Well, you've read the notes, the notes had sentences and paragraphs, not necessarily in that order, and now it is time for you to post until the Bollywood cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: ARCHON!
-
Welcome five GUESTS. That's a lot of GUESTS these days.
-
I can't think of a single sparkly thing to say at the moment.
-
bk, I'm assuming your licensing agreements are what are limiting the size of your runs on the latest Kritzerland releases? It seems a shame that you can't press more copies, since they seem to be selling out so quickly.
-
Three people in The Living Room....time to par-tay!! :)
-
Hmmmm.....
The HHW "PM" system seems to be on the fritz at the moment. :(
-
bk, I'm assuming your licensing agreements are what are limiting the size of your runs on the latest Kritzerland releases? It seems a shame that you can't press more copies, since they seem to be selling out so quickly.
BK wrote in his notes:
Most of the run was ordered by online dealers and I didn’t have that many left to sell.
Maybe he's selling too many to the dealers and should keep more to sell himself.
BK, do you have a limit of how many you'll sell to dealers? Or would you not care if the dealers buy all the copies?
-
It's not that simple, unfortunately. While these do sell out quickly, if I were to press more then I wouldn't sell what I do sell because then people just wait. Also, with the exception of Evening Primrose, none of the limited editions has ever sold more than two hundred copies through Kritzerland. So, I'm grateful for the dealers, even though I make lots less on those sales. I did up the number to 1200 on this one and it looks like it's going to sell so that's something to know for the future. But it really only works for certain composers, which is why I'm still sitting on 200 Une Chambre En Villes.
-
Well, last night we had a great show. Over half the house was filled and they were a great audience. :D
-
We had a meeting after the show to discuss the remaining two performances and how the weather might affect them. We are expecting to do the show tonight (Saturday) UNLESS we get a call saying that the weather is too bad and we have to cancel. If that happens, we'll more than likely have to cancel Sunday's performance, as well. And if that happens, then we'll have to strike the set next weekend. We were supposed to strike the set after Sunday's matinée.
:-\

There's supposed to be a real bad wind/snow storm in western Washington tomorrow night. It could dump a LOT of snow.
-
Right now, it's 23°F at the Olympia airport, which is just a mile from where I live.

I am awake, barely, so I am definitely not sparkling.
Off to work I go. . .
-
Had I posted when BK saw me last night, there would be a record of my having been up so very very late.

Saturday...a work day....oh well. Last weekend before Christmas.
-
Hmmmmmmmmmm.....TOD:
MAMMA MIA
MILK
ALL MY SONS
And seven others on DVD ....
-
DR DRUXY interviewed Bernard Woolner? Wow!
Now if it had been Harry Pennypacker, I bet it would have been revealed that in fact Allison Hayes was 50 feet tall in real life and that the scenes of her with regular size people were the process and special effect shots.
-
I hope the train to Christmasvillage starts running today....I am sure there are many shoppers who need to get somewhere.
DtM - get that bulb!

yesterday Dan (the man ) siad
"Frustration grew in Christmasvillagetown tonight as the train service to the Nativity scene is still down, impacting travel on this busy holiday weekend. Adding to their annoyances, many Christmasvillagetown residents tried using their Matchbox and Hot Wheel cars and trucks to make the trip to the Nativity Scene, only to discover that their vehicles do not have engines and cannot move on their own power. Residents have been assured that rail service will resume as soon as a light bulb can be obtained from Lloyd's Train and Hobby Shop."
This made me laugh out loud!! Thank you for a much needed laugh!!!

Good morning, DR VIXMOM!
I am off to work. Oh well.
-
I can't think of a single sparkly thing to say at the moment.
I'm completely overwhelmed.
-
Saturday morning greetings! Today is the first day of the rest of my life - or something like that.
My day includes figuring out who's going to eat what when next Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday and doing the big grocery shopping. Fortunately, I don't have to cook dinner tonight, because DR Elmore is coming over and has requested Shaddock's pizza.
-
Good morning, DR VIXMOM!
I am off to work. Oh well.
Have a lovely day!!!!
-
Rant of the Day:
Nancy Grace -- take a $%#@^&$ breath!
Illinois Governor Begojovich (sp?): The coffee is burning on the stove. Can't you smell it YET?
Fox News: Obama WON! DEAL WITH IT!

And YOU have a lovely day, too!

Who let that umemployed bum in here,
why Ginny....how are you enjoying retirement?
(I have been taking a mail away course in humor - it's taught by an assistant manager from some library in Ohio....)
-
It looks and smells like rain here in Johnston SC.
Lunch today will be over to the P.K. -- local eatery run by my mom's across-the-street neighbor and longtime friend Carole. Hamburgers and french fries are the house specialty.
-
I think that sometime in January you should put on your oldest clothes, mess up your hair, and shuffle around the library occasionally asking the help desk desk inane questions

Dans-s-s-s-s-s-e, fools, dans-s-s-s-s-s-e...

Sounds yummy!!! We're having a light sprinkling of snow at the moment - the streets are empty and everything looks white and pretty and peaceful.....
-
Last night's "Ghost Whisperer" -- intriguing. But is Melinda courting more heartache?
-
I keep getting little notices from favorite vendors that things have shipped. I'm gonna need to rent a U-Haul to pick up my mail when I return to Oakland.

WOD:
"Archon" is the term the manager uses each morning when he alerts his employees that their branch of McDonald's is about to open the door for the new business day.
At closing, the word is "Archoff"!
-
Note to the forum pedants: Yes, I know how the word is pronounced. I was just having "fun" with the visual.
-
DR vixmom: I saw that. It didn't work for me, either, so I'm guessing you need to tweak it or something.

Madison Avenue has warped us in immeasurable ways.

Well, just cut that out right now! ;)

I watched Charlie Wilson's War on HBO on demand this morning - I wonder what would have happened if he got his way in the end? (I don't think that's a spoiler)

sounds lovely -- I am happy to report I can still (barely ) taste chocolate -
I think I must do research on taste buds anbd how they work. Why can I not taste tea or coffee, but I can taste hot chocolate (although I used a large quantity of cocoa and had only a hint of flavor). Why does butter have no taste but cream cheese does? Roast Chicken, gravy, hamburgers, sweet potatoes are all completely without flavor but I can taste ketchup and pickles

I also enjoyed reading this. I think it's so cool that someone else not only knows what a garden is but has one! I have so many childhood memories of my Dad and I setting ours up.

