Well, you've read the notes, the notes were theatrical, and now it is time for you to post until the theatrical cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: LAPIDARY!
-
good morning to all

Morning all.
That is all.
-
Our plans changed yesterday and I ended up setting up the laptop. I still have programs to load and some things to transfer but it's going smoothly. Only one program has "compatibility" issues and it's not something I need absolutely need so I will move on, as they say.
-
Ah I love the Spring!
The clear blue skies, the crocus and daffodils popping up, the birds singing....
So why was out clearing snow off the cars, deck and walkway at 6 AM?!!!!
There is a REASON we did not join the rest of Vixdad's family when they all emigrated to northwest Canada!!
-
Hey Laura - any houses in your neighborhood up for sale?
-
Ben we all love our laptops - I hope you enjoy yours as well!
-
They're coming to take me away, ha-haaa!!
They're coming to take me away, ho-ho, hee-hee, ha-haaa
To the funny farm. Where life is beautiful all the time and I'll be
happy to see those nice young men in their clean white coats and they're
coming to take me away, ha-haaa!!!!!
-
I am still wondering when EXACTLY BK and The Singer will be at the Metropolitan Room
-
BK and The Singer.... a new sitcom?
-
Vix, our card program was NOT one of the casualties. It works so Anthony will not lose all the various and sundry cards he has created. He's very happy!

Lionel Bart I am only familiar with Oliver!
But I loved the show when I first saw it as a young sprig of a twig and still lvoed it when I first showed it to the Vixter when she was a little 'un

Good morning, all! I 've got a lot of Herbert work to accomplish today: 102 songs to listen to, all the EILEEN scores sitting here need to be checked for things I should examine at the LoC tomorrow, and the bar count continues. I've got a trek to the NYPL at noon and a meeting at 2:30 with a possible musical director for this Appalachian Christmas show.
That's my news.

If Dr Ben keeps a diary in his new laptop will that be a LAPIDARY?
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And I'm about 15 miles west of Waterloo, IN, and counting.
-
Well I guess I should take off my snow clearing clothes ans out on my work clothes and hie me to the office
-
Have a lovely day all and one
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And I'm about 15 miles west of Waterloo, IN, and counting.
I forget -- where are you headed this time?
-
...And there's a nice dusting of snow here on the ground. Pretty.
-
Today is a work day. And of course there is a problem.
Vickie did the 50th Anniversary Luncheon invitations in PageMaker, so there was no way she could send it to me to proof.
Mike wanted the RSVP's emailed to him.
He used a putnamcountyplayhouse.com email address that is NOT active, so anyone who RSVP's will get their email back.
I said at the meeting that I wanted to use a REAL email address, not one of the ones that our FORMER web designer had put up that hadn't been working right for over a year......but I guess NO ONE LISTENED to me.
I tried to set up a forwarder on our Host server......but it didn't work, and of course "HELP" is being of no help.
So I set up a Google email account to receive the responses.....and we have to send out an additional card with the new email address on it.
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And I'm about 15 miles west of Waterloo, IN, and counting.
I forget -- where are you headed this time?
Chicago!
Chicago!
That toddlin' town...
-
Which of course makes us look like bigger idiots than we are.
-
Indiana?
-
Oh... Is the "clock" here on HHW still on "Standard Time"? -And I don't mean Michael Feinstein's band.
-
Off to try to deal with it as I can.....of course I can't access my regular email at work either.....so no communication during the day.

And I really must get on the road or I shall be late
-
Please Mr. Custer I don't wanna go....
-
With my senior discount, my Amtrack tickets came to $189, and I am not complaining.
I need to locate a couple of Herbert pices, like the "American Beauty" waltz for piano; then I've got some listening to do.
-
DR vixmom - I just hope that "they" don't tie that "jacket" too tight.
...On second thought... ;)
-
I wonder if they make straitjackets in lively colors or patterns these days, like nurses' smocks?
-
Hey Laura - any houses in your neighborhood up for sale?
As a matter of fact, yes, right down the street.
-
Thursday morning greetings! My Mom and I are going to try again today to do errands. It's a lot colder, but at least we're not supposed to have severe thunderstorms, hail, and tornado warnings.

