Topic of the Day:

In my DVD player:  seasons 4.0 and 4.5 (the last) of "Battlestar Galactica."  I got them in the mail just yesterday and now I have the complete series.  I did, however (for reasons unremembered), get season 3 from England, so it's the PAL, region 2 DVD set.  I think it either might've been cheaper or was released before the US edition.  Either way, it works for me. :)

TOD:

CD - soundtrack "With a Song in My Heart" paired with a "Pal Joey" recording

DVD - Taking Woodstock

I watched a few minutes of PASSING STRANGE on Wednesday night.  I got in on the cast being teenagers starting a punk rock band.....it was pretty bad stuff - although I am guessing it was supposed to be at that point....BUT the mugging and face pulling especially by the girl of the group was so bad, I turned it off...not for me.  Perhaps it was not so M U C H onstage as opposed to closeups on TV.

PWOJECT WUNWAY was pretty good last night.  They have some interesting designers in the cast.  And I think the judges made the right decision in who to send home.

However my favorite outfit wasn't even in the top three.  And of course with SO many designers, you don't get to see a lot of anybody....and you don't get to see even some of several of them.....but....my favorite was the gold dress with the jacket that came off to show a red bodice....amazing.....

Friday morning greetings!  It's another "help Mom move" day, this time getting some odds & ends from the old house and being there when the IT guy visits her new apartment to connect her computer to the internet.  This is a big step for her - she's graduating from dial-up to high speed.

Before meeting her at noon, I have to get the guest room ready for DN (dear niece) Laura who's coming from Illinois to see Gram's new place and help her unpack.

Good morning, all! Yesterday seemed like Friday, so I do not know what today feels like. I will spend a portion of the day at the orchestra reading of Harold Rome's musical FANNY, which will be conducted by my beloved Rob Berman, and it will be nice to revel in the music he and the orchestra will make. Joshie will be there, since he's the secret weapon of the Encores! music dept, and I'm sure I'll see a lot of the band from FINIAN'S RAINBOW as well. I have my vocal score ready to go, and I'm really excited about it.

Last night I was quite exhausted from the events of the day and the too-little sleep caused by the neighbor above me. I really like John Vogel, the executor of the McGlinn estate, very much, and it was nice spending a part of the day with him. Tomorrow night he and William Hicks, the secret behind John McGlinn's career, are seeing FINIAN's RAINBOW and we're all having dinner before the show at Joe Allen's.

TOD:
DVD: the three Netflix still sit here. Oy!
CD:  Mozart's THE MAGIC FLUTE. Offenbach's LA PERICHOLE, Guy Haines, Liz Callaway, Fanny
   VCR: this porn is stale

Assuming that the packages arrive today/tomorrow, my weekend DVD program will include:

THE INVENTION OF LYING
PARANORMAL ACTIVITY
EDGE OF DARKNESS
(BBC version)

Also, one of my 3 "Holy Grails"

I just hope it's a good transfer.

Good morning!

We're on a warming trend for a few days. With luck, we may make it to 60 today! Still cold this morning (26), but that was about ten degrees warmer than the last two weeks have been in the morning.

DR CILLA LIZ - Salvation Army is a good donation.....and everyone might think about Doctors W/O Borders, too.

That's who I went with.  Both organizations are already there and are both good choices.

I've been leery about giving to the Red Cross in emergency cases ever since 9/11 when the stories came out about them having money to burn and that they were giving funds to people to take their dogs to get massages.

There are two versions of FAME on the Blu-ray I'll be watching today. I guess I'll go ahead and watch the extended cut (123 minutes) as opposed to the theatrical version (106 minutes) which got such bad reviews. Maybe they've put back in some footage that will add something to the experience other than length. We'll see.

I think the Red Cross is a very worthwhile organization. However, since they won't take my blood, I cannot allow them to accept my money either. I donate to other causes.

TV Notes:

Most shows are featuring new episodes tonight including MEDIUM, GHOST WHISPERER, LAW & ORDER, and NUMB3RS.

The CW is not featuring new episodes of SMALLVILLE; the two on tonight are both repeats

Fox is offering a BONES repeat at 8 p.m. and a new episode of DOLLHOUSE at 9.

Good vibes to all

As a flash flood warning comes my way (2 inches of rain yesterday, 2 more due today), I'm glad for the DVD player and an episode of "Foyle's War" from the library.
In the CD player is "Maggie Flynn," a Christmas gift I haven't heard yet. In the car CD player is a recording of Jack London's "The Sea Wolf," which I'd never read and now wonder why; it's a fascinating adventure story that makes me want to read/re-read some more London.

Off to finish up three or four articles today. Have fun all.

I also enjoyed the show and the designers.  So far, it looks like they upped the abilities requirements for the contestants in that all of them look like they can at least sew (though the jury is still out on Ping!)  And I liked how they almost all lean towards avant guarde style-wise.  Should make for an interesting season.

I did like the top two designs a lot and could have gone either way.  I agree with who was auffed--ugly material and color choices, poor construction and blah design.

I do see trouble ahead the two older female designers--I thought their looks came out very matronly (though they looked nicely made.)

There is a detour down the road someplace that is sending a steady stream of traffic up the side street outside my office window. It's very funny seeing city buses and a stream of cars on a street that is usually pretty empty especially at this time of the morning.
