Haines His Way

Well, you've read the notes, the notes waned, and now it is time for you to post until the waning cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: AFFLATUS!
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
Tuesday morning greetings! Richard left early this morning for a day in Lima - the diocesan steering committee is meeting at his church. They don't need me and I certainly didn't want to hang around there all day. Besides, I have my strength/flexibility class this morning and an appointment to deliver lots of baggy (on me) clothes to the consignment shop this afternoon. Then I'm meeting my mother and cousin for dinner at the Olive Garden.
-
Good morning, all! I slept late. The alarm went off at 6:30, I got up at 7, thought about it and went back to bed till 8, during which I had a truly weird dream about working production on Into The Woods, a Sondheim show of which I am not particularly fond. I have a memory of an earlier dream involving buses and navigating Manhattan, but it's too vague.
I have errands to run today and maybe a trip to the NYPL, depending on how everything else goes. My priority is getting the EILEEN materials bound and a vocal score copied for the conductor.
TOD: Harp, because I'm so angelic.
-
TOD:
A tenor sax.
-
I can play a mean wax paper and comb.
-
TOD: bagpipes
-
I've always wanted to play the piano. I just love the sound they make. Horns are probably my least favorite, but they have their place and I enjoy them in that place. Anyway, pianos are very big and expensive. And more importantly, I have absolutely no talent. My sense of rhythm is particularly bad, even for a white girl. Mark and I are the modern day Antonio Salieri - we have this intense love of music, but no talent for anything musical. We don't even sing well in the shower. It would be really tragic if it wasn't so comical. Fortunately, we have talents in other areas that allow us to hold down jobs, so we can make money to spend on music. :)
-
My name was called in jury duty at 3:30 pm. It was so late that they decided to delay the jury selection process until this morning. So, I've had all night to think of really terrible and politically incorrect things to say to get me rejected. But after seeing today's TOD, I think I'll just stand up in the court room, and sing "My Country Tis of Thee" really really loud. That's bound to get me thrown out.
-
Off for a routine blood test, my exercise class, and to drop off our tax paperwork at the accountant's office - bye for now!
-
I just read about an exhibit of photographs celebrating women christening ships.
The title of the exhibit: Ladies Who Launch.
The exhibit sounds interesting, but I'd go see it just for the great name!
-
Darn. Amy logged off. I was going to suggest that she cough. A lot.
-
TOD:
I always wanted to learn to play the piano. Why haven't I? I don't know. Lazy?
-
I would like to play the guitar.
-
TOD:
Piano
I've tried, a few times, to learn, but I just don't have the finger coordination or a musical ear.
-
The Kelly Family
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3neE9Z5Y05I
And the family story:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Kelly_Family
There are several more recent videos of them that are interesting to see....Paddy, the lead singer in the video joined a monastery and just recently left.
-
Good morning, all.
-
TOD: Violin. So many beautiful pieces have been written for violin, but I don't have the discipline to learn an instrument like that any more.
I took piano when I was a kid, but I never practiced enough. I don't have a piano now, so maybe that's a good thing.
-
The Menken show sounds great. Wonderful group of songs. Wish I could be there for this one, too.
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And 12 hours from now, I will be boarding the Lakeshore Limited for my trip back to NYC's Penn Station. Until then...
-
Well... Until then, I think I'm just going to take it easy for the next couple of hours. Maybe even do a load of laundry - at least the bed linens (I'm a good house guest). Oh, and my socks. I did some more "touristy" things yesterday, and walked a lot. A lot. By the time I got back here last night, I ended up falling asleep on the couch around 10:30. There's nothing really left on my "Must Do" list, so... yadda, yadda, yadda...
-
As for the Topic of the Day...
Count me in as another want-to-be Violinist. And/or a want-to-be Cellist.
Each time I try out a friend's violin or cello, it still amazes at just how much physical effort it does not take to get a sound out of the instrument. It's most definitely a skill, talent.
-
And time to catch up on yesterday's posts...
-
JRand, I am surprised that I never heard of the Kelly family. Certainly an interesting history.
-
TOD:
I used to want to play the saxophone. But not enough to ever bother to try to learn it.
-
When I went swimming yesterday they had taken all the doors off of the showers. I was not impressed.
The girl at the front desk said it was because some of the women had been locking themselves in the rooms when there were huge lines. I complained and she said she would talk to the director.
At least they are opening the women's lockerroom in a couple of weeks.
-
JRand, I am surprised that I never heard of the Kelly family. Certainly an interesting history.
That's the way I felt when a friend posted the viddy on FaceBook on Sunday.
-
And now that I'm all ketched up...
-
DR MBarnum - Maybe you should bring one of your Bollywood magazines into the hot tub with you. That could prompt some conversation. Or cease it. ;)
Otherwise, I know a lot of places that do not allow any sort of reading material in a hot tub. The potential for paper clogs is too easy. You may want to report the mean guy to the front desk.
-
I don't know of many more interesting things in Chicago than what you have already done DR JOSE. I don't know if the ferris wheel is running right now.
-
As for a Floop Video Redux, well...
Maybe it needs to "re-made" à la MST3K with the silhouettes of DR MBarnum and JRand. ;)
-
I don't know of many more interesting things in Chicago than what you have already done DR JOSE. I don't know if the ferris wheel is running right now.
DR JRand - I actually went down to Navy Pier yesterday. It was sunny, but cold. And it got colder and windier the further I went out on the pier. The Ferris Wheel was running, but I just wasn't in the mood for a "loop". I was also sort of turned off by the fact that most of Navy Pier is basically one big Food Court and a lot of souvenir shops. -And since it was Monday, there was nothing going on at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater.
-
Welcome Home to DR Jane's DS Craig!
-
For all you film noir fans, Warner Archive is now offering Fritz Lang's WHILE THE CITY SLEEPS and BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT.
-
DR JohnG - RE: That article on Balinese cockfighting - Maybe the author was in a Mickey Spillane mode? ::)
-
DR Ginny - Congrats on your Great Test Results!
-
I'm up, I'm up. Pirates is sold out.
-
Mr. Farley Granger, the man who was Guy Haines before Guy Haines was Guy Haines, has passed away at eighty-five. What a long and great life.
-
I'm up, I'm up. Pirates is sold out.
Aye, Aye! Grrreat news indeed. Arrr! Arrr!!!
::)
-

