Well, you've read the notes, the notes were very June-like, and now it is time for you to post until the June-like cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: LOGODAEDALY!
-
Good Morning to all
-
ASK BK
When you were doing publicity for your memoir "There's Mel, There's Woody, and There's You": My Life in the Slow Lane (available at kritzerland.com) were there any questions you were prepared to answer, but were never asked?
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
good morning, all.
-
off to work.
-
Broken leg vibes for the Gardenia cast and crew.
-
Great theater stories last night, Jose.
-
What I learned from yesterday's posts:
There is a flood warning in Iowa.
DR MBARNUM has a camera.
Tonight is the Gardenia show and somebody better shape up or ship out.
There is a new baby girl at DR LAURA's church.
DR JOSE rode in a limo with the Phantom of the Opera all the way up to 86th St.
-
Thanks for the continued Ernie vibes.....we shall see what today brings.
-
Last night the house was 3/4's full for the "Family Night" - which means a lot of those folks weren't FAMILY!
They were a fairly lively crowd and gave us some nice laughs and applause.
-
Wednesday morning greetings! Another get-acquainted lunch with the senior center development director today and then another trip to the grocery to get the things that we ran out of as soon as I got home yesterday.
-
Of all the Gardenia shows thus far, tonight's is the one I'd like most to attend. Break a leg, BK and company!
-
@ @ @ @ @ BREAKING OF LEGS TO CAST AND CREW AND CREATOR OF TONIGHT'S GARDENIA SHOW @ @ @ @ @
-
BK,
I'll make a deal with you:
Your book signing at Mystery & Imagination in Glendale is on Saturday, June 18th.
That same day, I'm giving a talk and signing books at the Faulk Public Library here in Austin.
So, I'll come to your event...if you'll come to mine.
::)
-
In the meantime, much leg breaking at tonight's show.
-
And the word of the day is: LOGODAEDALY!
Tyne's sibling?
-
Good morning, all! I slept very very late, and I have nothing much on my agenda today. I'll spend about four hours on proofing the Act One Finale and see how far I get. Otherwise, it will be a day of liesure. I worked hard enough over the holiday weekend.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Vibes to BK and Cast for Tonight's Gardenia Show! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
Yes you did, DR ELMORE.
You deserve a day of liesure....whatever that is.
Doh! LOL, DR Laura!
-
DR JRand, got the book and the CD yesterday! Thanks very, very much!!
I brought the CD to work today so I'd have some 'tunes.
-
A song inspired from last night's post:
Substandard gal,
You're not the best of stage crew,
Substandard gal,
You've missed another light que!
Before another diva fades into black,
Please give her a little light
Then I just might not attack!
It's getting later, dear--push up that fader!
Good Morning! Good Afternoon!
I'm up, I'm up... And today is supposed to be the hottest day of the year so far in NYC. (ugh)
They were a fairly lively crowd and gave us some nice laughs and applause.
Bruce have an excellent show tonight!
-
It's June 1 and pouring rain at 9:45am. What is up with this???
-
Great theater stories last night, Jose.
Thank You, DR JohnG. -The past couple of days have been filled with some wonderful "only in NYC" experiences, and, I have to say, that even though I know I'll have a wonderful time back down in DC over the next couple of months, I'm already starting to miss The City.
I've also started getting some "Will you like to join us again?" invites from the various food festivals that I've become unofficial correspondents for over the past two summers. Alas, none of those events are held on Mondays.
-
DR JOSE rode in a limo with the Phantom of the Opera all the way up to 86th St.
DR JRand - Just a clarification: It was a "town car", not a "limo". ;)
Glad you got the package DR MBARNUM....enjoy the musica!
DR ELMORE - it was very surreal listening to the Camelot CD.....and looking at the photos from the OBC from the CD I have.....thanks so much.
I never know in advance what's going to be asked, really, and don't want to. And I probably would have answered any questions - can't think of any that would have been weird.
