clubs in the Village, Chelsea, and SoHo - if necessary, bribe him with a kiss (chocolate).

Something of a surprise last night when I was calling was that Scott's line was busier than Anthony's. I tried Bo a few times, and it was always busy, so I'm sure he's safe. I tried Anwar's line fairly late, and got right through once, but I didn't want to give him any more votes (though I think he clearly has a better voice than Travis, Constantine, or Nikko).

Simon's debunking of Joe's assertion last week that he didn't have as much airtime as some of the other men was bunk itself. OF COURSE those people have numbers of fans who are going to vote for them regardless of how they do. But as the number of viable contestants shrinks, their fan bases can't keep them alive forever (witness Jon Peter Lewis going out 8th last year and John  Stephens going out 6th).

I do have to disagree with DR Ron about last night's show. I thought all of the men did their damndest to impress, and most did their best jobs yet. I was very impressed with everyone until Travis hit the stage.

I found the entire "soul food restaurant" sequence embarrassing in FAT ACTRESS last night. She turned her personal assistant into her pimp: well, I just found that embarrassing and totally unfunny. The bedroom scene with the network executive and Kirstie slapping each other was also off-putting.

She's got a valid point that woman are often expected to adhere to appearance standards that men often don't have to worry about. (Unfortunately, that often is the way of the world in all businesses, not just show business.) However, she was offered the option of going the character actress route (which she's actually done in some TV dramas and very effectively, too, on WITHOUT A TRACE and one of the LAW & ORDER shows), and she said she wasn't ready to go that route.

Well, the actors she mentioned as being grossly overweight and headlining their own shows are all character actors, not leading men in the conventional sense.

Law and Order: Criminal Intent just did an episode a month or so ago based on Bobby Fischer's saga.  If you've been following the Fischer story, it's looking more and more like he's going slowly (or maybe not so slowly) bonkers.

Well....not that I am not opinionated...in fact I always write pretty much what I think on HHW...and I think everyone here who agrees with me says so, and those who do not now and then take me to task, and that's okay.  Because anything I write is MY OPINION ONLY....to be shared - not to convince anyone else.

That said.

I decided to watch BRIGADOON this morning in all its widescreen stereo glory on TCM.  I still don't like it very much. But I do like some things.

I like the songs - but they all go on FOREVER!   I don't like much of the dancing (courtesy Gene Kelly) but I like a lot of the costumes, and I love the sets.  The camerawork in CinemaScope is amazing.  I love it.  And there  are NO closeups.  That is so strange....some medium shots....but no full face closeups.  RARE RARE RARE.

That said....I still don't like Gene Kelly.  Sorry, folks who do, don't like him  I just find him and his choreography pretentious.....  My favorite number was The Chase.

But I watched it, I liked it more than I thought I would.  But I don't think I will buy the DVD.

I read this morning that the wonderful Teresa Wright has also died. Sorry to read that. She's so wonderful in SHADOW OF A DOUBT and THE LITTLE FOXES. Won an Oscar for MRS. MINIVER, but I prefer those other two pictures.

BRIGADOON was Vincente Minnelli's first Cinemascope picture, and I think he struggled with the new medium. But I still think the movie has much to recommend it, and I'm looking forward to getting the new anamorphic DVD of BRIGADOON in Warners' upcoming Broadway-to-Hollywood boxed set. (Also in that are EASTER PARADE, THE BAND WAGON, BELLS ARE RINGING, and seems like some others).

As as testimony to a gradual and successful transition, I propose Tyne Daly!

My far not his best work.

Thanks for the review of Brigadoon Jrand54. I have never seen the film and wasn't sure if I wanted to pick up the DVD or not... I had heard good and bad about this film. I think it plays a couple of times on TCM this month so I will tape it and see.

And that is sad about Teresa Wright..she really was a wonderful actress.

Sorry, not getting the connection.  Do you mean the John Carpenter Debra Hill, so to speak?  Was she on the crew of Frances?  I don't remember that.  I know she did a remake of Attack of the 50 Ft. Woman, so maybe she'll have to deal with Allison, too!  :)

After a good night's sleep, I have to say I am more resolute than ever that last night's "A.I." was less than memorable.  There are three men who ought to compete, along with one, maybe two women.

It would save a lot of grief and manufactured hysterical drama, even if it won't buy ratings points.

Last night I watched RIDE THE WILD SURF on DVD. Hmmm...it wasn't as much fun as the Frankie and Annette beach pictures, I must say. And I thought the cast seemed a bit old for their roles....and Tab Hunter...you know, maybe it was just this movie, but he really isn't a very good actor is he?! He looks good, no doubt about it, but as an actor, I just don't know...not that I am any judge on acting abilities! LOL!

That said, I still want to get Tab's upcoming book!

I'm up, I'm up.  What a fine night's sleep I had.  Now I must get past the groggy stage.  The Groggy Stage - that's the title of my next novel, a western.  The Groggy Stage arrives at about nine and leaves by ten - why, it's just a whip crack away