At least they are opening the women's lockerroom in a couple of weeks.
So it is partially your fault-LOL.
Vibes you are happy with the new locker room & showers!
-
You know who the last Pirates order was from? Marshall Brickman. He used Philippe Sarde on his film Lovesick.
-
Welcome Home to DR Jane's DS Craig!
Thanks. He is safely home & I slept in my own bed again last night. I wish my bed were as comfortable as his is.
-
Mr. Farley Granger, the man who was Guy Haines before Guy Haines was Guy Haines, has passed away at eighty-five. What a long and great life.
Aww...
R.I.P. Farley Granger
-
I am shocked to see I made the very last post yesterday.
-
OK. I'm off to do some laundry.
And get try out the taqueria on the corner too. ;)
Laters...
-
Sorry to hear about Mr Granger.
-
I'm so observant I just now noticed the ground is wet. Keith said it rained this morning.
-

Paper clogs--that will be my next fashion shoe design. It will be this fall's rage.
-
Mr. Farley Granger, the man who was Guy Haines before Guy Haines was Guy Haines, has passed away at eighty-five. What a long and great life.
Aww...
R.I.P. Farley Granger
I would like to get around to reading his book one of these days.
-
DR Jane, that show you were interested with Dana Delaney, BODY OF PROOF starts tonight at 10pm on ABC.
-
Fed Ex package is here, so that's lovelier than lovely, and now the part can be installed this afternoon.
-
Just loaded 7 pairs of capris, 6 pairs of slacks, 2 skirts, and 4 pairs of shoes into the car to take to the consignment shop. Oh, and I've readied the guest room for my cousin.
-
I always enjoyed Granger in "Strangers on a Train." And he wasn't bad on the "First Impressions" recording, though his voice does seem a bit higher than Polly Bergen's. Not how I imagine Darcy and Elizabeth singing.
-
No articles on cockfighting today, though I may have to read one on Enlightenment as Mass Deception. That is, if I get my taxes done. They're not pretty this year.
-
Off to Yesterdays (consignment shop) and then to do some other shopping before I meet my mom and cousin for dinner - bye for now!
-
I now know why our justice system moves so slowly - TWO hour lunch breaks...sheesh. I've made a new wonderful discovery though - chocolate-covered cinnamon gummy bears - yummilicious! Anyway, jury selection is taking forever. If someone admits they might be a less-than-impartial juror, the judge, defending attorney, and prosecuting attorney all ask him to talk about that three different times, phrasing the same question three different ways. I just wanted to yell, "look, you can ask him the same question three times, but he'll still be a bigot no matter how you phrase the question!"
-
Thanks, Laura! I haven't yet been called to the jury box, so I still have time to start coughing a lot.
-
Good Afternoon!
Laundry - Done! -And it was a nice laundromat too.
Lunch - Done! -A torta al pastor from El Pueblita, which is just two blocks away. Quite good and very filling.
Nap - Contemplating...
-