So it is morning. Well then, here we are.

A very nice morning, Kerry.

Well I never figured out what made my shoulder hurt (btw, DR TCB your shower comment was very funny), but I did figure out how to aggravate it. I was doing Just Dance kids on the Wii with my niece last night. And boy do you have to do a lot of arm and shoulder moves.
-
And we just passed Gary, IN, so we should be arriving in Chicago in about 30 minutes, just 20-ish minutes late.
-
Where's the photo of Monkey on a train?
-
As for the Topic of the Day...
Well...
In regards to THE JOKER - A young gentleman used the title song as part of his UPTA audition package back in February. It was a very interesting choice. Alas, it was also a bad one.
-
Dr JRand, how very frustrating!!
-
I missed DR SwishySarah last night. Very nice to see her stop by and glad to hear that her life is swell!!
And yes, she was but a teenager when she started on HHW. She was hear even before I was. There were lots of teens at HHW back then...of course they are no longer teens...and no longer on HHW.
I was a teen when I started on HHW also, wasn't I? I am pretty sure.
-
At first I didn't think I would know from the topic of the day....but, in fact, I like many of the songs listed.
-
I recall someone being asked to write a song in the Anthony Newley vein and quipping "I can't write: What Kind of Fool Can I Turn To?"

Newley-Bricusse: From "Stop the World!..." -- What Kind of Fool Am I, Gonna Build A Mountain, Once in a Lifetime;

I'm up after a great night's sleep with no weird dreams. No telephonic calls to wake me up and I slept eight and a half hours. And now I'm stuck here until the picker uppers come to pick up.
-
Vixmom, I believe I did post the date - The Singer will Sing at the Metropolitan Room on May 10, a Tuesday evening.
-
And it's still raining here. REALLY raining.
-
Up from a nap. Now it's time to work. I think I'd prefer a longer nap.
-
That took us to Page Three.
Page Three Nap Dance Time.

I missed DR SwishySarah last night. Very nice to see her stop by and glad to hear that her life is swell!!
Ditto and ditto!!

I am home after a long day of running about. I'm fighting my urge to try to nap because I think I will head for bed around 9 tonight to be up by 5am tomorrow morning.
-
Laura I just sent you an email.

I'm listening to "The Counterfeit Traitor" and I like it. :)

And we just passed Gary, IN, so we should be arriving in Chicago in about 30 minutes, just 20-ish minutes late.
If you are at the train station there is a wonderful bakery amongst the shops. It is the second location for the bakery Bryan got his wedding desserts from, all of which came from the entremets menu. The were so incredibly delicious I had to make a trip to the bakery last time I was in Chicago. My favorite was a chocolate cake I can't recall the name of. Fortunately Bryan & Kate told me what to get before I went there.

I found this story of a boy who was bullied very touching & what happened after he didn't take it anymore. It is somewhat long but worth watching. :)

Hi Jane. I just got your email.

Thanks Laura. I saw your response & wrote back.

Picker uppers have been and gone, I had some matzo brei, picked up two packages, and am pretty much done for the day. And that's a good thing. Haven't heard from Juliana so maybe that's off, and that would be fine by me.

I enjoyed this story, but I wonder what the school is doing about it. It suspended both kids, but what happens next?
-
I read a couple of stories online about the bully and the backlash. It seems the bully's mother is whining because her son has been misunderstood. And it seems the father of Casey, the kid who showed way too much tolerance before fighting back, will not let his son go back to the same school.
The story is far from over, but the world seems to be solidly in Casey's corner.
The video shows Casey getting punched several times before reacting, and Australian school officials are saying he should have never reacted. Yet school officials also don't say how someone who is alone and taunted by a group should react after getting punched in the face a few times. I think the media attention is likely to make the school behave more reprehensibly than ever because its neglect of bullying has been exposed.
-
Just a quick HI between my day with my Mom and my evening with my book group. Mom and I got a lot done today and I also peeked in on my aunt. She's now in a skilled nursing part of the retirement community and her son will be here this weekend to disperse most of the furnishings and belongings from her house.

