I tried deciding what to write about THE GLORIOUS ONES, other than the fact that I thought it was gripping pretty much from start to finish, with resonance to modern audiences while remaining true to its story's roots in the Commedia del'Arte (sp?), but couldn't figure out what details would not be spoilers for people who will see it.  So many lovely twists and turns, the critics are sure to spoil great moments just by description, but let me just say that i had a grand time, dare I say it a glorious work.

Some of us hang aroung and do the heavy lifting

We have done heavy lifting the last two days. After clearing brush and privet with my trusty Weed Wrench: http://www.weedwrench.com/ in preparation to take down the old horse barn at the end of our property, we moved over a ton of marble (at least 60 big blocks) which was in this barn for some reason.

There were also dozens of cinder blocks and bricks to be moved. Just as we were about to give out, our little French boy appeared and pitched in and we were done soon after. Hooray!

Better was the episode where FLorida Evans (Esther Rolle) was introduced to the family. Love her, and she and Bea Arthur had great timing in their various exchanges. She was really a scene stealer.

Esther Rolle was in the first movie I worked on. She was really nice!

On saturday night in Pittsburgh, after a visit to the South Side, I went with Ann (of All That Chat) to an excellent production of Ntozake Shange's Broadway smash of decades ago, FOR COLORED GIRLS WHO HAVE CONSIDERED SUICIDE WHEN THE RAINBOW IS ENUF.  Strange thing:  The prodcution seems to  deliberately discourage applause for the first 20 minutes or so in the placing of its sound cues, and we were led to believe they didn't want us to applaud the individual moments throughout the show.  But talking to someone at the theater after the show, some nights, the applause has happened for certain individual moments.  The applause was great at the end, but I hope the cast didn't think during the show that we were a bad audience.  The staging was just confusing at the outset on whether it was OK to applaud during the show.

DR FJL - Just in case you're still skimming the posts... Since I'll already be up in Westport Tuesday for the 10:30am school matinee, would you and DR elmore like to come up earlier to grab a bite to eat up there?  Or would you like to come in closer to show time?  Alas, DR singdaw will not be able to join us for dinner.

And if you would like to come up for dinner, should I go ahead and make a reservation at the Dressing Room?  It's "on campus", and would save another cab fare too.  *The cabs in Westport are more expensive than they are in NYC.  And since train fare is already involved with the excursion...

Been out of town since Friday. I went to see my dad. He is holding his own and is working a bit. You cant keep a farmer down but he is slowing down significantly.

I am at work right now... rather quiet so i should be out of here rather quickly.
