Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of tongue, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently thinking they would like no one to ever eat tongue again.

And the word of the day is: MONDEGREEN!

A Very Happy Birthday to DR Ben!! ;D

DR elmore - As for the inspiration for Gershwin's "Cuban Overture", Herbert's "Cuban Serenade" may have planted the seed, but the direct inspiration was a result of a vacation that George Gershwin took in Cuba. The main theme is based on a popular Cuban song of the time.
*Thanks to Wikipedia for re-affirming my memory. ;)

DR Jane - Why was it "odd" that you felt better after your PT? Isn't making you feel better the point of PT?

bk - Is it possible to adjust the color settings on your television to take out some of that yellow?

And... We're back.

Good morning, all! Another morning at the McGlinnventory. I will most likely stop at Toyland on my way back uptown. I am supposed to attend a screening tonight but I believe I shall cancel because this cold is driving me up the damned wall. I wanted to stay in last night, but I was committed to out-of-town friends and several of the performers. I really want to be there, so I guess I will see how I feel later in the day.

The LOST 2 hour premiere starts tonight at 9pm!
I wonder if I will make it up to the end (it's sort of late and I usually have a to concentrate a fair amount to understand the show).
-
Thanks to Druxy and Jennifer.

Tuesday morning greetings! I have elected not to attend the grantwriters' meetings today, but will do some errands around town and try to get my cooking act back together.
Greeting me in my email this morning was a note from Amazon that my Finian's Rainbow CD has shipped and, since it's just coming from Lexington, KY, should be here tomorrow or Thursday!

Happiest of birthdays to DR Ben!

bk - Is it possible to adjust the color settings on your television to take out some of that yellow?
Not a good idea to tinker with TV settings once they're set. The transfers should be done correctly in order to be projected correctly with a properly calibrated set.
And I'm not sure that would work anyway because the minute you adjust one primary color, it's going to throw balance off for the others.
-
Good morning, Ben and happy birthday! I'm going to have a bowl of oatmeal today in your honor!
-
Back to reality...
-
Good morning!
I was looking forward to a walk this morning, but I woke up to rain and thus no walk. It's been raining steadily all morning, much to my chagrin.
-
Oscar nominations were announced this morning.
My biggest delight was that UP got nominated for Best Picture (and Best Animated Feature as well).
-
UPS made a huge delivery this morning: six items from Fox Home Video including five Blu-rays and THE MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW - Season Six. I think I can safely say that I will be SUPER busy the rest of the week.
I'll be beginning with AMELIA since it's the one release of a new film, the rest being vault titles of movies two years old or older.
-
TOD:
I agree with several titles already suggested here: Armstrong's "Hello, Dolly" chief among them.
Like Streisand's "He Touched Me" and "Starting Here, Starting Now" about as much as anything she ever recorded.
Of course, Judy Collins and Frank Sinatra both had hits with "Send in the Clowns," but I actually prefer Angela Lansbury's version in THE STEPHEN SONDHEIM CELEBRATION concert.
-
Happiest of Happy Birthdays to DR Ben!!!
-
Happy Birthday to occasional DR Iris!
-
Yes, LOST is the big news tonight, a recap hour-long show, and then a two hour season premiere. Advance word is that tonight's two hours are densely plotted and convoluted to say the least.
The other networks aren't playing dead either. All are offering new episodes of their hits opposite.
Don't forget another new WHITE COLLAR tonight at 10 on USA.
-
Thank you Ginny, Amy and Matt!
Ahh, oatmeal. As much as I like it I do miss the days when I could go to Perkins Cake and Steak and have Steak and Eggs or a Farmhand Breakfast (something like 3 pancakes, two eggs, bacon, ham or sausage and bottomless coffee). Now, not only is it bad for the cholesterol, I don't think I could eat that much food!
-
We were supposed to get heavy rains, but it's just drizzly.
I should check in with the groundhog, General Lee, and see what the future holds.
-
Goody! Early spring!

Punxsutawney Phil says six more weeks of winter but Staten Island Chuck says the opposite. I'll go with Chuck this year.

