You, Ginny & George could collaborate. ;)  And Jed if he ever returns.

I've blotted a lot from my memory...

Thanks, DR FJL.  That's kind of what I thought.

We just watched the first installment of Ken Burns' series on the national parks.  Brought back great memories of our family visit to Yellowstone in 1996.

DR Matt H, I just saw a commercial fro the forthcoming release of Disney's SNOW WHITE; do you have any idea what the differences are between this and the 1997 Platinum Edition?

I am assuming this is a brand new transfer, but I have't gotten my copy nor have I been reading the publicity releases.

I rewatched SNOW WHITE on DVD four or five months ago (it was before I came down with my affliction), and it looked lovely to me. If you're satisfied with it, I wouldn't think of upgrading the DVD to the new version.

Now, the upgrade to Blu-ray will be a different matter all together. All of the previous Disney animated features have been MAJOR upgrades from DVD to Blu-ray, and I'd be surprised if SNOW WHITE is any less revelatory.

But if you're not into high def, I think I'd save my money.

I spent a large part of the evening watching the six short films by Mira Nair which were on the second disc in the MONSOON WEDDING set. They ranged in length from 9 minutes to 59 minutes. All were interesting, and an HIV in India short ("Migration") and a poignant tale of 9/11 were my two favorites of those six on the second disc.

Next, I watched the Kevin Spirtas DVD NIGHT AND DAYS. I hadn't watched it in a while, so I had the time tonight before I began prime time TV, and enjoyed seeing it again.

Then I watched tonight's season premiere of DEXTER. Liked it all except the ending of the episode which I could see coming from a mile away. SHould be interesting to see where this all leads. Deb and Lundy will also be interesting to watch.

I had planned on dropping DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES this year, but I had read several critics who had already seen the season premiere and raved about it so I did have the DVR record tonight's show which I'll watch at some point tomorrow (I guess). If I don't like where Marc Cherry is heading with the new season, I will drop it and save myself 45 minutes more of viewing time each week.

Finished episode four, and for me they pretty much got everything right with this one.  And, interestingly, the best thing in the episode was Bryan Batt's absolutely brilliant performance of how the opening of the Bye Bye Birdie commercial for diet soda is going to be done, which he performs for his wife.  Her reaction to it should have won her an Emmy - for that alone, and Mr. Batt should also have won one for that alone.  But the whole episode was excellent, and I'm so happy the dad is gone.

What a busy weekend

My best friend (since we were 14) came in from Michigan this weekend for her nephews wedding

the first thing she and I had done together once we went was to go to the is same nephew's baptism

At the last moment her husband was unable to come along for the wedding so she asked me to come as her guest

We had a fantastic time.

this morning my friend was supposed to meet me at church - as we were getting ready to head out she called to let me know that she was stuck on the highway with a flat tire - inthe puring rain

Fortunately I have a AAA gold membership so I drove out ther and had AAA coam and change the flat for us - then I followed her to the tire store so she could get her tire repaired.  Teh tire store was not yet open  - but the IHOP right next door was - so we had a lovely breakfast together and thenshe went off to have her tire repaired and the Vixter and I went to the 2nd service at church

after church we drove ito NYC to see Hamlet with Jude Law.

Since the events of the past couple of days made  me E & T - I was not aware of the flea market else I would have tried to stop by-

We were lucky withteh weather - after it rained the whole time we were driving in - the rain stop just as we arrived at the parking garage - we were able to walk to the theatre and wait online sans umbrella

the theatre was packed - but the audience was wonderfully attentive - this is the first theatre experience in recent memory where there were no whispered conversations or rattling candy wrappers etc.  They also had a strict policy latecomers being seated "at the discretiion of the management" and there didn't seem to be any

the only issue we had was that the couple in front of us were quite tall and kept mvoing tehier heads back and forth  constantly blocking our views of the stage

I went to the box office during inintermissiona nd explaiedn the problem and the very kind man behind the window  allowed us to move up to the box seat stage right -we did have limited
views of far stage right - but since most of the action took place center stage it was not really a problem

The Vixter and I both thoroughly enjoyed the show - even with the  bobbleheaded couple

It absolutely did not feel like  3+  hours - it moved along beautifully -

It was the first time either of us had ever seen a live performance of Hamlet - although we had watched both the Mel Gibson and Kenneth Branagh movie versions

The Vixter was particularly  taken with the monchromatic sets and costuming

We recommend the show - and thank  Jose for recommending it to us!!!

After the show the crowd waiting at the stage door was tremendous - they had police there for crowd control and barrier set up -  we decied to avoid the whole thing and went across the street to John's Pizza were we were promptly seated right at the front window- and then the  heavens opened and oh my did it pour!!

We were very happy to be warm and dry and eating hot pizza!!

By time we were done with our meal the rain had stopped and we had a very comfortable walk back to the car

We passed Sardi's on the way and saw they have a Finneans Rainbow poster in  their front window

Certainly it can only be a matter of time before Elmore's caricature graces their walls!!

FJL - we also passed the Bye Bye Birdie theatre and stopped to look at the cast poster

I told the Vixter about your parody (which she hasn't had an opportunity to see yet) but looking at the poster she didn't get it -  she thought "The guy playing ALbert  looks OK for an old guy - but Conrad is HOT!!"

I guess she IS the target audience - but I bet all the other mommies are going to be joining me in singing your version of Bye Bye Birdie! !!!

We did indeed - and I am grateful for your input - we probably would not have gone had you not told us about the good reviews of the  London show

and congratulations to Jose on her his Big Gay IceCream Truck debut - Can it be long before he has his own Food Channel TV show - certainly he can run rings around that guy who goes to all the diners and truck stops

I think with should have a Dining with Jose and Monkey show - each season should be in a different city - New York, Atlanta, etc

Birthday greetings to George's sister!

Thanks, Julie and Jane and Ginny and Vixmom for the birthday wishes for my sister, Diane!  For dinner, we had local pizza that was pretty good.  My sister made her own vegan chocolate and raspberry with chocolate pudding cake and it was absolutely delicious!  I made the raspberry frosting. :)