Hello Danise!!! Your flowers are lovely!!! They arrived all in bud and this morning everyone of them was open--- thank you again for your thoughtful, thoughtful gesture
-
It must be affecting only part of your taste buds. I remember seeing a chart of the tongue and what taste buds tasted what but I don't have it handy or I would post it for you.

I guess that's more respectable than the other way 'round...

well Santa Clasu IS coming to town......

The smell is as good as the taste so maybe you should try some, DR Vixmom.

Hmmm, what, oh, you mean this isn't just an extended holiday vacation and I don't have to go back on January 2?

You should be teaching that course and he should be your special needs student.

BTW I got last nights PM 3X....

Well today is the day I'm going to the movies and dinner with my friend. He called again last night and we chatted for about 15 minutes.
I hope he isn't to shocked when he sees me. I've gained so much weight. I do plan on going on some kind of diet after the first of the year--with everything that has happened as of late, I just wasn't in the mood to stick to any kind of plan.
Now that I have all of the Weight Watchers books, I think I will go back on that.

LOL!! In the man's defense I believe I read that exact "sentiment" on a Hallmark retirement card - I believe it was one of the ones with the cranky old cartoon lady on it...

Good luck !! I strongly suggest joing a gym or exercise class - it made all the difference for me when I managed to lose all that weight earlier this year

I did want to let everyone know that those famous HHW vibes did the trick once again. Bill (Thelma's husband) is doing well and is expected to go home either on or by Sunday.
I want to go see him but I think I shall wait until he gets settled.
I told Thelma to tell me if there is anything I can do to help out. She said she was worried about not getting Christmas Gifts for some people (like they should really care about that) and I told her is she would just tell me who and give me some idea as to what they would like, I would do the shopping/wrapping for her.

I keep thinking about that song from Rocky Horror.
Michael Renny was there the day the earth stood still, but he told us where to stand.........
-
Hi DR Ginny! How does it feel to be free?!
Still sinking in...
-
Good morning, all! I've had no return phone call from Alan and Lilianne Freeman, but tonight I have a date with DR Ginny and Richard, Tuesday night dinner with my friend Loyce, and a TON of Babes In Toyland to edit. Last night I discovered that a triangle part in several computerized revisions of The Prologue has become a cymbal part, which is certainly not what Mr Herbert intended. Oy!
Randy and Jo went to a party last night and are hung over at the moment. I'm all caught up with banking, emails, and the Most Popular Site in the World aka HHW. The computer man did an amazing job on Jo's computer and it's running quite rapidly today. This morning I have, besides BABES, laundry, and a bit of gift wrapping. At some point my niece Corby is bringing Jayden, my great-nephew, over for Jo to watch while she and her husband do some home renovations and I look forward to seeing him.
I wonder if DR Jane will serve Mallomars at the wedding reception?
As for the TOD, what's run away with my mind?
-

He has a heart attack last week. They lost him twice but was able to use the paddles to bring him back. He had a pace maker put in yesterday.

DR Ginny, I was thinking this morning that we should have got tickets to see the Cincinnati Ballet's NUTCRACKER. I've never seen it and always wanted to, and since I know the conductor and BK recording artist Carmon DeLeone . . .

As for the TOD, what's run away with my mind?
A week in Ohio slows down the brain cells.
We're looking forward to seeing you at 6pm! Can you eat any desserts or have you had to swear off that kind of thing all together?

Well, we're available Monday and all next weekend...
Richard and I saw it 28 years ago when we took his nieces, ages 6 & 8. It was right before we were married and the lady behind us complimented us on how well -behaved our daughters were during the performance. I just said, "Oh, thank you."
I also saw it with my friend Becky in the 1970s and Carmen just cracked up when the pre-performance announcer said something about "Tonight's performance of The Nutcrasher..."

I know my doctor didn't order it but I bought a blood glucose tester to just give myself an idea as to where I am, diabetic speaking. He told me I was one or two points over the line but I didn't really understand what that meant.
I've tested myself a few times--the first time right after I ate (not knowing you don't do it then) and it was over 200. Since then it's been all over the place. I try to test when I first get up in the morning and at night before I go to bed. It's been a high 180-190 to a low of 73 and more often in-between. I plan on asking him about it when I see him next month. I don't know if I'm doing good or bad.

I'm up, I'm drinking coffee, I'm nursing the Tobers. It is currently 23 degrees, with snow predicted late tonight and all day tomorrow. I'm hoping Toby and I can get out briefly this afternoon to finish up our shopping. It may be our very last chance.

Now that I think about it, my wife, who was in a back brace for most of the first half of the year, and I didn't do much theatre going in 2008. In fact, we only saw 4 musicals:
SPAMALOT (in San Antonio)
ALTAR BOYZ (in Austin)
LA CAGE AUX FOLLES (in Los Angeles)
And, the best of them all:
HAIL ON THE CHIEF!

Orange Kitty strikes again.
I was about to ask if anyone had seen the DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL remake..... I was interested until I learned that Jaden Smith was playing the Billy Gray role....
I can't take it.....sorry.

Vixmom, your little present is on its way. Enjoy!

TOD: By plays and musicals, does that mean "live" performances?
That's what I assumed.

Slow business this morning.....perhaps it will pick up in the afternoon. I hope. Last Saturday was sort of this way, too. Nothing until about two or three o'clock.

The reviews have been terrible, and I'm not a fan of Jaden Smith either. I'll definitely take a pass on this. I may catch it once it shows up on HBO next year, but that's all the attention it'll merit from me.

Page Five Dance!!!

TOD:
Because of my very demanding work assignment, I have taken very little time off this year to go see live theater. In fact, I've only seen two productions in 2008: the national tour of THE DROWSY CHAPARONE and a Winston-Salem community theater production of THE FULL MONTY. I enjoyed both tremendously.
-
I'll be watching THE LAST EMPEROR on Blu-ray this afternoon for work purposes. At least I won't have to sit through all of the bonus features again. I'll just check to see whether Criterion has encoded them in HD or SD and that will be that. Should take the majority of the afternoon, however.
-
And I saved GHOST WHISPERER from last night to watch today while I eat lunch, so I'm looking forward to that. From the few comments that have been made thus far about the episode, it sounds like a good one.
-
DR JoseSPiano - the New York Times seems to have enjoyed Paul Groves' recital almost as much as you did! :)
-
As for the Topic of the Day...
Hmmm... I'm going to have to think about this one - and check back through some Playbills and ticket stubs. This past year seemed to be a "Music" one for me rather than a "Theatre" one. But... Oh...
August: Osage County
Boeing-Boeing
Gypsy (although, I preferred the original presentation at City Center)
In The Heights
South Pacific

DR JoseSPiano - the New York Times seems to have enjoyed Paul Groves' recital almost as much as you did! :)
I read that. Although, they really should have published a more flattering picture of him. He seems to have been caught mid-ümlaut.