I also ate oatmeal in celebration of Ben's birthday.

How are you feeling lately, JMK?
-
Thanks to that lesbian whose posts I don't read who might have wished me a happy birthday.
-
Rain still coming down non-stop. Not heavily, just consistently.
-
I guess I'll get my desktop in order and then head downstairs to clear up a few things there before I start cooking lunch.
And I have last night's DAMAGES to watch while I eat (since CASTLE was a rerun that I've seen; I'll hold on to it for a while).

I'm still "not quite right" (ah, if only DAW were here ;D). I'm hoping the test results from the injected-dye CAT scan come back today or tomorrow.

I think there are some pages missing in that birthday story for Iris.
-
Mr. Barnum, you are too kind.
I did start the day reading the funnies, although I do it on line now, not in a physical paper. The NYTimes doesn't run comics anyway so I have to do it on line.
When we go to dinner in the Gayborhood I'll see if there are any honeys worth whistling at.
I will stuff myself at dinner, but I think I'll skip the cigar.
We will probably have dessert at home but who knows, depending on where we go and how much I stuff myself I may through caution to the wind and have dessert in the restaurant.
Thanks again for the great card from the past.

Brasil '66 did a tasty cover of the Newley-Bricusse THE JOKER. In fact I well remember Sergio and Tony on a Mike Douglas Show when Sergio thanked Tony for writing THE JOKER and Tony said, "No, no, thank you--that was the biggest selling version of that song. I made a mint in mechanicals." I didn't understand that reference for years. ;)

For fans of entertaining films, TCM will air the 1944 Paramount "ghost" story "The Uninvited" Thursday from 5-7 p.m. PST (8-9 p.m., EST)
The film stars Ray Milland and Ruth Hussey. There is a supporting character in the film called "Stella"...and it is she who is the "Stella" in the song "Stella By Starlight." Victor Young wrote the score and the theme that became "Stella By Starlight" when Ned Washington provided lyrics after the film was released. The song does not appear in the film and it does not actually reflect anything germane about the film or the character. Milland has a line in the film while he plays a piano. He says his composition is about "Stella by starlight".
It's a fun film...certainly worthy of your time and attention. And it's a rare occasion for this film to air on TV.

Oscar nominations were announced this morning.
My biggest delight was that UP got nominated for Best Picture (and Best Animated Feature as well).
I got this from the library and watched it the other day. I know a lot of people loved it. And I did enjoy it. It was beautiful to look at. But i found that the first hour sort of dragged on to get to the meat of the story.
And oddly enough i didn't find the two main characters to be that appealing. Although they did sort of grow on me.

