Well, you've read the notes, the notes had too much mayo, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're celebrating Cinco de Mooyo.
-
And the word of the day is: FUSTIAN!
-
And I'll start with a few:
Doris Dowling
-
Dennis Day
-
Dennis Dugan. I haven't done any of the really obvious ones as I don't want to spoil all the fun, just because I'm the only one smart enough to be up at his unseemly hour.
-
David Duchovny.
-
I leave the rest to you.
-
Speaking of rest, perhaps I'll get some.
-
And a happy haineshisway.com birthday to HollyLynn, whoever she may be.
-
Welcome seven GUESTS.
-
And remember, no cheating - you have to know the DDs without looking them up and you have to know what they do - for example, Don Drysdale - baseball player.
-
Nobody here but us chickens. And us chickens are going to bed.
-
But first...
-
Daryl Duke - director of the film Payday, with Rip Torn.
-
Oh, why stop - Daryl Dragon - The Captain.
-
Okay, let's get an obvious one out of the way: Doris Day.

Happy Birthday to my techno-buddy George!!!
-
I'm seeing Glory Days tonight. A friend of one of the producers got me a ticket. It opens tomorrow.
-
One of Anthony's audition friends just turned 50. His partner threw him a wonderful not-surprise party. We ate and talked and laughed. We were so full there was no need for dinner. His partner is well off. Before he met Michael he had bought the apartment they live in now and then he bought the studio next door and broke through so now he (they) have a large one bedroon with two bathrooms! It's nice to see how the other half lives.
-
Good morning Jack, David, Larry and Amy
-
And bye for now.
-
Good morning, Ben - before you leave!
-
Happy Birthday to DR GEORGE!!!
Congratulations to DR SINGDAW on 14,000 posts!
Vibes for a busy DR JOSE on this Monday of Monday.
-
And the word of the day is: FUSTIAN!
And The Song Of The Day Is: GRAND KNOWING YOU
-
Good morning, Ben.
It is so great of you and your friend to support your partners in the style to which they've become accustomed while they follow their art! ;)
-
And thanks, DR JRand57! That's a lot of hot air!!
-
HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY DR GEORGE
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU AND TO YOU
-
I didn't see the initials in the notes, but since MR BK started off with Doris Dowling - I am assuming they are: DD.
Dick Daring - cartoon character who was a basketball player who took over his father's detective agency, when his father died.
-
I will be interested to hear DR BEN's take on GLORY DAYS.
-
DAN DAILEY
-
David Daniels, countertenor.
-
Good morning, all! This morning is a struggle with the laundry, and then I am off to NYPL.
Danny Daniels, choreographer.
-
Daniel Davis - butler on THE NANNY...
-
Dudley Dursley, of Potterdom.
-
Oooops....I removed a mistaken credit from the post above......Edward Hibbert is not a DD....well he may be a DD - but his initials are NOT DD.
-
Off for the Monday chores....even on Cinco de Mayo.....Ole!

It seems that no one is to help us...

Gotta Scram -- finishing the set today (got the lights set yesterday so it's beginning to look like a theatre in there, which is always exciting -- it's in a multi-purpose room, so we're having to cart everything in, which has been a real pain in the patootie)...

I was completely mesmerized by part 1. I liked part 2. But i was not crazy about the ending at all. I know dexter is a serial killer and all. But i would have liked it a lot better if the ice truck killer had just been killed by the police when they found dex and his sis. But i guess since the whole purpose of the show is that dexter is a serial killer, it made more sense the way it ended. Oh and i did not have any idea who the ice truck killer would be related to until the very end. Good one! jdafj fdlj afu o8u faoud

