David's waiting for me in a booth in the dining room, which is as big as a ballroom, the tables covered in linen, the patrons - birthday celebrants, deal-cutters, a pouting ingenue paying more attention to her compact than her consort - tucking into porterhouse steaks and shoestring fries.
"Bull Shot?" asks David, referring to an old-school drink served at Musso's: a Bloody Mary made with rich beef broth instead of tomato juice. We order two, spicy.
While it is hard to pass up the classic steak and spuds (the latter done 12 ways at Musso's), today i order crab Louis and am brought a dinner plate of iceberg lettuce tricked up with pickled beet and a C-cup's worth of Dungeness crab. It is cold, it is flaky; it has the metallic ting of the sea. But I'm not here for culinary revelations. With a schooner of house-made Thousand Island dressing, chewy French bread, and a tablemate telling stories about industry naughtiness, I am the latest in a long line of Hollywood girls who could not be happier to be doing exactly this.
Makes 1
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/8 teaspoon celery salt
Ice cubes
1/4 cup vodka
3/4 cup chilled double-rich double strength canned beef broth
Lime wedge
Mix Worcestershire and salt in glass. Add ice cubes. Pour vodka, then broth over. Garnish with lime wedge.
It snowed another 2 inches here in Indiana last night. DR JOEY's county of Hancock and my county of Morgan were already under flood emergencies, and when it gets warm later today - MORE water. I have never seen some of the creeks and waterways SO deep.
I just notice the AIDS activist and playwright Larry Krammer (The Normal Heart) wrote the screenplay for Lost Horizon.
.... and I must admit - I do get some sort of guilty pleasure when I watch the musical version of "LOST HORIZON" .... Burt's music is fine ~ but what was Hal thinking of with those lyrics?????
..... "the world is a circle without a beginning and nobody knows where it really ends" !!!!!!!!!!
They have a picture of one of the waiters presiding over the dining room on page 108. Perhaps our esteemed BK will recognize him!
- I'm always afraid to try buttons when I'm not sure what they do.
Today's topic is the 444th topic!
It's true that this is the deepest it's been. It's the worst flooding in 100 years in some areas of southern Indiana who just got hit with the two feet of snow before Christmas. I am seeing water in places I have never seen it my entire life.
Back from brekkies.... Oatmeal and blueberries (frozen) - I think DR Panni has had some influence on me. And, yes, the blueberries are from Trader Joe's.
And now I'm sucking on a zinc lozenge.
...Isnt' this just too too exciting?
I am sure there is going to be a nice long list of B & D songs,
Is there any penalty for trespassing traffic rules concerned with using your cell phone while you drive in your place???
Happy Birthday, DR Elvis (you never know).
I took some photos on my walk with Abie. So here are some On Location photos of The Storm of 2005...

Panni thanks for the pics. I must admit I had expected to see more water on the streets. It appears while the rain has eased up the water is draining quickly.
Let's see if this works as the link for the Lost Horizon: The Musical's trailer.OK, I've watched it.

I think someone should come up with a new dance craze called the Cameltoe Limbo...Don't ask me to describe it! DansssseSsssalome!
The Green Grass Starts To Grow
I don't really like any of the Bayer Sager or Costello lyrics much - I do not like "They're Playing Our Song" - the musical nor the songs from it.
No one, and I mean no one, should be allowed to watch the musical LOST HORIZON on a full stomach!
I just notice the AIDS activist and playwright Larry Krammer (The Normal Heart) wrote the screenplay for Lost Horizon.
Surmounting all obstacles, MacMan arrives at Chez Kimmel to install wireless set-up:

There's a nice version of "Green Grass" on the latest Percy Faith reissue, I Think I Love You.Early for me - wasn't it about Bacharach's romance or something. Was meant to be writing how much I do not like CBS lyrics. Now Should I go back = that is the question.
Don't know if you meant to imply this, but Playing our Song is Hamlisch, not Bacharach.
Did you notice elmore left without saying hello? I'm on my way to the Madre of Sierra and will return shortly. Hopefully some denizens will have arrived by then and hopefully someone will have answered my Mac question by then.

JRand-that little red x is why I stopped doing page dances, got tired of the dance turning into an x.
Oh, boy, do we ever come to a parting of the ways there. I found the show great fun, and I love the score. Thanks to Guy Haines' wonderful rendition of "Fallin'," it gave me the idea to start using this at auditions. I like it because you seldom hear anyone else ever using it or any of the SONG songs at auditions.
I'm reading the notes as I put all the Overtures (not preludes!!) from my entire Cast Recording collection on my iPod... I'm on "C". However, I was surprised that "Allegro" didn't have an Overture. Is there one and it didn't get recorded?
Hummm...
Brad is..... available???
He needs to get rid of all those tattos!
Shame Tomofoz - Shame !!!!!
DRFrancois, where have you been?
Hooboy, DR Matt, I can't remember where you live, but definitely don't come to Portland with that song! I have played that song countless times in auditions here. Maybe it's a NW thing!
(Still doesn't come close to the auditions I had probably 20 or so years ago where every single one of the sopranos, and I mean every single one, auditioned with Memory, LOL).
Tom does not know shame!I think I've become a character in "Kiss Of The Spider Woman". Which is nothing to do with Blame the Shame on Mame or the Shame being on that soggy plain.
He's above shame!
that's why we like him here! ;) :D
Your question is answered Elmore!!!
I'm listening to a very pretty score by Angelo Badalamente for something called A Very Long Engagement. Is the film worth seeing?
This morning's view from our bedroom.
Thanks, DR elmore, I knew you would know. Do you know if the aformentioned CD is still in print?
elmore-GOOD HEALTH VIBES!!
Does no one have an answer to my Mac question about highlighting?
This morning's view from our bedroom.
I am now listening to Howard Shore's about to be released score for The Aviator. It's better on CD than in the film, where it is mixed so low you can barely hear it.I still say that sections of it are very similar to George Clinton's score for AMELIA EARHART - THE FINAL FLIGHT. (And sections of Clinton's score are very similar to Ravel's Bolero.)
Betsy, the boys, BeeGee and I will be down in just a few hours or so to move in with you. :D We want snow, darn it!!
Jennifer, are you attached to your television set?
I went back to look at DR Jane's pic. It IS lovely.
We also have a phenomenon known as the SINK hole. Nasty things. They have been known to swallow houses and cars up whole.
Yes, it looks like a Currier & Ives' postcard, doesn't it?
I have a question, DRs. (It's a technical thing for a script.) If a person were driving on a highway from one place in Iowa to another place in Iowa, would one refer to driving on the "Interstate"...? This may seem like an odd question, but I hate to get things like this wrong (it's just in the Stage Directions) - and I don't know much about the proper references when it comes Interstate and Freeway, et al.I've driven quite a bit in Iowa, and I have heard people say both "the Interstate" as well as "the freeway", but, even more commonly, "I80", or "the 20", or whatever particular number they were going to use.
Thanks in advance.
The Lovely Wife and I are about to depart in this grim-grey, drizzling crap to go and see the Lemony Snickett film. It better be worth it. Yuck! I just want to curl back in my warm bed and read or sleep.
This official site mentions highways, not freeways.

I have one friend who leaves the refrigerator open all the time. She is a very good friend so I just yell at her. ;)
The rain just keeps comin'. There has been so much rain in the last there days that we now have the phenomenon known as the pot hole occuring here and there. The little side street that leads to Carny's and Staples and Jerry's and Bed and Bath is almost undriveable so littered with pot holes is it.
Francois - You'll be glad to know that I always turn off the lights, etc. in a hotel room - leaving only one bedside light on (if it's night) so I won't come into a dark room.
:o.... and does she shut up... her mouth?
--OH! I get it!!
It might be that, since people are in the City of Lights.... like Vegas, I guess!
Never thought of that! ;)
Staples and Jerry's? Is that where they
sell edible frozen office supplies?
I shall now drown my sports-induced sorrows with copious amounts of Dr. Pepper.
At least, dear cyber son, I can now go drown my Seahawk's sorrows in baseball history for the next few hours.
Jane;
"Basics": have you done a Google search for that painter?
Just a thought!
I once had an ice cream with a staple in it that got pinned in my tongue!
True story!
The good part? I got the ice cream free! :D
That is all? Ouch! I'm sure the cool ice cream felt very soothing. :D
That was many years ago in Toulouse (I did not win!!) on my way first time visit to Spain (Pain before Spain!!

rats, Jane left...well maybe she'll be back
Which brings to mind the classic Monty Python episode where the repeated phrase "No time to lose" magically transmogrifies into an inspired piece by Terry Gilliam of a certain diminutive French painter transported to the Old West and held aloft by his pistol holsters, entitled "No Time Toulouse."
Isn't there a major art museum in Portland? 'Bet they have a good art reference library.
Do any of you have any idea how horrifying it is to be awakened by Mushroom People? I may have to Limbo to recover.

I'm now thinking about going for a drive, just because I'm feeling a little antsy.
Oh, I’m reading DAUGHTER OF TIME by Josephine Tey
Are there any Hainsie/Kimlets who want to come in to New York for Penny's opening night festivities? We could make it a grand HHW get-together, partay with the star after the show at Joe Allen's and have a grand old time! I'm sure we can count on Ben and Baxter, Noel, Elan, perhaps Vixmom and WFO, perhaps SWW and Der Brucer would come up - it would be great to see them again - and DRJose will be in the show! Maybe we can convince some out-of-town midwesterners or West Coasters to come East?
Maybe we can convince some out-of-town midwesterners or West Coasters to come East? You know, when PennyO was talking about her show the other day, I actually looked at the workshop schedule at the Foundation Center to see if I could justify a trip! Alas, I don't think it will work out, but I was very, very tempted!
Wow! Just watched Vera Drake. What a superb performance by Imelda Staunton. I'd never heard of her before this film, but she is phenomenal.
What Brit show was Imelda Staunton in?