I don't know how any of you feel about such things, but there is a "review" (!!! and that's being kind!!!) of the current PBS airing of "Emma" at Amazon.com that I find utterly imbecilic in context with the flaws the reviewer finds with the production:
Here is that review:
In the most recent TV adaptations of various Jane Austen, Thomas Hardy, and Bronte novels, a trend seems to have developed, that of poor casting. For example, the otherwise excellent 2006 BBC version of JANE EYRE was marred - if not ruined - by the casting of an actress who is endowed with extremely distracting, John Merrick (AKA the "Elephant Man")-like lips in the titular role; the 2009 ITV adaptation of WUTHERING HEIGHTS featured a Heathcliff who has a cartoonishly small mouth and lips that are far too full for a man of his complexion (also, the Catherine Earnshaw character was portrayed by an actress with a very masculine jawline); the lead actress in the 2008 version of TESS OF THE D'URBERVILLES has a long lower face, lips that are far too thick for someone of her pigmentation, and a voice so shrill that it can puncture eardrums; and the 2007 ITV remake of MANSFIELD PARK starred Billie Piper, who has also has freakishly full lips for someone that fair-skinned and a mouth that is cartoonishly large and spaced unusually far from her mouth (compared to the length of her chin) (NOTE: I neither expect nor desire indisputably beautiful actresses to get all of the leading roles, BUT there is a BIG difference between a "normal-looking" face [be it beautiful, plain, or whatever] and a funny-looking one, which tends, as I alluded to above, to distract the viewer from the story and the performances). And, even when producers and casting directors don't select lead actors who possess freaky-looking facial features, they still somehow botch it by casting actors who simply do not fit their roles in regard to appearance, as was illustrated by the actors chosen to play the lead parts in the 2007 ITV adaptation of PERSUASION (Anne Eliot is supposed to be a woman who was pretty in her youth, but is now well past her bloom yet the actress who portrays her certainly doesn't look like she's EVER been pretty and Captain Wentworth is played by a "pretty boy" whose face certainly doesn't look like it's been weathered by years spent at sea).
Such is the problem with the recent remake of Jane Austen's EMMA: the actress in the title role is, once again, sporting lips that are far too full for a woman with such fair skin and has an absolutely crazed look in her eyes whenever she's animated (she also appears to be more than a few years too old for the role) while this version of Knightly comes across as a priggish, boyish wimp, which is definitely not what Austen had in mind. Indeed, the casting of this film is very poor across the board (even Michael Gambon, who I've enjoyed in several other movies, seems out of place here). There are, of course, many other problems with this EMMA, several of which have been noted by my fellow reviewers.
Fortunately, poeple who would like to see EMMA on DVD can always purchase the 1996 ITV version, which though abbreviated, is more or less true to the book AND is very well cast and acted, starting with Kate Beckinsale as Emma and Mark Strong as Knightly. And, not only is it a much better adaptation than the latest one, but it's also sold here at Amazon for a lot less. Buy it.
The shallowness of the individual purporting to preach what characters should look like -- even suggesting that one's skin tone determines an appropriate degree of plumpness in the lips -- suggests a very disturbed and disturbing psyche (and there's a hint of racism in there, as well).
I don't know whether to accept it as a sincere representation of a disturbed mind...or as a joke, which it ultimately is.

I've been up since nine, but had to call Apple to discuss some endless problems I've been having with Time Machine and other weirdnesses that have been going on. I got a really nice gal and we went through some things and then she had me nuke two cache folders. That made me nervous, but she assured me there would be two new cache folders to replace it. We did it, restarted the computer and I must say that everything is now running much quicker and the Time Machine backups are working properly now. So, maybe something corrupt was in those cache folders.
-
Since that all took about an hour, I then went right to work, smoothing out yesterday's writing, which took quite a while since I'd done twenty pages. I just wrote two new pages and I think I'll go grab a quick sandwich and then really buckle down Winsocki and do at least ten pages.

Victor Young wrote the score and the theme that became "Stella By Starlight" when Ned Washington provided lyrics after the film was released.
I believe I set my DVR to record this. It is a movie that I have somehow missed.
-
How many episodes of SPARTACUS have been aired on STARZ?
Two.

Today I went for a walk. It was just to Walgreens. So I saw nothing of interest.
You could have snapped a shot of their Valentine's Day candy.

Oh! Oh! Oh! "Stella by Starlight!" Can someone please burn me a DVD??????????
There was a small supplement attached to the New York Times' Magazine this week with a highlights listing of TCM's 31 Days of Oscar® (http://www.tcm.com/2010/31Days/index.jsp). I made sure to go through the list and set my DVR accordingly. And then when I pulled up the Full Schedule* (http://i.cdn.turner.com/v5cache/TCM/2010/31Days/finalsite_v1/_pdf/31DaysSchedule.pdf), well...
*That's a PDF file. -And the site has LOTS of Flash.

DR JRand59. last night at the concert I met a friend's roommate Zach, and I kept thinking he looked really familiar. It was tenor Zachary Stains, our favorite operatic Hercules! I guess I didn't recognize him dressed and without a blond wig.
He's very funny and charming.
-
And here he is dressed.
-
Back from a solo trip to Trenton, OH, to the jeweler for a watch battery and to the grocery store. I am exhausted.
-
Hercules is someone's room mate - only in NYC!
I have downloaded the first two episodes, so I have them all.....once I have a few, I will burn them to a DVD.
-
Was ERCOLE mentioned?
-
What do people think of the nominations?
-
HA!
And I just happened to run into Mr. Stains yesterday afternoon!
<cue the spooky music>

Back from a sandwich and no fries, and shall now continue my writing ways.

