Well, you've read the notes, you marched through the notes, and now it is time for you to post until the marching cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: LUMMOX!
-
Welcome eight GUESTS! Nobody here but us chickens.
-
It's not Ask BK Day, but I was wondering: BK - Do your students in your workshop get graded? If so, is it based on their average work throughout the term or based on where they end up in terms of accomplishment by the end of the term?
-
Boy, I'm online early. I wonder if it's tax season or something.
Good morning, Larry!
-
Re word of the day - isn't there a lyric somewhere like "I'm stuck on this big dumb lummox/Who turns my head but turns their stomachs" - or something like that?
-
Especially with the new standard set by "Hard Out Here for a Pimp" (a soon-to-be overused-by-me Oscars reference), lummox and stomachs might actually be a perfect rhyme depending on how you pronounce it..

Hello, Fred! Good morning, all! I'm listening to the unreleased BABES IN TOYLAND, thinking about today's schedule, and wishing the new neighbor above me would put down some carpet or wear different shoes. She's already up this morning, seems to be out from around 9 am to 10 pm. Last night there was a herd in her apartment around 10, they all went out and around 12:30 am returned, rather noisily. I don't think she's giving rhumba lessons.
TOD:
DVD: HARRY POTTER #4, LA FINTA GIARDINIERA
CD: Babes in Toyland, Guy Haines, Classics for Pleasure operettas

I don't know why I'm prompted to recall this story, but the PIMP song reminds me of a moment from my adolescence. Gimbel's Department Store was running a commercial with the exciting theme song "Gimbel's is getting better every day." My Mom came running into the room when she first heard that commercial shouting "What's that commercial for? Should we get some of that stuff?" I was very confused, until she said she was sure they were singing "Pimples are getting better every day."
A childhood memory, and to think that memory was all brought on by that Pimp song. :)

I do not have any film viewing plan, but I do plan to listen to some Amanda McBroom over the weekend.
I wasn't allowed to post from Netscape on this here site. So I have tried Mozilla.

Is the Babes in Toyland the final mix? Or is there still more work that has to be done on it?
There are small fixes to be done, but that won't happen till the release plans are finalized.

Jose, Anthony received an e-mail from Nick with wedding news and pictures. Great news and great pictures. Wow, to get married and have your father (Nick's dad is a minister) perform the ceremony. I don't know if that's good or bad ;-)
-
Don't let the movie of WHERE THE TRUTH LIES make you decide not to read the book (if you already haven't). The book is excellent and probably comes in a close second to the Kritzer Trilogy as my favorite book from the last five or six years.
CD - Nancy Anderson's new CD "Ten Cents a Dance"
DVD - The recently released Fox musicals
VHS - FX's Black/White documentary (aka "We Changed our Race")

Good Morning!
Supposed to get up in the mid-70s here today, and be quite windy too. Well, I can already tell the wind is in gear - the house has been making noises all morning. Hopefully, I'll get outside sometime today, and since my foot and leg are feeling better, I may even try to go for a run, or at least a brisk walk.
So... If DR MattH started walking north about now... And I started walking south... I guess we could meet up in South Hill, VA, sometime next week. :)
-
DR Ben - I guess Nick has started getting word out "wide". I'm hoping to see more pics of the nuptials soon too.
-
As for the Friday Media Check...
After a few weeks of catching up on CDs, this past week has been media-less... Unless you count primetime TV viewing. Next week...
-
Good morning everyone. I don't have much to add to the media check. Nothing in the VCR or DVD player, but I do have The Emancipation of Mimi on my iPod.
-
I have Bride and Prejudice in the DVD player at home but haven't seen it yet.
This weekend we are attending the Bat Mitzvah of the Vixter's best friend Emily
We have never been to as temple or a Bat Mitzvah celebration before so we are all quite looking forward to this occasion.
The Vixter is a little overwhelmed by the prospect of sitting through three hours of ceremony, most of which we have been assured, will be in Hebrew, but for Emily she is going to be there.
-
Friday morning greetings! What was I thinking last night, staying up past 11pm working on my resume when I had to be at a breakfast meeting at 8 this morning?
Media check: CD, in the car on the way to that meeting - Wendy Wasserstein's The Sisters Rosensweig, a recording of the LA Theatre Works production starring Jamie Lee Curtis, JoBeth Williams, Caroline Aaron, Tony Roberts, and John Vickery (who we saw as Henry Higgens here in Dayton last fall).
iPod, as I type - Cincinnati Pops plays Andrew Lloyd Webber.
DVD - Madagascar
VCR - nothing
-
Good morning all. No, Jed and I have not fallen off the face of the earth, we're just busy moving these days. The process has been a slow one thus far, but should pick up speed dramatically when we get his grandfather's truck this weekend to move the big stuff. The weatherman seems to be giving us a one day window, Sunday, between storms, and that is when we intend to get the bulk of the furniture moving done.
Meanwhile, I've got the bug that seems to be going around (I blame Jose) and it has made itself at home in my throat. My speaking voice is pathetic, nearly gone yesterday. This makes trying to control a room full of two year olds really difficult...
-
Good moving-weather vibes for DRs Ann and Jed!

Can you spell "Cattle Prod"?
-
Ooooooohhhh, who woke up with a headache???
-
Hey, Jane is in town - got a voicemail last night. I'll call her later today and try to hook up. Good ol' Jane!!!
-
Good morning!
It rained before I got up this morning, but the clouds have been clearing for the last little while, and it looks to be a nice day with temps in the mid-70s.
Yes, DR Jose, I do plan to take a walk later today, but probably not in a northerly direction! :)
-
My friend Gregg who often accompanies me to NYC in the summer is arriving in town tonight, and we have dinner plans so that will be a delightful change from the usual.
-
My back aches....
-
~~~Good Moving Weather Vibes~~~
for Jed and Ann
-
Most of the networks have new shows on tonight. The CBS dramas are all new, but are preempted here for the ACC Basketball Tournament. Thankfully, I don't watch them. I'll be having the DVR pick up IN JUSTICE, CONVICTION, and MONK.
Gregg had mentioned wanting to see the movie of SORDID LIVES, and I do have it, so I suspect we'll be seeing it tonight after dinner.
-
I thought CSI was a repeat last night for some reason so I didn't watch it.... Vixdad tells me I missed a good one. DRAT!