And as for Glory Days... Well...
QUASI-SPOILER/REVIEW/OPINION AHEAD
I would say that I didn't "get" it. Alas, I didn't think there was anything there to get. I was sitting there wondering if I had become too cynical, too jaded, too something... I kept trying to pull back, relax and just let the show happen "to" me. Nothing ever happened.
The strongest element of the show is the music - which is played with gusto by a fine band. However, there are way too many obvious - at least to me - moments where musical material was added to help stretch out a dramatic moment that probably would have been more effectively handled with two lines of dialogue rather than two (more) minutes of faux-recitative. I kept thinking that they were laying the groundwork for some sort of MTV-style almost-reality-show long-form music video. -Shot on Super 8, of course.
Bookwise, it's a bit of a mess. Yes, the ages of the characters are established - somewhat unsuccessfully, imho - but the time period is never really specified. Is it the '80s? '90s? '00s? Judging from some of the pop culture references throughout the show, it could have taken place when I was in high school. -Unless teenagers who went to school from 2000-2004 happened to watch all of those 1980's specials on VH-1. I'm guessing the vagueness of the time period - the year in which this one single night is set in - was purposely left vague in order to make it universal. Unfortunately, all it did for me was to lessen any sort of impact of the not-so-dramatic plot points.
As much as I joke with friends about not liking a show - any show - and wondering when it's going to close - I never really do wish that on anyone. -Heck, I was with Lestat - need I saw more? But unless their PR company does some great spin, and keeps on bringing in the student audiences, this show will be a very hard sell even if it does manage to get some favorable reviews. It also turns out that I have some friends who are with the production, and I've always admired the composer as an actor/singer whenever he's come into auditions. Alas, there's only so much benefit of the doubt I can give to the production. :-\

Well, once when 3 generations of my family were traveling in 3 separate cars, that's the handle my father and brother-in-law gave me (the 3rd driver) when they were conversing over their CB radios. As in, "Dewey Decimal's lagging behind, good buddy."

Well, we had a whopping 62(!?!?!?!?) people show up for today's Disney Cruise Line/Hong Kong Disney OPEN call, so I was done around 2:20 (after starting the session at 1:00).

When I got in I watched Frank Sinatra: A MAN AND HIS MUSIC which I recorded off TCM last night. I didn't buy the special when it was put out on DVD several years ago (I did buy a used copy of THE MAIN EVENT), so I wanted to see it again.

Yes, Bryant Park is over at 42nd and Sixth Ave. They called me when they pulled into the garage. Thankfully, I made it to the meeting place - a.k.a. Burger King - before they did, so we're eating at the Westway Diner instead. ;)

Then I watched the season 1 finale of the show, a spooky episode directed by John Landis about a supposed death an a mental hospital that has haunted Shawn and Gus for twenty years. A tiny bit scary and otherwise very funny stuff. The mystery wasn't so great, but the entertainment value of the show was high.

...And I guess I should get back to "entertaining" my parents and their friends..
Laters...

Isn't the Port Authority at 42nd and 8th Ave? I thought that Bryant Park was a couple blocks from there.
Yes, Port Authority is at 42nd and 8th and Bryant Park is a quick (if you're a New York walker) two blocks away on 42nd and 6th. It goes a good way along 42nd Street (it doesn't quite get to 5th Avenue) in back of the NY Public Library.
-
Since I had a little time left before I wanted to come upstairs and get on-line, I rewatched the last episode and listened to the commentary track. Very entertaining.
-
When I go back down in a bit, I'll watch last night's THE TUDORS.
-
Thanks to JMK and Jeanne for additional birthday wishes. ;D

This morning I went for a walk, and this is what I saw:

I just read that NBC has pulled MONK and PSYCH reruns from the Sunday schedule. For the rest of the season, they'll be using repeats of their comedy series in back-to-back episodes.
-
Now, I'm going to head back down and watch THE TUDORS and something else fun before BONES begins at 8.

Good Evening!
So... After supping at Westway, we walked up to the Ambassador Theatre to see what kind of tickets they had for tonight's performance of Chicago. -And, yes, I printed out the discount vouchers. The first set of seats to come up were in the last row of the orchestra.. No. Then I asked if there was anything in the mezzanine, and there were four seats available in the center mezzanine, fourth row. Not bad at all.
After I made sure that my parents and their friends knew exactly where the theatre was - the corner of 49th & Broadway - I pointed them in the direction of Rockefeller Center/Top of the Rock/St. Patrick's Cathedral (I think they were going to try to make the 5:30 service before the show), and sent them on their merry way. And I headed up to Columbus Circle to grab the train back uptown.
And, again, I think this was their first trip to New York City in the past year where they did NOT eat at Burger King! :)
-
Today is also my "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxay" birthday!!
-
Have a good time with your towel, George!
-
Darkwing Duck! ("Let's get dangerous!")

Sorry if I didn't get the list up promptly, BK. I've been busy at work.
Oh, wait, you attributed the list to der Brucer, not me. Never mind.
Snark snark snark.