Here is an interesting thing I just discovered about Word - once you get over 100,000 words it doesn't display the word count anymore - you actually have to click on that section of the task bar at the bottom to see how many words you've written. Which may tell you that I have crossed the 100,000 word line.
-
Was ERCOLE mentioned?
No, because I just knew him last night as Zach. I think we'll be working on a project together and I will give him grief about it.
-
What do people think of the nominations?
No surprises.
-
And now I am 57. How the hell did that happen???
One day at a time, Ben...one day at a time. :)
-
What do people think of the nominations?
There's a lot of local interest in Woody Harrelson's nomination because he graduated from Lebanon (OH) High School and this nomination for Best Documentary Short (http://www.daytondailynews.com/entertainment/movies-showtimes/local-gm-documentary-gets-oscar-nomination-525127.html) resonates both because of the subject matter and the personnel. Julia used to attend my fundraising programming at the library.

Andy Borowitz on CATCHER IN THE RYE:
HOLLYWOOD (The Borowitz Report) – Just hours after author J.D. Salinger passed away at his New Hampshire home on Wednesday, Hollywood studios were already salivating at the chance to finally ruin his masterpiece, Catcher in the Rye.
“If we are fortunate enough to acquire the rights to Mr. Salinger’s book, we pledge to stay faithful to the spirit of Catcher in the Rye,” said Dougy Binstock, a producer at Columbia Pictures. “And the best way to do that is by producing it as a rock opera.”
But even as Mr. Binstock was bidding for the rights to produce a film he hopes to call Phantom of the Rye, Mindy Hammerfur, an executive at Paramount Pictures, said she thought Salinger's book was “seriously in need of a reboot.”
“We never find out in the book how Holden Caulfield becomes the catcher in the rye,” said Ms. Hammerfur. “The movie really needs to be kind of a prequel.”
But of all the potential bidders hoping to desecrate Catcher in the Rye, Avatar director James Cameron may have the inside track.
“I loved this book as a boy and I’m not going to change a thing,” Mr. Cameron said, “except for adding blue space-cats.”
Elsewhere, CBS said it had rejected an ad for a gay dating site for the 2010 Super Bowl, but that it would still air three hours of men in tight pants slapping each other on the ass.
-
What will they call it, American Idiot?
-
Maybe I will send you my ERCOLE dvd sleeve for an autograph.
Nominations?
It makes me realize how out of touch I am with current trends....and also how a lot of the current trends are so much crap.

TOD
Dislike:
Gordon Grody: The Ballad of Sweeney Todd (Disco)
Horseracing...this is a "like" for me. ;)
-
I think my favorite is
Liz Callaway's My Heart Is So Full Of You.
Absolutely Gorgeous
For me its a perfect recording.
Vocal
Orchestration
Arrangements
The mix (or whatever the technical term is)
I can listen to the song over and over.
The Instrumental break soars especially with the piano playing of
Alex Rybeck
This is followed by Joey, Joey on the same recording
If you can find the cd "Anywhere I Wonder" I highly recommend it.
Michael, I completely agree with you!
-
Topic of the Day:
I love the 1975 recording (reissued on CD) of "Send in the Clowns" by Anni-Frid Lyngstad, the brunette in ABBA. She sings it in Swedish and I would assume that it's the first recording of the song in the language of the movie that the musical is based on.
Does anyone know if there is a Swedish recording of A Little Night Music??

Unless something goes horribly wrong, I can. I want to see this, also. Theater Artists Olympia did this show in December.

Matt, my comment yesterday regarding CURTAIN was made in jest (Note: the smiley ;)).
I did note the smiley/wink. However, you have to understand that the only time I ever left this forum was due to a mild comment about spoilers which rankled, and I have to say that one did too, as you no doubt saw.
Sorry, but on the subject of spoilers, I just don't see the humor, and I never will.