Oh well it will show up in Spike eventually.
-
My back aches....
I can empathize having come through my own back troubles a week ago. Feel better!!!
Yes, it was a new episode, and as I mentioned last night, different from the usual show in that a reality TV crew was following them around and half the episode was footage they had filmed rather than their actual "live" conversations. Thus, conversations filmed through windows, doorways, etc. Nice change.
-
Friday Media Check:
CD - home: GIRL CRAZY (soundtrack)
car: GOLDEN BOY (OBC)
DVD - FUNNY FACE
FIREFLY - disc 4
SORDID LIVES
DVR - THE SINGING DETECTIVE
SUNDAY PUNCH (William Lundigan-Dan Dailey)
-
I made the same mistake with LAW & ORDER this week. NBC ran a rerun at 9, but a new episode at 10. For some reason, I thought the 10 p.m. show was a rerun, too, so I didn't record it.
-
Thanks for the vibes... think I'm gonna go raid the medicine cabinent and see what pain releivers we have on hand
-
Yes, DR Jose, I do plan to take a walk later today, but probably not in a northerly direction! :)
Well, with the way the wind is gusting outside right now, I may have no choice in the matter.
Guess I'll step in the shower now and get ready for the rest of the day.
Actually now I think about it I did fall down yesterday morning. I caught the hem of my pants on the bottom of the storm door and pushed the door shut and tried to walk down the front steps at the same time resulting ina me landing ina a rather ungraceful heap on the front stoop while the Vixter cried," Mama are you a having a stroke?!"
Apparently she learned the warning signs of a stroke in health class and one of them seems to be falling down.
-
SHE MOB?
I am intrigued.
-
Sounds like the class is going well...and congrats on getting the CD's in time! Are these the ones that will be offered on Kritzerland?
-
As DR WEL wrote, don't let the movie version of WHERE THE TRUTH LIES put you off the book!
The leading lady killed the movie for me - among OTHER things. As was commented here last week - most people didn't even know the movie had been released. As Molly Bee said about THE CHARTROOSE CABOOSE..."It didn't release, it escaped!"
-
Lovely pics DR TPUNK!
Moving vibes for DRJED & DRANN - and I am SURE I saw DRJED in that Subway commercial!
Earlier this week, I posted (about the Oscars):
"At the time they walked off the stage, the winners of Documentary -- Short had me grinning. They were so over-the-top and so....French. But, they were a highlight for me...very grateful and funny."
And François asked last night what did I mean by using "French" in that manner...what was I getting at.
My intent was to imply an "overbounding enthusiasm" that I idiotically and insensitively classify as a French trait.
Sorry if you were offended.
-
DR Jennifer: You might look back at some of my predictions about Idol....four of the people in my bottom six left last night.
-
What a wonderful way to start the day!
I got all my papers graded and tests made this morning, and then I returned to last night's posts.
Oh were you people ever in rare form! I snickered myself into stitches. Of course, FJL was the prime mover, punwise, as usual, but everyone from Paris to Oz took up the gauntlet. Let it never be said than any other site on the Internet has more meaningless messages than this here site.
I can only assume you had all been doing body shots at the library.
Of course, as soon as BK showed up the room cleared out. Perhaps it was his cologne?
-
My "Idol" watching was interrupted by a phone call last night. At first, it was great hearing from this person, but the call went on and on and on and on and on and on...and I was just saying, "Uh-huh," "yep", "I could have told you that," etc., etc., etc.
I like "being there" for friends....but I hate being taken for a ride. When the call was two hours old, I stopped the one-sided dialogue and said I needed to go because it was near my bedtime and I had some things I needed to do. My caller got huffy, apologized for taking up my valuable time and hung up!
It saddens me, but I pray it's the last I ever hear from this person.
-
Did I miss a new "Smallville" last night? Time totally got away from me.
While the new CSI was airing, I was totally on the phone and not able to follow the story.
-
I'm up, I'm up - and at last got a good night's sleep.
Yes, I do have to grade the students, and what I've told them is that they'll all get good grades if they at least make an attempt to do what the class asks of them. I actually have to spell all this out in a syllabus this weekend, as that is now required by law - yet another sop to today's entitled children - certainly we didn't have such thing when I went to LACC.
Yes, these CDs are on Kritzerland and you can preorder them shortly. The info will be in the notes, but the new titles should be up on the Kritzerland site by this evening, along with art and audio clips.
-
It was cold here this morning. A lot of hills have snow on them that I have heretofore NOT seen snow upon.
But....it's still in the forecast that "we" (us'ns at sea level) may see snow tonight and tomorrow morning.
Don't know now if that's a good thing or not.
-
I watched, last night, my tape of Wednesday's episode of "Invasion"....GREAT STUFF!
This show really moves in unexpected directions and has unsettling diversions that remind me of the best elements of "The X-Files" while being completely different from that show.
-
Well, that is the bestest news. It was so hard for three years to do without my regular fix of new BK-produced CDs, and now that I'm back on the drug I have a voracious appetite.
I'm not yet starving for food, but I'm thinking about it.
And I'm thinking of something hot and savory and wonderful.
I'm thinking the Friday special at Huynh, a Vietnamese restaurant.
And the Friday special is CLAY POT...with green beans, zucchini, mushrooms, onions, shrimp, crab and rice.
Oh....YUM!
It's Friday, it's payday.
I've been most productive, thus far.
But I feel....I don't know...sort of...achy...not necessarily bad achy...but still achy.
I've got seven hours to go (including lunch hour), but I think it will move quickly.
Actually now I think about it I did fall down yesterday morning.
And you're just equating that with your aches?
You're closer to my age than I thought!
;D
Now you can call me Ray
Or you can call me Jay
You can also call me Ray-Jay
But you doesn't has to call me Johnson!
No, I believe that was Earthen Ware.
In my CD player: "Maria Friedman Live" and Lionel Bart & Laurie Johnson's Lock Up Your Daughters (which just came in the mail last night), but first, the two-show CD, Time After Time/Dodsworth: New Songs from New Musicals. For a while, I thought that this was the show written by FJL's Skip, but it's not. He wrote Time and Again, which I don't have. Anyway, TAT/D has Liz Callaway, Judy Blazer, Walter Charles and Chrstian Borle. Good singers, all!