Have a good time with your towel, George!
I intend to. Acually, right now I'm leaving work early and a little later, I'll go to my parents' for dinner. When I get home tonight, I'll need to do some laundry and my towel definitely needs to be washed, so thanks for the reminder.
:)
Until later!
-
:) Thanks for the link.
My pleasure.

Thanks, Ginny, the Mexican Army has now retreated; but my back is so bad now that I am trying to decide whether I should go to the doctor or straight to the hospital.
I'm very sorry about your back. Maybe it will feel somewhat better now that the army has retreated.
-
Thank you Jeanne, Jennifer, and Jane for your good wishes.

Well, once when 3 generations of my family were traveling in 3 separate cars, that's the handle my father and brother-in-law gave me (the 3rd driver) when they were conversing over their CB radios. As in, "Dewey Decimal's lagging behind, good buddy."
Cute :)

Thank goodness! I find it nice to read they ate elsewhere. ;D

It's adventure time again. I'm switching jobs.
I'm still at the store, but I'll be working upstairs in the office for three days every week. I'll be handling the store's billing.
What's happened is that Super Giant has opened another store nearby, in Long Neck. Over the last few months, while the Long Neck store was being built and while our store was being remodeled, we've been helping train many of the people who will be working at the new store. A number of our people have also switched to the new store - it's much closer to where they live.
One of the people switching stores is Sandy, a merry and crotchety soul who has been handling our billing for the last couple of years. About a month ago, it was decided that Larry, one of our front-end managers, would take over Sandy's job, and he started training for it at about that time.
It was not to last. Larry's long-time partner, David, died suddenly last fall. His mother has had serious health problems. And in the last month, Larry started to develop back problems. The spasms were so bad that he had to go to the hospital once. And he's been complaining about how unhappy he is with the job assignment, and that he wants nothing more than to retire (something that he'd been talking about before David died).
Well, the Long Neck store opened last Friday. We've new hires taking the place of the checkers and front-end people who made the move, while those of us who have stayed with the Rehoboth Beach store have moved up. I was a little puzzled by some of the upwards movement - a couple of people who have been with the store for a while, but were still junior to me, were booted up into front-end supervisory jobs. I actually mentioned this to our new front end boss, Stacey, who reminded me of the wierd and long hours those people have. No, I probably wouldn't be too happy with a position like that.
I then mentioned that I would like to be trained for the billing desk, thinking that I could be Larry's back-up, that I might get the training sometime later during the summer. Stacey said she'd take it up with the store manager.
That was Saturday.
Yesterday, Larry was back in the hospital, stressed out and in agony. I got in to the store and Stacey was waiting to see me - could I start training to take over the billing desk on Monday?
So, today I started training.
It's more than a little daunting. I haven't shuffled paper like this for years. There's a lot of it, with lots of numbers on invoices and dollar signs in the appropriate boxes. Just making sure the appropriate bills get paid on time would seem to be a full-time job. I'll also be dealing with errors in billing that the vendors sometimes make, and double-checking the orders that the various department heads receive. And it's not full-time - instead it's three eight-hour days a week. I'll still be working as a checker on the other days.
The training Sandy is giving me started today, and will be continuing through the week. She's happy that I'm already computer literate (Larry was not), and have some experience with filing and organization. Still, the best word I can think of to describe what I'm feeling is daunted. I know I can do the job, I just don't know how fast my learning curve is going to be.
I've already had to make one change. I haven't worn a watch for years, but the room I'll be working in doesn't sport a clock on the wall. Tonight, after work, der B and I went to WalMart where I found something cheap to put on my arm. Unfortunately, not a euphamism.
-
Oh, our grand re-opening is Friday. Just in time for Mother's Day.
Be nice to your Mom. Buy her a steak.
-
Hmm... For just $2.65, I can get from the Long Beach Airport to Los Feliz on the Metro Rail Blue and Red Lines. The trip is only supposed to take an hour and a half. If I take the Super Shuttle Shared Ride service, it would be $46.00 each way, and could take up to two and a half hours to get from the airport to Los Feliz depending how many other passenger drop-offs there are. Hmm...
-
Hmm... For just $2.65, I can get from the Long Beach Airport to Los Feliz on the Metro Rail Blue and Red Lines. The trip is only supposed to take an hour and a half....
But the Long Beach Airport is nowhere near the Metro Rail Blue Line. And I don't remember any busses stopping right next to the airport terminal, either. Still, a taxi from the terminal to where you can catch the Blue Line shouldn't be that destructive to your budget.
(Neat, knowing someone who knows what public transportation is like in Long Beach, isn't it! :D)

There are two busses that run from LGB - well, at least a nearby corner (Lakewood & Spring) - to Willow Station on the Blue Line. And according to LGB's website, the average cab fare from the airport to the metro station would run around $12.00. Not bad.
-
I know you don't have any problems with walking, Jose, but getting from the airport terminal to the corner of Lakewood and Spring is more than a little hike. Take the taxi.