Speaking of telecasts on TCM, I forgot to mention it last night, but I tuned in to the telecast of FUNNY GIRL hoping to see it in HD on TCM-HD, and I was sorely disappointed that it wasn't broadcast in HD. Boo, TCM!

TOD: The Plaids singing "The Ballad of Sweeney Todd."
-
What do people think of the nominations?
In the major categories, pretty much as expected.
I have't looked at some of technical categories yet. They hadn't been uploaded this morning when I was surfing. I'll see them later.
-
I like DR Laura's TOD responses!
-
And speaking of SPOILERS...
Remember - "Lost" starts back up tonight. -As if those DRs who watch the show needed any reminder about that. ;)
*And I guess that DR Michael S will not be reading this site for the next few months. ::) -Unless he decides to watch them "live" this time around instead of waiting for the DVDs.
-
And the bird pix of yesterday. One of them I've never heard of much less have any idea how to pronounce!
-
DR Michael S - Sorry, I don't/didn't mean to talk behind your back as it were, but... Keep an eye for SPOILER ALERTS every Wednesday night and Thursday morning (at least) over the next few months. -Just in case you do decided to wait for the DVDs again.
-
Regarding the nominations: I've only seen one or two nominees this year. It was just not a movie-going year for us. I do feel SO SAD that Clint wasn't nominated for best director or picture for INVICTUS. SO SAD!
-
I watched last night's DAMAGES while I ate lunch. Good show, but with many more flashes to six months in the future than I remember them having in past seasons. They sure add to the build-up of tension over the course of the next few weeks.
-
And, once again, here's a link to the Lorem Ipsum (http://www.lipsum.com/) page should any DRs be in need of "dummy" text in their SPOILERS.

Or even Tuesday nights and Wednesday mornings.

Noted and corrected and DUH'd. :)
Thanks, DR MattH.
*I guess I should look at a calendar more often.

I happened to look at an LA Weekly on my flight home and saw the Residents were playing in LA. Then I looked into my email and saw one to say they were coming to Atlanta. So I will be going over to the venue and picking up tickets pronto. They don't tour here very often so it's exciting!
-
Then I settled in with my work project for the day - AMELIA.
Kind of a yawn actually. It's OK (covering the years 1928-37), but there was no energy at all to the direction, the performances, the script. It ticked off some of Earhart's major accomplishments during those years, but apart from a host of good actors and an OK depiction of the era, it wasn't involving at all as, say, THE AVIATOR was.

Well, I just figured you were thinking tonight was Wednesday. Happens to the best of us. Last week, I thought Friday was Saturday all day long.

Re: tongue...I've never eaten it. I've seen it packaged in slices, but the first time I saw the whole tongue was in a case at Canter's deli in LA. Once I saw the whole tongue I couldn't imagine eating it. Blech.
-
Oh...
Laters...
-
Then I looked at all the bonus features for AMELIA. There was no commentary so that saved a ton of time. There were 10 deleted scenes, a couple of EPK featurettes where everything praises everyone else on the cast and crew. There was one interesting featurette on the three Earhart planes that were reconstructed for the movie - the Friendship, the Vega, and the Electra. And there were 7 newsreel clips that featured highlights of Earhart's career.
-
When my Little French Boy and I travelled around Quebec, we stopped for diner at a restaurant whose specialty was "cod tongue". We asked the surly old French waitress what it was. She looked at us as if we were idiots. "Why, it is ze tong...of ze cod."
We ordered it but were giggling all through dinner. I think we were very tired.

What do people think of the nominations?
I'm disappointed that Stanley Tucci wasn't nominated for JULIE & JULIA, but at least he got one for THE LOVELY BONES.

I have no taste for tongue. :o

I'm glad he was nominated for something. He's deserved recognition for a long time. Sadly, that Oscar is already spoken for, I fear. In fact, I think all the acting Oscars are already pretty much decided.
-
Then I skimmed through both ATWT and OLTL. Nothing of interest in either one, and nothing in the previews of ATWT either.