In my VCR: a tape (or tapes) to tape the shows that I can't watch live (as they're being broadcast, that is ;). I watch more shows on a Friday than any other day of the week!
In my DVD player: a whole bunch of brand new, unwatched DVDs.
Good Afternoon!
Well, I think I'm going to head out for a bit. I need to escape from the fruit flies - at least I hope that's all they are - that seemed to have invaded my parents' house over the past few days. There's not a lot of them, but even just one or two flying around one's head can be a bit annoying. So... Time to head outside for a bit and enjoy the Spring/Summer-like weather.
Laters...
I'm sorry....WHAT?
-
I know what you mean, DRVIXMOM.
It's hard to change the world when you don't know where you left your car keys.
Or...where you parked the car last....
-
Laughing all the way...
I just returned to the office from giving an exam in my dreaded Financial Applications of Mathematics course (sans Nancy Sinatra, as usual). Earlier, I had read BK's comments on the movie Where the Truth Lies and realized that I had a copy of Rupert Holmes' novel somewhere around the office.
So while my students were suffering under the lash of compound interest and exponential growth formulas, I was rocking in my seat to the tune of the first two chapters.
And of course, Rupert's writing style is so perfect that it is one aspect of the book that could never be captured on the screen.
Some novels read like screenplays--Rosemary's Baby is one that comes to mind, and presumably that is what the author has his eyes on. But Rupert's writing is clearly focused on the printed page.
And funny. Did I mention funny?
-
I shall have to see if I can get this at the library!
-
Bill... Starbucks fan yea or nay?
I was given two pounds of their coffee and it'll just go to waste in our house, we only make coffee when you're coming over! LOL!
-
I think....the sun is starting to shine....I think.
-
DR RLP, on the WB site last night's SMALLVILLE was marked as a repeat. And when I was flicking through the channels I saw a scene with someone who is no longer alive on the show. So I guess it was a repeat!
-
As for last night's IDOL.
.
.
.
I was not surprised that Will and Konnik had the lowest, since they were the weakest. But I guess I was a bit surprised with the other 2 who left. While Bucky and Gedeon were my least favorite men, and Ayla and Melissa my least favorite women, I still thought that Gedeon and Ayla would stay.
I think Ayla and Melissa were the weakest of the remaining women. And as DR MattH said, Melissa will surely be the next woman to go. I just for some reason thought Ayla would make top 12. And same for Gedeon. His personality just put me off from the beginning. But the judges have sort of liked him, so i thought he might stay for a while.
-
Sure, vixmom. As long as it isn't decaf.
-
They say we will get rain!! Hooray!!! I think we are on Day 141 (or thereabouts) of no rain.
I am trying to see if DRs Kerry and MusicGuy would like to plan a spontaneous outing daytrip tomorrow.
I love LOCK UP YOUR DAUGHTERS. Glynis Johns plays Mrs Squeezum in ther film version.
But could it be staged today? It's about as un-PC as one could imagine. Just like the poor late lamented "Rape" from The Fantasticks.
And you can count on Joe and me as two for brunch--health and stuff permitting.
As Mrs. Squeezum says,
When does the ravishing begin?
You could burst me with a pin,
So much sin I'm holding in.
Answer to DR Ron Pulliam;
Me, offended? Nah! Not at all!
On the contrary, your comments were positive but I just wanted to know more!
It's not every day that French folks are congratulated by the Hollywood community; I guess they were giddy but in a more subdued way than Mr Benigni...
I did not see the Award Ceremony myself!
Found a copy of the BK Executive produced Bay Cities released cd of Brent Spiner "Ol' Yellow Eyes Is Back", but the French pressing by Milan... this very evening!
I mean... I found it this very evening!
Otherwise, I've been listening to GYPSY again, the original, and it still sounds the best!
Bye for now.
-
~Calm and Worry Free Vibes~~to DR Ginny
I am sure that the job posting is merely a bureacratic requirement
-
I didn't know that BK executive prodiuced "Old Yellow Eyes Is Back" what did you think of Brent Spiner BK? I heard from my friend wot used to do the conventions that he could be difficult to work with
-
Did I miss a new "Smallville" last night? Time totally got away from me.
While the new CSI was airing, I was totally on the phone and not able to follow the story.
No, it was the rerun where Martha was dying.
-
George - To add to the confusion over time travel musicals, Variety reported the other day that the film SOMEWHERE IN TIME will soon be a musical as well.
It all started with A Connecticut Yankee.
(http://images.rottentomatoes.com/images/movie/coverv/25/105725.jpg)
-
But could it be staged today? It's about as un-PC as one could imagine. Just like the poor late lamented "Rape" from The Fantasticks.
Well, it is based on Henry Fielding's RAPE UPON RAPE! I saw THE FANTASTICKS many times up to its closing, and the "Rape Song" was always in it.
-
I watched, last night, my tape of Wednesday's episode of "Invasion"....GREAT STUFF!
This show really moves in unexpected directions and has unsettling diversions that remind me of the best elements of "The X-Files" while being completely different from that show.
I loved it, too, and the plot has really been picking up steam. I read comments earlier in the season where people complained that the show was too slow moving, but I never thought that, and now, it's really going strong.
As I mentioned, I think the finale is coming up soon.
-
I thought CSI was a repeat last night for some reason so I didn't watch it.... Vixdad tells me I missed a good one. DRAT!
Oh well it will show up in Spike eventually.
And Spike is...??...your "CSI"-episode-on-DVD-eating dog?
-
Well, it is based on Henry Fielding's RAPE UPON RAPE! I saw THE FANTASTICKS many times up to its closing, and the "Rape Song" was always in it.
It's crippled without it.
-
I didn't get as much watched this afternoon as I wanted due to telephone calls either. And I have call waiting, so I was having calls on top of calls. Irritating!
-
I did watch FUNNY FACE. This is the first time I've seen it on my larger screen TV, and it is such a beautifully designed movie. Looked very, very good.
-
Once again....
I could eat a cookie!
-
I also watched the short documentary on the disc - PARAMOUNT IN THE 50s. The feature hits a few of the highlights that Paramount had during the decade beginning with SUNSET BOULEVARD, but, of course, a really thorough documentary on such a topic would be of epic length. Paramount had a super decade in the 1950s with so many highlights.
