Well, you've read the notes, the notes were fruity and had morsels, and now it is time for you to post until the fruity cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: MACROSCIAN!
-
I just had to do something I haven't done in this house before - I had to open a window and have some strong words with my new neighbors or their workmen or whatever idiot that is outside hammering at midnight. I said it would be nice if they would stop doing such things at midnight - they stopped. This has been going on for about three weeks, but they've been stopping around eleven and as obnoxious as it is, I haven't said anything. But midnight is the straw that broke the Kimmel's back.

Where in tarnation IS everyone?

Will we never get to page two?

I will single-handedly take us to page two.

Kinky, even by bk standards.
Is this a new scene for the stage version of TFNM?

The author's typical vague punctuation leaves open for discussion whether the women are being supped upon or are joining the men in their ecdysiastic display.

Good morning, all! A day of labor: men's chorus orchestrations and a bit of laundry. Tonight I'm having dinner with Alan and Liliane Freeman, and I know thew meal will be wonderful and, most likely French, since Liliane left her home in France Europe to move to Ohio.
I brought 4 CDs with me to play in the car DVD, so I guess they will constitute my TOD:

JOHNNY DEPP SINGS (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,311781,00.html)
Last night, at Rose Hall in Jazz at Lincoln Center, a lucky few of us got to see about 25 minutes of footage of “Sweeney Todd.” This is the long-awaited film version of Stephen Sondheim’s magnificent 1981 Broadway musical, directed by Burton and starring Depp as the Demon Barber of Fleet Street and Helena Bonham Carter as Mrs. Lovett, his accomplice.
The Oscar race just officially became really, really interesting.
The three set pieces we saw were, in a word, spectacular. They were also just enough to light a fire and suggest that Paramount Dreamworks has a potential Best Picture nominee in “Sweeney Todd,” and maybe even a winner.
Both Depp and Carter sing, as do Sacha "Borat" Baron Cohen, Alan Rickman, Timothy Spall and three important newcomers: Jayne Wisener, Jamie Bower and Ed Sanders.
Of the three, we only got to hear Bower besides Depp and Carter. But young Bower turns out to be a winner. His rendition of my favorite number from “Sweeney” — “Joanna” — just knocked out the crowd.
And just a hint of what Depp does in this film was demonstrated in a number called “My Friends,” in which Sweeney sings to his recovered barber tools after returning from 15 years in prison. The number was breathtaking.
...
This much I can now confirm: as Sondheim said in this column a few weeks ago, the film version is shorter and a little different than the stage musical. The main song, “Attend the Tale,” has been removed, as have a few others, including some interstitial material.
“I had to let the movie and the story stand on their own," Burton said. “'Attend the Tale of Sweeney Todd' framed it for a theater audience. And we’ve actually added a lot of music back into the show.”
Fans of the show needn’t worry, though. The instrumental score remains intact, and you can hear bits and pieces of the excised songs in it.
As a “Sweeney Todd” buff, I can tell you that the movie seems very true to the stage version. There doesn’t seem reason for worry.
What there does seem reason for is celebration. Burton may have pulled off a great theater-to-film transfer. He’s retained the grisly aspect of the show, of course: Sweeney slits a lot of throats and "there will be blood," even more than in the movie of that name. It spurts and squirts in quantities.
But this is what we also got from seeing this footage: Johnny Depp can sing, and he makes for an impressive Sweeney. The look and attitude are right. The performance should earn him an Oscar nomination as well.

I've been stricken with that same lack of desire...even when it comes to putting it o a DVD.
That's due to a serious lack of time and some movies I seriously want to watch that are sharing DVR cache space with "Legally Blonde".