DR SWW - What an exciting development! CONGRATULATIONS. Yes, change is a bit scary. But good for you! :)

They showed that one on NBC a couple of weeks ago.
I'm disapointed NBC is pulling it. But also disappointed in the way they showed the episodes.
Even though there is not a huge plotline that follows from episode to episode. I think that they should have shown the shows in order.
-
Dippity Doo.
Scooby's sister, right?
-
I think i will go watch DANCING WITH THE STARS now.
I actually already voted (for marissa). Her and Kristi are my favorites (but i feel like marissa needs my votes a lot more). I prefer to vote before the show stars so then i don't get any busy signals.
Unlike IDOL they let you start voting at 8pm. And they let Canadians vote too!
-
DR SWW - Thanks - I just pulled up a more detailed map than the one that's on SoCalTransport site... Yep, that's a bit a of a walk. And with luggage in tow, well...
My friend, Ken, was going to pick me up and drive me into Loz Feliz, but he called me this afternoon with some "bad" news - his car just went in the shop today for a broken brake drum. So... It might be fixed by Wednesday morning, but, just in case, I'm checking out my other options.

Hmm... My brother, Jay, just called me. Apparently, one of our "cousins" - I'm not sure if this is a real cousin or just a family-friend - is having a baptism this Saturday for their baby boy. And it will be in Pasadena. Hmm...
-I really wasn't planning on doing an "family things" while I was out there. -Is that so wrong?
-
Before i go, something painful happened yesterday.
My sister, my niece and i were playing that game where you each put your hands on top of the other person's hands, and you continue. Well my sister's finger nails scratched the inside of my hand.
Only thing is her finger nails (which are usually short) felt like claws. and it dug into my palm and took out a chunk.
Boy did that hurt! I didn't want to say how much to make her feel worse. But i did have an ice pack and some cream to disinfect it.
It was still really hurting last night.
Luckily it doesn't really hurt anymore. But it's still all red with a piece missing from my hand! :(
My hands are unlucky. That other mystery scar i got on my wrist from 1-2 months ago still did not go away!. The bottom half is like 60% healed. But the top half still looks like crap.I had no idea it would take this long to disappear. I'm wondering if it actually will. And the worst part is that i don't even remember getting hurt.
-
Ouch, Jennifer.

I've finished entering most of the fixes - I have about twenty little things to run by muse Margaret, then I'll either do or not do those, then print it out tomorrow and get it to proofer number two.

I did indeed eat tacos for lunch.

I watched last Sunday's episode on Showtime On Demand and enjoyed it so much that I watched next Suday's as well! It's going to be a painfully moving one. All hell is breaking loose.
-
Grrrr. They planned another meeting in Fresno. Only this time, the flights that I booked for the first meeting will no longer be offered for the second meeting. There is no way I can get to Fresno and back in one day. None of the flights in can get me there before noon, and almost every outbound flight will have me sleeping in an airport overnight.
-
Sleepless in Fresno.
Doesn't have quite the same ring.

DR Jennifer, do you still have any antibiotic ointment left? I highly suggest you use it for your nail "scratch". Hands can easily (have no idea why) get infected, and who knows what is harbored under nails, even recently scrubbed ones.

This day began so nicely and progressed that way, until a few hours ago.
To begin with, Sherlock’s paw began to bleed. At first we thought he had torn a pad, now it looks like a growth. I told Keith maybe it is “only” an infection like DR George’s cat had.
Then we found out there might be a problem with the buyers of Bryan’s loft getting approved for the loan. The appraiser made an obvious statement regarding the area & the little comment has sent the loan for review. ::)
-
Mega vibes for DD Sherlock!!!! And for the loft situation!

