And a happy haineshisway.com birthday to former dear reader Maya - she hasn't been with us for many years - she was a young'un when she joined us and just faded away, but so bright and charming.  If anyone knows where she is tell her to get her butt cheeks back here.

Watch this incredible musical number with Bob Fosse and Tommy Rall - watch the way it's shot.  And then imagine how it would be shot and edited by one of today's movie directors - take note especially of the rather astonishing and impossible turn that Mr. Rall does towards the end - today, these "directors" would do ten edits within that astonishing turn, as if that somehow would make it more exciting than watching someone actually DOING the thing.  We'd also have many shots of feet and closeups and there would be no camera design - just six cameras set up so that the number can be made in the editing room.  But sorry "directors" - THIS is the way to shoot a musical number, and none of your hipster crap can make it one iota more exciting than just putting the camera down and letting two unbelievable dancers do a well choreographed number.  The End.

BK, I loved the skit in the Donny & Marie show where Cindy is auditioning for the disaster movie and she does the pull-the-chair-up-to-the-desk bit that you also did in "The First Nudie Musical."  It may not be original, but it still makes me laugh. ;D

The British Arrows were interesting. Not really what I had expected. It's a compilation of award-winning British television advertisements. There were the usual funny ones that I was expecting, but a lot of serious/social issue ones as well - some of which were very difficult to watch.

Regarding that Donny & Marie special:

Good morning, all! I am heading down to Toyland this morning. I haven't been there in nearly two weeks, so I'm due for a visit to check out the place, and drop off some paper.

DR TCB, the York Theatre Co. is in the basement of St Peter's Church at Lexington Avenue and 53rd Street.

I tried to watch all of "My Sister Eileen" abut a month ago. Some great dancing and some good performances, but I kept wishing I were watching "Wonderful Town."

Why one Firework rather than many I've never quite gotten - but it sings better, i suppose.  ??

"Do you ever feel like a plastic bag" is one of the more odd, yet unique (or is it and unique), starts to a pop mega-hit that i can imagine.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who noticed that. I saw it on Facebook and mention it there. Although I didn't mention what the business was I wanted to see if anyone else noticed it. :-)

As the year draws to a close I have started casting for the reading of The Normal Heart. My idea of using local celebrities to read some of the cameo roles has fallen through I am now looking for actors to audition for the parts.

We, too, enjoyed the Hamlisch documentary on PBS.

I thought A FISTFUL OF DOLLARES was the first film; followed by A FEW DOLLARS MORE, and then THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY.

I always hoped that Leone would have gone on to make lasagna Westerns.  They could have been saucier, but probably cheesier.

My goodness.  Watching that dance, I'm wondering if I ever saw MY SISTER EILEEN all the way through.  Must have as a kid, but I sure don't remember much of it.

I liked that piece of dance music, but can well understand eventually wanting the movie to be WONDERFUL TOWN instead.

The first time I remember seeing Bob Fosse was in the film version of DAMN YANKEES doing "Who's Got the Pain."  I thought it was good, but it didn't seem to fit with the rest of the film.  I kept wondering, "Where did this guy come from?"
