Good Morning!

I'm up, I'm up... And, well, the wind it is a blowin' here in Los Angeles! During my bus ride home, one car in front of us had the top of their convertible blown off. And once I got back to Glendale, I saw some downed trees, lots of fallen tree limbs, and even a sprinkler system valve that had gotten blown off. There has also been the constant din of sirens for the past 45 minutes or so.

In any case...

Opening Night was a BLAST!

I actually felt pretty good when I started off the show tonight. No real nerves to speak of, and I also started to relax and have some fun tonight too. And I think the cast also really eased into their songs as well tonight.

It was a true pleasure handing off the piano to Mr. Sherman so that he could perform, "Chimpanzoo". -And I was truly flattered when I talked to him before the show that he had remembered me from What If?. :)

Major Kudos to the Cast, and Major Thanks to bk for once again asking me to come along on another adventure!

And now...

I'm going to attempt to get some sleep. Seriously, the wind here is very scary right now. I can see things blowing around outside, and the sound of the gusts are not exactly comforting. In any case...

Goodnight.

Good morning, all! I was wide awake at 6 AM, which is distressing snce I got to bed around 1AM. I spent time after Joseph left to write a few emails about recording DEAREST ENEMY to my Dublin team and a possible leading man, read the new TV GUIDE and turned off the lights. Around 2:30 I awoke from a horrible nightmare involving a serial killer at Jesourdsville Lake, an amusement park near Middletown, OH. I cannot remember what I was dreaming before I woke up, but I'm sure iy's a mishmash of retrograde Mercury and all the recording tsuris of yesterday.

So, today, around noon, I will probably fall over.

Ths morning, now that I'm solvent, I have laundry to do, and I'll follow that up with a trip to the NYPL to deliver some things I've been holding onto, do a bit of research, and visit with staff friends.

!!!!!!!!!! Kudos to BK, our DR Jose, the cast and crew !!!!!!!!!!

I think most adaptations of "Anna Karenina" seemed bad to me once I read the book because even the miniseries changed or truncated too much of what was wonderful about the book. And certainly quite a few movie adaptations of shows like "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum," which I enjoyed until I saw it on stage.

Stage Door. It was COMPLETELY different from the staged version my high school did, and it made me upset.

Also, our production of it was pretty crappy as well. So Stage Door= ew to me now.

Seriously. Who cuts out the suicide in the play except our school? Laaaaaaaaaaaaaame. Funniest parts were the one's we added in on accident or just of rehersals honestly.

Mmmhmm. :/ Got some essays to do. No biggy, they're pretty easy for the subject material. Spanish essays usually are. It'll be done in a snap- or more likely, an hour at least. Other then that, I've been hanging out i here. I was trading notes with a classmate- she's been absent for a while, an d I knew her from highschool. She's nice, so I figured, "What the hell, why not." Just got the notebook back. How about you? How are things on your end?

DR Vixter09 - it sounds like you have things under control.  Things are pretty quiet here.  Richard and I had a busy fall with Rob and Mary Linda's wedding in September and our trip to Europe in October.  We're just enjoying being home enjoying the holidays.  We're thinking about a big room rearrangement project in our house...

DR Jennifer - I believe if you check the publication information on each e-book's page on Amazon.com, it lists which country each book can and can not be sold in.

Does anyone see this anywhere? See this is what i thought would be written for each ebook. But apparently i don't think it works this way. I'm gonna answer DR George's comment below and i'll tell you what amazon.com customer service wrote.

Jennifer, just use the Kindle PC app (which is free) to buy e-books in Canada from Amazon.com for use on your computer.  Then you can find out which books you are able to buy.  You can transfer them to a Kindle later, whenever you are able to get one.  Your Amazon account is based in Canada and that's how they determine where the book can be sold.  Whether it's on a computer or an actual Kindle device is irrelevant.  It'll either work or it won't.

I don't like reading on my computer. So yes i could do it this way. But then if i don't get the kindle i'd have to read them on my computer.

Yes my amazon account is based in Canada. But it's not exactly how they said this works (from my understanding).

Apparently once you are in your account, there is a link at the top of amazon.com called "manage your kindle". If you go there then on the left column there is a category called "country settings". You have to set that to your country. Even though my amazon account was based in canada it said "unknown". So i changed that.

The email i received from CS said that once you do this you will only be able to see books available to Canada. And the ones i wanted still show for me. So i guess that means they are available?

I guess since i'd never ordered an ebook my country setting was not set yet.

The CS email was sort of helpful. But it was another form letter. I specifically asked if certain ebooks were available (i listed 3). But he/she ignored that and just told me what to do to change my country!

Maybe you know someone in the US who would use the gift card to buy your books and get the free shipping (if the order is over $25) and then send it to you for the ACTUAL cost of shipping...which would probably be a lot less than what Amazon.com charges.

I thought of doing this. Since i believe it would only cost a few dollars to ship. Btw, the funnier part is that i only told you how much they charge for shipping if you buy one kids book. They add $4 for each tiny kids book. So if i bought 3 kids books it would ($9 for the actual books), then $5 shipping, plus $12 extra charges. So it would be $26 for $9 of books. And it would definitely cost less than $5 to ship here since they are so thin.

It's beyond ridiculous. I don't get why they charge so much. Thebookdeposistory.com (which a bunch of people have used to ship me books) is free shipping anywhere in the world. And the books arrive fast.