Hello, everyone.
My hood must be one of the few places in the US without snow. That could change tomorrow, though. Like Cillaliz, I usually enjoy winter. This year, no.

After reading all the posts the past few days, I'm rather grateful that we've been getting only rain here in the Philadelphia area instead of all the snow/sleet/freezing rain I've been hearing about. That lucky streak might end tonight, however, so I want to try to get all my shopping and errands done today.
My number one errand will be to get that light bulb for the train engine!

Last Monday my buyers withdrew their offer. Last Tuesday night they decided they want to buy my house after all. Let's just say this is a buyers' market and they are being bas---; uh, buyers. You would not believe how stupid and ridiculous this has become. Suffice to say that I am EXHAUSTED. I shall spare you my angst. Let's just say I am NOT in a good mood.

Our 'hood has no snow, either. We would if it had been colder yesterday morning and the heavy rain had been snow.

Best plays I saw this year were:
Boston Marriage, starring The Lovely Wife
Arcadia
Moonlight & Magnolias, in which I played Ben Hecht
Merry Wives of Windsor
Constant Star
Pillowman
Fantasticks, directed by The Lovely wife and currently playing
All of the above were done at Actors Guild of Lexington
I also saw a good local production of History Boys
I saw a terrific production of the SEAFARER at the Ensemble Theatre in Cincinnati.
Musically, I enjoyed Johnny Crawford and his 1920's dance band onstage at Pioneer Playhouse in Danville.
I'm actually looking for theatre in 2009, with a trip to London. Already booked: August:Osage County; Twelfth Night with Derek Jacobi; RSC's Midsummer Night's Dream; Entertaining Mr. Sloane with Imelda Staunton; Complicit with Richard Dreyfuss at the Old Vic...

My great-nephew Jayden has arrived to spend the day and night with Grandma and Grandpa, and he is one smart 3-year-old whippersnapper. He wanted a chap stick and I had a spare one in my coat pocket, so I am now his best friend. I've taught him several new vocabulary words this morning: "Tasty" and "Gurgle" and Randy's taking him Christmas shopping later. Jo's advice was "come back and tell grandma what he buys."
He and Jo will spend some time watching cartoons and preparing food fro tomorrow's party while I work on Victor Herbert music.
DR Ginny, I may just check out the Cincinnati Ballet's schedule for this week.

No snow here. I'm not complaining.

I was starting to worry about this upcoming storm in the Pacific Northwet. However, this morning the radio and televsion stations are all doing variations of STORM WATCH, 2008! That is ususally a sure sign that the storm is going to miss us entirely.

Good Afternoon!
Well, I had sort of made plans to see a couple of movies today - I really want to see "The Class" ("Entre les murs") - but it feels more like a cocooning day. Or maybe even a good day for some holiday baking. :)

Thanks, Sing.
I think I shall curl up with a book and be a grump.
Have a nice wintry day, everyone.

Well today is the day I'm going to the movies and dinner with my friend. He called again last night and we chatted for about 15 minutes.

What movie?
The Day The Earth Stood Still.
As in The Day that everyone's emergencies stood still so Danise could go to a movie with her gentleman friend!
-
Well today is the day I'm going to the movies and dinner with my friend. He called again last night and we chatted for about 15 minutes.
I hope he isn't to shocked when he sees me. I've gained so much weight.
DR Danise, if he expresses shock and can't see your lovely personality, he's taking you out for the wrong reasons. Have a grand time tonight!
I do plan on going on some kind of diet after the first of the year--with everything that has happened as of late, I just wasn't in the mood to stick to any kind of plan.
Now that I have all of the Weight Watchers books, I think I will go back on that.
I'm thinking about joining WW after the holidays, too - we could be an online group! DR Cillaliz can be our inspirational leader!
I like their motto...stop dieting, start living

Count me in too! I've gotta lose this baby weight.
Well, they have a new plan. It's called the Momentum plan and it's a combination of the flex plan and the core plan. Not really much different but there has been a little grumbling about it. If you really want to do it, I recommend doing the monthly pass and the etools. You can track everything on line and it calculates your points for you. I also really enjoy the meetings. People who follow the plan and go to meetings lose more weight and people who do those two things and do etools lose the most.
-
The thing I like the most about the WW meetings is that it's such a positive environment. Everyone cheers when you do well and commiserates when you are struggling. There are always good suggestions, recipes that people have adjusted, suggestions for things to eat at restaurants that are good and low points etc. We laugh a lot and it's a good motivation to keep going

Just got the horrible news that one of my interviewees passed away. Miss Lynn Bernay died on Dec. 14th of brain cancer at her home in New Mexico. I didn't even know she was ill, although I had not heard from her in quite some time.
She was mainly a dancer in films like SINGING IN THE RAIN and GUYS AND DOLLS and all of those 1950s Columbia and AIP musicals (DON'T KNOCK THE ROCK, CARNIVAL ROCK, etc), but she also worked as an actress in films like VALLEY OF THE REDWOODS and VIKING WOMEN AND THE SEA SERPENT.

A local production of "Forbidden Broadway" that was highly entertaining, professional and energetic.

Wow! This looks interesting. It's a WW recipe suggestion
Wasabi Mashed Potatoes
POINTS® Value: 3
Servings: 4
Preparation Time: 10 min
Cooking Time: 25 min
Level of Difficulty: Easy
We spiked these mashed potatoes with wasabi-powder and wow, do they have fantastic flavor. Excellent with roast chicken, pork or beef.
Ingredients
4 medium potato(es), peeled and cut into large chunks (about 2 lbs)
1/2 cup(s) 2% reduced fat milk
1 tsp wasabi powder, or more to taste
2 tbsp reduced-fat sour cream
1 tbsp butter
1 tbsp chives, fresh, minced
1/2 tsp table salt
Instructions
Boil potatoes in a large pot of water over high heat until very tender when pricked with a fork, about 15 to 20 minutes; drain and mash potatoes with a hand masher or electric mixer.
Heat milk in a small saucepan over medium heat for 5 minutes; add wasabi powder and stir to dissolve. Add milk mixture, sour cream, butter, chives and salt to potatoes; stir to combine. Yields a generous 1/2 cup per serving.