Actually, DR Amy, if you do yell that, I'm sure that would get you out of jury duty. ;)
-
LOL! Poor Amy. I can tell you that they likely have other small status hearings and the like for other cases for an hour before you come back into the court room.
It wouldn't hurt to start coughing now, by the way. So they take notice of you before it is your turn.
-
Jury Duty Avoidance Dance!
-
Errands are accomplished and I am very tired.
-
Back from some bacon and eggs and picking up a couple of packages and the Fed Ex. UPS hadn't arrived yet, and there should be at least one or two more packages coming that way, so I'll probably have to go back there in an hour or two. Then the guy arrives to install the part and do some work. I'm accepting guesses as to what the item is that was delivered on Saturday.
-
I am shocked to see I made the very last post yesterday.
George must have dozed off!
-
Congrats on the "Pirates" sellout.
-
Taxes still aren't getting done by themselves. I wish they'd just learn.
-
Great comment from Patti LuPone on the possibility of Streisand in "Gypsy":

Umm...yesterday was a long day. ::)
:)

Jury Duty Avoidance Dance!
That's JDAD for short.
-
The EILEEN recording copy budget is finished, and I am to! I am realy tired.
Oy! I am aging so disgracefully.
-
DR Jane, that show you were interested with Dana Delaney, BODY OF PROOF starts tonight at 10pm on ABC.
Thank you. Keith remembered to set it for me a few days ago. I've been so busy I forgot it is on tonight.
-
Regarding last night's conversation about Floop Smoothies; I think we should all chip in and buy DR Sandra one of those trucks like the Gay Ice Cream Guy uses. She could park it just outside of Central Park, and she could make Floop Smoothies the newest food craze in NYC.
-
And Monkey could be her official Mascot.
-
I like those ideas, DR TCB!
-
I've decided to burn no bridges with either of my employers, and we'll see how it goes.
KV Pharmaceuticals just raised the price of a drug for premature labor from $20/injection to $1500 for one! What the hell? I hope some group burns their offices down.
-
I like those ideas, DR TCB!
Are you typing under water from your hot tub or do you do other things while you're there?
-
I am betting that BK is having Mr. Peabody's WABAC Machine installed at his house for use the next time the T.O.D. is, If you could go back in time...........................
-
And the word of the day is: AFFLATUS!
I used to have that through work, but they stop carrying it as an option.
-

Thank you. Keith remembered to set it for me a few days ago. I've been so busy I forgot it is on tonight.
I might have watched it. But Tuesday's at 10pm is a conflict. Although they seem to be re-airing tonight's show on Sunday at 10pm.
-
You know who the last Pirates order was from? Marshall Brickman. He used Philippe Sarde on his film Lovesick.
I feel dreadful about it, but I have never heard of Marshall Brickman or the film LOVESICK.
-
I wonder how BK's landlord will feel about a bunch of pansies next to the hot tub.
-
I love these wacky photos.
-
And one for nurse Jane.
-
Interesting!
The 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle will be doing TITANIC - IN CONCERT, next season for two nights only. April 14th and April 15th, 2012
-
Page Four!

KV Pharmaceuticals just raised the price of a drug for premature labor from $20/injection to $1500 for one! What the hell? I hope some group burns their offices down.
Did you hear the one about the pharmaceutical company that mixed up their antidepressants with their prostate cancer pills?
-
No Arnold Brockman today?
-
I like those ideas, DR TCB!
Are you typing under water from your hot tub or do you do other things while you're there?
If I take the computer into the hot tub, I get a mighty shock.
-
No Arnold Brockman today?
No Arnold since March 21? Is he gone on vacation?
-
Interesting!

That sounds like a great evening. I think I might try to see that.

I love the score. We should try to get tickets together, George. Unless you are too busy with your new BFF Christian.
-
And what is the significance of those two dates??
-
That is kind of weird. I got their flyer in the mail yesterday, and it announced the two nights of TITANIC, but I just went to 5th Avenue's web site and it doesn't mention the concert.
-
And what is the significance of those two dates??
The dates of the original Titanic sailing. Having sunk on April 15 - tax day.
-