Thanks for the additional info. I find it shocking the boy was suspended when the video proves he had no other choice, plus he walked away after defending himself. I hope he can go to another school & make friends.
-
Hi Ginny. Is it easy for your mother to visit your aunt any time she wants?
-
Hi, Jane.
I've not received any e-mail from you.
-
LOL-That is because you don't live in Phoenix.
Dr Laura is helping Craig with info on Phoenix.
-
My son got detention for defending himself from a bully in elementary school.
-
If you knew my son, you would know he'd never throw a punch first.
-
Bryan got attacked & did not defend himself. The boys were lucky as Bryan knew karate. Nothing happened to the other boys and the school never called me. Fortunately friends called, having heard from their children who got home before Bryan did. I was furious.
DR Laura I'm sure you were not happy.
Oh, and I told the principle I gave Bryan permission to use his karate next time. The principle looked shocked.
-
DR Laura thank you for all the time & research you just did on behalf of Craig.
-
Hard to believe, but the IMHO disgusting creeps Ann and Mike of All that Chat supported my "cyber-bullies/cyber-stalkers" by suspending me from their chat board for 30 days when I just tried to discuss the theater-writing-related aspects of the cyber-stalking and cyber-bullying issue.
"TBAdmin" describes them perfectly. The two of them are IMHO emblematic of a diseased administrative mind

Fred,
This is a private matter and has nothing to do with All That Chat, or theatre.

Your account on ALL THAT CHAT has been suspended for 30 days, until March 26,
2011.
-
Sorry about your suspension, Fred.
-
Well, the suspension's almost over!
But the two of them have been utterly appalling through it all
-
I was harassed plenty in grade school and high school. Only physically bullied once (punched in the chest) and it was in front of the class but not the teacher. I did not strike back but I was also not defended by anyone else in the class. It was toward the end of the eighth grade and I knew I was going to another school in the fall.
I guess that's why these stories rankle so much.
-
Still on page 3 at 7:01 p.m. Central?
-
We must remedy that.
-
On to Page Four
-
Am braising oxtails for dinner. Have never made this before, and it's rather disgusting. But the flavor has always haunted me. Definitely in my top five favorite dishes. I just may have to leave the cooking of it up to others, though.
-
Sorry about your suspension, Fred.
As am I.
-
I grew up eating oxtail stew and it was fantastic. I only made it once & learned what happens if you use too much barley. ;D

No barley in my recipe. Just onions, red wine, seasonings, garlic and shallots. And oxtail.
-
First two reviews of "Book of Mormon" have been really bad, but one was from Terry Teachout and that's not unexpected.
-
Sorry about your suspension, Fred.
As am I.
Ditto!
-
Variety and Hollywood Reporter are raves for BOOK OF MORMON. Likewise L.A. Times and Washington Post.
-
Re Book of Mormon - I think it's probably a fun show that's not great - however, you're going to find a lot of critics who jump on the "got to be hip" bandwagon. It happens with every single show like this.
-
As to bullying, those who've read Kritzer Time know I was regularly bullied and it was much worse than in the book, where I basically boil it all down to one person doing it (and yes, he does get his, just as he did in real life, albeit in a slightly more devious way) - the reality was it was several people who were relentless about it. No violence, just verbal threats and endless harassment.
-
Jrand - very frustrating when people don't listen to the people withe facts ---
How true! A friend of mine sent me the e-mail about July of this year having five Fridays, five Saturdays, and fvie Sundays. Something that won't happen again for 800 years. Fine and dandy, except that it isn't true. Since she had sent it to everyone on her address book, I thought she might want to know that it was false. So I wrote back and said, "Sorry, but this isn't true." We have been friends for twenty years, and she knows that I almost always check things out before I forward them on to my address book. But she writes back, "How so?" Not thanks for telling me or anything else; like she thinks I am making the whole thing up.
-
Meanwhile, Ann and Mike apparently removed two posts that were apparently supportive of me this afternoon.
Bullying comes in various ways, and the bullies know they're evil, but Ann Miner and Mike Reynolds probably don't recognize their own evil. IMHO, that makes them ever scarier, evil people that cloak their evil in business as usual.
P.S. Thanks for the kind words, John G, Jane, and George.