I ended up not ordering the books for my niece cause i refuse to pay $17 in shipping. The only reason i considered it was because i have a giftcard there.

I've had a smartphone for a few months DR Ginny. I wasn't sure whether I needed one but like all these gadgets, now that I've got it, I couldn't live without it. I especially like being able to access the internet anywhere. One app I got recently was Find My Car which is useful if, like me, your brain lacks the ability to remember where you parked.

One of my local supermarkets has just reopened after a major rebuilding/extension programme. I went there today and it looks.....er...super. I couldn't resist going in and buying loads of unnecessary but yummy foodstuffs such as chorizo snacks, ham hock quiches and Polish kabanos. I then had lunch in the new cafe - salmon and watercress sandwichwiches and a latte.

Today was my first day off work and I spent the morning doing errands. The laundry is done, I went to the Post Office and Trader Joe's and now I'm home. We will spend the rest of the day (which is beautiful, btw) relaxing. We will go to BB&B so I can show Anthony the electric razor I want for Christmas and we might go to Academy (the used CD store) but the rest of the day is ours.

We begin the volunteer stint tomorrow morning at 9:30 so I won't be around all day.

I'm up, I'm up... And I think I may be heading back to bed in a few to grab a few more winks. Alas, last night's gusty(!) weather made it very hard to sleep for more than 30 minutes at a time. Thankfully, there's been no major damage in this area, but nearby Pasadena has declared a State of Emergency due to downed power lines and the resultant power outages.

Well...

Flixter - For local movie listings.
Yelp! - For restaurant reviews and "opinions".
AccuWeather - For, well, weather.
"This American Life" - If you purchase the TAL app it gives you access to the broadcast archive.
Gourmet Live - It's a app-only weekly version of "Gourmet" magazine.
Shakespeare - All of the Bard's plays and sonnets.
Amazon - I use this when I'm in a brick and mortar store to check possible saving$.
Flashlight - It turns your iPhone into a "flashlight" by bringing up a bright, white screen. You can also program other colors, patterns, flashing, etc.

When I'm in a "new" city, I also download a public transit app or two to help get me around the city. KICK Lite offers a free map of the NYC subway system. There are two user/rider-developed apps for the bus and train system in Chicago that were extremely helpful. Here in L.A., Nextrip has helped me gauge bus arrivals - and just how long I can or can't linger over my dessert. ;)

Oh!

I also use the Starbucks app... It helps me know if there's a place I can possibly charge up my iPhone and have free WiFi access, as well as a bathroom. ;)

 :)

Thanks for the photos.

I still do not know WHAT Gus is.

;D

Gus is a Sphynx cat.  For more info on this hairless breed click here (http://www.cfa.org/Client/breedSphynx.aspx).

Gus is a strange creature. Why would anyone do that to a cat?

Read the link about the breed.  Apparently it happened naturally, to begin with.  I love cats but their hair makes my eyes itch & this would make a good alternative except I would rather not have a cat without fur. ;D

Back from the four-mile jog.  Won't eat before the matinee and maybe even the evening show (I'll go out after) - so I had an apple and may have a candy bar for some ENERGY.  It's a little windy out.  Actually, I didn't see much evidence of branch falling or anything like that.

First bad review for BONNIE & CLYDE just landed in Terry Teachout's for THE WALL STREET JOURNAL:

'Bonnie & Clyde' isn't the worst musical to open on Broadway in the past decade. It isn't even the worst Frank Wildhorn musical to open on Broadway in the past decade. (That would be "Dracula.") It is, however, quite sufficiently bad enough to qualify for the finals of this year's What-Were-They-Thinking Prize. Why would anyone not obviously deranged put money into a show with music by a composer whose last three Broadway outings tanked? And who thought it was a good idea to write a commodity musical whose title gives the impression that "Bonnie & Clyde" is based (even though it isn't) on a 44-year-old movie that is no longer well remembered save by upper-middle-age baby boomers? Nor have Mr. Wildhorn and his feckless collaborators managed to beat these long odds: "Bonnie & Clyde" is so enervatingly bland and insipid that you'll leave the theater asking yourself why you ever liked musicals in the first place.

!!!!!!!!!! Kudos to BK, our DR Jose, the cast and crew !!!!!!!!!!

elmore, I am happy to hear that you are once again solvent.

Sometimes, the things I think are problems in my life seem sooooooooo small and unimportant.

This morning my boss's wife was struck by a hit and run 18 year old driver while walking her dogs.  When I left work she was in surgery, 2 broken legs, broken hip, skull fracture, coma, etc. etc.

The driver drove home and then turned himself in.

Back from our two-show day.  Show one, our matinee was fantastic - great audience, almost full house.  Evening was a small house of about thirty-five people - VERY quiet, yet the applause for numbers was great with whistles and woos.  We lost about eight people at intermission - later I was told those people didn't speak English.  Go know.  The good news is I survived doing two shows in one day, made a little harder by the fact that they were less than two hours apart.  Saturday will be easier - four hours between.

I actually like the Bonnie & Clyde musical that Hunter Foster and Rick Crom wrote. I saw it at NYMF a few years ago, and when I first heard that "Bonnie & Clyde is heading to Broadway" I had thought, had hoped it was their production. Ah, well.

DR KevinH - It's all about drumming up those advance ticket sales. -Especially in light of the projected budget shortfall due to a lack of government funding which has already resulted in the postponement of one show from this season, as well as the cancellation of the musical version of "Like Water for Chocolate" later this season due to a major change in the creative team.