Thank you DRs MBarnum Jose & TCB. I keep telling myself –PATIENCE. Having a place, like here, to vents helps big time.
The vet opens at 8:00 AM. Just in case we can get an early appointment, & she decides it needs removing, we won’t feed Sherlock. It is a shame we didn’t notice this before he had his minor surgery last week. It really is small & we couldn’t see it until it began to bleed. Because Sherlock has been licking the area Keith looked several times & could only see that the area was getting raw looking. Whatever this is, it grew very fast in the last two days.
-
~~~~~PEACEFUL SLEEP AND PAINFREE MORNING VIBES TO DR TCB~~~~~
DR Jane - vibes that both situations that developed today turn out for the best!
Well, it looks like Richard and I have found a place to stay in NYC, August 27-September 1.
Film at 11.
-
Good news DR Ginny, and thank you for the vibes.
-
DR Jennifer - About your hands... I had a friend who was "addicted" to hand lotions and creams, and, consequently, ended up over-moisturizing, and over-softening her hands - which made them very prone to scrapes and scratches. Are you a hand-cream-a-holic? ;)
Seriously...
Just how did you sister's nail take a chunk of skin out of your hand? Did the nail end up going "straight" into you palm?
In any case... Anti-bacterial ointment, and maybe even a band-aid and/or gauze will help.
-
My day starts half an hour earlier than usual tomorrow, so...
Goodnight!
-
LOL-I'm constantly putting cream on my hands, which it did make them that soft.
Definitely keep it clean & covered over the ointment.
I did get a chance to see THE TUDORS this evening before prime time started. All of these episodes are so heartrending now. Though at her height, Anne seems to have been very haughty (in the series), now that she's on shaky ground, I do feel sorry for her. (For her father, not so much.)
-
Page Twelve Dorothy and the Munchkins Dance!!!
-
I got about four phone calls in the time I had left before prime time, so I didn't really have a chance to see anything from beginning to end. I ended up scanning channels until 8 p.m. finally arrived.
-
BONES had a superb episode tonight. Loved every minute of it. Funny and in the end very heartwarming.
-
HOUSE had the always lovely Jason Lewis on tonight playing a soap star (like he did last season on BROTHERS & SISTERS).
The HOUSE formula might need some tweaking now. The patient ever-worsening until a near death revelation saves him is starting to get a bit tiresome. Yes, they did let a patient or two die over the years, but that hardly changes the formula for the show. Don't know exactly how they could mix things up, but something needs to happen for me to continue with the show next season. And there are just TOO many doctors on the team. Bring back Chase and Cameron and get rid of the new ones hired this season.
-
MEDIUM. Good episode. I thought I had it figured out, but I was wrong.
-
Tomorrow I'll be watching STRANGE WILDERNESS (that Steve Zahn flop that debuted Super Bowl weekend).
By Wednesday, I've been promised three Blu-rays, and later in the week I'll be getting the review copies of the new Criterion THIEF OF BAGDAD along with the HD-DVD of AUGUST RUSH (been out awhile), and an Indian film (are you reading this, DR MBarnum?) called VANAJA.
-
Heading down now to get some sleep. Big day of voting tomorrow!
This day began so nicely and progressed that way, until a few hours ago.
To begin with, Sherlock’s paw began to bleed. At first we thought he had torn a pad, now it looks like a growth. I told Keith maybe it is “only” an infection like DR George’s cat had.
Then we found out there might be a problem with the buyers of Bryan’s loft getting approved for the loan. The appraiser made an obvious statement regarding the area & the little comment has sent the loan for review. ::)
It's only playing on on of the HD PBS stations...not the regular PBS. I don't have my TV set up yet!! :P This is an incentive to get it set up NOW!
Our COMCAST is showing it on both the regular and HD PBS Station
And it will be followed by "Broadway's Lost Treasures III - Best of the Tony Awards"
DR George-The birthday photo is great! :D
I'm not sure how much you were enjoying having your nose frosted ;D
I didn't mind them putting whipped cream on my nose as a joke, but it invariably gets in my nose...and that's just wrong. :P
Plus, it's a waste of perfectly good whipped cream. ;)
Well, I need to go to sleep. I am getting my car worked on tomorrow. The "oil sending unit" (whatever that is) leaks and they need to look at my breaks. I don't want to have any problems when I drive TCB to meet FJL in Issaquah in a couple of weeks!
And in the "What was I thinking??" department...I made the appointment for 8:00 am. What was I thinking?? That's too darned early. :P So, I need to go to bed now.
After work, I went to my parents' house for dinner. We had tacos...after I had enchilladas for lunch. :D
Good night, everyone. And thanks again for all the Birthday Wishes!!
