BK, MattH, or any other classic film buff, here's your assignment:

I emailed JR about this earlier--this is an eBay auction featuring a scene with Akim Tamiroff and Frances.  Unfortunately, it is not from the only film FF and AT made together.   ;D  So I am trying to identify the woman on the right to see what film FF may have started but not finished.  JR thought it might Anna May Wong before the seller upped the size, but now it looks to me like Gale Sondergaard, except the only film she made with AT was "Anthony Adverse," which this scene is obviously not from.  Any guesses on the actress or, even better, the film?

It's definitely not Sondergaard. Looks too tall to be Wong. Really didn't recognize her.

You don't think so?  Did you scroll to the BIG picture?  It's definitely not Wong--the woman isn't Oriental.  But I sure think it looks like Sondergaard (of course, I also thought Follies had been filmed, LOL).

Not familiar with Bi-Lo, but their name suggests the goal.

Food Lion is notorious when it comes to their quality.

For the stores in my locale, we've got:

Super G - where I work, well regarded.

SuperFresh - tries to place itself as high quality, but even after their recent remodel comes across as claustrophobic and uncaring about the customers.

Food Lion - absolutely tiny store.

Safeway - the newcomer in our area, seen as overpriced and not very welcoming.

After nine years, Super G is still regarded as clean and friendly - many people just "visiting" the area are surprised to learn the store is that old.  A lot of customers are worried about the remodel we're going through.

DR SWW - Is "Super G" a member of the Giant Food family of stores that are part of the DC-area grocery scene?  *They're in-store bakeries make some pretty good hamantaschen - which get re-labeled as "bishop's hats" during certain times of the year.  ;)

Harris Teeter started setting up shop in the DC-area a couple of years ago.  Big, clean, well-lit, open 24-hours stores.  I like them.

Safeway still has a pretty decent share of the market there, and they've aggressively remodeled and/or rebuilt a lot of their older stores over the past couple of years.

However, the latest grocery craze to hit the Nation's Capital is Wegmans.  WOW!

Well, I bought tickets for Laurie Mitchell and I to see LIL ABNER on stage at UCLA's Freud Playhouse on Tuesday nite. They were spendy, but I think it will be fun and Laurie has never seen LIL ABNER before (although she did work with Leslie Parrish once)...I hope we can see from the nosebleed seats, but that was all that was left  :-\


Any recommendations for a nice (inexpensive) place to eat in nearby?