Oy and vey. We are back from a very harrowing trip out and about, since we had to go to church to pick up our Christmas Sharing gifts and deliver them to a needy family. This is pretty horrible weather for Portland, with several inches of snow accumulation already this morning and, even worse driving-wise, sheets of ice everywhere. I was really nervous driving, which I normally am not. Glad to be back home, safe and warm!

Thinking of Vixmom:
Ginger:
Fresh ginger, or ginger root, is a powerful anti-inflammatory that combats certain cancer cells and helps slow tumor growth. A ginger infusion can also alleviate nausea from chemotherapy or radiotherapy.
How to Use It: Add grated fresh ginger to a vegetable stir-fry or fruit salad. Or, make an infusion by slicing a 1-inch piece of ginger and steeping it in boiling water for 10 to 15 minutes; drink hot or cold.

sounds lovely -- I am happy to report I can still (barely ) taste chocolate -
I think I must do research on taste buds anbd how they work.
Taste buds on the tongue can distinguish sweet, salty, sour and bitter tastes...
Cream Cheese, Ketchup and Relish have strong sour components; perhaps those buds have been less affected.

yesterday Dan (the man ) siad
I also enjoyed reading this. I think it's so cool that someone else not only knows what a garden is but has one! I have so many childhood memories of my Dad and I setting ours up.
And a "proper" Christmas garden needs a farm with animals.

Hmmm TOD, trying to think what I saw this year, it's down from past years because I only got to NYC once. Let's see. The only shows I remember seeing are:

Back from a couple of errands to local merchants. As a combined birthday/retirement present, my sister and niece gave me a gift certificate to the Vera Bradley dealer in town, so I spent that and picked up a few stocking stuffers, too. Then I went to Central Pastry for some dessert for tonight, which I will serve from the lovely crystal domed cake stand that my mother gave me for birthday/retirement.
DR Jane's life is very exciting today!

We ate some last night. We have cake & champagne for today.

I am so glad.
This if my first time online today. And i was rushing through the posts to see if your son made it on time.
Yeah!
There is supposed to be a really big storm here tomorrow (20-30cm). Not too worried about that. But i'm very concerned that there is supposed to be one on Christmas eve. We always go to my aunt's house. and she prepares a big dinner. She doesn't live that far. But it's at least 30 minutes and a bunch of highways with no snow and traffic. I hate driving that far in a snow storm.

My niece wanted a chocolate set for Christmas (where you make your own chocolates). My mom used to make chocolates a lot and she found her stuff. I have molds for Channukah lollipops and little santa clauses. This is the first time i've made chocolates.
I got the chocolate wafers. ANd food coloring. And made some white chocolate, milk chocolate and put blue and red dye in the white chocolate. Painting was not as easy as i thought. Although my niece just colored the whole mold. So that part was easy. Only problem was in between colors i had to put the molds in the freezer.
And my niece decided she should take a nap while i finished. :)
Only problem is it took me an hour of reading to her for her to fall asleep.
I"m hoping these chocolates will turn out.

I will say i expected to depise the jim storyline. But i am totally loving it. I'm guessing we will find out who the fiancee is. But what i wonder is will the guy get jim's memories sometime. I can't tell if sam will fall for melinda as is, as jim. Or if jim will get back in jim's body. It's very confusing. But i am loving it (although it makes no sense why we see jim instead of the other guy's face). But i'm happy to have david conrad. Love him.

Does anybody have a recipe to make homemade marshmellow creme using marshmellows.
My mom had one where you add milk. I was wondering if that was the best way. I don't seem to be having much luck so far online.

re: last night's GHOST WHISPERER
...(although it makes no sense why we see jim instead of the other guy's face).
We see the other guy's face whenever it is eflected in a mirror - last night we saw Jim talking with Melinda by her car, but the relection in the rear view was not Jim.

Today was the practice for tomorrow's children's nativity. They always seem to turn out, but this one looks like, well, quite disorganized. Then Mae-Ling and Wae-Ling and I made some cupcakes for tomorrow's birthday party for Jesus.

Jennifer, I think we just used marshmallow cream in a jar.

re: the marshmellow creme.
It is for fudge that is using evaporated milk if that makes a difference.
Also, maybe someone here will know this. My niece wanted marshmellow in her chocolate lollipops. But i wasn't sure what to do with it so that it would turn out marshmellow in the middle.
My mom suggested just cutting up the marshmellows. I wasn't sure whether to melt them or what. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks.

From once upon a time DR Allan in Bournemouth UK:
I went to see Maria Friedman in concert in the Trafalgar Studios in Whitehall. She was absolutely wonderful with a great selection of material. She came to sing The Worst Pies in London and I was sitting in the end seat in the second row, so she came and got me and I had to be Sweeney Todd - I had to eat the pie and drink some ale and everything. Then at the end she came and sat on my knee and then as she sang 'times is hard' she got up quickly and looked at me shocked - it was all really funny, then I had to take a bow. So that's my West End debut (and no doubt my West End swan song

Either me or my glasses are not straight. I will have my glasses adjusted but not me.

Holy moley on rye - what a whirlwind day this has been so far - like bumper cars - nothing harmful but a lot of action.
Someone on the film music message board had the bad taste to print my Kritzerland eBlast e-mail, and all hell broke loose. It was really bad form to do it, but it's done. Unfortunately, I can't get the thing listed on the Kritzerland site before Tuesday night at the earliest and, more likely, Wednesday morning. So, I had quite a few orders this morning, and because they trumped the announcement, a prominent online dealer put it up for preorder on HIS site, which eats into my orders a little, but that's okay.
elmore, as I said a week ago, it won't be up on the Kritzerland site till Wednesday morning, but you can preorder it by going directly to paypal.com and inputting our paypal address of kritzerland at adelphia dot net - cost is 17.98 plus 3.75 for shipping.
-
Then I got hold of the guy who runs the pressing plant - I had his cell phone number, and he told me that they hadn't started pressing yet - thank the Lord! So, we put a hold on it until they get the new master, which will be Monday or Tuesday morning at the latest. So, it shouldn't slow anything down - the earliest I was expecting CDs was 1/5 and we'll definitely be on target for that.
-
I made a "retired person" decision to postpone the big grocery trip until Monday - keep out of the way of the working people who have to shop on the weekends. I do have a couple of other errands to run, though, so
Bye for now!
I did the exact same thing when I retired. I used to shop on Sunday. Now I shop on Friday at noon.
-
The rain finally did arrive, so we're back to being soggy again. It was so lovely around noon. Now, dripping wet again.