And we just passed Gary, IN, so we should be arriving in Chicago in about 30 minutes, just 20-ish minutes late.

Today at work, we had a chili cook-off. There were nine different versions of chili. I brought my sister's vegan chili, someone brought chili that had cashews, and someone else even brought chili with lamb. Most were pretty good and a lot of chili got eaten. Some of my sister's was left over and I'm taking that home so I'll have food for the next several days. :)

Well, I need to leave now. I have to get my chili and bring it home before I go to rehearsal.
Have a good evening, all.

Keith was walking down Robertson Blvd not far from his house, which was also near the high school, when a bully walked up, said something rude, and knocked him out. I can't remember if he was in elementary school or Jr. High at the time. It was before I met him.
I don't ever remember being injured or frightened by bulling. I was teased & called names such as fat. Bozo the clown perms didn't help and being kept in little girl clothes as I got older didn't help.

I've judged more than my share of chili competitions here in Texas. I've had chili with sugar in it (horror), chili with coconut, chili with fruit. Those are generally the neighborhood, church, business chili cook-off entries. But the serious cook-offs -- the ones with money or prestige attached -- have rigid rules. No beans. No identifiable meat. No identifiable ingredients, such as onions.
They would not take kindly to Skyline Chili here.

I've just had some very sad news. Sherlock's brother has died. This was the puppy we originally wanted & had Sherlock not had a blue eye he would have been ours. By the time we walked away with Sherlock I was very torn between the two & had we been offered this brother we might now have two dogs.
The dogs liver was totally gone and they don't know what caused it. The good thing for us is this isn't genetic.
I'm in shock & very sad. We spent a lot of time with this pup and the rest of Sherlock's siblings.

That's a shock. How old is Sherlock?
-
Four years and eight months.
-
I feel terrible for the guy who had him. Like us he took his dog everywhere with him. I just found out Sherlock's brother won best of breed at a show last week. I hope that give the owner comfort. Our breeder said he will take one of the six week old pups from the litter Sherlock's sister had six weeks ago. I hope having a nephew helps. I tend to wait a year in between dogs.
-
That's terrible, Jane!
-
It sure is.

I sent an email to the poor guy.

I sent you an email, Jane.
-
Aww, sorry to hear about Sherlock's brother...
-
Juliana totally flaked. She was supposed to call yesterday and confirm, didn't, and then I left her a message this morning, which she conveniently didn't listen to. I was trying to be nice and show her this movie she was dying to see - and now she can go see it elsewhere and I'll watch it again (along with the other two films) at me leisure.
-
Hi Ginny. Is it easy for your mother to visit your aunt any time she wants?
Yes and no, DR Jane. It's easy because their buildings are connected so you can get from Mom's apartment to my aunt's room without going outside. It's difficult because it's a long walk, plus my mother has a fair amount of anxiety about my aunt's condition.
-
I sent you an email, Jane.
I got it. Thank you again. I have shared all your info with Craig. I'll write more tomorrow. I'm going to distract myself with some tv.

I'm glad she can get to her sister without going outside. Can she get a motorized car instead of walking?
Thank you for your post regarding Teej, Sherlock's brother.
-
Mom thought she wanted a motorized scooter, but her apartment is small and it would take up a lot of room. She does have a walker with wheels that helps a lot. There are places to sit down along the way, too.

The following is a very funny clip in which Stephen Colbert interviews someone who is trying to take food beyond what Colbert calls "the missionary positions of cuisine," namely boiling, baking and frying.

