Then I watched FAME. Just like the original, the drama is horribly fragmented and unsatisfying. There are eleven students we follow from auditions to graduation, and there just isn't enough time to give any of them more than a passing glance. (Frankly I was more interested in the faculty: Bebe Neuwirth, Kelsey Grammer, Megan Mullally, Charles Dutton; they do let Megan sing a solo at a karaoke bar - "You Took Advantage of Me"). Of the students, I was most impressed with the big voiced Naturi Naughton who does the old "Out Here on My Own" proud. All of the new songs composed for the film are forgettable, and, of course, there is far more hip-hop/rap than I would like (though I understand why it's there: to help the film appeal to the widest possible audience.)
Even in HD, it looks really drab. So, not recommended.