-
Since I had limited time, I plucked the CSI Season 3 boxed set off te shelf and played the very first episode of it. Hadn't seen this in awhile, and it was great to see such wonderful guests stars in the show: Cliff DeYoung, Ian Summerhalder, J.P. Pitoc, among others in this episode.
This one had a running commentary with it, so after I finished the show, I started playing it again listening to the writer and director of the episode talking about it. Only got about 10 minutes in, and the phone rang effectively ending my afternoon of viewing.
-
And Spike is...??...your "CSI"-episode-on-DVD-eating dog?
Spike TV its a cable channel that shows two or three CSI rereun episodes everyday... I thought it was a nationwide station like AMC but I may have been mistaken!
-
Once again....
I could eat a cookie!
Then you should have orderd some from a Girl Scout!
-
My friend who's visiting had already told me he'd like to see the SORDID LIVES DVD tonight. His theater alliance recently did the stage version of the show, and he wants to see how the film compares.
DR Jennifer: I joined the IdolonFox Message Board yesterday and spent some time early last night reading what folks were saying. As it turned out, it's "real time" and I found out who was ejected three hours earlier than the show aired here.
Most of the threads were moaning and groaning about Gedeon being evicted,.
That said, one thread asked folks to rank the Top12 based on how they currently feel about them.
To my surprise, Elliot was in the top 5 of most of them, along with Mandisa, Chris, Katherine and Kellie. On several Kellie was replaced by Taylor. Taylor topped a couple of lists.
I know it's not an accurate barometer, but it's at least an indication of what some fans are currently thinking.
A lot of last night's rage was directed at Kevin who stayed in place of Gedeon. Few, if any, thought Will's ouster was unfair.
-
It's crippled without it.
Has it been removed from the score for new productions?
-
It is a national cable channel, but it's changed names a couple of times, and DR Ron may either not have known about the last name change or his cable system may not subscribe to it.
-
Has it been removed from the score for new productions?
From what I've read here in the past, I believe it has been.
Larry could tell us definitively.
-
Sweetie! I know what Spike TV is.
My comment was directed at your phrase that the missed episode will show up "in" Spike eventually....as if Spike were some creature that ate it...and that it might "turn up" later.
Are you still achy??? :P
I have gotten much more enjoyment from both Gedeon and Will than Kevin. I understand his appeal, but I think the others have better voices and had more personality, too.
-
Well, it is based on Henry Fielding's RAPE UPON RAPE! I saw THE FANTASTICKS many times up to its closing, and the "Rape Song" was always in it.
Well yes, THE Fantasticks. But I understood that for non-Sullivan-Steet-Theatre theatres they had written a replacement song that was not so shocking to virgin ears (!!).
And speaking of the movie of Lock Up Your Daughters, I recall that the script actually combined elements of LUYD and Virtue in Danger. Or was that a different movie? I seem to recall Christopher Plummer as a real über-fop.
And that said, I cannot help but run to the imdb:
Cast overview, first billed only:
Christopher Plummer .... Lord Foppington
Susannah York .... Hilaret
Glynis Johns .... Mrs. Squeezum
Ian Bannen .... Ramble
Tom Bell .... Shaftoe
Elaine Taylor .... Cloris
Jim Dale .... Lusty
Kathleen Harrison .... Lady Clumsey
Roy Kinnear .... Sir Tunbelly Clumsey
Georgia Brown .... Nell
Vanessa Howard .... Hoyden
Roy Dotrice .... Gossip
Fenella Fielding .... Lady Eager
Paul Dawkins .... Lord Eager
Peter Bayliss .... Mr. Justice Squeezum
Well, I recall seeing it in 1969 when it came out. But I don't recall Bart's stage score being in it. Am I confused?
Anyway, I must leave work, so your reply will fall on deaf ears to be archived and read at a later time.
-
DR Ron gets Spike TV.
DR Ron has watched many an episode of "CSI" on Spike TV.
DR Ron was just having his fun with DR vixmom!
(insert a "Janice" -- aka Maggie Wheeler -- laugh here!!!)
:D :D :D :D ;D ;D ;D :D :D :D :D ;D ;D :D :D ;D :D :D ;D
Gene Kelly giving his usual self satisfied, smug, charmless performance. >:(
Watch it JRand55, that is my make-believe husband you are talking about there!
-
I just read that Fox's hit series HOUSE was renewed for a third season today. That really isn't much of a surprise, of course, since it is Fox's highest rated scripted series and second only to AMERICAN IDOL in popularity on the network.
-
Stopped at Borders on my way home...picked up a dvd of THE SHAGGY DOG...wow, it has commentary by Kevin Corcoran, Roberta Shore, Tim Considine, and Tommy Kirk! That should be a lot of fun to listen to!
And at Ross' Dress for Less I bought some new shirts in case I happen to go on vacation this summer and I got season one of ELLEN for, get this...only $5.99!!! The whole season 1!
I hope I like that show as much as I remembered liking that show! LOL!
-
From what I've read here in the past, I believe it has been.
Larry could tell us definitively.
Nope, I couldn't. DR Jason could since MTI represents the show. The "Rape song" is still in the vocal score, but they may send with the rentals now a copy of "Abductions." Beats me. I think the whole nonsense over the word gets ridiculous. Are we going to remove "The Rape of the Lock" from the poetry of Alexander Pope? The song is clearly set up as a song about abduction. Of course, I'm so un-PC, I like "When Does the Ravishing Begin?"
-
No, the score was cut, and yes, they did use Vanbrugh's THE RELAPSE, which is what VIRTUE IN DANGER was based on. I notice the gay character of Coupler was cut from the film. I've always loved the name Hoyden Tunbelly.
-
What have I been doing, you might ask? Well, I heard from my muse Margaret this morning. She absolutely LOVED two of the three short stories, but had a few problems with the third. It was fascinating listening to what was bothering her, and I made some notes while we spoke. I never commit one way or the other without going back and reading what's being criticized - she really liked the story itself, but didn't think it should be written in the first person, and didn't love the leading character because of his profession.
I went back and read the story for the first time in ages, and after two pages I knew her response was right on the money - saw it instantly. So, for the last three hours I've been rewriting it. I changed the character's occupation and it's much better now, and I'm putting it in the third person. I had to readjust quite a few things in the first four pages of the story, but once past those, then everything basically stays the same save for some minor changes and just making it third person. We'll see how she likes the revamp, but I suspect it will work for her now.