Buddah released the first several 5D Lps as single CDs with bonus tracks several years ago, but they stopped at around "Portrait," leaving off at least two classic (IMHO) albums, "Love's Lines" and "Individually and Collectively," both of which are included in this latest batch (as are some of the later releases). I have a Gaines file copy that is obviously never been opened and will remain that way - it's probably one of a kind now - and I have another copy with all its inserts and everything save for one introductory piece of paper.
I, too, have the earlier version of the MAD CD-Rom. At one point a few years ago before the bad business, when I had to get rid of a lot of stuff, I had excellent copies of every issue of MAD through about 220.
-
A very happy haineshisway.com birthday wish to one of our favorite and most talented people - SKIP. It would have been in the notes, but if it's not on the calendar, I'm too senile to remember anything.
-
CD reissue department: maybe someone else has posted, or perhaps this is of absolutely no interest to anyone other than me :P, but there are new 2-fers out of both The Brass Ring and 5th Dimension. To my knowledge, The Brass Ring has never been released before on CD.
I picked up one of the Brass Ring two-fers - I didn't care for it that much, as the arrangements were nowhere near as good as the Alpert albums or the Baja Marimbas. Sound was very good, though.
-
Oh, and I'm up.
-
DR George, I received a little something in the mail from you. Thanks so much. That should keep me occupied and out of trouble!
Oh, Edisaurus received LEGALLY BLONDE, too. How nice.
That DR GEORGE is such a good fellow. ;)
-
A little something extra in addition to LEGALLY BLONDE... I know I will enjoy viewing both of them!
-
;D
Nevertheless, I do appreciate DR MBarnum's support!
Try Supp-Hose!
-
Good Morning, bk! How are you this beautiful day?
-
Matt and Edi and Jeanne and Ginny - Skip says thanks for the birthday wishes, which I've been reading to him as they've been popping up.
How nice that you didn't just say, "A slew of DRs wish you happy birthday." ;D
-
I don't know Skip, and I don't believe I've ever seen a post here from him, but I wish him a "Happy Birthday" as well.
:D
-
Thanks, JMK.
This is even more fun than my own birthday, since I get to celebrate without having to feel a year older. :)
Good point. I hadn't thought of that.
-
How nice that you didn't just say, "A slew of DRs wish you happy birthday." ;D
Or "a nide" of etc., etc.
-
Or "a nide" of etc., etc.
Of course, "a gaggle" might have been apropos.
-
My sister started counting backwards once she hit 60 (
Is that what JRAND meant when he said something about retracing your steps??? ???
-
Of course, "a gaggle" might have been apropos.
WHO?? US??
Just agaggling away here.
-
I am fine this beautiful day. A little tired - weird dreams just before I woke up - weird but not bad weird.
-
My, my sense of humor is strange today.
There are some people who don't get my sense of humor--ever.
-
Of course, "a gaggle" might have been apropos.
Or "a clump."
-
There are some people who don't get my sense of humor--ever.
And they shall be punished accordingly.
-
Given the season, one might have said "a rafter of Hainsies" wished him well.
Of course, one could choose any number of words dependent upon how one views the "collective" at any given time.
For instance, should someone find us a bit devious, one might say, "An unkindness of Hainsies/Kimlets wished you..."
If one thought we were a bit viperish, one could say "A slither of Hainsies/Kimlets wished you..."
Should one view us as rather along the line of rodents, one might say, "A mischief of Hainsies/Kimlets wished you a..."
Of course, we are a playful lot, not unlike otters, so it would be apt to say, "A romp of Hainsies/Kimlets wished you a Happy Birthday."
Words can be such fun.
-
My, my sense of humor is strange today.
There are some people who don't get my sense of humor--ever.
Ditto.
-
Thanks, BK and RonP. I will read Skip your greetings when he finishes cooking his own birthday brunch. :)
RonP - Skip's never posted here, but since I think I used to look like your avatar, there's a kinship.
-
Larry - Skip thanks you for the e-card.
-
FJL, I hope you did not miss my birthday card wishes for your everlovin' skip on page 4!
-
since I think I used to look like your avatar, there's a kinship.
;D
-
If I were "in charge at NBC", I'd find it pretty tough to cancel a show like "Life" since it's one of the finest shows they've introduced in some time.
I'd rearrange my schedule a bit and match "Life" up with something more worthy than "Bionic Woman". I might even pit it against "Desperate Housewives" on Sunday evenings.
-
And, DR Ron Pulliam:
What if one thought of us as a rather snarky lot, hmmm? ;)
-
Thanks, BK and RonP. I will read Skip your greetings when he finishes cooking his own birthday brunch. :)
RonP - Skip's never posted here, but since I think I used to look like your avatar, there's a kinship.
Does this mean, then, that Skip and I have been "virtual"....umm....intimates?
-
And, DR Ron Pulliam:
What if one thought of us as a rather snarky lot, hmmm? ;)
A PIT of Hainsies/Kimlets, eh? That'd be the day!
-
MBarnum - Spoo, sorry, I forgot to give thanks to you on behalf of Skip - what an adorable card!
-
My, my sense of humor is strange today.
There are some people who don't get my sense of humor--ever.
If we're ever in a room together, you'll have to sit by me.
-
....intimates?
Ladies lingerie, third floor!
-
If we're ever in a room together, you'll have to sit by me.
The floors are very comfortable...
They're padded.
-
Is Skip my age or younger?
-
MBarnum - Spoo, sorry, I forgot to give thanks to you on behalf of Skip - what an adorable card!
LOL! Of course I didn't require thanks, just didn't want Skip to think I had ignored his day!
-
And they shall be punished accordingly.
Actually, one was my supervisor for a time. Let's just say we didn't get along famously, but then NO ONE liked her. I don't think she had a sense of humor.
-
If we're ever in a room together, you'll have to sit by me.
Happy to do so.
-
The floors are very comfortable...
They're padded.
Methinks Singdaw knows of much of which I am ignorant.

