Well, you've read the notes, the notes were brainy, and now it is time for you to post until the brainy cows come home - they're all coming to see The Brain From Planet X - if you haven't got your tix, what are you waiting for?
-
And the word of the day is: SARDOODLEDOM!
-
And now - Dino at the piano.
-
Well, if Dino ever needs to take a break...
;)
-
Have a little writing to do and then I must head downstairs and go to bed.
Good night!

TOD: Genghis Cohen. Without question.
-
And, again, I did not watch the Emmys...
Instead I went to see The Musical in Mufti presentation of Zorba at The York Theatre. In short, a beautiful presentation of a beautiful show. This was the first of their fall series which happens to be devoted to shows with book by Joseph Stein, and it was a nice way to start the series.
The cast featured some of bk's "regulars" - Crista Moore (The Widow) and Emily Skinner (The Leader) - as well as Jeff McCarthy (Zorba) and Beth Fowler (Hortense).
Until tonight, I was only familiar with some of the music from the show via casual listens to the OCR and the material incorporated into And the World Goes Round. I was actually surprised at how touching some of the songs were - I loved "The Butterfly".
And since it was the closing performance, there were many see-lebrities in attendance: John Kander, Joseph Stein, Patrick Vaccariello, Peter Filichia, etc., etc, etc. It was great seeing Mr. Kander again, and he's back into "work" mode after taking three months off. -He said it was his first real vacation in years.
-
bk - As for Chinese food.... I do like West Side Cottage, but I'll have to take you down to Grand Sichuan in Chelsea sometime. Wonderful food - you can even pick frozen of fresh(!) chicken for your dishes.
I'm also very fond of Dim Sum Go Go in Chinatown - they don't have carts rolling around the dining room. They make each dim sum fresh in the kitchen. Quite good.
And there are a few other places in Chinatown I could take you too if you're feeling adventurous. ;)
-
DR Jane - Good to hear that Iona made it back home - and five minutes early too! :)
-
I often list "The Butterfly" as one of my favourite K & E songs.
"Zorba" is one musical I would like to see as a film. I would even like to see a new film - in colour. The source material is excellent.
-
I read "cats rolling around the dining room". I do not care for chinese food - and especially not in bed. My tastes go west to Thai, Malay, and Indian.
-
DR Cillaliz - Thanks for the Callie updates.
-
In other news...
Today was the first time I left Mary Poppins rehearsal, and did not feel insecure, inadequate or otherwise discouraged. There are still parts of the show where I feel like I'm swimming upstream as it were, but... I actually got teary-eyed during "Feed the Birds". -And the Dance Captain asked me how soon would I be starting in the pit. I guess I really don't suck after all. :)
-
Does Dish of Salt restaurant still exist? That was (or is) great Chinese food.
-

Oh.. Good restaurant, and a good question too.
-
They used to have a website, but now I can't find it. It was a favorite place when I used to work near teh theater district.
-
Well, now that I've caught up on e-mails - almost - after being out all day, I believe it's time for bed. I'm playing auditions tomorrow for Shrek, so it should be a fun day.

-
Ho-Ho's on West 50th between 6th and 7th was also a nice place, though not as upscale as Dish of salt, but I can't find hide nor hair of that place on the internet, either.
-
Or should that be "neither?"
-
Good luck playing for rehearsals Jose....

After dealing with a putzy computer...

We dont have a lot of quality Chinese restaurants in Fargo and I am only lukewarm on the buffets. However we do have a good Korean/Japanese restaurant and a Thai restaurant that is excellent.
The best Chinese food I had was when i visited rellies in Seattle and we went to HoHo in Chinatown. Great food... I had my first experience eating squid. I loved the crackling rice.

Hello Tom! I hope all is well in Oz..

- you can even pick frozen of fresh(!) chicken for your dishes.
I'll believe "fresh" only if it's dispatched table-side.

-
Thanks td, Jane, Dakota, Tomovoz and Singdaw for the audition vibes! Last night was just a repeat of the same as the day before, so I only read two other little scenes. There were a lot more people there, so that was good. I'm pretty sure I'll be in the show...in what part(s)? I have no idea. :)
-
AND...
-
PAGE TWO DANCE!!
-
AND...The Manhattan Transfer are performing in Seattle at the end of this month! They're playing four nights (two shows each night) at Dimitriou's Jazz Alley (http://www.jazzalley.com/artist.asp?artistid=486)! I've never been to Jazz Alley, but my sister has gone several times. I'm going by myself (because I can) but the only night that I really can go is Friday, September 28. And because they're doing two shows in one night and I'll be in Seattle already, I went ahead and bought one ticket for each of the performances that night! I'll actually get to see them twice! :D
-
Now...it's time for bed. Good night, Der Brucer. 8)

DR Vixmom - thanks for the Sarah update. Glad that there seems to be some good news for her.