Looked at the technical nominations. Glad to see two songs from THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG get nominated, and one of those new songs for NINE (though I haven't heard any of them, of course).
Delighted that UP scored so well in important categories.

I guess I'll hop off-line now and get some writing done.

DR JANE I am glad you enjoyed A TALE OF TWO CITIES with Mr Bogarde.....as I wrote, Edna May Oliver was a more entertaining Miss Pross.....and Lucille LaVerne WAS Madame DeFarge in the Colman version .... but the leads in the 1958 version were outstanding.....
Marie Versini who played Marie was beautiful & very moving. We missed the opening narration from the novel. it was distracting enough Darnay did not look like Carton, they could at least been closer in height, unless i'm forgetting something from the novel.
it has been way too long since i've seen the Ronald Colman version to compare.

Don't watch it alone, Mikey, you might get scared.

I'm not worried about being sued - first off, not that many people are going to read it. Second, if David Cassidy can say he slept with Susan Dey then I can talk about our little fling. If the two people I diss (and not in a terrible way - I just recount the two incidents) take exception, then they can take a look in the mirror and try to figure out why they're the kind of people they are. I've read a LOT of biographies AND autobiographies filled with much, MUCH worse things (anyone read Mr. Laurents' tome?). No one sues. This is a free country as I understand it. If I was telling specious lies then sure, someone could do something.
-
I've written seventeen pages so far. I had to get through the treacherous territory. I knew it would be difficult emotionally but I think I did it okay and it's really short and to the point - I don't dwell on it or get too maudlin or icky, I think. But it was like having to write the end of Kritzer Time - just made me very emotional. We'll see if muse Margaret likes it.
-
We actually talked about changing the names of the two people who might take exception. It certainly would be easy, but Margaret's point is, it makes me look like I'm scared to mention them - they did what they did, that's the reality. They didn't kill anybody or rob a bank - they both, in their own ways, behaved selfishly and I thought the stories were interesting enough to relate.
-
I think I'll take a break right now. I'm thinking I'm in the final fifty to seventy pages of the book. And I'm thinking I may just want to finish by Saturday night. We'll see if that happens.

If you want the story to be an autobiography that i wouldn't change the names. I guess then that these are people that others would have heard of, otherwise i would just mention the first name (since the last name would not mean anything except to the actual person).

My grandmother used to make tongue when i was little. I remember my family eating it, but i never would.

I sent Kristine an apology for missing her film tonight, I had a deelish dinner, and I'm staying in. I'll sleep late tomorrow moring and see if I can shake this damned cold.
I think I will start organizing my tax receipts tonight within various categories, like separating the utilities into Con Ed, AT&T, Time Warner, etc.

I don't know how any of you feel about such things, but there is a "review" (!!! and that's being kind!!!) of the current PBS airing of "Emma" at Amazon.com that I find utterly imbecilic in context with the flaws the reviewer finds with the production:
Brings to mind the idiotic comments of a well known critic regarding Brendon Fraser in "Gods and Monsters" The critic complained Fraser wasn't attractive (appealing, something like that) enough to be someone's obsession.
Aside from the fact i totally disagreed I've seen far stranger attractions & thought it very petty of the critic.
-
My grandmother used to make tongue when i was little. I remember my family eating it, but i never would.
so did my mother. we wouldn't it it until it was sliced, out of our view. i only ate it served hot with cabbage, never as a sandwich.

I don't know from the TOD.

i don't know much about the Oscar nominations having only seen JULIE & JULIA, which we thought was enjoyable, not great. We watched part of CORALINE & turned it off. We only watched to see Ashland & the scene was disappointingly brief. i don't think i have heard a single nominated song.

Cod tongue and tongue tacos.
I would have to be VERY VERY VERY Hungry to even consider eating either of these delicacies.

I guess it was supposed to mostly be a resemblance in demeanor, DR JANE. Lucy thought Dirk was Darnay the day after she met him when Dirk was sleeping in a chair....but yes the book remarks on their resemblance.
-
I forgot I did hear ONE funny line in all of the HERE'S LUCY shows, although it was almost killed by Gale Gordon's over the top delivery....
"No, I wouldn't worry if Lucille was missing for a year. I would just assume she was 12 months late for work."

