sing, did you resolve your Amazon customer service problem?

Well, yes and no.  The original pacakge is still "pending delivery," and I've given up on that.  However, after a few very strong emails and phone calls [I'm learning from bk! :) ], they solved it by shipping a replacement package by a more reliable method.  And that package has been received.

In my CD player right now:  the new (only) soundtrack to Disney's Enchanted, with songs by Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz.

TOD: I just hit play on the cd player at the office, and it still had the Kerry compilation Christmas cd in it.

We had water draining off the roof at the church; I guess a pipe burst from the cold last night. Said water froze and then drained all day as it melted. Luckily a man who knows how to fix things was there, and he made the necessary repair.

No packages for me today - two are now overtly overdue and I'm not happy about it.  Have written both people e-mails.  However, I'm quite certain that one of them is at the mail place, lost - you remember I got a slip that said there were TWO envelope-sized packages for me, but they only had one.  They either don't want to admit their mistake, or they've misplaced it, because there's no way this thing would take twenty-two days to get here via overseas first class e-mail.  The other things that were shipped from overseas at exactly the same time got here two weeks ago.

DR MattH, I'm not sure if both seasons 1 & 2 of Ghost Whisperer are out yet. But you should check them out.  Especially the finale episodes (was that season 1 or 2?).  There was a 2 or 3 parter that was so riveting. It was the best episodes of the show for me!

For those people on other websites who are still trying to say that the box-office of Sweeney is somehow stellar and that the marketing department has never tried to hide the fact that it's a musical, check out the latest ads - there's a full-page in the LA Weekly - the banner across the top of the ad is one of the worst adlines I've ever seen - THE PASSION OF SWEENEY TODD.  Then there's Depp, standing there with that holster thing that makes the film seem like a western.  No mention of Mr. Sondheim, singing or anything else.  No quotes.  And a border around the entire ad that looks like something out of Tim Burtonland.  If a film is performing up to and over expectations they do NOT change the ad campaign.  If it isn't, they do - it's also dropped from two Arclight Theaters to one.

I'll see it tomorrow at six and can't wait.

Cool!  And taking after you, I just ordered the original London cast recording of Parade. :) I also bought the London Palladium cast recording of Scrooge with Tommy Steele.  Both were only £10.20 each.

You flew transcontinental in one day and your luggage arrived with you!

This, dear Ron, is NOT a travel day from hell!

But we're glad to have you back safe and sound.

 ;D Far from a travel day from hell, unpleasant waiting yes.  From what I could tell you weren't stuck on the plane those extra two hours, something else to be grateful for.

For those people on other websites who are still trying to say that the box-office of Sweeney is somehow stellar

FANTASY MOGULS

Quote
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (Dreamworks/Paramount) was down for a third straight day, falling to No. 9 with $2.23 million and a $1,788 PTA. It is a film of undisputed brilliance, but it would have benefited from a platform rollout instead of the "cash grab" of a 1,788 location run. The studio took a "bait and switch" approach, essentially "tricking" younger moviegoers into seeing a horror film, which turned out to be a Sondheim musical. The perception of commercial failure, along with the (literally) rivers of blood spilled in the movie may conspire to keep this one out of the Best Picture category (although director Tim Burton and star Johnny Depp seem like locks with plenty of attention in the technical categories as well).

Matt H, ZODIAC arrived from NetFlix & is waiting to be watched.  I don’t think it has any special clips on it, I’ll have to check.

Jose, I’m so happy you liked the WATER HORSE.  I’ve enjoyed the reviews and am looking forward to the film.

LOWER EAST SIDE MATZO FACTORY FOR SALE

{xxx} = my comments

Quote
Friday, December 28, 2007

By VERENA DOBNIK, Associated Press Writer

NEW YORK —  Long after most of its customers left the neighborhood to pursue the American Dream, the last matzo factory on the Lower East Side is moving out, saying goodbye to a part of town that was once home to hundreds of thousands of immigrant Jews.

Streit's, a family-owned matzo-making giant that churns out 16,000 pounds of unleavened bread a day and has been on the Lower East side for nearly three-quarters of a century, is putting the property up for sale.

It hopes to get $25 million for the antiquated six-story building in a part of New York where tenements and sweatshops have given way to fine hotels and condos, expensive restaurants and trendy nightclubs.

"We're doing this with a heavy heart," said Aaron Gross, the great-great-grandson of founder Aron Streit, an Austrian immigrant. "We're America's last family-owned matzo factory."

The red-brick factory will keep producing matzo until the family builds a new one in about a year, probably in New Jersey.

The 32-year-old matzo heir said it is just too difficult to keep manufacturing in the city. The streets are too congested for the company's tractor-trailers, and he gets regular complaints about the loud machines that mix, roll and cut the dough before it is baked in two 72-foot-long steel ovens.

{the factory was thre when the neighbors moved in - get used to it!}

While many blocks of the Lower East Side are seedy, gentrification has swept the neighborhood since the 1980s. The elegant Beaux Arts structure built in 1912 for the Yiddish-language newspaper The Jewish Daily Forward _ which boasted a circulation of 275,000 in the 1920s _ has been converted into million-dollar condos. (The Forward says circulation for its Yiddish edition, now a weekly, is down to just 5,000, the English-language edition to 35,000.)

{So much for the "immigrants never assimilate" theory!}

The factory doesn't appear to have changed all that much since a photograph from a half century ago that shows a group of rabbis in white coats supervising production to make sure it's kosher. Many of the 60 employees have been working there for decades.

{60 bread winners move to bread lines because neighbors don't like the noise of honest work!}

ZODIAC - Rated R for some strong killings, language, drug material and brief sexual images.

Looks like a thinly disguised attempt by Jane to get some extra hugging from Keith!

Angel's Camp, which isn't too far from where my Dad lives, in Sonora.  Very nice area!

A very nice area.  We met friends nearby one New Years Eve.  The boys spent the day skiing with their family while Keith & I drove around sight seeing.