Speaking of buying gifts for yourself (as Ron mentioned the other day), I just ordered one for someone else, and one for me. Isn't that the way it works?
(In truth, I ordered one for me, then one for someone else.)

Yes, our springpaw has been around the block a few times, I think......

I love shopping online. I was NEVER a born-to-shop person. Nooo! I loathe crowded stores. I get so sick of Christmas music. I hate looking for a parking space. Give me the Internet anyday!

Speaking of buying gifts for yourself (as Ron mentioned the other day), I just ordered one for someone else, and one for me. Isn't that the way it works?
(In truth, I ordered one for me, then one for someone else.)
That's MY story. I knew I wanted a camera, but I also didn't want to have one and my mom NOT have one, so I determined to buy her one for Christmas.
And, as it turns out, it was my subconscious' intention that whatever I found that I thought good enough for my mom would ALSO be good enough for me.
So...I ordered two of everything...the camera, the accessories, extra memory card. And now I'm teaching myself the ins and outs of using the camera so I can more easily get her into using hers BEFORE she opens the instruction manual and freaks out over the tons of options it affords her and the iconography that goes along with the options.
-
BK's presence here was fleeting.

A good plan, I think. She'll be able to ask you how to use it--a bonus.

BK's presence here was fleeting.
He is quite fleet of foot, that one.

You said it, toots!
The internet is a BOON!
I do enjoy going out and "looking" when someone else is driving, or when it's not necessary to drive (going into San Francisco via BART).

Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal
Can that possibly mean anything?
Even in the original?
;)
-
if it's not on the calendar, I'm too senile to remember anything.
I put it on, as an "event".
Also, looking ahead to December: wow! Chock-a-block full of notable HHW birthdays!
-
Speaking of buying two, many years ago a friend and I both needed new cars. We car-shopped together and, as it happened, we both decided on the same make and model. We told the salesman we wanted two. "Two cars?" Yes. It took him a while to understand that we were serious, but we were then able to negotiate a better price. "You won't get this price if you change your minds." Fine. We had them equipped a bit differently and we chose different colors so we could tell the them apart. But it was still a two-car sale. It worked out quite nicely.
-
I brought 4 CDs with me to play in the car DVD, so I guess they will constitute my TOD:
BABES IN TOYLAND
THE LADY OF THE SLIPPER
"In Terra Pax" by Gerald Finzi
Betty Buckley and the Harlem Boys Choir
BABES IN TOYLAND. Oh, I love that Tommy Sands!

Me too! I just bought a carpet for the entry hall. No shipping, no tax, and no restocking fee if I don't like it. And 1/3 of the price of the one I was considering at the local Turkish rug shop.
-
Is that supposed to be a "come hither" look?? Oh, Lord! I think I'd run the other way!
Oh come on, DR Jeanne! Where's your sense of adventure? ;)
-
You said it, toots!
The internet is a BOON!
I do enjoy going out and "looking" when someone else is driving, or when it's not necessary to drive (going into San Francisco via BART).
I could enjoy it IF I could buy only if I saw something I thought someone would like, ie NO PRESSURE, no deadline. And a nice meal was part of the bargain.
-
Speaking of buying two...
In the summer of 2004, right after DS Rob graduated from high school, we convinced my mother (then age 85) that her word processor and email machine were both not worth repairing and she should get a computer. The 4 of us went to the Cincinnati Apple Store and she picked out a nice eMac and printer. I liked the bundle and the price so much that I bought the same things. Problem was, we couldn't get 4 people and 4 big boxes into Richard's car. So, Richard and Rob took my mom and me back to her house then went back to Cincinnati for the 2 computers and 2 printers. Meanwhile, Mom and I set up the furniture in her guest room to accommodate the computer. We got her all set up and the next thing I knew she was emailing Tucker Carlson at CNN.
-
Oh come on, DR Jeanne! Where's your sense of adventure? ;)
ROTFLOL. Yes, sweetheart, but NOT with HIM! Not with THAT look!
-
That's a great story, DR Ginny! :D