The wonderful BBC production from the late 1980s uses two actors: James Wilby for Carton and Xavier Deluc for Darnay and an excellent cast of French and British actors.

more similar than the 1958 film.

I recently finished (except for a polish) my own memoirs, and I did change a few names.
They are not really names that you would know and, after reading the context and doing some research, you could probably figure out who they were, but I figured: "Why buy trouble?"
Chances are that none of them will read the book, but a couple of them are real assholes who might sue just to be mean and get a settlement.

Shayne: Yes, one of them is JP - I've already told the story many times and even on your site devoted to ME.

Sue for WHAT? You're telling a story that presumably has basis in truth. I'm sure you've read many autobiographies that are filled with kiss and tell stories, and bad things about people.

But, for the life of me, I don't remember this guy or his character.
What was his role?

For those of you with PS3's who ordered the new Uni Vault titles, I'm wondering if you experienced what I did today. I'm assuming because of the auto-replay feature, my PS3 did not stay turned off after the movie ended and I turned it off via remote. A few seconds later (twice in fact), it just rebooted and started playing the film again, LOL.

So Ben, did you have dessert? Or a cigar?
-
I had a wonderful birthday dinner at Lasagne though I didn't have lasagne. I had chicken breast with artichoke hears in a white wine sauce. It was excellent and our waiter (our regular server when we go there) slipped us a piece of very dense and very delicious flourless chocolate cake!
We then came home and I opened my gift, an LP to CD transfer of the album of The Boys in the Band. I had that record for many years and knew it practically by heart. We recently watched the movie and a friend of ours has the album. Anthony secreted it away and transferred the record to CD and made a very extensive booklet. It's beautiful and I'm very happy.
I have had a wonderful birthday. Thanks to everyone who was part of it, including all you people out there in the dark.

Looked at the technical nominations. Glad to see two songs from THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG get nominated, and one of those new songs for NINE (though I haven't heard any of them, of course).
Delighted that UP scored so well in important categories.
The music supervisor played me a song written for THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG that was dropped. Alicia Keys sang it; she was auditioning for the role. They decided her voice didn't song young enough. But boy, it was great hearing her ing one of Randy's songs. And hooray for Randy; I hope his two songs don't cancel each other out!

G'night!

Nice! I have this album also, but I don't remember if I've ever actually listened to it. ::)
Someday (when I set up my record player again), I'll check it out.
-
And now, I'm off to my parents' house for dinner. We're having spaghetti. But I WILL be home before "Lost" starts. I'm recording it, so that shouldn't be a problem, but I don't want to see it later, I want to watch it as it's happening! :D
Until later!

CONGRATULATIONS DR FJL!!!!
DR Jane
I think FJL was making a joke.
I've been on a diet for a week. So far I've lost seven days.
I think you read it as pounds ;D
-
I had dessert and the cigar will come later!
Is that a euphemism?
-
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DR BEN!!!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DR IRIS!!

The open house went very well. There were a lot of people from the Chamber of Commerce. Many i was meeting either for the first time or who I had met in passing but didn't really know. I had a number of friends come as well. everyone liked the office very much. Gretchen and Carol served and helped out ALOT. They have both fallen asleep - one on the couch and one on the chair. Think I'll wake them up and suggest they go up to sleep
-
Better go. More tomorrow
-
Glad it went well, Cillaliz.

Has anyone heard that Justin Mentell of "Boston Legal" was killed in a car accident in Wisaconsin?
yes. he was so young, :( i don't remember him on the show, maybe he was on after we stopped watching.
I watched every episode of BOSTON LEGAL. In fact, I have all the seasons on DVD.
But, for the life of me, I don't remember this guy or his character.
What was his role?
I also saw every episode and don't remember his character. The character's name was Garrett Wells (i looked it up on imdb.com). It says he was on in 2005-2006 for 16 episodes. I wish it said more so that it might jog my memory.