RE The Emmys:
My comments on BK's comments:
BK "Who was that awful caterwauling woman singing with Tony Bennett."
That was Christina Aguilera, (16 Grammy nominations, 5 Grammy awards, 30 million albums sold) reprising her duet of "Steppin Out" from last years Emmy winning special "Tony Bennett: An American Classic."
Of the two, she was the least embarrassing - regardless of the fond nostalgia, Bennett's performance was sad.
BK "James Gandolfini's Tony Soprano was one of the greatest performances in the history of television - why (not) reward it with an Emmy."
Well, he has been nominated 6 times and won 3 times - hardly overlooked.
BK "I wonder what they censored?"
EMMY NEWS (http://television.aol.com/emmys/news/articles/_a/emmy-censors-get-workout/20070916234609990001)
Ray Romano joked about his former "Everybody Loves Raymond" wife, Patricia Heaton, sleeping with her new "Back to You" co-star Kelsey Grammer. But he used a stronger word than "sleeping," which prompted Fox to cut away for a few seconds.
…
Sally Field praised mothers when she won an Emmy for lead actress in a drama series but also let her anti-war sentiments surface with a God-related swear word.
"And, let's face it, if the mothers ruled the war, there would be no (expletive) wars in the first place," Field said.
The censors also got a workout with Katherine Heigl, who mouthed an expletive after winning for her role on "Grey's Anatomy."
NOTE: Heigl said "Oh, Shit!"
NOTE also: I think they also chopped out some of Stritch.
BK "Now we have an absurd Jersey Boys meets The Sopranos thing."
The Jersey Boys number was an example of Broadway riding to the rescue. The Emmy folks were totally at a loss on how to handle the round stage - the performers were noticeably uncomfortable (and some so remarked). The Jersey Boys used the "round" to fine advantage (even if the director screwed up the Soprano images).
At least they kept the show moving (which is why I was unable to slip and and post comments).
I also think Ryan did a fair job considering that they gave him such miserable material with which to work. This has to have been the worst written award show in history!

Note to SingSilly:
RE ZACH's parentage.
One common "sleeper" in trying to identify breeds is the failure to recognize that when Golden Retrievers are bred with a black anything, the black hair coloring often predominates. Picture Zach with a curly strawberry blond coat. (Think: Dad a Golden and Mom a Lab/Border Collie mix).

Good morning, all! I want to be out of here in the next 30 minutes; I've got some things to accomplish at Toyland, and then I need to get back here to score two last cues: the playoff to "All About Men" has proven too short, so it must be redone, and the MD emailed me last night saying he could find no playoff - also new - for "Good Girl Bad Girl"; I checked my score and realzed that I had overlooked it, so that, too must be written this morning. I am looking forward to tonight's band rehearsal.

I only watched the first half hour of the Emmys. I thought the best thing I saw was the Stewie and Brian (from FAMILY GUY) number that opened the show.
I agree that poor Ryan Seacrest was given terrible material to read. It might have been a heck of a good show if they had gotten Bruce Villanch to write his material.

Not sure what to do about it, other than just do the next scheduled backup.

-
And the word of the day is: SARDOODLEDOM!
And The Song of The Day: THE STORY GOES ON
-
Tonight's the beginning of The New York Musical Theatre Festival, fondly known as NYMF. There will be 34 productions of what are called "new musicals" although we know the composer of one of them died in the 80's. There will be 84 "events" and some of these are readings of new musicals. 1000 artists are involved and it will all be over in three weeks.
Maybe it's a good time to think about life before NYMF existed. You'd write a musical, polish it, make it as good as you could, and then what? Blind letters to 75 theatre companies, very few of which gave the courtesy of a response. Some places just listen to one song on a CD, and, in those days, if you could only submit a cassette, you were screwed. Nobody took the time to read a script cover to cover.
Showcases get produced all the time, and nobody comes to see them. This is partly because there's no quality control. You don't know who's decided to put the thing on a stage. People go to NYMF shows with the assurance that somebody of note read the script all the way through and decided these works are stage-worthy, whether it was that esteemed panel of seven Tony-honorees or the young folks who run NYMF itself.
The Festival revels in its chaos, in the madness of stuffing so many new shows into the same day, and the same six theatres. It knows it's a ridiculous pressure cooker, seems proud of its own insanity.
We can, of course, all wish it ran more smoothly. Some chaos is unavoidable, the nature of the beast; other chaos is due to inexperience and incompetence. I wish it didn't cost so much, and admit to a certain jealousy that a witless new musical about some chain store got a One Million Dollar production while I can't raise 1% of that. Money is a cancerous part of the equation.
See as many of these as you can see, I say. Here's a quote from the [title of show] boys:
We did the math, and if one Phantom ticket costs $111.50 and one NYMF ticket is $20, you can either see Phantom, which is awesome in its own way, or you can see 5.575 different NYMF shows. We're just saying.

TOD: My favorite place in town for Chinese food is called GOURMET WOK, but most of the lights on the sign are burned out, so we call it GO OK.

-
We had a couple minutes of rain last night, so the weather is cool -- only 82F! So I am going for a walk.
-
There's an icon on the desktop?
What is Ryan Seacrest doing on that desktop?
-
While I certainly would agree about NYMF's noble aims, I would also say that it started out as one thing and has morphed into something wholly other. Part of the reason is that it has been abused by some shows who have continually bent the very strict Equity rules (bent being a kind word) so much that it is no longer possible to just get up and do the best you can do with limited finances. The bar keeps being raised and raised. Ironically, though, the shows doing the bending are seldom the audience favorites, which is, at least, gratifying in some way. Yes, chaos, chaos is understandable. But when shows are paying the sort of dough they're paying, then incompetence is not only unacceptable, it's debilitating and indefensible. That said, I shall now be on my way to rehearsal, and I, too, encourage all lurkers and readers to attend as many NYMF shows as possible.
-
Thanks, DR ArnoldMBrockman! :)