And, DR GINNY, do you advise HER, or does SHE advise YOU?
-
Well, it's been fun, gang, but I really must take care of a few errands. (Read: buy myself something else.)
-
And I wonder how Jose is doing?
-
That's a great story, DR Ginny! :D
It was a fun day, DR Singdaw.
I just returned from the Training Room, where I, along with Jamie (the only other Michigan Wolverine in the building), took my annual dose of abuse from the Buckeyes. I slipped Jamie my cell phone number and he called me, which made "Hail to the Victors" play through a couple of times. He kept redialing and the Bucks got pretty sick of hearing our song. Hope the same kind of thing happens tomorrow in Michigan Stadium.
-
And, DR GINNY, do you advise HER, or does SHE advise YOU?
Computer-wise, I advise her, DR Jeanne. But for everything else, she advises me ;)
-
And I wonder how Jose is doing?
I'm going to hazard a guess here and suggest that he's truly suffering for his art...

OH! That darn phone. I just don't know HOW to turn it off! ;)
-
I just put this in my DDD cart, along with a Leningrad Cowboys concert.
For anyone who hasn't seen their performance with the Red Army Choir (who appeared in our film THE INTERNATIONALE!) you owe it to yourself to take two minutes and sample it!
It's impressive, just for the shear number of headphone mics!

I love the Leningrad Cowboys.

I just made a totally frivolous purchase: the complete MAD magazine [well, at least through 2005/2006] on one archival disc! :)

Awesome, but on a CD how would you fold the back cover?

vixmom's review of Murder At Hollywood High is up at amazon.com. It's lovely - go read it.

And you don't think of TCB as just a tad bit pixel-lated?
Was that pixel-lated, Ron, or pixie-lated?

How about the BONES - HOUSE combo?
we were very unhappy with HOUSE last season. so far this season it has been very interesting. We found the last episode of BONES a bit weak.
-
Always love BONES but HOUSE has been more inconsistent for me this season. The number of doctors (with their own agendas) attempting to get on his team have split the stories into sometimes mind-boggling attempts to solve the medical mystery of the week. I kind of miss the show from its first two seasons.
I read this after posting- ;D

TOD:
Car CD Player: Meet the Robinsons Soundtrack. Because I happen to love it.
Books: The Four Seasons: A History of America's Premier Restaurant, by John Mariani with Alex Von Bidder. Because I hapen to enjoy this kind of stuff.
And something called Redrum Ta Doowylloh Hgih.

A Very Happy Birthday to FJL's Skip!! ;D

Have to head to work very soon. Another day running the Self Scan registers.
A new development: Whoever is running Self Scan gets to wear a red shirt, special for the self can registers, with the logo "Checkout Solutions" stitched over the right breast. Supposedly, the red shirt makes it easier to spot the person assisting on the self scan registers.
And I do mean these shirts are RED! They are more flaming than your average fire engine, that's how red they are. The guys serving on the Starship Enterprise had tamer looking red shirts. (And we all know what happened to them!)

Ah, yes - the untapped market of a support group in need of relief - the HHW Dear Partners!

That's it, BK!! (I said it was a hardback--not sure where the paperback comment came from). I can't believe I finally have the title. My parents gave away all my books when I left for college, including that, and a complete collection of mint Mad's from 1966-1974 or so. Aaaargh!!

Do any of you Dear Reader Musical Theater Mavens have access to the following pieces of sheet music?
A friend is planning a concert with his local Gay and Lesbian chorus (in Tucson). The group is having trouble finding two of the numbers they want to perform. I know one of the numbers quite well but I don't know where to find the sheet music. The other number (and show from which it was performed) I've heard of but I've never seen the cast album (only on LP) or a vocal score.
The first one is Pour le Sport, the early Stephen Sondheim piece which is most well know because it was in the 1981 musical compilation called Marry Me a Little. I haven't seen, nor has my friend, a vocal score for the show. The NY Public Library doesn't have a copy of that particular score and none of the on-line sheet music stores seems to have it.
It's the same situation with the second song, What is a Queen? from Al Carmines' show The Faggot, a 1973 Off-Broadway. I've heard some songs from Promenade and W.C (a show about W.C. Fields) but nothing from The Faggot. Does anyone know where we might find sheet music for the song?
-
Ben: I can help you with the Sondheim.

