I did want to mention one thing that I've been SO happy about the last few days and kept forgetting to bring it up.

The other day on TCM was Jennifer Jones day, and TCM showed one of my favorite Jones' pictures GOOD MORNING, MISS DOVE. The Fox Movie Channel often shows this Cinemascope film, but they always broadcast it in pan and scan which completely ruins the look and feel of the movie.

TCM showed it properly letterboxed the other day. I can't wait to see it in its proper aspect ratio. I just hope it was a good copy and not plagued with atmospheric interference (which sometimes happens on TCM's broadcasts here.)

Thursday afternoon greetings.  We are home from a very long day that we will always remember as John's funeral.  It began with another hour of visitation at the church, followed by a 90-minute service in which Richard read 2 of the scripture selections, oldest daughter Rev. Amy delivered the eulogy, and youngest daughter Lauren sang "The Lord's Prayer."  How any of them did it, I'll never know.  The Franklin Township Fire Department (which he served as assistant chief) took over at the conclusion of the service and here's the ride they had waiting to take John to the cemetery:

And here's how we were greeted at the cemetery gates.  You can just see the front of the fire truck entering the right side of the photo.  Richard, Rob, and I are in the tan car just ahead of them.

Am I correct that he'd been a volunteer fireman since before 1979 when I mved to NYC? Or did he tell me that on one of my visits to Ohio?

DR Elmore - John was a volunteer firefighter in Covington, OH, where he had his first teaching assignment in the late 1960s or early '70s.  He was with Franklin Twp/Hunter throughout the 1970s and early '80s.

Yes, the book for WICKED definitely has problems. Given that, I much prefer the show to the novel from which it was adapted. I found it dark, bleak, and endlessly depressing.

Which is why I loved the book, which itself has third act problems. . .
I didn't want WICKED to be light reading, and it (and its sequels) certainly aren't light.  But the things that made me love Gregory Maguire's WICKED world are just the things which would not work in Winnie Holzman's WICKED musical world, though there are still some remnants of the politics which made the novel work as a book and set up story lines to be continued through the next few novels.
WICKED, the musical, I adore for what it is - warts and all, which is more than I can say for THE BAKER'S WIFE. . .but, we'll not go onto that tangent right now.
Had the authors of WICKED - the musical - musicalized the novel, it would not be running today. . .

Good morning, all! I'm going in early to work on the McGlinnventory since my paralegal Geri can only work till noon today. I figure with the delays I've given her the past month, this is the least I can do! If I leave by 8:30, I can be there by 9:15, which is an hour earlier than my usual schedule.

After that, back here to fret about some payment issues for which I could use some some Big Vibes: the asses at the Library of Congress haven't paid us, PHI has mysteriously not paid us today, which is usually the end of the invoice wait, and the recording check from last month hasn't arrived. I'm $2.00 overdrawn, and unless something magical happens in the post today or the PHI bank transfer, I'm royally screwed. So, DRs, I could use some vibes. Big ones.