-
Hoyden Tunbelly and Lord Foppington!
We don't get character names like that anymore.
Although I bet we here at HHW could come up with some nice ones.
I will start with two characters from my play on New York City night life:
Bradley Adcock & Genevieve Goldfarb
-
How's the PDF coming?
-
Tonight we are having an activity called "Pie and Games." So I am baking pies. Apple just came out of the oven, a graham cracker crust is baking, and a cherry is about to go in.
I didn't know that BK executive prodiuced "Old Yellow Eyes Is Back" what did you think of Brent Spiner BK? I heard from my friend wot used to do the conventions that he could be difficult to work with
I have not heard that cd. I have seen him in a couple of telemovies since TNG.
-
I ordered THE SHAGGY DOG disc as well DRBARNUM. It has the original theatrical version in b/w and correct aspect on one side and the shorter colorized TV version on the other side.
Released in 1959, it was the first movie for Annette Funicello, who played a character named Allison! Not sure whether Walt got the name from our Miss Hayes or from Peyton Place.... But then Grace Metalious may have culled her name from our Allison first....
BTW Sandra Bullock has signed on the play Grace in a movie about her life. Can a Broadway musical on the subject be far behind?
-
DR GINNY I am sending you the best JOB vibes I have. I understand your situation - state government is a labyrinth of rules and forms that cause problems for the people trying to do their best.
And it DOESN'T matter what happens as long as the PAPERWORK is correct.
-
Did it rain yet, DRLAURA?
Flood warnings are up for us, with more rain to follow Sat/Sun/Mon.
I read a bio of Grace. She was a mess.
Just checked EBAY....that CD goes for around $30 and MORE! :o
Going to a Celtic Festival tomorrow... I am hoping there is NOT a repeat of last years incident for one poor piper....
That is more than what I paid for my Japanese Released cd of the Chieftains in China.
Brent Spiner was always very nice to me. Don't know enough about him to know whether he was or is difficult.
That was going to be my next question, so thanks for answering it in advance. I might spring for this one myself. I've been so disappointed that so many of the Disney movies from the 60s have been full frame on DVD.
Poor DR Ron Pulliam will be weeping into his pillow tonight, but NBC has pulled JOEY from its Tuesday night slot for the foreseeable future and replaced it with TV's MOST OUTRAGEOUS MOMENTS.
Last week's JOEY drew only 4 million viewers, an all-time low for the show and for that timeslot on the network. We may have seen the last of the LA version of Joey Tibbiani.
Sympathy vibes to DR Ron
TOTD:
DVD: Last night's viewing started off badly.
We tried "A Village Romeo & Juliet" Opera. Despite the glorious voice of Sir Thomas Hampson we could not cope!
We then went to "All Dogs Go To Heaven 2". Couldn't stay with that either.
We settled for watching Bryn and Renée.
Last movie watched was "Wallace & Gromit - The Curse Of the Were-Rabbit"
- fun extras - "Cracking contraptions"
CD: The Best OF Human Nature.
-
Did it rain yet, DRLAURA?
Flood warnings are up for us, with more rain to follow Sat/Sun/Mon.
No rain yet. LOTS of wind. They say the rain will come tomorrow. Of course, we have outdoor plans tomorrow.
Heading down now to do a few chores and wait for my company to arrive.
WBBL.
Ain't it the truth....THIRD MAN ON THE MOUNTAIN is a disgraceful release!
As for JOEY - I thought I read it was a pay/play deal for LeBlanc so that it would cost MORE for the network to NOT produce the show another season. But I may have dreamed that. ;D
-
I get a kick out of Wallace and Gromit also...
Oh dear, a 15 year old boy at a High School in my county died today. As he was leaving the cafeteria with a cheeseburger, a teacher told him he couldn't take the food with him, so he put the whole thing in his mouth at once and suffocated....despite the efforts of teachers to dislodge food.
.........
I ordered THE SHAGGY DOG disc as well DRBARNUM.
You mean... DRBARNUM can be bought!!! :o
As I said yesterday; never knew this man was so venal! ;)
CD: The Best OF Human Nature.
Does it sing about... me??!! ;D 8)
Speaking of Grace, and someone was, one of my fave silly Johnny Carson jokes was about the starlet who wanted to audition for the part of Grace in THE SAILOR WHO FELL FROM GRACE.
-
Boy, I sure clear off the place when I walk into the room!
I guess I'm using BK's perfum! (see yesterday's posts!) LOL!
-
Okay, the new CDs are "live" and ready for preorders at www.kritzerland.com
Check it out, listen to song samples, and above all be the first to order!
Hmmm... I'm sure she was a blond, right?!
AND the sailor could not sing to her "You're The Top!"
Obviously! ??? ;)
Found a copy of the BK Executive produced Bay Cities released cd of Brent Spiner "Ol' Yellow Eyes Is Back", but the French pressing by Milan... this very evening!
I mean... I found it this very evening!
Otherwise, I've been listening to GYPSY again, the original, and it still sounds the best!
AARRGGHH!! I used to have this CD and now I can't find it. :( I have a "Missing In Action" list on my computer at home and this is on the top of it. The original cast recording of A New Brain is another CD that I know I owned, but I haven't been able to find...yet. I really haven't searched through all of my boxes to look, so they both may be somewhere. ;)
Good Afternoon!
Greeting from Richmond!
-Yes, Richmond.
When I stepped outside a couple of hours ago, I realized I needed to get out Dodge - well, at least Fairfax - for a while, so I got into my car and headed on down 95. The rush hour traffic hadn't kicked in fully yet, so it was a rather nice trip down, and the glorious weather made it even nicer. It was soooo nice rolling all the windows down and feeling the air rush by, through.
So, I'm at Steve's right now, and he's about to make dinner - Rib-Eyes! And I'm just catching up on the posts and such. So...
-
:o
It's one thing to see the job you're already doing (quite well, by all accounts) advertised internally in the Staff Newsletter. It's another thing all together to see it posted in the Job Openings portion of the website of a state-wide professional organization.
Can you spell P-A-R-A-N-O-I-D?
I am consuming massive amounts of chocolate.
Well, if all that chocolate is of the Dark variety, then at least you're getting healthier!