I watched GHOST WHISPERER while I ate lunch. This episode resembled MEDIUM more than just about any previous episode in my memory of GHOST WHISPERER. I did enjoy it.
I don't think it's one bit dumb the way the producers are dealing with the Jim/Sam situation re David Conrad. We faithful viewers are all intelligent enough to know that David Conrad/Sam is not David Conrad/Jim, and the producers give us credit for being able to realize that. Knowing that we want David Conrad to remain on the show, that's the way the producers have shaken up the show so it doesn't get stale. I think it's working out beautifully. DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES jumped five years into the future. LOST started using flashforwards. GHOST WHISPERER has given a favorite actor a new role and allowed their leading lady to play different emotions in her pursuit of happiness. All have been done to jump start new life into shows that might have begun to run out of fresh ideas using the old formulas. Bravo!
-
I spent the rest of the afternoon watching the Blu-ray of THE LAST EMPEROR. Lord, that is ONE LONG MOVIE.
Sharpness and color depth are greatly improved over the SD-DVD, and there is no line shimmer at all on those roof tops. But the reframing of the image continues to bother me, not all the time, but there are two or three places where it just doesn't work AT ALL with people chopped in half at the edges or long shot compositions that are clipped.
-
I will get to the bonus features tonight. One notable omission I noticed on the Blu-ray set: the extended TV version of the film was not included on the Blu-ray.
-
In the mail today from Amazon was the Blu-ray of MAMMA MIA! I know what I will be watching tonight. Of course, I will also finish THE SUM OF ALL FEARS which I started last night and only got halfway through.
-
I'm still catching up.
Wonderful news indeed from DR Jane.
Congratulations to All!
and even to the cat sitter.
-
And DR Debbie (VM) - you are amazing. Our prayers are still with you and your family.
-
Special prayers for the citizens of DtM's village.
-
We watched "Once" last night.
OK but just. Perhaps you have to creative genes to enjoy this more.
(at least it was better than "Crash" and "A Home At the End Of the World".)
-
WE HAVE A DAUGHTER!!! :D :D :D
-
DR Jennifer, a black blouse, a pretty skirt, and great looking hi-healed boots so she is closer in height to Craig. She looks very pretty. I lent her my grandmother's watch to wear.
I wish I could see what the heck I'm doing when I take photos-with my contacts in I can't see much of anything, plus it is the first time I've used the camera.
-
Congratulations to the happy couple!
-
thank you!
-
Now, I'm heading down to finish up with THE LAST EMPEROR and then get on to some fun stuff.
WBBL.
-
Wonderful news DR Jane. What a wonderful day. More Congratulations.
-
Thank you. I'm so relieved it all went well. The snow made for a beautiful backdrop.
Craig is making lunch & we will go out to dinner later. We missed most of the restaurants for lunch.

Mazal tov!

DR Jane - Again...
Mazel tov!

The sun has set on another day here.
This morning, my mom and I went for a nice walk. Took no camera, thus no pictures are forthcoming. But there was an AMAZING small dog that came trotting up behind us. He had "Meg-Foster-Blue" eyes! I wanted to pick him up and make off with him.
After our walk, my Aunt Doris picked us up and took us to the P.K., where we each had a hamburger and fries. After that, My aunt came over and we played "Skip-Bo" all afternoon. Nine games. My mom won seven of them, and I won two.

...It seems colder in the East Village and Alphabet City. Hopefully, my candle won't go out... Unless I happen to come across a cute starving artist. ;)

Yes, Jane, congratulations on the marriage of a son and acquisition of a daughter(-in-law). May you always get along with the mother of the bride!
-
My mom's cable company is not presently broadcasting "high-def" programming. !!!
They do broadcast digital programming. It's approximately $5 more per month than the "other" package they offer (two packages, folks!).
My mom has been told she need do nothing with her analog TV sets come February when the conversion takes place. The cable company has told her they will deliver a signal already converted.
I had to call and clarify what seemed odd to me. If someone has an HDTV but a signal-converted-to-work-with-analog-TVs is being sent out, how does that work. I've been assured they'll send a high-def signal that all the HDTV's can pick up while the analog TVs will have an embedded signal only they can pick up.
I guess I could have figured that out on my own with a bit more time, but Northland Cable isn't exactly ComCast.
-
I have made a New Year's resolution already. It's got to remain secret until July 1, 2009.
But I'll be working on the resolution every day.