Um. To whom was it addressed, then?
-
Good times and bum times, I got em all and my dear, I'm still here.
Catching up... saying hi.
-
And one for nurse Jane.
;D
-
No Arnold Brockman today?
And where is td?
-
Good times and bum times, I got em all and my dear, I'm still here.
Catching up... saying hi.
Good to hear from you. Continued vibes.
-
Didn't "Titanic" open in New York on April 15?
-
And what is the significance of those two dates??
The dates of the original Titanic sailing. Having sunk on April 15 - tax day.
Matthew! How are you doing? [[[HUGS]]]
And the Titanic struck the iceberg on Sunday night, April 14th and sank a little over two hours later on April 15. And 2012 is the 100th anniversary.
-
And April 15 is indeed tax day; and like the Titanic, most of us are sunk on that day.
-
Hmm, the 5th Avenue is opening GUY AND DOLLS in May, and they still haven't asked me to play Brother Arvide. They are pressing their luck that I will still be available.
-
As usual, I have driven everyone away, except John G. Once he realizes he is left alone with me, I am sure he will also depart!
-
Today I boiled water. It's the first time I've been able to do that since my kitchen tear-apart earlier this month.
-
So, who was the jury summons for, TCB?
-
So, who was the jury summons for, TCB?
My former next door neighbor.
-
Today I boiled water. It's the first time I've been able to do that since my kitchen tear-apart earlier this month.
Why haven't you been able to use it until now, Laura?
-
Were you disappointed?
-
Because the electrician I called never returned any of my calls. So I finally called someone else.
-
I love jury duty. I wish I could do it again.
-
Were you disappointed?
Very!
-
Were you disappointed?
Very!
What can I say, Laura? There is a weirdo in every crowd.
-
You want mine? I go next week.
-
Page Five!
I am glad that someone mentioned the green light above our avatars. Now I know that Laura is still around, even though she doesn't show up at the top of the page.
-
I wonder if I can take a laptop.
-
And John G. is still with us, even if he is napping or studying.
-
I wonder if I can take a laptop.
Where?
-
To jury duty. Next week.
-
I've decided to burn no bridges with either of my employers, and we'll see how it goes.
I think that is the wise thing to do. Best of luck with them both!
KV Pharmaceuticals just raised the price of a drug for premature labor from $20/injection to $1500 for one! What the hell? I hope some group burns their offices down.
That is a shocking difference. I hope only one shot is needed for treatment. If the offices burn there might not be a drug at all so be careful what you wish for ;)
Today I picked up my 28 day inject pen. Without insurance it is Twelve hundred something. With insurance, until my deductible kicks in, a mere $848.72. Ouch!
-

Unfortunately? ;D

Funny. Is this for real?
-
To jury duty. Next week.
I thought you were already done with that, Laura.
-
So, who was the jury summons for, TCB?
My former next door neighbor.
Not the one we know ;)
-
DR Laura congratulations on boiling water! :)
-
So, who was the jury summons for, TCB?
My former next door neighbor.
Not the one we know ;)
No, the woman who lived below me when I was in the other upstairs apartment.
-
I haven't been sleeping very well lately. I think I will turn in now, so that I can get in a couple of extra hours of tossing and turning.
-
G'night!
-
I like those ideas, DR TCB!
Are you typing under water from your hot tub or do you do other things while you're there?

Can't be any worse than the shock you give the guys in the hot tub when you show up!

Well...since Christian and I don't really interact when we're on stage together, we haven't bonded off stage, either. Oh, well.
I do get to punch him in the stomach during the big fight scene at the end of the show! :D
-
And now, I must leave and run a couple of errands before rehearsal.
Be back later!
-
They give you about six weeks to look forward to jury duty out here.
-
I need to dry my hair now that I have transferred a load of clothes into the dryer. I wish the weather were nicer today as Sherlock is still very damp from his shower.
-
As usual, I have driven everyone away, except John G. Once he realizes he is left alone with me, I am sure he will also depart!
Thanks. I didn't leave because of you. Just went and heated some leftovers for dinner.
-
DR Laura congratulations on boiling water! :)
Ramen is next! :D
-
We had spaghetti.
-
You have to boil water for spaghetti, too. Unless you are eating it out of a can.
-
Tonight's movie: "Pin Up Girl" with Betty Grable. It will go great with "Cultural Theory: An Introduction."

Actually, during the jury's 2 hour lunch break the attorneys are researching, arguing issues with the judge, preparing, dealing with witness issues etc. As a trial attorney, I rarely have time to eat lunch during trial

Nope, wouldn't get her out of jury duty in the courts I practice in. She would just get asked a lot of questions

I would love to play the fiddle - well yes I know it's a violin but it is fiddle music that really makes my soul soar ....
I tired for three years to play the violin --- I was begged not to come back to lessons - I have so little talent I am surprised I am even allowed to listen to music
-
I would also like to play the piano and guitar --- which I also attempted several times over the years
no matter what the instrument my extraordinary lack of talent shines through
-
I would love to play the cello
-
i just woke up to dscover I had nodded oof bette rh\get to bed goodnight

Me, too. ;)

Elmore I am so glad to hear of your decision -
By the way, so am I. They'll get theirs eventually.
-
TOD:
Piano
I've tried, a few times, to learn, but I just don't have the finger coordination or a musical ear.
Yeah, that finger thing...I've always thought I had rather stubby fingers, not enough span and reach.
-
Hello, everyone.
I, too, enjoyed the Joan Rivers documentary. She certainly has a lot of drive and endurance. Thanks to HHW for the excellent recommendation.
-
I am mightily impressed with DR Ginny's weight loss. Especially so since she has even lost weight in her feet!
-
Vibes of strength to DR Matthew! I was very sorry to hear your news. May you find much support here at HHW and elsewhere.
-
Good night!