DR George, I received a little something in the mail from you. Thanks so much. That should keep me occupied and out of trouble!
Yea!! I hope it all works out!! ;)

One "near fine" copy of The Ridiculously Expensive Mad with all inserts intact is on its way to me (or will be soon). It was, in fact, ridiculously expensive. ;)

Off to get my flu shot and then to join DH Richard for a tour of the new senior citizens' facility that's been built in our neighborhood. Do we know how to party on a Friday night or what?

Well, now, Mike, in this photo I get a completely different impression. Does look like a very nice guy.

I have gotten a few things done today and will work on doing some more. I had to go home and get a Claritin a little while ago. My eyes were burning and I'm getting a little stuffy. Paul said his eyes are burning too and I've seen and heard lots of people sneezing today. Must be something in the air.
The Claritin seems to be doing the trick. I feel much better

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SKIP

It's a very beautiful day out, but it was cold when I was out running my Friday errands. Glad I hauled out a leather jacket because I certainly needed it.
-
I had planned on watching the TV on the DVR this afternoon and then watching something for fun tonight before prime time TV started.
But, when I walked out the side door to go on my errands, there were two Blu-rays from Disney that come out on Tuesday - THE SANTA CLAUSE 3 and BAD SANTA, so they now move to the top of the "food chain." Since I watched the SD-DVD of THE SANTS CLAUSE a couple of days ago, this one will be easier to get through tonight before prime time, and then tomorrow I'll watch BAD SANTA (which I've never seen on ANY format).
-
I started my viewing with 30 ROCK. Very funny. Edie Falco was the guest star.
-
THE OFFICE was very funny this week, too. Almost always find the show wonderful, and I did today.
-
SMALLVILLE had a fun episode with Helen Slater returning. Enjoyed the drama.
-
CSI said goodbye to Sarah Sidle and it was a fitting final episode.
I was glad the little antagonist ended up losing everything.
-
LAW & ORDER: CI had an OK plot but I've seen better stories on the show.
-
AS THE WORLD TURNS didn't feature the gay characters today (or yesterday). Boo!
-
MY NAME IS EARL had its best episode in awhile. It made me laugh quite a bit this week.
-
So if they cancel the show with that mean that "Life" is over?
"Life" would have no meaning.
"Life" would be futile.
None of us would have a "Life".
We would be "Life"less.
-
Had fish & chips, plus a small salad, for lunch today.
It was "okay."
-
Ben, Michael Lavine can probably help you with THE FAGGOT song.
That's the name of my next.....oh, never mind.

Now that we have two (count 'em) two HDMI inputs department: I'm seriously considering getting a hi-def DVD player. Curious what those of you with them already think about hi-def vs. Blu-Ray. There's a Sony Blu-Ray on sale right now for $299, which seems pretty good, but I haven't price checked around yet. Does one format seem to have the upper hand yet?
-
JMK, where did you find the MAD book? ABE or eBay?
-

I have the HD-DVD. Players for this format are currently the least expensive.
There are virtually NO differences between the formats other than the way they are encoded. HD-DVD is a less expensive format to program, according to reports I've read, which is one of the reasons Paramount opted to go exclusively "HD-DVD" for 18 months.
In truth, HD-DVD standalone player sales have skyrocketed in recent weeks. The next weekend (starting day after Thanksgiving) may give a clearer picture on whether HD-DVD has turned things around in its favor (there are already articles out there suggesting just that).
Bottom line: Check titles availabilities. Some titles are available in both formats. Other titles are only available in one format. You may find a title you like in each format but neither is available in the other. You may have to go by which labels offers the most titles you might love more in high definition.
This could make the difference for you in your first purchase.
-
Yes, DR JMK, check out which films are available in each format. This should be the final decision maker for you. Quality is the same. When I chose Blu-ray, Universal was the only major studio not releasing on Blu-ray. That was the basis for my choice.
Yes, HD-DVD player sales did well when Toshiba reduced them, but so did Playstation 3 sales when Sony came out with its new, lower priced model, so player sales aren't going to be the determining factor (yet). It's still a matter of which popular films can be had on which format that's going to determine a winner (if there is one).

I'm heading down now to mop that %&*#&^$ kitchen floor and then settle in with the Bu-ray version of THE SANTA CLAUSE 3.

No! Thank you! ;)

I'd be running too...
Toward the guy! :)

A German cast album of Wicked is soon to be released. If the YouTube audio clips from the production are any indication, it should be a winner!
Here's Defying Gravity (http://de.youtube.com/watch?v=KVilQsQU8HE).

We are fruity.
Yes, indeed.
But are we morsels?
I suppose that is for others to decide...