I'm not saying i would want the producers/writers to do the jim/sam thing any other way. I"m loving the storyline and i did not think i would. What i said was that logically it makes little sense for us to see david conrad, since nobody else (not even melinda) sees him when she looks at sam. If she saw jim then i could understand why would do.
I love it. And it was an interesting way to breathe new life into the show. It just doesn't really make sense if you think about it!
-
DR Jane, i'm so happy everything worked out!
-
Congratulations to DR Jane, Keith, and the happy couple!
-
I am a bit worried about George and his fellow Reefer-ettes doing a show this evening. Our heavy snow storm has already begun here in Tacoma, and Olympia always gets hit with the snow first.
-
Yes, Jane, congratulations on the marriage of a son and acquisition of a daughter(-in-law). May you always get along with the mother of the bride!
Thanks you. We met her once in Bucharest & found her to be very nice & likable. We exchange cards & emails once in awhile. She understands English better than speaking it, and we don't understand or speak any Romanian.
I'm glad you are having such a nice visit.
-
The happy couple are having a quiet time, Keith just finished shoveling the road a bit more, and Bryan is playing Christmas music on the piano.
-
Is this where I catch the damn train to the ChristmasVillageNativity? I have been waiting all the damn day!
-
Had it. Gave it away.
That is the title of my memoirs.
-
EBLAST on the message board.....there shure be some genusses on the inner web, ain't they?
-
DT TCB I hope your snow doesn't reach us until after we pick Kate up from the airport & return home. She doesn't arrive until 11:45PM. The boys tried to save us money on the airline tickets & the best deals all arrived late. I'm not sure with the additional costs of hotel rooms we have saved much. ;D
Bryan really had an odd yesterday. Originally he booked a later flight as he had a morning mid-term. Then due to the snow storm school was canceled giving him more than enough time to get to the airport. He planned to hitch an early ride with a friend. The friend's flight was canceled so he found a new ride. When he arrived at the ride's house he found the car was snowed in, again no ride. Now time was beginning to get short but all was still ok when he called a friend who offered to drive him to the airport. Part way to the airport there was a very long train in their path & it was stuck on the track. :o By the time they found a way around it & made it to the airport Bryan only had 45 minutes to check in. If he weren't checking a bag they would have let him on. I'm shocked 45 minutes wasn't enough time to check a bag.
Thanks goodness all worked out well.
-
Bruce that is nice Jennifer could visit early & it sure beats wondering if she will be there for Christmas. Now you can relax & make other plans.
-
DR ELMORE - I received the Kultural Kare Package today. Believe it or not - I had NONE of these items in my possession.....and now I have them all.
DR ELMORE - you are The Monkey's Uncle!

This morning's breakfast: Sausage, grits, eggs and toast. Glass of orange juice. A cup of Peet's French roast coffee (I brought the coffee with me from Oakland).
Ronsie, Peets is sold nationally. We sell it at the store where I work. And if you check their website (http://www.peets.com/default.asp?rdir=1&ftv=n), you should be able to find a store close to where you are that sells the stuff.
You don't have to take it with you.
(Unless, of course, you mean that you brought a thermos with you, which I don't think the airlines allow these days.)
::)

Or, make an infusion by slicing a 1-inch piece of ginger and steeping it in boiling water for 10 to 15 minutes; drink hot or cold.

thank you ! I have been drinking gingerale (which still has all its flavor)
-
I shall have to go to the supermarket and see if they have fresh ginger

Add to my weekend viewing pleasure:
Season 4 on LOST on Blu Ray. It was very unexpected Christmas gift. Love it. I have watch the first two discs. Love what they have to offer and find the flash forwards very intriguing
-
I went and decorated Christmas like in the house and it all looks very nice.
It is very white outside.

WE HAVE A DAUGHTER!!! :D :D :D
and there was great rejoicing!!!!

VIBES for keeping the resolution!!!
-
DR Jane - I am so thrilled for you and your family that everything worked out so well!!!! :) :) :)
-
We had a meeting after the show to discuss the remaining two performances and how the weather might affect them.
:-\
Well, I got the call: our tonight's show has been canceled...and probably tomorrow's, too. :P
Otherwise, it's lovely outside, but it's just not good for driving. So, I'm at home and have a lot of TV watching to do, unless the power goes out. Let's hope not!
-
DR Edisaurus - the mailman brought a lovely Mercer CD today.... thank you so very much!!!!!
-
Vixdad wants the computer - laters
-
WE HAVE A DAUGHTER!!! :D :D :D
Congratulations!! ;D
-
And now, I must catch up on all the posts...back to page 1. :)
-
DR elmore3003: I am astonished.
Thank you!!!!! :)
-
That's disappointing, DR George. But I'm sure it was the right decision.
-
Tomorrow was supposed to be a big music Sunday at the church. At this point, I can get there - by train. But I don't know how many of the choir folk will make it. Or if the substitute organist will. In which case those who show up may be singing ad libitum. :P
-
That's disappointing, DR George. But I'm sure it was the right decision.
Yeah, sure, whatever.
;)
-
Well, if I don't get started on my Chirstmas cards, I will never get them out in time. They may turn out to be Valentine cards. ;)
I don't know what is wrong with me. I ALWAYS get my cards done over the Thanksgiving Holiday and have them in that Mondays mail.
Later Gaters!
Don't feel bad! I haven't done mine, yet. ::) Except that since mine aren't specifically Christmas cards (they're holiday cards), so it's okay if they arrive after "Christmas"...that's my story and I'm sticking to it. ;)
-
Congrats to Jane & family!!!
-
Keith has Bryan in the car, they will meet the lovely lady doing the celebration near our freeway exit & drive her to us. There is no way her car will make it up our road.
I can't help it!
I'm visualizing Keith picking up a woman who is holding up a sign reading "Will Wed For Food!"

Keith rarely finds the Peet's he wants at the market. We stock up in L.A. or Portland, or whenever we are near a Peet's store.

Topic of the Day:
I haven't seen much in the way of local theater. I was in Side Show, which was a lot of fun, and we just (sadly) unceremoniously ended Reefer Madness! The Musical! Otherwise, I saw Six Women With Brain Death at Capital Playhouse and it was good. I didn't quite get it, but it was well done. :)
Otherwise, I saw Shrek and it was quite good. Seven Brides for Seven Brothers was pretty good. I loved The Drowsy Chaperone! :)
-
I am beginning to think that I am not going to make it to church in the morning.
I am sorry that your last two shows were canceled George, but it isn't the kind of night to go out.

Nice photo Jane! They are a very handsome couple

Back from a meal and more bumper cars - this time literally, unfortunately. I was coming north on Laurel Canyon and in the left turn lane at my street. Now, they've been doing work a little further south so the southbound lanes have been backed up all week. So, cars nicely stop and allow people to turn left rather than block the intersection. That is precisely what happened - the cars in the left and right lanes were stopped. I proceeded to turn left slowly, and then from out of nowhere some ASSHOLE speeds through trying to beat me, even though there's nowhere for him to go. He wasn't really even in a lane (there's room to drive on the extreme right, but there are really only two called out lanes). So, he didn't beat me and I hit the back of his car - he spun around completely but didn't hit anyone else, thankfully. I finished my left turn and got out of my car, hopping mad. He perused the his car, which from where I was standing didn't look like it had much if any damage. He had his son or some young man in the car with him. He came up to me with a very cocky attitude and I immediately saw that and said, "You're not going to say this wasn't your fault, are you?" And this fat mo-fo says, "Yes, it was 100% your fault." I said, "See you in court, pal, you won't be getting away with this one." Luckily, I had someone in the car who was coming back with me to do something on the computer, and who saw EVERYTHING. This guy hands me his card and wouldn't you know, he's both a CPA AND a lawyer, hence the cockiness. I checked my car and other than it having had its front license plate ripped off the car, the bumper was just scuffed - I'll probably have it replaced, and I have to get the license reattached pronto, probably first thing Monday morning. I called my insurance hotline and reported it and filed a claim and told them exactly what happened. I have no doubt that this peckerwood is going to do whatever he can to make it seem like he was in the right. But I will stand firm. The worst that could happen is that my insurance company will have to settle with him, but I don't want to. Also, neither he nor his son nor me nor my passenger was harmed in any way - it will be interesting to see if he goes down THAT road, what with being an attorney and all.
-
Lovely photo DR JANE.....and today was a perfect day - star wise - to be wed.