-
Noel, you make some interetsing points about NYMF, but I'm sure some of the NYMF folk would take issue with your categorizing the shows' selection process as "whether it was that esteemed panel of seven Tony-honorees or the young folks who run NYMF itself."
The Invited Works are not chosen by so-called "young people." Whatever kvetching there is to be done, what IS done largely by "young people" (the NYMF reader staff) is whittling the "Next Link" submissions downs from hundreds to the 35 or so that the Tony-honored panel reads to choose their 18. The "Invited Works" are chosen as described in the NYMF materials.
"In addition to our 18 Next Link productions, NYMF presents another 10-15 musicals in each year’s festival as part of our Invited Shows Series. Potential Invited Shows are submitted privately to NYMF by an industry advocate -- an agent, producer, director or theatre company -- or have been scouted by our programming staff members, who attend developmental workshops and readings throughout the year. The slate of invited shows is ultimately selected to increase and diversify each festival’s roster of first-rate musical theatre projects."
All the Invited Works that i know of went through this process.
Other than that, you make some good points, though. (But just in case anyone's confused, Walmartopia was a hit at The Fringe, not at NYMF.)

Cool again and completely wonderful night of sleep in the cool with fresh air being pulled in through the windows by the attic fan. My favorite season is just around the corner. . . .
-
Thank you, DR derBrucer, for lending some balance to the Emmy coverage here. I enjoyed the JERSEY BOYS number a lot and thought it was beautifully staged for the round stage, and I agree completely that Tony Bennett was in atrocious voice (well, he IS over 80) last night.
As for Stritch, as usual she seemed befuddled and combative about her confusion (as if it's someone else's fault). Poor Stanley Tucci just got out of her way and let her rant.
Stanley, BTW, was my favorite male presenter/winner of the evening. He looks GREAT in a tux.
-
I've lamented here before about the loss of my beloved nearby Chinese restaurant China House which has been gone about three years now. None of the other Chinese restaurants in town have been able to touch the food there. I must add, however, that there are still some wonderful ones here (Tin-Tin comes immediately to mind.)

Got the rest of the ROBINSON CRUSOE ON MARS binus features watched. The piecemeal audio commentary was very entertaining. Loved star Paul Mantee's comments and enthusiasm about being an actor and his work in the movie.

Today, after lunch out with best friend John and a trip to the post office and drug store, I will start THE INTRUDER, a Roger Corman-produced social picture with William Shatner in the lead role of a bigot. This was when Shatner was a very serious actor, before he achieved icon status as Captain Kirk or kidded his image in other projects.
I still remember seeing him as a psychotic killer on an episode of THE FUGITIVE which I found absolutely riveting.
-
And even greater out of one. 8)
We are thinking along the same lines . . . .

If anyone is still watching, tonight is the season finale of SAVING GRACE. I have stuck with it to the bitter end, and I'll record the show tonight (so I can slip through commercials tomorrow). I doubt, however, that I'll pick back up with the show when it returns next summer.
-
I still have Friday's season finale of MONK to watch which I'll probably get to tonight.
I was relieved Tony Shalhoub didn't win yet another Emmy last night, but have to admit I was surprised the Academy gave the Emmy to Ricky Gervais (for EXTRAS) rather than Alec Baldwin (for 30 ROCK).
Of course, I'm not saying Ricky wasn't deserving. He was absolutely hilarious in the show, especially the second season when his character Andy had achieved a little bit of fame and wanted to travel in circles with bigger stars.
-
RE: the emmys. I also did not like them doing it in the round. It was very distracting seeing the blurry faces in the background.
And why bother having a host if he was barely on. I like to have a host who is on a LOT MORE!
-
I like to have a host who is on a LOT MORE!
On what? ;)
-
Actually, I've noticed in the past few years that hosts on all awards shows (when they have hosts, some don't even use them any more) do much less than in deacdes before. There is an offscreen announcer now to do most of the introductions, and the host only appears occasionally.

Heading down now to clean up a bit before my afternoon outings.

Thanks to both NOEL and FJL for their comments on the NYMF. It's interesting to hear comments from behind the scenes. I, too, applaud their aim and intentions.
My own experience with arts organizations in general is that many of them are poorly run. My local PBS station falls in that category--wonderful programming, but they can't seem to get much right organizationally. A real shame. No one loves public television more than I do, but they continually shoot themselves in the foot.
I don't have an answer, but I personally would love to see more venues for new works of all sorts.

At the Meijer store today, there were FOUR books about Hillary Clinton.
Two of them had lovely airbrushed photos on the cover and had titles that intimated that she was our country's only hope and the savior of the world.

I spent my Emmys evening between "Hollywoodland" in HD (an interesting film I shall never watch again) and the FilmScoreMonthly Message Board thread on the high def format wars. Let's just say I was reacting to an apparently functional moron whose sole argument in favor of his position is to hurl insults at those who question his claims (which are ludicrous and not based in fact/reality/rational thought). The thread was closed down this morning, though, so I won't be able to work off any extra energy there today.