;D
DR Jose, would you like to make a trip to the Library of Congress tomorrow?
Are you coming down? Or do you need someone to look up something?
I was planning on heading back up to NYC tomorrow, but had not set any timeline. -But I'll probably head back after dark when it's cooler. So...
I'll check in with you via phone after dinner.
-
DR WFO - I think the confusion among TIME AND AGAIN, TIME AFTER TIME and SOMEWHERE IN TIME tends to be only because of the presence of that word in the various titles. Although someone did once introduce Skip as having written a musical version of BACK TO THE FUTURE, but that's kind of unusual.
(Trivia note: An Encores presentation of CONNECTICUT YANKEE was playing upstairs at City Center at the same time that TIME AND AGAIN was playing downstairs at the very same City Center. Both shows even had the same director and choreographer. It was talked about a lot at the time, for better or worse.)
I don't know if I'm the first, but I placed my orders!
BK, I asked this in the "Message to the Seller" box in Paypal, but I'll ask here, too: Will Kevin be able to sign some CDs??
-
You mean... DRBARNUM can be bought!!! :o
As I said yesterday; never knew this man was so venal! ;)
Well, he is trying to pay for a new furnace and several trips! Not to mention those $1.00 DVDs at the local Piggly Wiggly.
Oh... And I came across a casting notice in The Washington Post today for a new production of The Civil War - but it's no longer called that - that will be mounted this summer at historic Gettysburg.
"Hey! My Dad's got a battlefield! Let's put on a show!"
:P
I need to have some 1903 dance orchestra parts copied for BABES IN TOYLAND Lancers and Waltzes. I'm onto a new obsession with the show! I can always ask Betty next week to do it, but since you're in the area and you got a fantastic acknowledgement in my notes, I thought perhaps. . .
OK... I smell some rib-eye steaks cooking away...
Laters...
I thought "Joey" was DOA when I saw the very first episode.
I think Joey TREBBIANI is done...except for fabulous "Friends" reruns!
DR Ron Pulliam - Did you have your cookie yet?
I couldn't find a cookie.
So...I've settled on a Snickers w/almonds bar. King Size.
And I'm not sharing.
I've decided to be a p-i-g pig and eat the whole thing.
Oink.
I hope nobody will be upset by my posting here those few testimonies in honor of a decent human being; if someone does not approve, I'll delete them! Thank you.
Senator Tom Harkin
"It is with great sadness that I learned of the death of my friend Dana Reeve. Over the years, I came to know both Dana and Christopher Reeve. I admired them for their courage in the face of adversity, and their determination to make the world a better place. Americans learned a lot from the Reeve family. Christopher gave us a lesson in how to face hardship; Dana gave us a lesson in love and loyalty.
"Dana and Christopher Reeve expanded access to new treatments and therapies for thousands of paralyzed Americans, and became tireless advocates for medical research. Of course, they wanted a cure for Chris. But they fought for a cure for others as well
"After his death, Chris's work continued full speed ahead because of Dana's drive and determination. And now, Dana's work must continue full speed ahead because of our commitment and determination.
"Ruth and I extend our heartfelt condolences to Dana's son Will, her stepchildren Matthew and Alexandra and the entire Reeve and Morosini families."
Senator John Kerry
"Teresa and I loved them both, and we are deeply saddened by Dana's passing. She was a steadfast partner to her husband, a loving mother, a talented artist, and an amazing caregiver who showed incredible grace fighting for her husband and then for her own life."
Robin Williams
Robin Williams
"The brightest light has gone out. We will forever celebrate her loving spirit."
John Lithgow
"Dana endured terrible things, but never did I hear her speak a self-pitying word. She was a woman with genius for compassion. She gave strength not just to Chris, but to everyone who knew them both. Her death is devastating."
Catherine Zeta-Jones
"I was honored to know Dana and am deeply saddened by her passing. She was an inspirational woman who showed great courage and grace throughout her life.
My thoughts and prayers are with her family. I hope they will take comfort in knowing what a positive difference she made for so many lives on this earth. I loved her and she will be greatly missed."
Michael Douglas
"Catherine and I are devastated by all the losses, but we do find such inspiration in how she conducted her life."
Susan Sarandon
"Dana Reeve had a fierce grace. Under pressure, she embraced her personal struggles with dignity and humor. And always with the focus on the greater good. She filled her life with a love as clear and unflinching as her beautiful voice. Dana made the world a better place and we all shall miss her song terribly."
Mark Messier
Mark Messier
"On behalf of my entire family and the New York Rangers organization I am deeply saddened by the news of the loss of Dana Reeve. Her courage and determination to continue to champion the efforts of her late husband Christopher as well as her optimistic and positive outlook in the face of adversity will continue to provide inspiration to us all. I would also like to express our deepest sympathy to Dana's son Will and the entire Reeve family."
Jane Seymour
"She showed us all the true power of love. (She was) an unflinching optimist, who never let anything get her down, and if she did she never showed us."
Good morning all. No, Jed and I have not fallen off the face of the earth, we're just busy moving these days. The process has been a slow one thus far, but should pick up speed dramatically when we get his grandfather's truck this weekend to move the big stuff. The weatherman seems to be giving us a one day window, Sunday, between storms, and that is when we intend to get the bulk of the furniture moving done.
Meanwhile, I've got the bug that seems to be going around (I blame Jose) and it has made itself at home in my throat. My speaking voice is pathetic, nearly gone yesterday. This makes trying to control a room full of two year olds really difficult...
No one said you had to try and control us, Ann!
-
Thank you for that DR François.
-
Even the orchestra is beautiful!
That's it! Paris is getting its version of CABERNET (Come taste the wine!) this October, the Sam Mendès version, all in French!
It's promoted "Cabaret, LIVE" since so many musical productions lately have used "canned" music!
Je suis votre compère!
http://www.cabaret-lemusical.fr/
Auditions are open!
-
Thank you for that DR François.
Thank you!
-
Was it Jed's grandfather's truck that met you up close and personal TCB?
"Jed's grandfather's truck was too large for your health".
I know there's a song there!
-
I hope they keep that lovely song about "Ananas" DR François.