Wow! MR BK.....planet wise - your accident happened 24 hours late!

I am glad that you weren't hurt, BK.

For DR Matt Hough or anyone else who knows about Blu Ray
I was watching LOST (Disc 3). Turned it off and came back to it later. It would not load up. I tried another Blu Ray Disc and a DVD and the both worked, It thought my Lost discs somehow were defective so I exchanged them. Same thing I could load them. I then tried Mama Mia which worked yesterday, but today would not work.
I have the latest firm ware. I have turned off the machine. Turn it back on. It would not get past loading disc.
very strange. some work some don't.
any ideas? any suggestions?

I just got back from seeing THE READER.
It's one of the very best, emotionally involving, films I've seen so far this year.
Kate Winslet could finally get her Oscar for this one.

Well, I need to brave the snow and wind and check my mail. :P It was too early to check it when I drove home this afternoon, so now, if there is any mail for me, it's here. After I get back, I'm going to watch a LOT of TV that's been recorded on my DVR! ;D
-
Until later!

I get back from a lovely evening with DR Ginny and Richard to find our DR Nursie a mother-in-law and BK in an accident and DR MBarnum doing something like Christmas, but God knows what he did from his syntax! It's all too too too exciting at HHW tonight.
I had a wonderful time with DR Ginny and my old junior high school chum Richard. I love shaddock's pizza and it was just right. And the finish, a cake from Central Pastry, my fave bakery. Too too divine.
Nursie, how fantastic that everything worked out today for your family. I hope everyone on departure gets a Mallomar to sustain them on their journey.

BK, thanks for reposting the TWISTED NERVE info. I think it's great that before its release it's causing mass hysteria.
As for the mo-fo in the accident, pin him to the wall!

Add to my weekend viewing pleasure:
Season 4 on LOST on Blu Ray. It was very unexpected Christmas gift. Love it. I have watch the first two discs. Love what they have to offer and find the flash forwards very intriguing
Season 4 was my favorite season of the show along with season 1. I found the entirety of season 4 spellbinding. Jaw-dropping moments in almost every single episode.

Elmore, I am so glad you are having such a good time in Ohio, even if it does have to involve the Macbeths. Just remember, even in Shakespeare's version, there is a happy ending.
-
I'm on-line a bit earlier than I expected. I came up to put the finishing touches on THE LAST EMPEROR Blu-ray review, and it went more quickly than I anticipated.
-
The snow storm is very exciting, the most snow we have had in Tacoma in several years. Still, it is bedtime.
G'night!
-
I don't know from syntax.
-
There is a lot of deep snow on the ground. Now tiny ice globs are falling, it is either sleet or freezing rain, I can't tell which just yet.

What kind of player are you using, if you don't mind my asking? Some are crankier than others. (My PS3 has never given one second of trouble, and the Samsung 1500's latest firmware fixed the only problem I've ever had with it: not loading FOR YOUR EYES ONLY past the FBI warnings.)
The Blu-rays of LOST (and GREY'S ANATOMY) use that system that is supposed to keep track of which episodes you've watched and which you haven't. It's supposed to save your place when you stop before finishing a disc. The system worked flawlessly on both my players, so I really have no clue what's wrong.
Next time this happens, don't just try turning off the player. Try unplugging it and leaving it off for a bit. I'm not saying that will help, but it can't hurt, and it certainly reset my Toshiba HD-DVD player when I did that.
-
DR Michael Shayne, I also highly recommend the user forums at the AVS Forum. They have user forums for every make of Blu-ray player, and just reading through the pages of user comments and questions has helped me lots of little questions I've had about my equipment. If you join (free), you can pose the question about your machine if it hasn't already been asked.
-
I began my evening zipping through the bonus features on THE LAST EMPEROR disc. They are all exactly the same from the DVD set apart from the omission of the longer TV-version of the movie and a much shorter booklet in the package. None of the featurettes are in high definition. They're all 480p.
-
Next, I watched MAMMA MIA! on Blu-ray. Just like the stage show in terms of entertainment value, it's a pure puff piece, completely forgettable the second the movie is over.
Sharpness is exemplary, but the color values are all over the place: sometimes oversaturated and sometimes more normal seeming. Sometimes the flesh is too orange or yellow and other times excellent.
All of the women are grand (I wish Meryl had lost about ten pounds before the start of filming), and I liked Peter Firth's light, lilting voice. After all the vicious pans of Pierce Brosnan's singing, I was expecting the worst, so perhaps that's why I was pleasantly surprised when he sang a good many correct notes. The problem is that his voice has no lyrical quality to it at all. It's a dry, scratchy sound that's not very appealing. But it wasn't as awful as I was expecting. What a shame they didn't get someone like Brent Barrett or Tom Wopat to play that role, though. I don't think it would have mattered at all to the film's stellar box-office take.
-
I finished my evening of viewing with three more OUR GANG comedy shorts, among my favorites is "Fly My Kite" as a crooked son-in-law tries to steal Grandma's bonds worth $100,000. I love how the gang comes to her aid.