I read with amusement, this morning a thread at fSM Message Board that BK started on the film "Robinson Crusoe on Mars".
I was "amused" because BK pegged one poster exactly correctly and then a few "strange, new posters" chimed in defending said poster as having all sorts of horrible things done to him by BK, which was absurd.
This sort of thing has happened before. I've often thought one guy whose initials are FAT had a couple of extra "log-ons" at various sites...log-ons he would use to come to his own defense when he was (yet again) backed into a corner by his own silly devices.
Those posts by these "strange, new posters" were posted consecutively, saying essentially the same things in praise of "said poster" in the same badly constructed/poorly spelled sentences.
And then "said poster" came on to thank them for being perceptive and appreciating him. I find it very odd that only "said poster" can suddenly amass such loyal defenders.
I really think "said poster" is a major nut job. On the other hand, he produces some gorgeous CDs, along with his wife. So...it just shows to go you.

RE: the Fall tv schedule.
I think I've decided to try 6 new shows.
The one i am looking most forward to is PUSHING DAISIES.
But here are the ones i will try:
1.pushing daisies
2.gossip girl (which premieres tomorrow in canada and wed in US)
3.bionic woman
4.private practice
5.reaper
6.dirty sexy money
-
I think last night was the worst most boring episode of BIG BROTHER I have ever seen.
-
DR Jennifer, if you have Tivo, you can download and watch the pilots for THE BIG BANG THEORY and a couple of NBC shows including THE BIONIC WOMAN. You might be able to do it through your cable system too if you have a DRV with them.

The new shows I'm most looking forward to are "Journeyman", "Life" and "Moonlight". Later this year, I'll be anticipating "Tin Man" on the Sci-Fi channel.
And, of course, the returning shows (at various times during the coming season): "Lost", "Heroes", "Ghost Whisperer", "Jericho", "Medium", "Ugly Betty", "Smallville" and "Supernatural."
Which reminds me....I've gotta clear my cache on my DVR so I can record shows that conflict with other shows I plan to watch.
-
I think last night was the worst most boring episode of BIG BROTHER I have ever seen.
Given the season...and the manipulation by the producers via diary room and editing...I can say it's the most boring version of this show done YET. Not ONE interesting competitor...no one that I cared one thing about...beyond the mid-point of the series.
-
DR Singdaw, I guess I have seen photos of Zach before...it has just been so long that I must've forgot...as they say, out of sight out of my mind...or something like that. ;)
Either way, he is a devilshly good looking pup.

There are quite a few folks out there who would greatly benefit from an extreme makeover.
Nothing wrong with the process at all.

I did watch THE BIG BANG THEORY and didn't think much of it. The two lead nerd characters never grabbed my interestand the writing was so-so. The only reason that I might be tempted to watch regularly would be if the hunky guy who played the female lead's boyfriend sticks around for a few more episodes.

Favorite Chinese restaurant will always be KIM'S in Medford. It opened around 1951 and closed a few years ago. We ate there often when I was a youngster and whenever I would make the trek back down to Medford from Salem I would always haul my family there to eat....and this was a huge restaurant! The only one in Medford for many years, in fact.
Their Pressed Duck, Kim's Foo Yung, and Pea Pod Chow Mein were my favorites.
-
DR MBarnum...you are too kind. In fact, you're...

At the Meijer store today, there were FOUR books about Hillary Clinton.
Two of them had lovely airbrushed photos on the cover and had titles that intimated that she was our country's only hope and the savior of the world.
The other two had really scary pictures on the front and seemed to compare her to Hitler or Saddam Hussein.
And it's only September, 2007.
There are MANY men out there who are totally threatened by women in politics...and the more power the women attain, the more threatened and desperate they get.
Some are deathly afraid that the women in the U.S. "might" actually wake up and shake off the cobwebs of the GOP spinmeisters and start thinking it's way past time for a woman to lead the country out of the unprecedented national despair of the past 8 years.
It's really telling that the preponderance of Bush's presidency has been during "a time of national emergency" (Bush's own words those). It has always caught my attention that any time Bush's ratings dropped, the security threat level was raised.
Whether anyone likes Sally Fields or not, her speech last night was in tune with the character for which she won her Emmy....a mother whose son had served in Afghanistan, returned to the U.S. with a drug problem and was, yet again, called back to active service in the Middle East.
Mr. Bush....LET YOUR PEOPLE GO!

DR Ron Pulliam, does your DVR allow you to record directly to DVD, or does that involve a "workaround"?
-
Not being terribly technically minded, the only way I can accomplish this is to dub from DVR to VHS and then back to DVD. Cumbersome, to say the least!
-
I was at the local video store the other day when another customer, an older man, started a conversation with me about films. He was obviously a film buff--and older films, not contemporary ones. I had the impression that he welcomed a chance to talk to someone who also likes nonmainstream productions. I told him about HHW, but he didn't seem interested, so I let it drop. I do have the impression that many film buffs are eager to talk to others who share their interests and to complain about the shortage of good movies at the local theatres.
-

I stared at the dress for awhile & finally decided it is the way she (who is she anyway?) is standing. One would have to stand perfectly straight in that dress to keep it looking symmetrical. And I'm not sure that would be an improvement.

DR Ron Pulliam, does your DVR allow you to record directly to DVD, or does that involve a "workaround"?
I have a DVD/VHS recorder connected to both my DVR (line out from DVR to line-in on DVD/VHS recorder) and my TV (component video cable out from my DVD/VHS recorder into my TV).
I can record off the DVR or directly from a show currently airing.

I also have my DVD burner attached to my laserdisc player, too, so I can burn DVDs from laserdiscs if I need to as well.