BK, the webmaster for Kritzerland made a few (but minor) mistakes. When you go to "www.kritzerland.com (http://www.kritzerland.com/)," you see links for the current releases of "The Last Starfighter," the Kevin Spirtas CD-single, your CD "Stages/Together Again" and "Harvey Schmidt Plays Schmidt and Jones." When you click on the "Upcoming Releases (http://www.kritzerland.com/upcomingreleases.html)" button, you go to the page, but nothing is listed! When you click on the actual "Home" button (http://www.kritzerland.com/home.html (http://www.kritzerland.com/home.html)), THAT'S where you see the links for "Strouse, Schwartz & Schwartz" and Kevin Spirtas' "Night and Days" cabaret CD (plus "The Last Starfighter" again).
And most of the links to Kevin's samples within the song titles are on the wrong titles, and bring up the wrong songs:
"Night and Day" is the only one that's correct.
Clicking on the title "Singing In the Rain" gives you "Sometimes a Day Goes By"
Clicking on "Blue Skies" gets you "Les Days (Of Our Lives)"...which is pretty darned funny!
"Oklahoma" gets you "If Ever I Would Leave You"
"The Phantom of the Opera" brings up "I Am Not the Boy Next Door"
"Music of the Night" has "Once Before I Go"
All of the songs are there, just in the wrong places. The good news is that when you click on any of the "broadband" or "dial-up" links, those are all correct.
DR elmore - I think I'm going to pass on a trip to the LoC tomorrow. I have a couple of boxes I need to go through before heading back up tomorrow, so... But if I change my mind, I'll give you a call.
No problem at all, DR Jose!
Dinner was very good; rib eye steaks, green beans and bacon-chive mashed potatoes. All very yummy. And for dessert, Breyer's Butter Pecan with Chocolate Sauce. Yummy too.
After eating, we headed up to the roof deck to look at the city for a while. It is so strange being up there at this time of the year and having the temps be so warm. *And, actually, it was a little strange driving down today in the warm weather and seeing all the trees with no leaves. In any case...
I'll probably head back up Fairfax around 9:00. So, until I'm back in Fairfax...
Laters...
DR elmore - And Steve say HI right backatcha!
-
Man!
That "Snickers" bar was GOOD!
Oink.
I like Hersheys special dark....
I hope they keep that lovely song about "Ananas" DR François.
Hmmm... you know... even in France some people are not too crazy about fruits you know, mainly fruits for two!! ;)
Thank G..d, we don't call them (la) PINE apples!! (See yesterday prunes, errr, puns!) ;)
-
I hope nobody will be upset by my posting here those few testimonies in honor of a decent human being; if someone does not approve, I'll delete them! Thank you.
Not at all. They both were truly remarkable individuals.
-
Well, it is based on Henry Fielding's RAPE UPON RAPE! I saw THE FANTASTICKS many times up to its closing, and the "Rape Song" was always in it.
The song is actually called IT DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU PAY, isn't it? And then there is the RAPE BALLET.
-
DR elmore - And Steve say HI right backatcha!
Gee, he did not say anything for me???
So cheap! :P ;)
DR MBarnum's favourite song!!!
It Depends On What You Pay! Ah! ;)
I shall now be on my way to the Luckman Theater for the STAGE benefit. These shows tend to run long, so the notes may be late in going up.
I've forwarded the info re kritzerland.com to the web designer.
Now and Forever
Words and Music by Carole King
Performed by Dana Reeve on January 12, 2006 for former New York Rangers captain Mark Messier during a pregame ceremony to retire Messier's No. 11
Now and Forever
You were a part of me
And the memory cuts like a knife
Didn't we find the ecstasy
Didn't we share the daylight
When you walked into my life
Now and forever I will remember
All the promises still unbroken
And think about all the words between us
The never needed to be spoken
We had a moment
Just one moment
That will last beyong a dream, beyond a lifetime
We are the lucky ones
Some people never get to do
All we got to do
Now and forever
I will always think of you
Didn't we come together
Didn't we live together
Didn't we cry together
Didn't we play together
Didn't we love together
And together we lit up the world
I miss the tears
I miss the laughter
I miss the day we met and all that followed after
Sometimes I wish I could always be with you
The way we used to do
Now and forever
I will always think of you
Now and forever
I will always be with you
Remembering Dana Reeve
NEW YORK, March 7, 2006
Dana Reeve died of lung cancer even though she did not smoke. (AP)
(CBS) This column was written by CBS News Early Show co-anchor Harry Smith.
The word that may best describe Dana Reeve is courageous.
Her husband was Superman, but maybe it was Dana Reeve we really believed was the superhero.
"She was a guide in terms of how we should lift our spirits in the face of adversity, how, no matter what we're faced with, we can overcome it, even death," says Dana Reeve's friend, entertainer Mandy Patinkin.
I never saw the two of them together that I didn't marvel at her grace, her strength, her love for him, and her determination to find a cure for spinal cord injuries.
It would have been enough for her to stand by her man. We would have been satisfied with that.
But Dana Reeve wasn’t satisfied with a medical community that said spinal cord injuries are hopeless. She took her dazzling smile and steely determination to Washington, where she cajoled, charmed and convinced stingy lawmakers to make money available for research.
"She really was a profound leader," Patinkin observes, "in terms of, 'What do you do in the face of adversity? You behave the way I beahve.' The way Dana Reeve behaves. That's how you behave. You make the most out of every second."
Did we sometimes wonder if hers and Chris’s cause was a lost one? Probably.
Yet, there was the evidence. Remember the video? Thousands of hours of excruciating rehabilitation resulted in Chris regaining feeling in parts of his body. He could literally feel with his own flesh what he’d known in his heart since his terrible accident — that Dana was with him.
"It's certainly a day of sadness," Patinkin reflects, "but it's also a day of remembrance of a kind of love abnd inspiration that is rare and unique. And I deeply believe that it's possible that these two lights of love couldn't be without each other."
First Chris, and now Dana is gone, too. And it breaks our hearts.
DR George, I've been looking for you all over the Park, forgetting that we're Friday and not Sunday!
Silly me!
-
François, I wish I were at a park. I'm still at work...but not for long. It's the start of the weekend, but I'll probably come into work tomorrow (Saturday) to make up a few hours so that I don't use my vacation time.