I was just reading the article online about the doomsday cult in central Russia that has barricaded themselves in a cave. They are waiting for the end of the world.
I don't mean to make light of anyone's religious beliefs, but two things struck me as rather strange. First of all the leader of this so-called cult is not one of the people barricaded inside the cave. In fact, the authorities took the leader to the cave in hopes that he could talk them out of the cave. The other thing that strikes me as strange is that they expect the end of the world to come in about May of next year. So, if you are expecting the end to come next spring, why bother to barricade yourselves into a snow-covered cave right before the start of a freezing winter?

Topic of the Day:
In my CD player here at work: the original soundtrack to Une Chambre en Ville (http://www.kritzerland.com/Chambre.html) and the original concept album to Blackbeard: A New Musical (http://www.amazon.com/Blackbeard-2007-Concept-Album-Gardner/dp/B000SYGMZA/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1195253219&sr=1-1). :)
So far, I've listened to each of these once. Even though I have no idea what they're specifically singing, I very much enjoyed the movie soundtrack. It's very different than what I expected.
I also had no idea what to expect from Blackbeard and I am very pleasantly surprised...for the most part. This has a very good score and I think that the melodies for a couple of the women's songs are beautiful. Some of the lyrics, however... ::) Rob Gardner (who wrote book, music and lyrics) uses false rhymes and is a little sloppy. Take this little interchange:
No! Don’t say it! Don’t say his name!
You might call the monster here!
He knows your thoughts,
Think of something that's not
The pirate that everyone fears!
He rhymes "here" with "fears" and "thoughts" with "not." I know it could be a lot worse, so this is a minor quibble, so overall, I did enjoy it...and can recommend it. There is a website for the show, www.blackbeardthemusical.com where they have audio clips and the complete lyrics! They even have lyrics/dialogue that are not on the recording. That's pretty cool.
-
So, if you are expecting the end to come next spring, why bother to barricade yourselves into a snow-covered cave right before the start of a freezing winter?
Because they can?
-
LOOK! It's DR Tomovoz!! :)

Thank you, RLP and MattH, for the feedback. It sounds like maybe HD-DVD is the way to go, but I think I'll wait until all the sales next week to see what prices are.
BK, I got it on Amazon Marketplace--there are copies there for up to $300, this one was less than 1/3 of that, but still pricey, if you ask me (though IIRC the original sold for $20 or so back in 1969/70 when my Mom got it for my birthday--I remember her bitching about the price, LOL). The description said "near fine with all inserts intact". We shall see--although I've had really good luck with Amazon Marketplace sellers.
-
Where IS that DR Jeanne when you need her? ;)
Who wants to know?
-
There's a big new Wicked behind the scenes book that I saw at Borders today.
-
Who wants to know?
The Randy Vicar!
-
Is anyone else considering getting the complete Man from UNCLE set from Time-Life? Am I just hopelessly consumptive? ::)
-
I thought Tosca was consumptive.
-
*cough, cough*
-
My, they're dropping like flies.
At this rate, there'll be no one left to accompany DR Ron Pulliam through the end of his work day.
-
Oh, there's DR George! He just popped back in.
-
::LONG SIGH::
My dear daughter just called and asked me if I knew anything about a play called "Lion in Winter".
Yes, say I. I've never seen a stage production but the movie is one of my favorites.
"Nice," says DD, do I think the Grandlads would enjoy it, she inquires.
Well sez me, it's pretty adult and quite wordy - I think Alex (age 11) would get bored.
"Oh," says DD - "then William(age 8 ) probably would to."
Well, sez me, I think they're both much too young for that venture.
Too bad." says DD, we're all going to see it tonight!
ERGHHHRGRG!
I enquired if she knew anything about the plot - obviously the answer was no. I explained that it was about the quintessential dysfunctional family with the husband and wife trying to destroy each other using their children as weapons. I also suggested she be prepared to explain why the King of France was screwing the Prince of England. I noted that a more than casual familiarity with the geopolitics of late 13 Century Europe would be helpful.
So, the Mother who won't let her kids watch The Rugrats on TV is taking them to see The Lion in Winter!
der Brucer
I guess Equus and Viginia Wolff are not far behind!
-

That would be the Grimmerie, I believe. I have been tempted, but all the descriptions indicate the majority of material was culled from the 2nd or 3rd Broadway cast and the first few touring casts.
I saw Idina and Kristen and Bobby Morse. If they ain't in it, I don't want it!
:D

Dear Daughters can be such a caution! 8)

I'd give a pretty to know if one of them ever asks mommy if she ever wore any of her necklaces from the nipples.

My, they're dropping like flies.

I can do the rest of THIS day standing on my head.
A weekend looms...then TWO, count 'em two, workdays next week and THEN a five-day weekend.
The heart leaps....
-
I thought Tosca was consumptive.
T.B., or not T.B....that is the congestion.
Consumption be done about it?
-
The Grimmerie is not exactly new. It was published roughly two years ago, I believe.
-
The original price of The Ridiculously Expensive Mad was - $9.95

Because they can?
They certainly can "can"!

Am I just hopelessly consumptive? ::)
Nothing that some hydotherapy can't cure.

DR Edisaurus is such a caution, too. :)

Gosh! Unless someone deletes a post on a prior page, I've actually started a new page.

Oh, there's DR George! He just popped back in.
Just popped back in?? I never left! :-\
-
I could do a happy payday Friday before Thanksgiving week dance.
I could.
But I won't.
Don't ask me.
-
MBarnum, have you ever seen "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai"? It was popular at the late, lamented Bollywood theatre near my house in Marietta.
-
They certainly can "can"!
It is certainly a good thing that there is no groaning at HHW!

*cough, cough*
Fine, now turn your head...cough again.

Oh! Well, your name disappeared for a while.

MBarnum, have you ever seen "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai"?
No, but one of my friends pledged to them at college.
-
Oh! Well, your name disappeared for a while.
Very interesting. ;)
-
That's the name of my next.....oh, never mind.
Ah, come on and say it!
-
Definitely time to get my eyes checked. I saw an ad for a movie I thought was called FRIED CLAMS; when I got closer, it was FRED CLAUS.

Because they can?

Did everyone read vixmom's lovely amazon review? I know it's a trial sometimes to find reviews on amazon, so here it is:
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful:
A Page Turner!, November 15, 2007
By D. Mann "D. Mann" (New York) - See all my reviews
An odd duckling in Hollywood High, Adriana despises her classmates and they despise her right back. She wears styles from decades past, along with the the appropriate hair and makeup... no wonder all the cookie cutter My Space addicts can't deal with her, she's an actual thinking individual!
Adriana is the only child of a Rock'n'Roll loving single mom (widowed); and unlike many of her credit card wielding, BMW driving classmates, living a modest life style, including dial up (GASP!) internet service and meatloaf four times a week (not counting the sandwiches for lunch)
Adriana would find school unbearable if it wasn't for her best friend, Billy, (who is openly gay, much to the disgust of the high school jocks) and her supportive journalism teacher.
When a popular classmate is murdered, Adriana's life spins out of control and she takes action to make things right.
I couldn't put this down until I reached the end, and I most probably would have started it over again if my 14 year old daughter hadn't ripped it out of my hands so she could read it!
Her take on the book?
"When the next one in the series going to be available?"
-
I shall now be on my way to an early supper and then Little Fish.
-
Many many thanks to Ben, Cilla, George, Jane, Jennifer, TCB and Tomovoz, for the birthday wishes for Skip.. He really appreciates the good thoughts.
Back from Cirque du Soleil, which had some pretty stunning acts, but the story they tried to impose on the acts was just sort of ridiculous and lacking in any sort of momentum. Impressive opening 20-25 minutes, then the first act flattened out interest-wise, but the second act came barreling back with one exciting act after another. (One of the gymnasts seemed to have hurt himself during one of the more daring acrobatic moves, but carried on until the end.)
-
Since Skip cooked his own birthday brumch, we did take-out for dinner from one of our fave fancy-ish restaurants, 44 and X. Just wonderful.
(BK's eaten at 44 and X a couple of times, IIRC, and he loved their upscale mac-and-cheese.)
-
When I say brumch, I of course mean brunch.
-
And he did cook a mean brunch.
-
And he did cook a mean brunch.
Do you cook a mean brunch differently than a nice brunch?
-
DRJEANNE - I do believe that is a sweet gum tree.....if you like-a me and I like-a you....no wait, that's a bamboo tree....never mind.
DR JANE - no words yet one way or the other.....but I don't want to call my sister and bother her....so we wait.
-
I love MAD MAGAZINE....
If you don't know the answer, you can always ask Dr. Potzrebie.
-
Is it Potzrebie or Potrzebie?
-
Is it Potzrebie or Potrzebie?
The latter - you are correct.
;D
That's one of the Things We'd Like to See. ;D

RE: Pwoject Wunway.....I would have kicked both of the bottom two "designers" off the show.
I don't like "crazy".....and really don't like Christopher...although BIG Chris did great.....and I liked the baby doll dress fabric, too. Rami's drape dress was lovely and fit very well.....
$50,000 worth of fabric should have produced a LOT better dresses than we saw.