I got home in time to watch the upcoming release of the 1961 Roger Corman film THE INTRUDER. Very politically hot for 1961 (concerning a Southern town's rebellion against integration) and a wonderful performance from William Shatner early in his career.
But Disney has done no digital clean-up on the film at all. It's filed with dirt, specks, black and white scratches (appropriate to the subject matter, I guess), and missing frames. It's in rough shape, but I'd never seen the film before, and it's certainly a coruscating view of racism.
-
The only bonus feature on the disc is a nine minute featurette with Roger Corman and William Shatner looking back on the making of the picture. Corman contended for years that this was the one film of his that lost money though he sheepishly claims that it has moved into the black after forty years due to reissues in Europe and home video releases.

No, the DVR is a temporay storage device (think one big RAM drive), It lets you record a program for later viewing (either because you are away or or watching a different channel) - it has a limited capacity (mine holds about 30 hours) and you must delete shows once the baby fills up. The DVR is on-line whenever you are viewing, so you can rewind a show in progress and re-watch a scene you might havr missed (then fast forward thru commercials to get caught up).

It's an interesting process, but requires you have a "MySpace" log-in/blog in order to save it in any usable fashion. I opted to print screen, then scan and then crop/save as a .jpg. This took its toll on the quality:

It's time to pack up my work kit and head down to the band rehearsal. I hope it goes well.
-
No one wanted to sup, so I came home and had a couple slices of pizza from Fat Sal's. Not quite as good as it's been, but still fine. Band rehearsal will start around seven, as it will take a half-hour to load in the instruments. The rehearsal studio that we've used for most of this has been the most awful in my long experience. Most places go out of their way to make sure their customers are happy. Here, they do the opposite. This morning they were reamed out and had to give us some extra time for free, but they caused me a delay of thirty minutes, which meant I only had my leading lady for thirty minutes.
They make us completely clean the room every day, including pulling up our spike marks. Well, we walked in this morning to a pig sty - apparently those rules only apply to us. My General Manager, who is almost as bad as I, had a strong chat with them. You'd have thought that would have done some good, but then they pulled some other crap just before we left. When this is done, I will make sure that as few people as possible use their space, and I think we all know that we have many readers in the business and I have access to every theater site.

Hello all.
Well the accident is behind me now. I have a new car and I have only incidental aches and pains.
Unfortunately the accident has put a kibosh on my trip to Europe and NYC. The money saved went towards the new car.
Unless something amazing happens like getting a free round trip and a free hotel room I will not be able to come and see everyone's shows. I had even planned my trip to Ireland around see those three musical.
Major disappointment for me. But the good thing is that I am alive after the accident.

One of the best places for Chinese Food was in LA called Genghis Cohen where BK and a group of us went to eat after a performance of The Brain From Planet X.
Another one La Piment Rouge (The Red Pepper) in Montreal.
-
So true. Musicians in their blues band, my dad, my other brother and sister-in-law moi, and I suspect many more . . .
So, all hell will be breaking loose. As executor, I just sent a letter that will put their panties in a bunch. Should be interesting.
Sorry Dear Elmore, I had to laugh when I read that part. We always said put their panties in a wad. :D
-
Jose, did you get my phone message?
-

I'm very sorry about you missing your trips, DR Michael. I'm just thrilled that you are alive and well.
Maybe I'll win the lotto in time for both of us to go see the plays. :)
I watched a TV show this past weekend about the "lotto curse" and all the bad things that happened to some of the people that won them. I'd still like to give it shot.
-
What kind of new car did you get?
-
DR MBarnum, thanks very much for the tip!!! :)
-
DR Danise - what did you doctor say about the Cepap machine and sinus headaches?
-
What kind of new car did you get?
I got another Nissan Altima 2.5S
-
I did the face thing and the only two people that I knew were Christopher Lambert (60%) and Geena Davis (50%).
-
DR Michael S. - very sorry to hear about the cancellation of your trips. But very, very glad that you are back and without serious mishap. Egad!
-
bk, didn't you previously say that the Roy Arias studios were the only ones available at a reasonable price for the budget of the show - that all the other available spaces were much, much more expensive?
-
Mine is interesting....
Giorgio Moroder, Emma Watson, Selma Hayek and Frank Sinatra....
-
DR Danise - what did you doctor say about the Cepap machine and sinus headaches?
I kinda figured it out for myself because I stopped using the water vapor for a couple of nights but he agreed with me that could have been the problem.
It just feels sooo good to feel good! I will shout it from the roof tops that if your always tired to go have a sleep study! It can change your life!
-
The the others were:
Neko Case (64%)
Sarah Silverman (58%)
Izabella Scorupco (50%)
Who ever those people are. ??? ??? ???
-
Well, I have to plan a trip to Ohio. The damned Macbeths are throwing more flies into the ointment. I think I may fly in for two days, not let them know I'm coming, hire a crew to empty my dad's house and get the damned thing accomplished. I clearly can't count on the Macbeths for any help.
Those darn Macbeths!
A double dose of bedbugs upon them! >:(
-
Band rehearsal vibes - it's happening right now!
I wonder if DR JOSE's Whew was personal or professional?
Oh wait...today was his own 300!!! Not Spartans, though, 300 auditioners for SHREK....

I don't even know 300 people who would like to SEE Shrek on Broadway....but then I am from Indiana.
-
Good news from DR MICHAEL S.
DR ELMORE bring a sweater, it's cool at night in these parts.