-
Thank you Jose.
JMK we have returned to the hotel over the years & always stop to visit the swans. It has been awhile we should see if they are still there.
46, that is great!!!
The lousy weather kind of put a damper on our day plans. I'm about to walk sherlock while Keith is at the gym. instead of dinner out we will go for lunch, possibly at Larks where we took DR MBarnum.
-
Thank you DR elmore.
-
I'm up, I'm up. It took a while for me to fall asleep last night - just too many things rolling around in the windmills of my mind.
-
Then I was awakened about about nine-forty by the doorbell. It was Fed Ex delivering me a note from Harvey Schmidt - he and Tom have decided they just don't like the musical performances on The Fantasticks soundtrack and would rather not have it out there. I could still do it, but they are friends of mine and so why bother with something that would make them unhappy. Plus, it's probably best in a way, as it would be costly to mix the orchestral-only cues and then I just don't think sales would be that great.
-
I really have no idea if we're having an audience tonight or not. We have five in my party, and three in the thirteen-year-old's party and that's honestly all I'm aware of. But I've grown weary of trying to get people off their ASSES - we've had very loyal folks come to most of these, but I have a whole slew of people I know who've not come to one single show. That's just wacky to me. And a few of our loyal regulars couldn't come tonight. So, any of our West Coasters reading this, pick up the phone, make a reservation, and come on down.
Happy Anniversary!!!!!!
I suspect you will have a better hose than you suspect. Every show you seem to get concerned about this, and I also think life in cabare, from my experience in the early 1980s is easier if you don't let the size of the crowd get to you. If the Gardenia wants to book you, let them deal with dragging in the audience; it's their income.
Since I know how entertaining you are, an audience of 1 will enjoy iself as much as if the house were full, although it may be harder to be happy with an audience of one. I know it will be a good show tonight and I'd worry more about the new performer with the memorization problems than the size of the audience! Maybe he's praying for a small crowd?
It all balances out sometimes. I keep telling myself that and the damned phone still isn't ringing.
How VERY disappointing. Granted, the vocals by the men were certainly not Broadway (or even off-Broadway) calibre, but the entire score is presented so beautifully that having a thousand (or a few more) CDs of the entire soundtrack should not be an issue.
What a loss.
Never gonna run around and DESSERT you - and Floop Cake is a DESSERT - coincidence? :)
I am also sorry not to have the FANTASTICKS soundtrack, but there are many stage versions available to enjoy.
Regifting, huh? I can't remember now if I gave you two anything or not, so I won't worry that I'm the patsy.
This week, it seems like every time I turn on the Broadway Channel on Sirius XM I hear the song, "Always True to You in My Fashion." Good Evening!
Well... No tornados here in New York City... Alas, there were some deadly ones in Massachusetts... :-\
-
...And when I headed out earlier, there was a major delay on the 4/5/6 trains due to "an earlier incident". Alas, it turned out that a woman fainted on the platform (most likely overcome by the heat), and fell onto the tracks just as a train was coming into the station... :-\
G'night!
In other news...
I checked in with my parents earlier to see if anything was planned for my Mom's birthday this weekend. It turns out they're in Delaware this week at a friend's timeshare. They will be back in Richmond on Friday, but they'll be volunteering once again at the Richmond Filipino Festival on Friday night and Saturday morning. I checked in with my brothers to see if they had planned anything, and, right now, they haven't planned anything either. In either case, I'll be heading down to Fairfax Friday morning.
I have received word that my Aunt Jo has been taken to our local hospital because she has pneumonia. My mother suspected as much 10 days ago. My cousin who lives in Georgia emailed me and asked that I check on her tomorrow, which I will do. Prayers and vibes would be appreciated.
I doubt it since Porter used a ton of celebrity names in "You're the Top," and I can think of the following: "Let's not Talk about Love" begins with:
"Let's speak of LaMarr, that Hedy so fair
Why does she let joan Bennett wear all her old hair?"