Remember my kvetching last night about Dayton Opera ticket prices? One of my book group friends sings in the chorus and offered Richard and me the 2 free tickets she gets for the dress rehearsal!

Somehow I failed to mention that tonight was opening night for The Wedding Singer at the Vixter's school - she plays assorted wedding guests, one of the "Losers at Table 9" , an old lady in the shopping mall and the Cyndi Lauper impersonator.

That's great news, Ginny.

I must admit I was not expecting much from this show and I was taken totally by surprise by how much fun it was

A little song I wrote for Craig..
Ah hemm.....mimi mi mi mi....
By the time you get to Phoenix
You'll find a great job
They'll be thrilled to hire a vegan with your skills.......
-
Yes, DR John G, I was very pleased to get the offer from my friend. She says she always gets 2 tickets for the dress rehearsal and usually can't find anyone to use them.

Broken legs to The Vixter!

Wish I could see DR The Vixter in THE WEDDING SINGER!
My parents went to the "grandparents performance" this morning -- its essentially an invited dress rehearsal
my Mom couldn't find her on the stage - we forgot to mention that she is wearing a "big hair' super curly auburn wig for most of the show
sorta like this
-
That's lovely, Vixmom. Simply lovely. The only thing that could make it better is if she wore leopard spots too.
-
except when she is the old lady ... then her hair looks something like this
-
then when she becomes the Cyndy Lauper impersonator her hair looks like this

Is it windy? They say it is windy.

Well, as planned, I spent most of my first day here in Chicago at the Art Institute of Chicago (http://www.artic.edu/aic/). I paid my now ritual visit to the Caillebotte and Seurat paintings, and then I spent the next four(!) hours going through the Renzo Piano Modern Wing. When I was here two years ago, the new Modern Wing opened the day after I left, so... WOW! There's a LOT of Art in that new wing. A LOT. It got to the point where I would turn a corner and just start laughing in disbelief at just how much Art was in there. It kept going and going and going... I didn't even make it to any of the main galleries in the main building. So, I might go back tomorrow or Monday and remedy that.
However, what I did see today was amazing. The new building is beautiful, and it's nice to see how the AIC re-arranged and re-structured their 20th Century collection. There were also a couple of special exhibits that were quite thought-provoking and entertaining. There is also a walkway from the Modern Wing right into Millennium Park - and that was a nice way to "escape" for lunch.

Thank you, DR Vixmom. I talked to the campus social worker today about my aunt. She said she's lucid, but not really "connecting the dots." That's a perfect description.

It wasn't too windy today, but it was cold. It is cold. I did pack some sweaters, however, I may have to make a stop into Marshall Field'sMacy's to buy a pair of gloves.

Somehow I failed to mention that tonight was opening night for The Wedding Singer at the Vixter's school - she plays assorted wedding guests, one of the "Losers at Table 9" , an old lady in the shopping mall and the Cyndi Lauper impersonator.
Hmm... A high school doing The Wedding Singer?
Now that's what comes of Men and Women dancing!

OH! That's right! I'm now on Mountain Time.

Do you have a medicine cabinet stocked with Tums and Bean-O too? ;)

DR Jane - Since I will be down near the Chicago French Market tomorrow, I shall have to give Vanille Patisserie a try. :)

I was surprised --- they are usually quite conservative ... and apparently there was a small amount of last minute censorship imposed after the morning show - a couple of lines apparently were not said this evening - I wonder if the actors will "slip" on the closing night
Hmm... A high school doing The Wedding Singer?

You know, I saw the tour of "The Wedding Singer." I don't remember any of it. I didn't remember it at the time I saw it, either.

Am braising oxtails for dinner. Have never made this before, and it's rather disgusting. But the flavor has always haunted me. Definitely in my top five favorite dishes. I just may have to leave the cooking of it up to others, though.
Well... Aren't most oxtail recipes "set it and forget it"? -At least after you set up the braise.