Glad to hear that you are well Michael and sorry that you have to cancel your trips. I am pleased that you are making an excellent recovery...
-
I may watch the Teddington films, DR RLP.....or some of them....
Nice collection there, DR SINGDAW....
Miss Blue Moon is not a social dog. She demands ALL of the attention ALL of the time....so a play date might be difficult.
-
Singdaw, you have much higher percentages than me....
My highest was Giorgio Moroder and Emma Watson at 62% and 60% respectively
-
WELCOME BACK DR MICHAEL S.
We Missed you
-
I guess they basically figured that once they told me that singdaw IS Larry King, they had to throw me a consolation prize... :)

Thanks to all HHW'ers for their support of Amanda in the Flyer Idol writing contest.
She was eliminated this week.
Ms April McCarty has several churches voting for her - they collect the paper ballots from across the county, count them out and put in just enough for her to win.
She has been chasing Amanda for several weeks.
HOWEVER - the editor told Amanda that the staff has been voting for HER and that she will probably receive some freelance work during the year...they thought her articles were best.
Amanda says "thanks!"
-
My Comcast (made by Motorola, I think) doesn't give me an option to "Save to VHS" or DVD. That's not fair! :P I have my VCR hooked up to it and what I have to do is play the show in its entirety and record it manually.
That is how it works with mine as well, George.
-
That is how it works with mine as well, George.
Ahh. Thanks for the info.

I'm at work ordering juvenile books for the library and I came across this:
"The Faceless Fiend: Being the Tale of a Criminal Mastermind, His Masked Minions and a Princess with a Butter Knife, Involving Explosives and a Certain Amount of Pushing and Shoving: The Mad Misadventures of Emmaline and Rubberbones (http://www.amazon.com/Faceless-Fiend-Mastermind-Misadventures-Rubberbones/dp/1554531802/ref=sr_1_1/102-3712075-1692941?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1190071217&sr=1-1)"
We already have the author's earlier work:
"The Strictest School in the World: Being the Tale of a Clever Girl, a Rubber Boy and a Collection of Flying Machines, Mostly Broken: The Mad Misadventures of Emmaline and Rubberbones (http://www.amazon.com/Strictest-School-World-Misadventures-Rubberbones/dp/1553378830/ref=sr_1_2/102-3712075-1692941?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1190071619&sr=1-2)"

Those are some titles! :D
-
That is too bad about Amanda, Jack...at least as far as the contest..but nice to know her talent is being appreciated!!
-
That is too bad, JRand. I really did enjoy what she wrote. It's great that they told her that they liked it, also.
-
Yes, I'm really disappointed about Amanda. I guess I didn't understand how it worked. I thought they simply eliminated the lowest vote getter each week. I figured Amanda was safe!
At least she knows that she has the talent on merit, if not the popular vote.
-
I'm going to be most errant and truant tomorrow.
I'm leaving my house very early for...Astoria, Queens!
I'm taking a tour of the Steinway piano factory, and it's going to be a great day!
-
Well, back to my piles of dirty laundry, for the time being...
-
Thanks, HHW'ers. Amanda will be pleased to hear your comments.
DR SINGDAW is visiting the House of Keys.
Emmaline and RubberBones - wonder how long it will be before Disney makes a Broadway musical out of it?
-
I wonder if Steinway just paints on the black keys - as on Schroeder's piano.
I think DR Jose is now able to play the black keys. He has practised a lot lately.
-
So, all hell will be breaking loose. As executor, I just sent a letter that will put their panties in a bunch. Should be interesting.
Just be glad Mr MacBeth was not named co-executer.
-
Michael S, Great news to have you back & almost completely mended. I'm very sorry you won't get your trip to Europe, I know how disappointingly that must be.
-
JRand, I too thought Amanda was safe. I wish her loads of work in the future.
-
George, DR Sandra says to order some Philip Ardagh.
-
Today, after lunch out with best friend John and a trip to the post office and drug store, I will start THE INTRUDER, a Roger Corman-produced social picture with William Shatner in the lead role of a bigot. This was when Shatner was a very serious actor, before he achieved icon status as Captain Kirk or kidded his image in other projects.
I still remember seeing him as a psychotic killer on an episode of THE FUGITIVE which I found absolutely riveting.
They had television before STAR TREK? ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
And Sandra knew those book titles you mentioned right off.
-
Satin slips up on you....or maybe that's Satan.
I still remember, when I was about ten, I came home from the Saturday afternoon movies; and I announced that the next week's matinee was going to be Satin Never Sleeps.
-
I have been thinking of Ginny and Richard all day...
if you turn up here tonight Ginny..
((((((Ginny & Richard))))))
-
((((((elmore))))))
May the McBeths armpits be infested by the fleas of a thousand camels
-
Michael Shayne it is so good to see you back here.
I am so very sorry that you will not be able to be here for NYMF but so very glad that you are still here among us!!!
Continued Healing Vibes
-
I still remember, when I was about ten, I came home from the Saturday afternoon movies; and I announced that week's matinee was going to be Satin Never Sleeps.
they had talkies when you were a boy?
-
:-*
-
George, DR Sandra says to order some Philip Ardagh.
Our library already has 15 Philip Ardagh (http://www.philipardagh.com/) titles...actually, they only have 10 different titles. Five of the listings are for the talking book editions. :)
-
Well I must go collect the Vixter from "Contemporary Church Music Group" rehearsal
-
And Sandra knew those book titles you mentioned right off.
To be honest (well...I don't actually have to be, but I will ;)), I'd never heard of these before today.
-
Noel, you make some interesting points about NYMF, but I'm sure some of the NYMF folk would take issue with your categorizing the shows' selection process as "whether it was that esteemed panel of seven Tony-honorees or the young folks who run NYMF itself."
The Invited Works are not chosen by so-called "young people." ...
"Potential Invited Shows are submitted privately to NYMF by an industry advocate -- an agent, producer, director or theatre company -- or have been scouted by our programming staff members"
I think there's some confusion about exactly which "young people" I referred to. I wasn't referring to the readers (seen that list, and a lot don't strike me as spring chickens) but the actual Powers-That-Be at NYMF. I cut young people a break; others find their mistakes inexcusable. To be clear, I was thinking of:
Executive Director Kris Stewart
Executive Producer Isaac Robert Hurwitz
Management Coordinator Demos Tsilikoudis
Operations Manager Sarah Melissa Rotker
Marketing Associate Lynn Spector
Development Manager Lee Ann Gullie
Associate Director of Programming Jess McLeod
Senior Associate Producer David E. Leidholdt
and by "mistakes" I'm not talking about the shows they chose to invite, but all the little things they make it harder for our shows to get on (as referred to, more than once, by our esteemed BK).
-
Good Evening!
WHEW!!!!!!!!
-
No, the DVR is a temporay storage device (think one big RAM drive), It lets you record a program for later viewing (either because you are away or or watching a different channel) - it has a limited capacity (mine holds about 30 hours) and you must delete shows once the baby fills up. The DVR is on-line whenever you are viewing, so you can rewind a show in progress and re-watch a scene you might havr missed (then fast forward thru commercials to get caught up).
der Brucer
Thank you, der Brucer. I didn't realize it worked this way.
-
Noel, would you be so kind as to do me a favor? Next time you have a moment with Brad Oscar, would you tell him that Sharry and Micheal O'Hara send their love and wish they could be there to see FRIENDS. They are both, at the moment, in a production of AUNTIE MAME.
-
One of my matches is Kyra Sedgewick....so I will have to let them know I am available to shoot THE CLOSER if she gets another gig.
;D ;D But what about World of Wisdom? Surely they could not get by without you.