"Farming" includes:
"Now don't inquire of Georgie Raft
Why his cow has never calfed
Georgie's bull is beautiful but he's gay."
and
"The natives think it's utterly utter
When Margie Hart starts churning her butter"
or
"Miss Elsa Maxwell, so the folks tattle
Got well goosed while dehorning her cattle"
I doubt it since Porter used a ton of celebrity names in "You're the Top," and I can think of the following: "Let's not Talk about Love" begins with:
"Let's speak of LaMarr, that Hedy so fair
Why does she let joan Bennett wear all her old hair?"
"Farming" includes:
"Now don't inquire of Georgie Raft
Why his cow has never calfed
Georgie's bull is beautiful but he's gay."
and
"The natives think it's utterly utter
When Margie Hart starts churning her butter"
or
"Miss Elsa Maxwell, so the folks tattle
Got well goosed while dehorning her cattle"
I can't imagine that just mentioning a person's name would require their permission. Using their image requires permission, but not just saying a name...anyone could have that name.
Just my 2¢.
We had a lovely Freedom Day. We met BK's assistant in Cabazon, CA and transferred the movie reels to her car. Then we ate lunch and came home. The End.
...Well, I hope with that tale there is a "To Be Continued".
With all the talk of Cole Porter's lyrics I am reminded of the parody lyrics for You're The Top (that may or may not have been written by him)
You're the top!
You're Miss Pinkham's tonic
You're the top
You're a high colonic
You're the burning heat of a bridal suite in use
You're the breast of Venus
You're King Kong's penis
You're self-abuse
You're an arch
In the Rome collection
You're the starch
In a grooms's erection
I'm a enuch who
Has just been through an op
But if Baby, I'm the bottom
You're the top!
We'll see if any of the photos turned out.
Broken Legs BK, would much rather be there than in a parking lot filling sand bags, which is what I will be doing
In a nutshell, Dakota Dunes South Dakota (just across the state line and really part of the Siouxland area) they are to evacuate starting tomorrow, but I think maybe they've been given a little more time because the town was shut down today so the national guard could work on a dike. Anyway, they are told that their homes will be innundated and they should expect to be gone for 2 months. If the dike works, well, maybe they won't be innundated, but at least part of the town probably will anyway.
Sioux City, our biggest problem is the water well caps and an intake. They are built to 500 year flood standards, but this will be above the 500 year flood. Supposedly they are already sand bagged high enough so that it's ok now. Well, that's what they say. There are several businesses including the Hilton Garden Hotel, a great restaurant, Bev's On the River, an industrial complex and other businesses that will be flooded.. they are building dikes, but.... South of town at Port Neal, there is a huge electric power station, they are building a dike there too. If that doesn't hold...well that could be a mess.
South Sioux City could have major problems. They are building a couple different levees and walls, but are just getting started. People are building sandbag walls around their homes etc. There are signs on street corners asking for volunteers to sandbag
We don't really know what is going to happen. The Army Corps of Engineers innundation maps are based on average rainfall, but this whole year has been anything but average in rainfall. They are going to raise the river to 1098 feet above sea level and the maps are based on sea level in different areas. It's actually quite interesting. Today they changed the numbers for McCook Lake, SD and said that it was going to be worse than expected.
It's the strangest thing. We are all sand bagging, people who live along the river are all packing up and moving all their belongings out of their homes, so there are trucks and vans and semi's everywhere being loaded with furniture. Is it all necessary? Well, we don't know. We are all just waiting for the water to see where it goes
-
The other weird thing is all the National Guard, the helicpoters, exits on the interstate closed, cars and trucks backed up for miles to get to the Dunes (unlike other places, traffic here moves on a normal day). Things have come to a standstill. Emails go out constantly telling people who needs help. There are facebook pages with people looking for foster homes for their pets and storage areas. It's just bizarre
We were intrigued by this menu item:
So Sandra ordered it to go along with her peanut butter pie:
