Fletcher is sound asleep on my bed, and if you're smart you'll leave him be or else he might come over and lay down on top of you!

He's such a cuddle-puppy!   :D

:D  Sherlock was extra cuddly this morning & gave me loads of nose blows & nose kisses, which are much better than tongue kisses on a dog that size.

Back from UD, where I taught in a fantastic new space that had double screens for my database demo.

DR elmore - You can buy "bed risers" for your frame.  A couple of different companies make them, and they come in various heights.  I'm sure the store down the street from you carries them.

I wouldn't feel secure on top on those.

Very interesting, DR Singdaw.  I got a little taste of that kind of work serving as librarian for the church choir.  Bet that orchestra librarian doesn't have to step over bottom-feeders to do her job  ::).

Umm... I guess you've never hung around double-bass players.  ;)

Edi, nice bed.

Elmore, rod iron beds are in style right now & come in a wide range of styles & prices.  You should be able to find one suitable for your needs.  Check the used furniture stores too.

I also think one will look very nice in your place.  Good luck!

The sun finally peered from behind the clouds and it has turned into a pretty day. Still cold, but not wretchedly cold like the last few days.

I began my afternoon by watching last night's SVU, in my opinion the best episode of the season. A container of frozen embryos is stolen, and there's a mad rush to get them back before the liquid nitrogen dissipates and they're destroyed. Then, once they're found, there's more sad findings. Lots of sad stories along the way that were all very intriguing and any one of which could have made for an excellent hour drama.

Next, I watched four JAG episodes. One seemed very similar in tone and story to A FEW GOOD MEN. Corbin Bernsen plays a judge advocate in several of these episodes.

The Christmas edition was called "The Ghost of Christmas Past" and in it, the story moves back to 1969 with the cast all playing different characters. The widescreen shrinks to the old 4:3 ratio, and it had the potential to be something really unique. Sadly, some of the actors were overparted. Karri Turner did a lousy impression of Phyllis Diller, and Catherine Bell was impersonating a "famous" singer called Jenny Lake, though her singing voice was barely adequate. David James Elliott was playing his father, so other than wearing a mustache, he had the least to do in terms of turning in a different characterization from the fellow he normally plays.

An unusual episode, and it did show us how Harm's father got shot down and when, but otherwise, it was a gimmick show lacking in the drama that is a hallmark of the series.

You're welcome. I knew you were a regular viewer. I believe this is the last new episode of the show available as is tonight's CSI: NY.

Since there are so many librarians on HHW, thought it might be of interest to some to peek into the world of a music librarian for a symphony orchestra, here.

That is quite interesting.  Thanks for posting this. :)

Here's a great story:  When we left for church Sunday, Richard had a huge garment bag containing his clerical garb, a briefcase, and an audiobook from my library (checked out on my card).  We stopped for breakfast and when we were on the highway he suggested we start listening to the book.  It was nowhere to be found in the car, so he suspected that he'd set in on top of the car in the garage and forgotten about it.  We fully expected to find it in the garage or driveway, but did not.  He retraced our route to the breakfast place and didn't find it.  He said, "I guess I'll have to pay Dayton Metro Library for an audiobook."

I had reason a few minutes ago to look at my record and noticed that that particular title was no longer on my "Items Out" list.  Further investigation revealed that it had been checked in at one of our branches at 11:20 this morning.  I called the manager there and he said a woman had called him this morning about a book on CD that she'd found in Middletown.  He told her just to mail it, but she must have driven to Dayton to return in in person.  She didn't leave her name, so I guess I'll just have to "pay it forward" someday.

Heading down now to tidy up the house a bit and then back to the home theater for more JAG. I should be able to squeeze in four more episodes before LAW & ORDER at 10.

Warner announcement impact on Blue Ray sales:

THE DIGITAL BITS

Quote
Okay... so the latest hardware sales data from market research firm NPD Group is in, and it reveals that - as one would expect - HD-DVD player sales have also been impacted by the news of Warner's decision to drop the format later this year. One quick note: The data that follows does NOT include sales of Sony's PlayStation 3 or the HD-DVD add-on drive for Microsoft's Xbox 360. These are stand-alone, set-top players only.

First up, let's look at the month of December (weeks ending 12/8 to 12/29), along with the first two weeks of January (weeks ending 1/5 and 1/12)...

As you can see, Blu-ray Disc players outsold HD-DVD players in the month of December here in the States by about a 60/40 margin, and that split has grown to 70/30 in favor of Blu-ray in the first half of January. This despite the fact that HD-DVD players were (on average) some $200 cheaper than Blu-ray players throughout the holiday shopping season.

But the most striking revelation in the data is the change in the hardware sales ratios between the first and second weeks of January (ending 1/5 and 1/12), reflecting the impact of Warner's announcement (and the mainstream media reaction). The graphs below show player sales for each format both before and after Warner's 1/4 press release...

As you can see, HD-DVD player sales dropped dramatically in the week after Warner's announcement, while Blu-ray Disc player sales nearly doubled over the same period.

Ask BK:  if this is unseemly, just ignore and move on, but I'm assuming you receive some kind of revenue from the Google ads at the top.  My question is, does the revenue increase based on the number of hits you receive?  Merely curious...

I wish I received some sort of revenue from the ads at the top, but I do not.  I'm not quite sure I understand the why of it, but it has something to do with the software used to create this board - part of the deal was the ads - I don't know if Bakalor got it free or what, but they've been there from the beginning.