Just had to say that one more time. In any case...
I sort of accidentally exaggerated earlier when I gave the headcount for the number of auditionees today. Instead of 347, I meant to say 247. -I just can't add. In any case, we saw a lot of people today. And even though it was a "Women's Chorus Call" today, we did see some Men who weren't able to make last week's call. However...
After lunch, we had two more groups of Equity women to see, before we started with the non-Equity women. Before lunch, there were about 100 non-Equity women signed up, and at that point and time, the director had stated that he would go ahead and see all of them - even though we were not required to see them. "If they came today, and have been waiting all day, we should see them." Well...
By the time were finished with the Equity women (and a couple of men) - 155 in all - only 42 non-Equity women had stayed/come back for the afternoon session.
So, we saw 197 people in about seven and a half hours - about 25 people per hour. In other words...
WHEW!!!
-
And even though it was quite the audition-packed day, I have to say, it was quite the "happy room". The production staff that were there today were/are a great bunch of people. We kept each other smiling and laughing all day. Even the audition monitor commented that almost every person coming out of the room had a big smile on their face and said it was one of the nicest auditions they've ever attended. :)
-
I got home in time to watch the upcoming release of the 1961 Roger Corman film THE INTRUDER.
For some reason, it sounds strange to hear Roger Corman and Disney in the same post.
-
...And I did read today's posts, but, frankly, I'm a bit braid dead right now to remember everything I should be responding and/or commenting. *I was even going to meet up with some friends at Splash tonight, but I'm even a bit too tired for that.

Jose, what a day, no wonder you are tired. You lead such an interesting life, and most the time you seem to be having fun.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070917/ap_on_re_us/crocs_escalator_dangers
"People, particularly young children, getting their toes caught in escalators. The one common theme seems to be the clunky soft-soled clogs known by the name of the most popular brand, Crocs."
When Bryan was young we had a scary moment when his shoe lace got caught in an escalator. He and I were fairly calm while we untangled him, just in time. The woman next to us wasn't. ::) We didn't even know her & she made the situation more difficult.
-
Hehe....
Levain - and their Cookies(!) - are currently being featured on the Food Network.
:)
-
Jose, what a day, no wonder you are tired. You lead such an interesting life, and most the time you seem to be having fun.
And during the course of today's call, I happened to see at least five of my "favorite people" who I haven't seen in years. I always like when that happens.
-
Jose, what is the show called? Maybe I can catch it later.
-
Jose, what is the show called? Maybe I can catch it later.
Shrek - Yes, based on the movies - well, at least the first one.
This series of auditions is for an upcoming six-week workshop of the show. As for the rest of it's "Broadway timetable", that's still very much TBA.
-
Jose, what is the show called? Maybe I can catch it later.
Oh, that show... Oops...
It was "Unwrapped" - The focus tonight was on "Oversized Foods". They featured the Hamptons location of Levain.

I think I missed it. I'll see if it will be on again.

How is Miss Callie Sue today?

