For myself, it was a true trip down Memory Lane.  Regency Square was the mall to go when I first started at VCU.  Back then, the anchors stores were Thalhimer's and Miller & Rhoads.  Because both stores ended up being turned into Hecht's stores, they then turned into Macy's - which is why there is a Macy's North and a Macy's South in the mall.

However, Regency was also the home of O'Brienstein's Bagel Bakery and Irish Pub.  They were one of the first places in Richmond to make their own New York Style bagels, and they were always hot and fresh.  O'Brienstein's would always place a "free" plate of bagels on the table when you sat down, and they would be accompanied by their own pre-mixed spread of butter and cream cheese.  They had all the standard bagel flavors, and if you happened to arrive at the right time, your favorites were in the basket still warm from the oven. -Or if you had a very friendly server, you could sometimes ask for your favorites.

Sometimes I would head there with some of my classmates between classes, and we would make a lunch out of bagels and drinks.  However, they started to crack down on the "free" bagels, and they started requiring a food purchase if you wanted to have some more "free" bagels.  Well, one day, I was there with my friends Lisa and Jay, and our very kind waitress informed us that a cup of soup from the salad bar qualified as a food purchase, so... For a $1.49, we feasted on bagels and soup.  -Oh, and the cup of soup was also "free refills"!  Well...

There was one time when the three of us decided that we wanted to "share the wealth".  Each time another plate of bagels was set on the table, we would wrap them up in a napkin and put them in our bags... then in our coat pockets.. then in our coat sleeves!  Well, our waitress caught on to what we were doing... And then brought us each a bag of bagels to go! Along with a bag filled with small cups of their bagel spread.

I still remember Jay carrying his jacket out of the restaurant, his sleeves filled with bagels, and then watching him dig bagel after bagel out his jacket sleeves.  I believe I even had some very full pockets. ;) When we got back to the Performing Arts Center for our afternoon classes, we ended up giving out bagels to anyone who happened to be sitting in the lobby, and brought some to our class.  And we still had enough left over to take home for ourselves.  Needless to say, we didn't need to go back to O'Brienstein's that week. ;)

DR JANE - I believe it was the flash that garnered Ms. LuPone's attention.

...And the "bigger" issue here is the lack of monitoring and response of the house and ushering staff.  It really does sound like the audience member was taking a couple of pictures.  He should have been stopped after his second flash.  Although, I'm guessing that since it happened during "Rose's Turn", that most of the ushers were getting ready for exit procedures.  In any case...

It's very interesting how some house staffs enforce the "no recording, no picture taking" rule - law! - and how some seemingly turn a blind eye.  *I'm amazed at the number of pictures and videos from the final performance of Hairspray that have popped up on Facebook.  -Some people even sent their less-than-ideal clips to Harvey Fierstein - who made some appropriately "pithy" comments.  But still... It's like almost every audience member had their camera and/or FlipVideo camera out during that performance.

Hear Patti Lupone stop the show in the incident involving a photographer in the audience that DR Matthew referred to last week: HERE.

Now let me see if I understand this, the guy was thrown out for taking pictures, but the person who recorded this is proud enough to post it on YouTube?

Well... From the quality of the audio, it actually sounds like it was from the soundboard feed.

Just sayin'.

For everyone who was curious - for those who want to know....and even for those who were indifferent....here is the cast of my original musical

BEACH PARTY NUCLEAR PROTEST...

It ran about 45 minutes and we did it on the set of a production of Tina Howe's COASTAL DISTURBANCES which was not so hot and couldn't draw flies.

The cast of said play was mad at us because we went up at 11 p.m. and they couldn't get out of the theatre for all the people waiting to get in to see us.  They accused us of using all of their paper towels in the dressing room.  I directed/choreographed it, and told the cast of COASTAL DISTURBANCES, we didn't use their G.D. towels....the house staff had taken them because they had run out of towels for our audience in the restrooms.  And then I gave them each a roll of Bounty.   ::)

DR JoseSPiano - I might have missed it, but what pretty trinket did your mother purchase for you?    :)

Well... My mom managed to buy herself a nice shirt at Macy's.  It was originally priced at $24.99, but after all the various discounts and coupons, she ended up getting it for $2.32!  -And there were LOTS of similar sales at all the stores.  I almost bought a couple of things at Williams-Sonoma - some of their Le Creuset Dutch Ovens were marked down to less than half price!  In any case...

I didn't really see anything I liked, wanted or needed, so she bought me a cup of ice cream from Baskin-Robbins: Love Potion #31, which was basically raspberry-swirled vanilla ice cream with raspberry-filled mini-chocolate hearts.  -Yep, Valentine's Day is less than a month away! ;)

OK... Now I really don't get Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus... :-\

*And I wonder what the crowd outside the Verizon Center looks like right now since the audience for tonight's "Kid's Inaugural Concert" ended up being "by invitation only".  There were lots of disappointed tweens when the previously announced "ticket giveaway" was un-announced.

Thank you.  I suspected as much, especially since the audience seemed to approve of her reaction.  I don't blame here.  It was extremely rude.