Good Evening!
I <heart> Momofuku Noodle Bar. -As well as Momofuku Milk Bar... Even if they did end up shorting me one Compost Cookie, but at least the Marshmallow-Chocolate-Chip-Cornflake Cookie made it home.
*And the Compost Cookie is not what it seems like it would be - thankfully. It's actually made with Butterscotch Chips, Pretzels, Potato Chips, Chocolate Chips and Finely Ground Coffee Beans. Guess I'll have to go back tomorrow. ;)
-
...Although, since I did pick up a Chocolate Covered(!) Lemon Bar and a Chocolate-Dipped Apricot Linzer Cookie from Something Sweet...
...And a Vegan Red Velvet Cupcake from Pinisi Bakery...
...And a Chocolate Chip and Gingerbread Cookie from birdbath/City Bakery...
Well...
*And, believe it or not, all said baked goods made it home intact, and they only thing consumed so far has been the Marshmallow-Chocolate Chip-Cornflake Cookie. -I actually found myself buying things tonight mainly for photographic purposes. ::)
-
bk - Glad to know your OK.
*And I'd highly advise you to refrain from mentioning anything else about this incident on this here site. If he is a CPA and has some other legal connections, god knows, he's probably already Google'd you to gather "character evidence" about you. Spite and "threats" never work well in court.
**And isn't it normally best NOT to admit or put the blame on anyone at the sight of an accident?
In any case, I wish you well.
-
DR singdaw - What time is the service? And how close to the train station is your church? ;)
-
Had it. Gave it away.
That is the title of my memoirs.
;D
*Just as long as I get mentioned in the Acknowledgements/Thank You's. ;)

Quote of the night from the weather "tomorrow we're only warming up to negative one and winter doesn't start until tomorrow"
-
Oh...
And after my Pumpkin Horchata, Steamed Pork Buns, and Bouchot Mussels (w/Miso Garlic Sausage, Black Kale, Fennel and Red Chili Pepper), I thoroughly enjoyed a "twist" of Quince and Smoked(!) Maple Soft Serve Ice Cream.

DR Cillaliz?
;)

Oh, my, for the second night in a row, I'm finished with my internet surfing before 11:30. Guess I'll go downstairs and get ready for bed.
Good night!

Glad you weren't hurt Bruce & hopefully you will never hear from the guy.

Thank you DRs Cilla, TCB,JRand, Singdaw, Druxy,George & elmore.

the wedding cake
-
Signing the marriage certificate :)
-
beautiful pics, Jane! Congratulations to the happy couple.
Maybe I missed it, but was there a reason that they decided on a small home wedding?
-
DR Ann, Ioana's family, basically her mother & stepfather, are in Romania so they wanted a small wedding. They had planned to get married in Greece, with her family there, but the timing never worked & Craig still needs to find a job.
-
The worst that could happen is that my insurance company will have to settle with him, but I don't want to. Also, neither he nor his son nor me nor my passenger was harmed in any way - it will be interesting to see if he goes down THAT road, what with being an attorney and all.
Good Luck! Insurance law is tricky - rarely is any driver held blameless for an accident at an intersection; the presumption is that every driver is responsible for assuring that the intersection is clear for passage. Regardless of the reasons, you surely can be charged with a failure to yield. I am amazed you left the scene without calling the police - and if the combined damge to your car and his is greater than $750 (which at today's prices is a scratched bumper) you must make a DMV report.
If you gathered no witness statements (your passanger doesn't count) it will be a "he said - she said" event. For your sake, I hope the other guy doesn't wake up tomorrow claiming whiplash.

I just watched a movie on my netbook from the Netflix watch it now (or whatever they call it) although the screen is very small it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I'm not going to mess with a viewer to watch them on my TV unless the selection gets better or I decide to watch them more often

the wedding cake
I presume Sherlock was chained to a bedpost or there'd be no cake :D
der Brucer
-
Oh no, Sherlock was a very good boy. He attempted to sniff the cake & we said "leave". He almost shoved his nose in Ioana's bouquet-lol. I'll have to post the funny photo of Craig's expression when Sherlock almost caught his tail on fire passing it through the flame of one of the candles.
-
Sherlock was a very good boy...
A present to his big brother Craig?
der Brucer
-
Sherlock likes his big brother & sister and they enjoyed having Sherlock at the wedding since they are missing Yogi.
-
He attempted to sniff the cake & we said "leave".
Well that won't work with Fletcher! When he is about to get into trouble he is not looking for hand signals.
der Brucer
He made off with a mouthful of chicken bones before I could stop him - which of course earned him the added treat of a soft dinner roll to help cushion the bone.
-
He can claim whatever he likes, I suppose. I'm insured. And I'm sorry, I just visited the intersection - and since there was a car stopped in the left AND right lanes, it means he had to have come around them in a non-lane where cars park, in a clear attempt to try and get ahead of people - only he didn't understand that cars were STOPPED and he wasn't even in a LANE.
-
Back from seeing Milk.

I guess there is no"don't wag!" command.

I have a Sony 300.
Lost and Mama Mia both worked earlier on my player. I took them over to a friend's player and they work. Tried two other Blus --Mad Max 2 and 2001 They work. I tried regular DVD and they work. But when I put in Lost or Mamma is will say loading in the upper left corner. I wait a while another happens and I press the top menu button, play flashes for a moment and then the blue loading bar shows up at bottom of the screen and then just keeps on loading and loading

Might he have been intending to turn right (onto the same street you were headed for)?

Off to pick DS Bryan's fiancee, Kate, up at the airport. We think the road will be ok to drive up tonight. Just in case I'm taking a flashlight.

Nope, he was clearly trying to go around other cars and NOT looking where he was going or what was happening around him. The proof of that, of course, is that I only clipped the BACK of his car after he PASSED me.

I've a question, related to the Topic of the Day, that I'm seriously curious about. As always, I'm worried about sounding snotty. Those of you who don't attend the theatre very often: Why not? Do you not like plays and musicals? Are tickets too expensive? Is there not a wide enough array of stage entertainment near were you live?
Best thing I saw all year, by a long stretch: [title of show]
It's hard to come up with a list when I'm far from my playbills, but I know I liked:
Like You Like It
August: Osage County
Idaho!
Gypsy
Bonnie & Clyde
About Face
The Farnsworth Invention
Sunday in the Park With George
Dear Edwina (which the dear wife, Joy, cast)
-

Having grown up with big city exposure to quality stage works, I find the thought of attending local-yokel little theatre or HS productions unattractive.
I save my theatre bucks for when we can go to DC, Philly or NY.
der Brucer
Yeah - I'm an elitist snob
-
My favorite theater experience of 2008 was clearly South Pacific. Otherwise, I enjoyed The Brain From Planet X at the Chance Theater.