Well I stayed up for the entire 2 hours of LOST. Not sure yet how much i liked it. I need to think about it more (it was confusing!).
-
When I went back down, I watched BILLY THE KID on TCM-HD which I had recorded this afternoon. Looked nice, and I had never seen it before, so I enjoyed seeing Robert Taylor looking quite wonderful.
-
I am happy to report that my interview with the ravishing LISA MONTELL, star of SHE GODS OF SHARK REEF, WORLD WITHOUT END, and DAUGHTER OF THE SON GOD is in the new issue of CLASSIC IMAGES.

Then I watched more of the ladies figure skating finals. Some of the earlier contestants did not have good consistency.
-
Next I watched NCIS. It was a good case this week, but Rena Soffer is extremely irritating.
-
Then I watched the two hour season premiere of LOST.
Loved the two-tiered approach to storytelling and found both levels throughly engrossing. And how wonderful to see some of our favorites from the early seasons.
-
I understand that Steven Spielberg is planning a new version of JAWS- The Title-You guessed it- will be called TONGUE !
-
I just found out that best friend John and I will be attending a production of BILOXI BLUES tomorrow night. Haven't seen it on stage in decades, so it should be entertaining. It got a very positive review in the newspaper over the weekend.
-
My work project tomorrow will be the shortest of the Blu-rays I have in the stack since I'll be gone from the house tomorrow evening:
ONG-BAK: THE THAI WARRIOR.
Nope, I've never seen this before.
-
I also have WALK THE LINE (Johnny Cash biography) and THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND along with THE MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW - Season 6 to do this week. Someone else is doing TO LIVE AND DIE IN L.A.
-
I guess I need to finish up in the office so I can go downstairs to bed. It's an hour later than usual due to LOST's season premiere.
-
Oh, rats!
Good night!
-
I forgot Lost premiered tonight, but I've got it on the DVR so I can watch it at my leisure, probably this weekend.
-
Finished with my viewing.

PAGE 10 DANCE

Good Evening!
The Chili Pepper Hot Chocolate at City Bakery was quite tasty. There was a nice "heat" to the finish.
Just sayin'.
:)

Lengua is muy delicioso!!

Oh... And, yes... It's snowing in New York City!
Pretty

DR Cillaliz - Any leftovers? ;)

How come I didn't see Jose in Every Little Step?
-
Just had a little tuna for my snack.

bk - As for your "naming names"... As DR Druxy stated, some people could sue just for the sake of suing. -Which would cause expenses for them and you - whether or not a settlement is reached. I think the thing you may want to think about is discussing your decision process on this publicly accessible and searchable site. I do admire your candor and "bravery", but it could all end up becoming kindling for that proverbial fire. Saying that you "did not think you would have to check with anyone" (and I'm paraphrasing) could be interpreted as if you were almost asking for litigation. -At least to me.
But, remember, I'm not a lawyer, nor do I play one on TV.
-
How come I didn't see Jose in Every Little Step?
Because you saw my friend, Jason Debord, instead. -I was officially brought on board three months after the revival opened. However, I did play some of the initial auditions for the revival - the ones that did not take place in front of the cameras.
-
I'm not worried about being sued - first off, not that many people are going to read it.
So... You don't want to sell a lot of copies?
;)

Like:
Ella Fitzgerald: Mack The Knife
from the Live In Berlin album where she goes up on the lyrics and improvises
I LOVE this recording!! I got the CD reissue with four previously unreleased tracks.
I wonder if I actually still have it. :-\
Whenever I would eat at Bogart's in Richmond (which recently relocated to a new location), I would always select that version of "Mack the Knife" from the jukebox. It was always fun looking around the dining room and noticing people who's ears had perked up when Ella went up on her words. :)

Just took a nice hot shower and am now very relaxed.

The thing about doing a book like this is the number of precedents that have been set. I will, of course, be getting advice on various things, but if one ran scared there would simply be no book. I always mention the Laurents book because he is genuinely a vicious person and he pulls no punches.

OK... Since I really don't want to find myself staying up until 6:00 or 7:00 AM again...
Goodnight.

Ah, but their relatives and estates are not.