-
I had my car detailed today! For several years, I've been saying that I want to get it super-cleaned with some of my income tax refund money, and for the first time, I was able to! It's absolutely spiffy clean! And almost has that new-car smell, but it's still fairly wet. :P It will eventually dry, so I can live with that. I also bought some new, genuine sheepskin car-seat covers and will be able to drive my spiffy clean car on super-soft comfy car-seats. I'm happy about that. ;D
I'm not better off than you are -- even though we're "lucky" to have a job! -- because I'm also at work and it's 3:40 am here right now!
Don't you feel much better to know all of that?
Btw, I've paid 3 euros and 80 cents for the Brent Spiner cd!
i'm so cheap! :)
-
Sweetie! I know what Spike TV is.
My comment was directed at your phrase that the missed episode will show up "in" Spike eventually....as if Spike were some creature that ate it...and that it might "turn up" later.
Are you still achy??? :P
darn my typing skills (lack of)! I meant "on" of course!!
Yeah, still a little achy despite the tylenol... perhaps throwing myself down the stairs was a mistake
-
In the "it's about time" department...FAMILY AFFAIR season 1 will be released on DVD in June!
A Snickers bar sounds SO good.
During my errands this afternoon, I did stop by a local drug store and buy some M&Ms on sale (peanut only) and also some jelly beans for a quick snack.
-
DR George, if you can't put your hands on your copy of A NEW BRAIN, I can certainly find you one. :)
Cillaliz, I hope you dug out Mrs. Beasly!
THE WILD WILD WEST is coming out June 6th. This makes me and best friend John very happy indeed. For me, Robert Conrad in tight pants. Sheer heaven!
-
Had a grand dinner with dear friends Gregg and John. I had lasagna and garlic bread, and I ate every crumb. Haven't had either in a long, long time, and I really loved it.
-
John wasn't in a mood to see a complete movie, so we settled instead for excerpts from three musical films.
First up was DAMN YANKEES where we watched "A Little Brains, a Little Talent," "Who's Got the Pain," Shoeless Joe," "Those Were the Good Old Days," and "Two Lost Souls."
I had forgotten that Tab Hunter actually does some dancing in that number. My memory is that he played "chair bongos" while everyone else danced, but he didn't actually get out there and do some steps. Good for him!
-
Next we put in CAROUSEL where we watched "June Is Bustin' Out All Over," "This Was a Real Nice Clambake," "Stonecutters Cut It on Stone," and both versions of "You'll Never Walk Alone."
"Blow High, Blow Low" is on the soundtrack album, but the number has never been seen to my knowledge. Does anyone know if it was filmed and cut or was it never filmed? Is there a chance we might see the footage in the new CAROUSEL DVD release later this year?
-
And we ended the evening with GREASE. From it we watched "Summer Nights," "Sandy," "You're the One That I Want," and "We Go Together."
-
Good Evening!
Greetings from Fairfax! -Again!
Piece of cake drive back up 95, and, boy, is it still warm outside. I believe the last weather report I heard in the car said it was still 68 degrees outside!
I don't mind the unseasonable temps, but I also don't mind snow either, so...
::)
-
And since there happened to be a batch of chocolate-chip cookie dough in the fridge... The first dozen should be done in about 10 minutes!
:)
-
DR Ron Pulliam - I know you had a Snickers bar earlier, but would you still like a cookie? Chocolate chip?
;)
-
Hmm... I'm actually due for a baking spree... Hmm... So, if you missed out on the Girl Scout cookies...
:)
-
I still keep promising myself some cupcakes (or a cake), but I've resisted for the last couple of months. The last time I did cupcakes, I ate all but two of them.
-
I cant eat snickers bars... I had a very bad experience taht cannot be discussed on the boards... I am not allergic to anything to peanuts or anything...
I do love MnM's especially the regular ones. I also liked the dark chocolate ones when they were out. They were good.
-
DR George, if you can't put your hands on your copy of A NEW BRAIN, I can certainly find you one. :)
I am looking for a copy of Cheyenne autumn...
-
Tomorrow, I'll be sitting down to do my taxes. I've been having them done for the last 20+ years, but after the hefty fee I had to pay to have them done last year, I am determined to give them a go myself this year. Since I've retired, they're considerably simpler than they used to be, and several friends who have similar investments have said I shouldn't have any trouble. I've got everything laid out and tomorrow's the day I'm going to make a start (and hopefully a finish).
-
As a reward, I'll have ice cream (which I deliberately did not have today, my usual day for eating ice cream). I'll also have some of the candy I bought today for a reward if things work out OK.
What's more, I have three wonderful dramas from tonight stored up on the DVR for watching, too.
-
This afternoon, I did watch THE MERCHANT OF VENICE on the DVR. Al Pacino's accent didn't jibe very well with the British accents on the rest of the company. Don't know why that bothered me since I love the Brando JULIUS CAESAR which has a mix of British and American players.
-
I also started watching MRS. PARKER AND THE VICIOUS CIRCLE. I saw it years ago when it first came out and never since. Lots of these people are more familiar faces to me now than they were when I first saw them, so I'm enjoying it more than I did the first time around.
-
I am looking for a copy of Cheyenne autumn...
The score to the movie or the movie itself. Or is there some other version by this title of which I'm unaware?
-
Oh, my, I must be off to bed. I need a clear head tomorrow as I start punching in these tax numbers.
Good night!
-
Hmm...
COOKIES!!!
WARM COOKIES!!!!!
WARM CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES!!!!!!
:D
I have mixed feelings about Pacino in that role. I do agree he did a decent job.
I thought Brando did well in that role.
Sometimes I think it is a presence they present in the character. Some can pull it off and others cannot.
-
The movie... I would like to watch it for my paper.
"Pie and Games" was a great success. There were many pies; and we laughed and laughed over the games.
-
No rain yet.
-
Well... Lots to do before heading back up to NYC tomorrow night, so...
Goodnight.
-
DR George, if you can't put your hands on your copy of A NEW BRAIN, I can certainly find you one. :)
Thanks. I'll keep that in mind. I do want to get off my butt and actually go through the many, many, many (that's three manys!) boxes that I have in my extra bedroom. I've been saying this for years...YEARS! I say...but I have a lot of crap that I just need to get rid of. ;)
-
I am looking for a copy of Cheyenne autumn...
I wouldn't mind Cheyenne Jackson (http://www.freakymartian.com/cheyenne/)! ;)