I think last night was the worst most boring episode of BIG BROTHER I have ever seen.
I kinda enjoyed it. I want Dick to win. He will share with Danielle, I don't think the opposite is true

Good luck to every one in the cast and crew! I wish I could be there to see it.
You're most welcome, DR Danise! I wish you were here with us all, too.

DR Laura didn't answer my question before leaving. How about you DR elmore?

I am going birdwatching with a group early in the morning. I don't have anything else planned after that.

Just be glad Mr MacBeth was not named co-executer.
Macbeth is pissed because he isn't the executor, but it's clear my dad was no fool. He knew I'd treat his memory and estate with love and not humiliate him the way the Macbeths constantly did the last year of his life. This elephant never forgets, and the Macbeths will pay.

DR Laura, I think you will have a perfect birthday morning.

With the lovely weather system that moved through town the last couple of days, the day was very very cool! Tomorrow I am taking DR Kerry for a walk, and I think it will be even cooler then.
-
elmore, your lucky your father still had his mental abilities. I'm sorry I didn't get to meet him.
'night for real.
-
I think so too, Jane.
-
Macbeth is pissed because he isn't the executor....
I don't know why anyone would want to be the executor of an estate.
-
For some reason, it sounds strange to hear Roger Corman and Disney in the same post.
They have done an entire series of Roger Corman DVD releases. I have Ron Howard's EAT MY DUST! upcoming.
-
It was a fun band rehearsal; we didn't get through everything, but we got up to the playoff of "All About Men," and I think we'll get through everything tomorrow. The players are wonderful and my ears are still adjusting to new musicians' different approaches to playing the hen scratches I gave them. I think I'm too used to hearing what's on the CD now, but it's fun revisiting and revising in rehearsal. I look forward to the cast and band rumble tomorrow afternoon.
Of course it wouldn't be nearly so much fun if I didn't love the score so much. Also, Juliana showed up tonight and it was fun to meet her after reading her blog here and watching her in the dreadful YOU'RE THE ONRE THAT I WANT tv show.
-
I had a very ecclectic selection of films/TV shows that I watched tonight.
I began with THE LADY IN THE WATER which I recorded off HBO-HD at some point this weekend. Actually, there was some promise in the set-up for the film, and I was looking forward to a lovely fantasy, but somewhere along the way, the plotting got muddled, and I got kind of irritated with the film.
The film did make me jump a couple of times with its frights, but when in-ground lawn sprinklers are used to make one of the "gotcha moments," well, that's not top notch writing.
-
Next, I watched last Friday's MONK episode. It was a pretty clever mystery this week, and I enjoyed that aspect of it. I didn't enjoy AT ALL the grifter being able to lure in Monk so easily. I can't believe people fall for this kind of stuff.
-
I don't know why anyone would want to be the executor of an estate.
I didn't want to be the executor, I told my parents 30 years ago to give the position to Macbeth, Last November after Macbeth and Lady M pulled all of their crap, I learned that my dad had never changed the will. Given that Macbeth told my dad and me last July that I deserved to inherit nothing, I was quite happy about the news. I don't like the job, but I'm happier to be on the end I am rather than at the mercy of a brother who doesn't wish me to have anything.
Today I called my attorney about redoing my will and removing the Macbeths from inheriting anything.
-
Good thinking, Elmore. They say to leave a very minimal amount so that it is obvious that you didn't forget them. That way they will have no luck in contesting the will because you forgot them.
-
To conclude my evening, I watched three episodes in the first set of POWER RANGER DVDs. I'm sure kids 10 and younger love this stuff, kind of an Indiana Jones/Transformers sort of combo action series for them. They're searching for jewels that will make this ancient golden crown regain its power. Naturally, there are two warring giants who also want the crown and its jewels for themselves.
Luckily for me, the first episode introduced the Rangers to me because I knew nothing whatsoever about them.
There are three more 30 minute episodes in this set, and then another set with six or seven more episodes in it.

I had a very long day at work. I had to go to Sioux Falls to visit a guy in jail and then came back to town about 4 1/2 hours later and checked on the cats. Then back to the office for an appointment and an "all hell breaking loose" semi -emergency situation. I got everything done, which is the good news
The bad news is ... I hired and interpreter when I should have hired a secretary and now I have to deal with it.
-
I'm heading downstairs to bed now.
Good night!

Aww, that's too bad, Cilliliz. I'm sorry you had such a bad day. Are you going to look for a secretary?

-
Well, tomorrow is another long day and I'm still coughing and hacking. I better get some sleep.
-
Today I called my attorney about redoing my will and removing the Macbeths from inheriting anything.
If I may, I suggest you look into doing a "trust" for whoever you do want to inherit your estate, rather than a will. Otherwise, as you will find out soon as executor for your dad, lawyers will take A LOT of money out of the estate to do...whatever it is they do... and the gov'mint will also want their pound of flesh... but if you do a trust, the amount they get is substantially lessened. But you will need a good lawyer to do it to start with, so the Macbeths can't contest anything....

Finally back and caught up, and now must hurry and write the notes - trying not to have this turn into a REALLY late night. I'll write about everything in the notes.
To answer the question about Roy Arias, yes, at the time we booked, it was the least expensive. However, when we saw the disgusting room they put us in, we ended up having to go to a bigger room and that cost another twelve bucks, which meant we could have gone anywhere. We know better now - they are ridiculous and they're not getting their final payment until they come into the room and publicly apologize to my company and stage manager.
