vixmom, despite the stupidity of the packaging, that is the 1940 public domain version of the film, with Buster Keaton.  Do NOT buy it.

No mail for me today.

Yes, DRMBARNUM, I know that you like Mr Gene Kelly.  I just have no response to that.  :)

exactly, and  the day after dear bk's reading, so if WFO happened to be in  NYC for the reading  Friday and happens to stay overnight rather than doing the LIRR thing,  (because we have our 4th row seats ready!!) for the show perhaps he can spend the morning & afternoon here ...  I wish I could..but since my schedule will not allow, I thought perhaps to live vicarously through WFO!!  ;D

Oh sweet goodness, Rodzinski is alive!

I have been immersed in the sweaty recesses of women's basketball at the HP Pavilion, which is another way of saying the big silver boxlike building in San Jose. My work is now complete there and  I am recuperating at sister's place in Berkeley. I got behind the 8-ball when my connecting flight from Dallas to SJ was delayed last Thursday and have not gone to bed before 2 am since. I will say that the PAC-10 runs a classy tournament. Good free food that sustained me during my dark hours.

Early tomorrow, I shall head to that OTHER part of California for the men's tournament. BK, you'd better be checking your messages even after the "George" incident! Back in NYC, we probably get a message a day like that on our answering machine, somebody saying we won something or other... Insidious!

What is really insidious about the "George" affair is that it wasn't like the usual.  I've gotten these calls over the years, these "you've won something" calls.  This was different - this was a case where I'd actually registered for a drawing for a car in a rather major public place, with the car on display.  Either they buried their real intent in the details on the back of the stub, or, whomever is having the drawing sold the "names" of all those who registered.

All right, I may as well share this rather incredible news with you, but for now only the Reader's Digest version - the full version in tomorrow's notes.

I have, as of one hour ago, finished my new novel.

Either they buried their real intent in the details on the back of the stub, or, whomever is having the drawing sold the "names" of all those who registered.

Since the No-Call List has gone into effect, this is how they get phone numbers for telephone solicitation.  So don't enter drawings, etc, because if you read the fine print, you are agreeing to allow your name and phone number to be used for solicitation purposes.

Not just that, they also sold your phone number.

What other information did they ask you to give them on that stub?

Congrats on the new novel. Words just pour out of you nowadays.

Looks like Miss Stephanie J. Block has injured herself and the first performance of Wicked in Canada has been postponed.

That wasn't a monkey on my shoulder (or back), it was a parrot!

Fletcher is having fun being the daddy-dog with the pups, washing them and giving them attention.  Der Brucer left the wrapper for some English muffins where Fletcher could get to it, and we soon found Baxter and Fletcher playing tug of war with the wrapper.

I found the entire "soul food restaurant" sequence embarrassing in FAT ACTRESS last night. She turned her personal assistant into her pimp: well, I just found that embarrassing and totally unfunny.

I found it totally over the top and outrageously funny.  I wish the whole show had been so outrageous.

DRJRand54, I must agree with you about BRIGADOON, a show I love treated badly by the Freed Unit, which I consider a vastly overrated group.  Irene Sharaff's costumes and their weird little out-of-period collars on the bodices are awful, I miss the score, and I've never understood the appeal of Van Johnson.
Outside of that, Mrs Lincoln, how was the play?  I look forward to BELLS ARE RINGING, THE BAND WAGON, and FINIAN'S RAINBOW in the new releases.