Allow me to add my BIRTHDAY WISHES to Dear Skip!

And Skip adds his thanks to you, td

. . .and the TOD:
CD PLAYER: Matchbox Twenty - Exile on Mainstream
DVD PLAYER:
LA VIE EN ROSE - a b**tleg with Swedish (!) subtitles!
LES DEMOISELLES DE ROCHEFORT - Lord, how I love this movie! Whenever I need a little lift to feel perky again, this movie always does the trick.
. . .and from Netflix today, AWARA PAAGAL DEEWANA, featuring Om Puri, Akshay Kumar and Rahul Dev.

And Skip adds his thanks to you, td
Then you had better give him a great big hug!

First of all the leader of this so-called cult is not one of the people barricaded inside the cave.
Laughable until you read the details, so bizarre.
-
Gosh DerBrucer, I hope the grandlads don’t think the play is about a lion.
-
JRand, I wish good news hurries your way.
-
The original price of The Ridiculously Expensive Mad was - $9.95
Obviously it took less than I thought to make my Mom bitch--but that's a logical impossibility, since I maintained throughout her life that it took nothing to make her bitch. ;D

George, how is Ebonie's paw?

George, how is Ebonie's paw?
Just peachy! Thanks for asking. :) I looked at it up close not to long ago and I can't even tell that anything was ever wrong with it.

FANTASTIC! :D :D

I need a new chair for my small work area-this one is killing my back, neck and shoulders. Actually the entire set up is.
Keith got himself a new keyboard & then found it doesn’t work for gaming-he loves his computer games. I really like the keyboard so he hooked it up to my laptop, along with his old computer screen. It is all much larger than a laptop and has thrown my body out of position (if only there were room to set the screen farther back). Bryan has a smaller screen so I’ll trade with him at Thanksgiving, to his delight. Until then, I’ll wait to go looking for a chair.

Arnold - Skip is walking the dogs right now, but I know he thanks you.

This movie I have not seen. Yet.

Well, I'm off. A friend in the cast of Nite of the Living Dead! The Musical! is having a party, and I've been invited. It's not a cast party, so there will be people there that I don't know. :-\ I hope I'm not too boring. ::)
;)
Until later!

Some sad news to report, Ronnie Burns, actor son of George Burns and Gracie Allen died Wednesday of cancer at his home in Pacific Palisades. He was 72.
He made a few films and also played Burns and Allen's son on their TV show. He was pretty darn good...and very cute! He also starred in his own sitcom, opposite Yvonne Lime and a talking baby, in the 1960s show HAPPY. I recently found episodes of that show it wasn't bad..well, except the talking baby part.

I began my evening watching THE SANTA CLAUSE 3 in Blu-ray. Of course, the increased resolution made the picture sharper and the colors vibrant without blooming. Didn't make the movie any better, alas.
-
Oh, shoot... I gotta stop reading the obits....Michael Blodgett, star of BEYOND THE VALLEY OF THE DOLLS, also just passed away. No details yet, however.
-
I thought Ronnie Burns was cute, too. I do remember him from his parents' show.
-
I also watched the bonus features on the Blu-ray. Everything from the DVD was ported over, only in high definition (1080i) except the music video which was 480i.
There were a couple of bonus features on the Blu-ray that weren't on the SD-DVD. One was a virtual tour of the menu screen. The high definition animation turned 360 degrees and was quite beautifully and intricately animated.
Another was a virtual family room which you could decorate with dozens of ornaments, trim, etc.- tree, stockings, wreath. Could be fun for little ones to play with.
-
GHOST WHISPERER had a very creepy and evil-themed episode tonight. Matthew Morrison (looking luscious as usual) was a guest star and so was Alan Ruck.
-
MOONLIGHT had another top-notch hour: scary, sexy, and moving. I really love this show!
-
WOMEN'S MURDER CLUB had a much better episode than last night, a race against time to stop an execution story and possibly the beginning of a boy friend for one of the club members. Also, the longing looks between Angie Harmon and Rob Estes are very sexy and certainly are going to have fans wanting an eventual reconciliation between them. Great hook for the show.
-
I have to write a little bit now and then will head downstairs to bed.
Good night!
-
Back from Little Fish and shall try to start watching something - I know not what.