Paul and I went to CEDAR RAPIDS (the movie) tonight. The jokes are pretty crude and it could be offensive to some people, but we laughed and laughed and laughed. And, we were the only people there for the 7:25 showing, so it was a private showing. Now that's what I called a VIP pass!
-
FJL --- what confuses me most is why you would want to go back to ta board that has treated you so shabbily
-
Oh, i didn't mention that I got an email from the newspaper today telling me that my movie pass had arrived at the theater and that they were giving me an extra month...until the end of April 2012!! So, I took the pass I got in the mail (that expired March 30) and traded it for the pass that expires April 30. cool beans

No. I think that's really so I don't just pass the pass around. I don't think they'll ever ask if people are with me

The truck driver peeled an orange and sectioned it and then squirted spray cheese on the section and ate it.
-
And Sandra was sorry she didn't think of it first!
-
And speaking of cooking...
Due to a few well-timed phone calls - and some hopeful wishing ;) - I managed to snag two seats for a special dinner here in Chicago this Sunday at The Publican (http://thepublicanrestaurant.com/). Chef Gabrielle Hamilton has a new memoir out called, "Blood, Bones & Butter: The Inadvertent Education of a Reluctant Chef" (http://bloodbonesandbutter.net/). To celebrate the release of the book, Chef Hamilton and Chef Paul Kahan will be re-creating the first menu presented in that book.
What's sort of funny about this is that Gabrielle Hamilton is the Chef-Owner of Prune (http://prunerestaurant.com/) in New York City. Additionally, it turns out some of my fellow NYC-based Foodies are also in town this week for this dinner here in Chicago.

I wonder if your chef will make Orange with Spray Cheese, Jose.

sounds like a perfect appetizer before an entree of floop

but I was referring to the now lost diabetic gerbil quote

well it is now midnight so i guess i should think about sleeping

I have no idea. Nor did she. She says the most bizarre things while doing her taxes.

Well they are the same color. Maybe the trucker is a monochromatic eater

She has an idea for a video to showcase our new kitchen countertops.

So perhaps we can work on that this weekend.

DR Jane - Sorry to hear of the passing of DD Sherlock's brother.

Wow, Arizona just drove Duke off the road to the Final Four - decisively!

Finished with my viewing for the evening.

Remember my kvetching last night about Dayton Opera ticket prices? One of my book group friends sings in the chorus and offered Richard and me the 2 free tickets she gets for the dress rehearsal!
Kvetch and ye shall receive!
;D
-
So perhaps we can work on that this weekend.
I just hope you won't need another new oven and countertop after this weekend.
-
I grew up eating oxtail stew and it was fantastic. I only made it once & learned what happens if you use too much barley. ;D
No barley in my recipe. Just onions, red wine, seasonings, garlic and shallots. And oxtail.
I was twenty when I made it & can't remember if there was wine. Try adding some barley next time just don't add too much. By the next morning is had absorbed all the liquid. ;D
Barley and the human liver.
Served with fava beans and a nice chianti?

Oh...
And sad to hear about the passing of playwright, Lanford Wilson (http://www.playbill.com/news/article/149169-Lanford-Wilson-Leading-American-Playwright-Dies-at-73).
*Especially right after Helen Stenborg had passed. Helen was in the original cast of three of his plays: The Hot L Baltimore, The Fifth of July, and Talley and Son.

vixmom - The owners of All that Chat have treated me disgracefully, but the people there overall have not, and it is the main chat board in NYC to discuss specifically theater.
-
I ate some frijoles with cheese and salsa for dinner - 300 calories and no fat grams. I'm ready to vomit on the ground. Listening to the release that will follow Monday's release two weeks later - what music! And the film is probably a personal favorite of some genre lovers around these here parts.
-
It's the Attack of the WUSSBURGERS.
-
At Cannibal! rehearsal tonight, we danced and danced and just when we couldn't dance anymore, we danced. We essentially learned most, but not all of the song, "Hang the Bastard!" It took three hours and we still didn't finish. We have about 16 bars of music, then it's all choreographed.
